Its an okay gym, they do a very good job of keeping the equipment maintained with very little down time. Id like to see them do more cleaning in the actual gym area though. Its very clear a lot of it hasn't been, particularly cleaning any of the metal grip handle equipment and cleaning on/around machines.

The best gym. They have pretty much every machine you could ever need. I’ve been going here for like 4 years.

I took a couple personal training sessions with Mars which were great. Super difficult and fun. I would highly recommend her to anyone. Her knowledge about the body/strength is impressive and I learned a lot.

I don’t know the rest of the staff personally, but everyone is friendly, respectful, and helpful in all my interactions I’ve had with them.

I don't love the lack of security in the parking lot, and I couldn't find hip thrust machine for the life of me. I had to make one, and I had to wait to do it cause people are just hanging out in the equipment, flirting.

I'll give this place a few more tries but I might have to drive out to the other location every freakin day to get my actual money's worth 🫤

The cleaning team is on point here! I constantly see them working so hard to make sure everything is sanitary and in order. And the trainers are so knowledgeable and really want to help you reach your goals, especially when you have certain physical issues or old injuries you’re worried about. Great experience!

Basic gym. 50+% of the equipment has weight stacks that are unreadable. A simple 10 dollar label maker on Amazon and minimal effort and this could be resolved. I suggested this to management multiple times but they seem to not care.

LA Fitness revoked my membership after saying that I was personal training in this gym and that I was talked to about it multiple times and even got aggressive. I have not been in this gym for years with anyone but my girlfriend, and was never approached or talked to by ANYONE before I walked into the club on Sunday to get told my membership has been canceled due to "personal training reasons". I was a member here for years, worked for the company for over a year, and used the facilities almost every other day. Staff are good people, Asha and Matt are outstanding personal trainers, but I can't give anything more than 1 star for how extremely disappointing this situation is.

Came here while in town since it was near where I was staying. I knew the reviews were bad but figured I could make it work. I regretted it the second I walked in. The staff arbitrarily closed the pool and spa with no notice on their website or to the knowledge of the person when I called the day before and spoke to someone. I looked through the window, the pool and hot tub had water in them but they just looked a bit dirty. Super disappointing that the staff can’t properly maintain the facilities or provide adequate notice when things are closed. Not really sure why this is a signature club, just seems like a signature disappointment

I’ve been a member at this gym for several years. While it’s had its ups and downs, I’ve noticed improvements recently - particularly around customer service.

Yesterday, I had a standout experience with Angelina, the Operations Manager. When I mentioned that the restroom paper towels were out, she immediately apologized, explained they were being drop-shipped overnight, and handed me a couple of gym towels to use in the meantime. It was a simple, thoughtful gesture — and the kind of attentive service that makes a difference.

I appreciate seeing folks like Angelina working to improve the member experience, and I hope this trend continues.

Thank you, Angelina — hoping the positive momentum continues!

I was given a pass by an employee. I used it twice i believe. Came in on Sunday to use it and the front desk guy had a problem with it. He got the manager who told me it's not good. I previously came in to get a pass and wanted to pay for five days or sessions so I did not have to bring cash or CC each time. I was back where I started. What a disappointment. Poor communication with employees. Don't use LA Fitness.

Genuine question, why do they just keep letting their sanitizing wipe stations go empty? Between each machine, I'm walking around the whole gym looking for wipes. It's highly annoying. I go up and tell the front desk and think they are going to do something about it but no

Rob and Angelina were incredibly helpful in getting my husband and me set up with day passes during our visit to Oregon. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff was warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The gym is impressively equipped with modern machines, a full range of free weights, cable systems, and multiple racks. Every area, from the training floor to the restrooms, was spotless and well-organized, reflecting a high standard of care and professionalism. If we lived nearby, this would absolutely be our go-to gym. Highly recommend to anyone in the area or just passing through!

I've been coming to LA fitness since they opened in 2009. So I've seen a lot of staff and a lot of changes. It's not perfect, but no place is! I want to give a shout out to Ramon at the front desk and the morning housekeeping staff. All of them are excellent! They have always been extremely kind and professional!! Every time I come, they are always working hard but never too busy to give a warm greeting and a smile. Keep up the good work!

This gym has all the amenities you need, plus there are a lot of nice people that work there. The person at the front, Ramon, is full of good energy and answers all my questions whenever I need it. Angelina is really an asset to LA Fitness at the front desk. Give her a raise! There are plenty of other friendly people there as well. My only complaint is the loud, insipid music blasted in the men's locker room continuously. How about a little peace and quiet? Save the tunes for the gym floor and give us a rest.

Been coming to this location for about a year now. Despite a few faces changing in the location, this location has been one of my faves so far. One thing that makes a huge difference to me that speaks volumes when walking in at 6am, is the staff at the front desk. Speaking specifically to Ramon. Since he's shown up, he greets everyone by name, respect and a smile. Angelina has been very kind and been a blessing of an addition as an OM. Lastly, Jesus works his ass off to keep the place clean and tidy!!

I had to move quickly, I tried calling and messaging support to cancel my membership. They told me I had to go in or mail something in to cancel my account. When I spoke with the rep on the phone they told me I wouldn't be charged again until the end of the year. Next month rolls around and I get charged again. I immediately plan a time I can go in to get a refund and close my account. When I go in they tell me there's no refund but they can close my account. The account closing process needs a serious rework and because of this I highly recommend not using this gym. Sure it's a decent gym, but all that hassle is just not worth it. They essentially got $80+ from me for free because I wasn't able to close my membership in an easy way, how BS is that? I will not be going back to LA fitness. This is a waste.

Got a membership to LA Fitness Lloyd Center a month ago and have really been enjoying it! Membership came with a free session with a personal trainer and I had a great experience working with Mars. Would recommend this gym and training with Mars!

My goto gym in Portland for many years. All venues for a great workout. I use all three locations in the downtown area. Lloyd Center Pearl District and Beaverton. Reasonable prices. Great locker rooms. Go in the off times to avoid the crowds. I posted this some time ago and my story hasn't changed. Some days it's weights, Some days it's just stretching and some days I'm hitting the bag. Great gym whenever you go.

The janitor in the morning (Hispanic male) needs a bonus and a raise. The sauna gets nice and hot but you may have to fight a local boomer who gate keeps the dial. I’ve been a member of LA fitness for 7 or 8 years and I honestly don’t know why I stay. This gym is horrible, the staff sucks (lazy and unfriendly), most of the time the towels, soap and cleaning rags aren’t stocked, and equipment isn’t cleaned. I’ve had multiple instances where I’ve tried to bring people to the gym to try it out and they were so turned off by the staff the just left. If there was somewhere that was as cheap and less horrible I would switch in a heartbeat.
Update: gym still sucks, recently I’ve asked several employees if they could tighten a bench that wobbles when you lay on it and nobody seems to care. They just sit there on their phones… the paper towel dispensers in the bathroom have been broken for weeks.

Update 4/7: Another thing I absolutely love about this gym is that when the soap dispensers in the showers run out they just refill them with water. Nothing I love more than trying to take a shower and finding only water coming out of the soap dispenser. Also they’ve started advertising to us inside the gym, because apparently our gym membership fee isn’t enough money for them. Cool. (See pic below.)

Disappointing experience with a manager at this gym. I tried using a guest pass, there was some confusion and I’ll admit I wasn’t very clear on my explanation of the situation. Still, the manager was rude and confrontational about it right away, stating I needed to pay without even trying to come to a resolution. Not the welcoming vibe you’d expect from a gym. In the end it was resolved but very poor customer service, not somewhere I’d spend my money.

This place has undergone some changes that are not great unfortunately. The classes are great, equipment is fine, except pool is old and there's mold in the wood and it smells awful. If you need any help from the staff, it's a nightmare. The former manager was a womanizer and the Membership Manager Rob is rude, disrespectful and mean. I have cancer and was trying to cancel my account and was asking for an assist. The staff there said nothing aligned with the corporate office when I called and asked for help and, when I said I had cancer and was exhausted and just needed help...Rob kept interrupting and said "I don't have the patience for this." I said "well, I have cancer and certainly don't want to be doing this but try to find some patience" to which he said "you are just yabbering away at me and not even listening." All I wanted was help making an account online which required a Member Tag # that I couldn't locate on my App. Well, call down to the Pearl location and the gem of a Membership Manager there helped me in 60 seconds. Do yourself a favor, avoid Rob, he doesn't have the patience for you.

Avoid This Gym at All Costs – Unethical Business Practices

If I could give LA Fitness zero stars, I would. Their cancellation process is deliberately designed to be as difficult, frustrating, and opaque as possible, bordering on outright fraud.

I have called multiple times, gone into the gym in person, and spoken with employees and managers who assured me that my cancellation was being processed. Yet, I continued to be charged. Today, an operations manager even admitted she could see all the notes on my account showing my repeated attempts to cancel. Instead of resolving the issue, she tried to charge me an additional balance for an annual fee — on a membership I have been trying to cancel for months.

LA Fitness weaponizes incompetence to trap members into continued billing. The staff either claim they can’t process cancellations, pass you around from manager to manager, or simply ignore your requests. Meanwhile, I recently discovered that cancellations can actually be done online through their website (not the app) — a fact they conveniently failed to mention throughout this exhausting process.

This gym is a textbook example of unethical business practices. If you value your time, money, and sanity, stay far away from LA Fitness.

Today I had a very unpleasant experience with an employee. I didn't get their name, but they had shortish black hair and a very colorful neck tattoo. I don't know their preferred pronouns so I will use the singular "they".

My friend and I were working out together and throughout the session I showed him some specific exercises I like to do specific to the sport we both participate in. Towards the end of our workout this employee approached us and accused me of "training" my friend, whatever that means. Perhaps they assumed I was being paid?

The employee asked me if I am a trainer and I said no, but they acted like they didn't believe me and said that my friend should hire one of the staff trainers. As I tried to explain we were just two friends working out together they got unnecessarily confrontational and threatened that "if my Vice President was here, he would throw you out". At that point we were close to the end of our workout, so I just suggested to my friend that we leave.

I see friends and even couples work out together all the time, so I'm at a loss in terms of what we did wrong. Is it because we discussed the exercises as we performed them? Would it have been better had we discussed the exercises before arriving and then done them silently together? Are friends not allowed to work out together in this gym? Or is that allowed so long as they do so without talking to each other?

Beyond that, I don't understand why this employee decided to become so confrontational. They must be struggling to get personal training clients, and with that attitude I can see why.

FYI you can cancel your membership by logging into your account on the website. Don't let them tell you you have to do it in person or through the mail. They are required to allow easy cancelation due to a recent FTC ruling. These big box gyms pretend to make you jump through hoops because the only way they can compete with other gyms is if they make you feel like it's too much of a hassle to bother canceling. Bad business practices will always get a 1 star review regardless of the quality of the gym itself. Speaking of that, it's not a bad gym to workout in and the price is cheaper than most. However, it does have a bit of a bro vibe so get used to waiting for one of the grand total of 3 squat racks to open up. It's also not very clean. The mats look like they've never been cleaned and there is gunk and dirt around alot of the benches and machines. They also frequently run out of sanitary wipes and hand sanitizer.

I have been a member here since 2016. I have seen many changes in Management and as of late, not for the better. I produced fundraising events for "AIDS Lifecycle" which is a fundraiser for AIDS/HIV treatment, awareness and more. I had an arrangement with the Lloyd Center Location of LA Fitness for them being one of the sponsors for the fundraisers I was producing locally.
They had issued several 15 Day Passes to be given out at these events and in exchange, were included in all marketing done for said events. During one of the changes of management, about a year ago, the current "Club Manager" told me that these passes would no longer be accepted.
I reached out to the regional manager and this was rectified at that time a year ago. Two weeks ago, one of the recipients of these passes was denied the use of it. So once again, they have reneged on our agreement.
The same Club Manager claimed to not know anything about it. In a discussion with this manager, another employee at the gym mocked and antagonized me saying that I was unreasonably agitated over nothing and then said "so you're upset that your friend can't get in for free" and repeated that I was unreasonably agitated a few times. I then asked him if his goal was to agitate me further and his response was YES while the club manager stood there smiling.
I have reached out to corporate and also left messages for the regional manager that promised me that there would not be an issue. It's been a few weeks now and I've heard nothing other than at one point being told that it was just a "handshake" agreement and was therefore not really valid.

Each LA Fitness location in Portland, OR seems to give off a different vibe, and each has its pros and cons. This vibe here is pleasantly low-key.

Pros: The operations manager (I don't recall her name) was very quick to address concerns I raised about another member. A couple of front desk employees are very observant, like Chris and Jack, who recovered my Fitbit watch on both occasions when I left it behind at closing time. The heavy bags are maintained better here that at some other locations. The boot camp-style workout area, while small, is nice.

Cons: Both the equipment and locker room could use an upgrade, if not a complete overhaul. I once asked a manager about getting an arm bicycle, which all other locations seem to have. Years later, they still don't have one. It would also be nice to have a Versa Climber (or two). The lighting needs improvement, especially in the absence of natural light, since this may be the only location completely underground.

The convenience of this location is a big plus; a little TLC would make it even better.

I have been to many LA fitness locations across the country, and Jack represents the values and image of LA fitness better than anyone else I have seen. I’ve been going to LA Fitness at Lloyd for about three years, and I’ve also checked out the Pearl, Beaverton, and 82nd Avenue locations. The Lloyd location is definitely a bit older, and you can see some wear and tear, but the equipment still works fine, and they regularly replace things like pads and bumpers when needed.

Equipment:
The gym has two squat racks, three Smith machines, an Olympic station, a few racks of free weights, and a functional training area. The cable machines are a little limited, but I’ve never had any issues getting my routine done. They also have a solid variety of cardio and isolation machines, which shows the staff is doing a good job keeping things maintained.

Cleanliness:
It’s a gym, so it’s going to get dirty with so many people using it daily, but the cleaning crew does a great job. I usually go in the evenings and always see them cleaning the floors and emptying trash. Members are expected to wipe down equipment after using it, but not everyone does that. I find LA Fitness to be cleaner than other gyms like Hollywood 24 Hour Fitness.

Culture & Staff:
I’m mainly at the gym to work out, but overall, the vibe is friendly. I’ve never had any problems with the staff or other members. Over the years, I’ve seen the staff change a few times, but they’ve always been friendly and helpful.

Now, about Jack AKA John. He’s one of the employees that really stands out. Jack’s always been super friendly and goes out of his way to make sure the gym is safe and runs smoothly. I’ve personally spent hour after my workout talking to him a couple of times. I’ve seen him handle tough situations with people who were upset about policies, and he always stays calm and respectful, even when others are not. He’s great at talking with regulars, and I’ve seen him speak Spanish with members who aren’t fluent in English, which is awesome. He even uses the gym in his off time, which shows he cares about the space and how it’s treated.

Membership & Pricing:
LA Fitness as a chain does have some pushy sales tactics, but that doesn’t reflect on the staff at individual locations. I have a mid-tier membership that lets me visit any LA Fitness, and I think it’s fairly priced. They do push personal training which I wasn't interested. They also charge for towel service, but I recommend bringing your own. They offer classes like yoga and cycling, and they seem pretty popular.

Traffic & Peak Times:
The gym is busiest between 7-10 a.m. and 5-7 p.m., but that’s typical for most gyms. I’ve always been able to get my workout done, even during these times. I’ve had more issues finding equipment at places like 24 Hour Fitness or Crunch, but not here.

Conclusion:
Overall, my experience at LA Fitness Lloyd has been positive. The front desk staff handles things well, and the gym works for what I need. My suggestions would be more directed at LA Fitness as a chain like improving their app and keeping good employees. It’d also be great to see some investment in maintenance, like fixing the A/C and water pipes, but that might be more of a landlord thing.

I've been going to this LA Fitness for over half a decade, and I couldn't be happier. There's a wide variety of machines to do just about anything you can think of. The facility is always kept clean to a high standard, and I regularly see the cleaning staff working hard to keep up with the high turnover from all the gym members.

The front staff is exceptional! especially the weekday nighttime front desk team!!! They’re consistently friendly, attentive, and on top of everything, ensuring members are well taken care of. Their professionalism, positive energy, and willingness to go the extra mile are clear every time I walk in. This team truly stands out and deserves special recognition for their hard work and dedication. Sometimes I’ll catch the front desk guy working out on the weekend when I'm there later at night. He always initiates the conversation since I’m a regular and takes the time to genuinely engage in our conversations between sets, making for quality chats. Small things like that make my day and make me look forward to coming in the next time and seeing them.

I feel 100% safer knowing the people at this LA Fitness care about the community that uses this facility. I have a membership that gives me access to multiple LA Fitness locations in the area, but the community including the front staff and the larger staff team is what keeps me coming back to this specific site. Their hard work and dedication to the people who come here every day is commendable and more than worthy of five stars.

As a former lifeguard, janitor, front staff member, and membership sales person, I can attest to how hard they work, and I'm very grateful for that.

I hope this information has given you the reader a good insight to what to expect when you come workout at this facility <3, I genuinely mean every word I just wrote. Come and hang out here for a few weeks, and you will see it as well.

Sincerely,
A very happy member!

I've been going to the LA Fitness gym in NE Portland for a while now and there is a young man at the front desk named Jack who works the evening shift. He does an excellent job greeting the gym members and supplying them with everything they need when asked. I always look forward to seeing him because he makes me feel welcomed. I would describe Jack's worth ethic as profound, fantastic, well-mannered, professional, efficient, and just the right guy for the job. I don't know what his future plans are, but I do hope he will keep working at the front desk for quite some time. It's great to have someone like him who actually does their job and gets along with people. It's getting harder to find good people with a great work ethic these days.

Rude staff. Would have been a 4 or 5 rating but I was harassed twice by a front desk person named "John". I put his name in quotation marks because he would not actually give me his name when I asked for it. He refused to tell me his name. I only heard it when he told his name to the police, after he called the police on me. He lied to the police and told them that he had a customer that refused to leave when he clearly saw me getting dressed.

All I asked him was if he could step outside the change room, because he kept staring directly at me while I was putting on my change of underwear and pants. I told him I felt "uncomfortable and that i just needed 30 seconds or so to put on my clothes and leave." He said " I don't care I want you out of here right now, I am trying to go". I told him he "didnt need to be rude to me and that I'm just a customer like everyone else, trying to gather my things and go, because i know the gym just closed."
He then proceeded to call the police asked him to come to the door, giving them a full description of my clothes, my age appearance, and build, as if I were a suspect and I had did something illegal or criminal.

Absolutely degrading!

I come to this location frequently and have never caused any problems. I stay to myself and respect others. I work hard. I go home.

All this transpired less than 5 min after close. He did the same thing a few nights before, also badgering me because he did not recognize me at the gym. I told him i had already swiped in and he said "hmmm.. Are you sure you checked in already? I dont remember seeing you." Then he watched me as I was the last person out that day too. He walked up to me to tell me to hurry up it's time to go more than once that time as well.

I didn't say anything that time. I figured maybe he had a bad day. This time, I had to let people know my experience in hope that no one else experiences these predatory behaviors, while attempting to better their physical health. This is an egregious misuse of trust and power that needs to be addressed and resolved.

This used to be a good gym. Now you have to get there early before they run out of soap in the showers. It also helps to come when it is quiet so you can grab the one shower that puts out more than a light mist. They do however have towels so you can sand your skin clean at any time of day.

I come to the gym everyday. I have to go first thing in the morning or else it is actually insane. I would never come in the afternoon or evening again because my husband has to and it was PACKEDD. Like literally waiting forever to get on each machine. Another thing I will add is that their weekend hours are terrible. 8am-8pm? So I can't go before work or after work and get in a full workout. One of the BIGGEST problems that happens every. Single. Day. Is the sanitizing wipes being empty in every station. If you guys don't want us to wipe our machines down, just say that. But i thought it was a gym rule or at least HEAVILY encouraged to do, since covid at least. Instead I'm trying to be courteous and I have to walk the entire length of the gym to find one station that isn't empty out of 4 (the paper towels and sanitizer in the class room is usually out of either paper towels or sanitizer). I really don't know how hard it is to keep those stations stocked. It's highly annoying. If you guys don't care if we wipe the machines down because you want to save on costs, then you should put signs up and let it be known so we don't feel bad if we can't find wipes.
The staff is friendly enough, I really just say hi and bye so I can't speak too much on that. I'm thinking of switching gyms because this gym doesn't have any version of a hip thrust machine which is a huge bummer

I've been a member since 2017, and I identify as a cis gender male, so I can't speak for the other sexes accommodations. I can't use the pool because I'm allergic to high doses of chlorine, so I can't say anything about that. The steam room is small, basic but toasty, and the showers could use curtains. The equipment is dated when compared to the downtown location, but otherwise functional. We are expected to wipe down the equipment when we are done using them, but there's usually no disinfectant wipes available. You'll get greeted 1/5 of the times by the few friendly staff that aren't occupied on their pc/laptop with social media or personal activities. I pay $25.00 per month ( $10.00 extra for towels), and I go 3 to 4 days per week on average because it's convenient and the lack of gyms in my area.

I wish this gym were better because the location is so convenient for me. The staff isn’t that friendly. The trainers here have been pretty rude and territorial to me in the past when working out. All this leads me to believe it’s probably a miserable place to work, and when that happens both staff and customers end up with a bad experience. It’s not super clean, the heavy lifting equipment is often being used. They could definitely fit a couple more Olympic barbell racks, which is very needed. All in all it just feels like yet another place that is falling apart. If I see changes, especially more equipment for heavy lifting, I will happily update this review.

🤮 I am honestly just shocked by the NE Weidler location… I will not be returning… so day one, I realized pretty quick that this place is dirty… not a single station has wipes, and only a few had sanitizer, towels or spray… Bathroom stalls (2 separate stalls over two different days) out of toilet paper completely, other stalls were heavily low/empty as well. No soap available in bathrooms either days (1 week apart), under machine legs and around machines were built up with dirt and gunk…
A window in the back classroom had been broken into and “half replaced” BUT THERE WAS STILL BROKEN GLASS on the floor, I realized this shortly before finishing my stretching (I had no shoes on) 🫠 the room was leaking and there were buckets (still not dealt with a week later)
Dust bunnies and dirt in every room, dirty mirrors and pillars… the machines… ugh… the screens, corners&grooves and water bottle holders were actually repulsive… 🤮 I just don’t understand why this place is so acceptably disgusting? Its very obvious its not been cleaned for months if not years… absolutely -100 for me 😵‍💫

Signed up for a guest pass but was unable to use it because the "customer service representative" who is apparently the only one who can activate it wasn't working at that time. The functional training area with the sled and turf is nice, but there are no resistance or rogue bands of any sort anywhere in the building to use (I asked), and as far as I could tell no barbell thrust setup or equivalent machine. I'm in the area for a short time but rehabbing an ACL injury and trying to follow my typical PT/strengthening routine, and it was disappointing that such a large gym didn't have the things I need. giving two stars because the female manager is really kind and understanding, and there is one personal trainer that is always friendly when I’m working out in the area that personal training happens.

Overall though, I’m not having a great experience. As a shorter person it’s hard to find equipment that works for me, as it’s all designed for taller people (who are typically men). The area where personal training happens (that is open to all members) works better for me than other areas. There are two white male trainers who have been SO snarky and rude to me when they’ve kicked me out of the area they use for their training sessions. It always disrupts my workout, and due to the lack of equipment I typically can’t finish my workout because I need to get back to work. Additionally I don’t feel comfortable at the gym now. Unfortunately heavy lifting is very much a “man’s world” thing still. Even though I see lots of other women/ femme folks lifting here, that culture still is apparent. It’s hard enough to feel welcome in these spaces sometimes as a women, and the way these trainers speak to me isn’t helping.

This gym is filled with approx 80% male and 20% female. A male member verbally and physically assaulted me when he left his towel on a machine for 10min and I was ready to use the machine. He shouted expletives, I told him he can't talk like that and proceeded to tell him to accompany me to the front desk. On the way there he hits me from behind, threatening to dare me to speak about his behavior. Luckily a young woman saw him do this and told the front desk about it. Not to mention that 3 males also mentioned his inappropriate behavior to me.
But as usual he continues to have a membership there and regularly upon passing behind me he calls calls out obscenities.
My husband and I pay our dues to LA fitness and I do not feel safe there.
I plan on addressing this to upper management, but don't expect much. This place is a disappointment to say the least.

UPDATE, it turns out the incident that happened on September 29th appears to have had no formal incident report made by the managers. It wasn't until I called LA Fitness corporate in November that an incident report was made by me with corporate. It is now been over 2 months and NOBODY from LA Fitness has called me back regarding the incident. Brianna the manager at that location, has never called me regarding the second incident I reported.

I INVITE LA Fitness to review this review publicly.
