After completing treatment for an eating disorder, I knew I needed someone on my team who supported a positive relationship with food, exercise, and body. Someone who also understood the emotional and mental affects of food and exercise. I selected Katie as my trainer because of her personal experience with eating disorders and professional background in athletics. After more than a year of training with her, I continue with Katie as my trainer because of her holistic view of the heart, mind, and body. Her attunement to me yields a fun and appropriately challenging session that leaves me feeling empowered and assured—even on the days when I do the program at my home gym. Katie has walked with me through several injuries (due to the eating disorder); programing movements that kept me moving without pain while the injured parts repaired themselves. She helps me understand the science and numbers behind the body in a healthful way that supports what I’ve learned in recovery. Since working with Katie, my relationship with food and exercise is more positive and I am learning to listen and trust my body. She guides me on goal setting and helps me achieve them in a sustainable way. On days I struggle with poor body image, she reminds me to consider what my body can DO for me. And as we work together, her intentionality with me makes me feel seen. She demonstrates that we are more than just bodies as she honors my mind and my soul while she challenges my physical strength. I highly recommend working with Katie. She is a safe person especially for those in recovery, those new to fitness, and those who want to embrace fitness as something other than punishment.

Honest healthy weight loss results.
I’ve worked with Katie for many years. She offers consistent health focused nutrition coaching that has helped me achieve my goals. Quite frankly she’s helped me change my relationship with food and nutrition. I’ve appreciated her honest and straight forward approach.

In 2021 I had a major injury and decided I needed some additional help navigating physical fitness and weightlifting while recovering. I spoke with several friends who have worked in the wellness and/or physical fitness industry. One trusted friend and regular gym rat who gave me Katie King's name told me that she was "the best trainer in Portland." Katie met with me for a video consultation and impressed me with her knowledge as well as her patience and willingness to meet me where I was at. She also made it clear she understood the connections between mental and physical health (something that is very important to me). I've been working with Katie since and she continues to impress. Katie has helped me build a holistic fitness routine that takes into account my busy schedule as well as my priorities (and not just my weightlifting priorities). I've worked with her on nutrition, weightlifting, running, and other conditioning (including track and hill workouts). She always listens to where I'm coming from, is relentlessly encouraging (even when I'm irritable or down), and does not push her own agenda. She's also been supportive when I've worked with other professionals including Pilates instructors, massage therapists, etc. and it's clear there is no unprofessional or territorial behavior there. She took time to directly and regularly communicate with a physical therapist I was working with and tailored our training to accommodate for my injury and other life events. It was clear from my conversations with that PT that Katie engaged in a very respectful way. While working with her I've completed a marathon and several half marathons. More importantly, I'm not in pain on a daily basis, in large part thanks to her efforts. I'm also able to hike, backpack, cycle, walk my giant dogs, and just move through the world in a functional way! I'm continuing to work with her, in part, because I am always learning from her. Katie is absolutely not a trainer who fosters dependance. She wants her clients to be informed and know how to do things on their own and has encouraged me to grow in a myriad of ways. I've been able to take what I learn in the gym with her and apply it to workouts on my own (something she has encouraged). She goes above and beyond to do things like work with me on training plans while I am traveling or otherwise unable to meet with her. She's accessible throughout the week if I have questions or need to chat and has consistently been flexible when life events have arisen that have necessitated altering our training plans. Throughout my work with her Katie has presented as well-informed and intentional in her approach without making workouts intimidating. I've worked with a number of trainers and truly believe that fit and match is important. Katie has absolutely been the best trainer for me.

Katie helped me change the way I was eating. Her nutrition coaching/education was key to my eating much healthier and losing weight without "dieting". I live in eastern WA, but with our weekly calls, she keeps me on track. Her coaching style is very personal. She is a good listener and used my input to ensure she focused on helping me accomplish my goals.

I have been working with Katie for several years. My focus has primarily been balance and strength, as I am in my late 50s, and work in the healthcare field lifting patients, etc. My balance and strength have improved. I have noticed this both with activities, such as hiking, and at my job. I followed Katie from another gym as we have clicked as a team. She listens to my opinions and choices. Pushes me with fitness and strength as appropriate. Often I accomplish tasks I did not believe I would attain later in life. Katie is wonderful ...

I work with Katie to improve my long distance running. We structure our training with two weekly check-ins, and a training program.
I've seen a lot of progress working with Katie, both in terms of speed and endurance. She has also helped me to stay injury-free.
One of the things that I love about working with Katie is that she pushes me to improve, while also meeting me where I am. That is, the programming is based around my goals (which she helps me determine) and also everything else that is going on. That means she knows her methods to improve physical fitness, while also being empathetic to my life-circumstances.
HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Katie.
