The Bar Method Lake Oswego is a boutique fitness studio offering barre classes for students of all levels. The signature method uses your own body weight, the ballet barre and a few props to create a transformative workout that results in long, lean sculpted muscles. Not only does it reshape your entire body, but it allows you to channel your inner strength and leave class feeling strong, confident and poised. Highly-trained instructors customize the exercises to ensure they are safe and effective for any age and every body, including modifications for pregnant women and students with injuries. Í have been taking barre classes for 17 years, 12 of then with The Bar Method, and at Lake Oswego for the past two. The instructors here are great, they will push you to give it your all and encourage you when you feel like you can't. I love the OG Method class and have been taking more Strength classes lately. Bodyweight exercises are great for your health. I recently got a body composition scan and my bone density is excellent, thanks to The Bar Method.

This studio will feel like your home. I came from a non-franchised studio with not the highest hopes, but I was quickly converted. I love the structure and consistency of The Bar Method. I feel like I am learning so much not only as a customer but as an instructor as well. They are hands on, know you on a personal level and want to see you grow.

Lauren the owner is a gem! She is a certified personal trainer which shows in how she challenges each one of us in class. I love Bar method for helping me keep the strength I need for ski racing in the winter and waterskiing in the summer. I'm also an avid paddle boarder and enjoy doing the lake run.
The method is incredible for maintaining balance and building muscle. I've taken over 150 classes.

I used to love Bar Method and regularly attended classes through Wellhub. Unfortunately, the new owner, Lauren Wood, has made it very clear that anyone not paying her directly is unwelcome.
She emailed me to say she planned to leave ClassPass and Wellhub, asking that I buy a membership through her instead. I declined — I already pay for a Wellhub plan that allows me to attend multiple studios and enjoy different workouts.
Tonight at 8:20 p.m., she canceled the 9:30 a.m. class I had booked because she wanted to “save space” for people who pay her directly. That’s right — even though I reserved an open class, I was bumped so someone else could take my spot if they spend more.
That’s not “community.” That’s poor customer service and a terrible way to treat loyal clients.
Don’t worry, Lauren — I won’t be lowering your standards by returning. I’ll happily take my business to Pure Barre, where the workouts are more challenging, and the staff is genuinely happy to see me.

Two things that set Bar Method apart from other barre workouts is that the teachers universally make the effort to learn client names and are constantly giving verbal and hands on adjustments. It’s comforting to know you are either doing the workout correctly or will be soon.

This is an updated review as of 2024…. I’ve been going to The Bar Method LO since 2016 and I continue to enjoy the workout. The workout is a true full body workout and the LO location offers 5 different formats to change it up a bit. I especially love the Strength Class and the Cardio Class. And the “Method” class is still so effective and a really great workout! Love it!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I took my first bar method class in 2015 and loved the targeted and effective workout. I am a dancer and I love how familiar some of the exercises are. But you don’t need that background for the workout to be approachable. They focus on muscle groups I want to stabilize and I love the inclusion of stretching. Most of the instructors are very friendly and encouraging too. I always feel good after attending a class. I only wish I could better afford full membership - it’s pricey! That being said, it’s always a treat to do a bar class and I look for this method in other cities when I travel too.

The Bar Method with their amazing instructors and community full of strong encouraging women (and men) have been my go-to for over 7 years. I love the burn in class, the energy I get from the room full of people and accomplishment I leave with every morning to kickstart my day. The studio has become my place for “me time” and I never regret making the time to connect with myself and build my body to be stronger and healthier. I did the Bar Method through 2 pregnancies and was stronger (and thinner!) post pregnancy than pre-pregnancy!!! Bar method is definitely the best in the business and I can never recommend Beth and her team enough to all my friends and family. As soon as you walk in there is a sense of calm and belonging, from the smiles at the desk to the messages on the walls, to the words of encouragement from the instructors, I guarantee you’ll find your place too and never turn back.

The Barre Method Lake Oswego is a fabulous place to go get in shape! Every class is just as challenging as the last. Sometimes I wonder why I keep going but the results, both increased strength and energy, are worth the pain. All of the instructors are incredibly supportive and encouraging. If you're looking for a workout that will leave you feeling energized, motivated, and sweaty, you have to check out Bar Method! From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a treat. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home and excited to get started.
The space itself was spotless, with plenty of room to move around and get into the groove. And the workout itself? Let's just say I was dripping with sweat by the end of it! The instructor, Jessica, was fantastic - knowledgeable, and supportive.
Overall, I can't recommend this barre studio enough. Whether you're a seasoned fitness buff or just starting out, this is the perfect way to tone up, slim down, and feel your best. I was hooked after just one class!

The Bar Method is my go-to workout. It's my happy place. It's my self care. It's my mind-body connection. The workouts are challenging and varied but still follow a tried and true formula - I know it works. I see it working and welcome the discipline it requires. My body is strong. My mind is at peace. Great classes and helpful, supportive staff! I was so nervous to take my first class and had no idea what to expect. The instructors are so incredibly kind and patient and encouraging. Five stars is nowhere near enough to reflect how I feel about The Bar Method Lake Oswego. I moved to Oregon in 2018 and quickly started testing the barre options in the area. After trying a few different ones, I came to Beth’s studio and instantly knew I’d found my place. It might sound cheesy, but it’s like my version of Cheers: that place where everyone knows your name, you feel right at home, and you can escape from the rest of the world for a bit. It’s not often you find that in a fitness environment, but Beth and her team have created that space. I even left for a short time only a few months after joining because my family joined a local sports club, and I felt I couldn’t justify the cost of both memberships. I think Beth knew I’d be back soon, and she was right. I lasted maybe two months, and I’ve been there ever since—even through Covid lockdowns when the studio offered live virtual classes as well as streaming Instagram ones. Those sessions became my lifeline week after week when the world seemed so lost. That studio was the one constant I could always count on and it continues to be today.
And did I mention it’s an insanely killer workout? I’ve had the owner of a physical therapy practice tell me his wife brought him to a class at this very studio and that it’s an absolutely fantastic routine for your body and overall health. What is most awesome though is Beth and her team push you to be your best but also encourage you to listen to your body. They do hand-on adjustments to ensure you get the maximum from the workout while preventing injuries. They offer modifications for those who are just starting out, have injuries, are pregnant, or just need an alternate option for any reason. It can feel like an intimidating exercise at first, but the hard is what makes it great. You don’t need to be a dancer; you could be in the worst shape of your life; or you might just need a change in your routine. Just make sure you give it a try. It could change your world.

I hate exercise for exercise sake. I loathe it. But I knew I needed to be doing more. So I picked Bar Method to try. I am not skinny. I was not really fit. But I'm about to close in on a year with Bar Method Lake Oswego, and I don't know how I lived without it. It has strengthened me physically AND mentally, and every class gives me just what I can handle that day. The instructors are positive and keep an eye on form to really help you get the best results from each small movement. There are skinny people, heavier people, old people, young people - you name it - we can all do Bar Method. I ride and show horses competitively and it made a HUGE difference in my core strength and breathing while I ride. It has paid off huge.
Couple of other items:
-- Everyone is very friendly. We all groan together in solidarity. LOL
-- There are tons of classes - so if you find you have some free time, you can usually squeeze one in.
-- There are really strong, amazing people in the classes, and there are people who are just able to do the exercise. Both are inspirational and ALL are welcome. I loved that when I started. No need to feel self conscious.
--- You don't need fancy work out clothes or equipment
--- Every instructor has their own style and humor - you will find each class is an adventure.
-- The music rocks.
-- I highly recommend the Bar Restore class... especially if you're stressed out. It has saved the lives of many of my employees. LOL
-- You will FEEL these classes in your muscles. And the stretching at the end is sooooooo good. Its pretty awesome.
Do what I did - try it for a month. You may surprise yourself in how much you like it.

I have been a Bar Method client for 11 years and counting. The Bar Method is the one class-based workout that I have stuck with this long for good reason. It is low impact yet challenging and offers everything from interval training and strength training to cardio-focused and restorative classes. Bar Method is the workout I've stuck with longer than any other ever. We're talking years! My body literally misses it when I have more than a few days away. I love that it's so easy to modify whether I'm having an off day or feeling extra strong. It's an all in one, too, focusing on strength, flexibility, posture, core and cardio- so I feel good knowing I have my bases covered. And it's fun! I tried the Bar Method in my mid twenties when I was in the best shape of my life and hated it. I went back 10 years later after illness and 50 pounds of weight gain and it has been a key piece in my healing of some quite serious illness. I've since tried other workouts to see if they would compare in impact (Pure Barre, the Dailey Method, other various at-home workouts) - and nothing compared for me. This place cured my pain, helps me stay sane, and keeps me accountable. It's a hard but SAFE workout. I also think it's approachable for all shapes and sizes and ages (I brought my 68 year old mom who doesn't exercise and she was fine, and sore). There are adjustments or variations if the position is too difficult for muscularly or due to an injury. It's an accepting, compassionate yet disciplined environment. All the teachers get some serious training and know what they're doing (I've taught yoga, done pre-med and now I'm an acupuncturist so I get it). They also have a variety of times for classes which I love --- I tend to go in the morning before kids wake up so that's really helpful, especially since most gyms and group workouts these days don't have early enough classes for us parents. I love it so much. Thank you Beth and Shayla for running this place!

As a former professional ballet dancer I love this place! Between the attention to detail, knowledge of the staff, and flexibility of the schedule, I start my day with the best workout for me. It truly doesn't matter what walk of life you are in for this to be a relevant workout for you. I've had many injuries throughout my career and the adaptations along with the support from the instructors allows me to get the most out of every workout. The facility feels so warm and welcoming that I sometimes just feel like I'm going to the spa. Such a great place that is good for anyone!

The BEST barre workout there is! I’ve done barre for years, tried Pure Barre, Barre 3, and local barre studios. Bar Method is safe, effective, and NEVER stops being challenging. Additionally, the owners are wonderful women who enthusiastically greet you by name everyday. Every single teacher is excellent. And in normal (non Covid) times they have childcare with spectacular babysitters. It’s my favorite place to be!

The best, most positive workout classes ever! Age doesn't matter as the range is very wide and I see all ages in my class. I am in my late 60's with arthritis, and it's perfect, and I also know women in their 30's who find it challenging. The instructors could not be more supportive.

I stopped coming to the bar method for about 6 months, and just got back into it. I honestly forgot how much I loved it! It's a really fun, low-impact work-out (I can take a class during my lunch break and not come back to work sweaty and gross) but it's challenging, and I always feel sore afterward. The instructors are really nice, and I'm always impressed by how quickly they learn your name and remember you.

I’m a three month newbie but can easily see the benefits of this wonderful mix of strength training, stretching and balance. I have significant scoliosis, one leg longer than the other and I have always hyper-extended my knees. Beth and her team at the Lake Oswego location are so patient with instruction and correction to be sure I’m in the proper position, I smile every time they adjust me! While I’m 59, I see many much younger and just as many older Members all working to build a strong foundation for graceful aging. It’s now apparent that I need this class to build and maintain core strength to keep my crooked body as straight as possible. Thank-you, Thank-you!

I'm just returning to Bar Method after a 1 1/2 year break. I went religiously for two years, prior to that. What I realized during the break is that this, specific, method works better than other exercise to tone and sculpt every part of my body. I like intense workouts that don't require me to bounce around: the calm, clean studios and clear, engaging instructors are perfect. It is hard. It is worth every penny. I look forward to each class and am enjoying watching my body change very quickly!

I HIGHLY Recommend Bar Method. I’m almost 60 years old and have always been active but in the past few years I’ve lost strength and flexibility. By the recommendation of a friend, I took a Bar Method class and loved it from the very first class. It is a combination of stretching and strengthening using your own body weight (a few exercises with light weights). The instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful and will guide you through any questions. They are very upbeat and exude positivity. I highly recommend anyone trying it out. Give it a month so you can see the benefits.

The Bar Method is a complete mind and body workout. The various exercises focus on isolated muscle movements and are low impact, but don’t let that fool you. The strength training, sculpting and cardio health are like no other workout I’ve found.
I come for the mind blowing physical experience but the community at The Bar Method Lake Oswego provides constant motivation along with emotional and mental stimulation. I’m so grateful for this studio and the amazing individuals who are a part of it!

I really like Bar Method because they focus on form and making sure to protect your joints (especially knees) since I have had 4 knee surgeries. This is a great low impact workout that has allowed me to strengthen my legs from post surgery muscle atrophy and become stronger and stronger everyday. The instructors help to motivate and push me to the next level and the music is awesome!

I was brought to the Bar Method in September and was immediately hooked - I just completed my 100 class! I love working out at The Bar Method in Lake Oswego! I really hadn’t worked out much the past couple years after my last baby but knew I needed to get back into the gym and decided to try barre. My heart fluttered a bit when I saw the Bar Method signage put in place last year in my 'hood. My sister's been talking it up for years and I wondered if this would be the workout I can commit to regularly and incorporate into my daily routine. And, yes, I'm hooked.
The studio in Lake O is beautiful and clean and bright. The instructors are helpful, amusing, and keep you in good form, and front desk staff is helpful and friendly. The members are inspiring. You can meet people or not meet people, it's up to you.
There's a variety of classes for every mood! Classes offered are different paces and intensities. But don't be mistaken, none of the classes are easy.
Your form during class is important, and instructors will correct your posture by calling out your name and/or adjusting your position manually, they also provide positive feedback. It's like having a personal trainer.
The focus during class is, again, your form, but also small muscle movements and fighting to stay in the position. Then you are rewarded w a stretch or two.
One of the best things about The Bar Method workout is that it fits neatly into your daily routine. Listen to the instructors, come 3-5 times each week, and notice over weeks how you now see yourself and what's possible, and in a few short months your arms and thighs will jiggle a lot less.
