Valley Strength offers is individualized Fat-loss, strength, bodybuilding, powerlifting, and fitness coaching for everyone. Drawing from my extensive experience as both a coach and athlete, I will work closely with you to help you achieve your goals and reach your fullest potential.

Ryan was a wealth of knowledge during my training with him. I came in with pretty bad knee and neck/shoulder pain from improper movement spanning years. He took his time explaining the different planes of movement with my joints and muscles, so that I could visualize what I had been doing vs what I should be doing. He made sure the correct muscles were being activated during training to avoid injury. He was quick to stop if I mentioned a certain pain. I felt supported and motivated to keep going (even on my worst days). By the end of my training, my knee and shoulder pain was gone and I now know what muscles should be doing the work. Even when I didn't think that I could do something, he knew that I could and was right there cheering me on. I surprised myself many times over. At the end of my training, he sent over all of his logs and measurements for reference as I continue my journey. Grateful for his expertise and patience. Highly recommend!

I’ve been training with Ryan Achenbach at Valley Strength & Fitness for the last three years—and that says a lot about his skills and dedication.
I was first referred to Ryan by another fitness coach who knew me well and understood my goals. Coming from a fitness background myself, I had worked out on my own for years but after turning 70, I knew it was time to place more of an emphasis on strength training to help preserve my bones mass and muscle as I age. The longevity of our partnership may speak for itself, but I will share for the sake of those of you reading this in an effort to find an expert who can help you meet your fitness goals. Let me just say, Ryan’s training is worth every penny! I was a plump, middle-aged woman wanting help to lose weight and work on strengthening imbalances due to surgeries and old dance injuries. Best decision I could have made to improve my fitness goals. As a former Professional MMA fighter and current BJJ competitor I needed someone to help repair old injuries and increase my strength and performance. I have gotten that and more! I worked out with Ryan for about a year and a half before leaving Oregon and can’t recommend him highly enough. This isn’t your typical big box gym training experience where you have to wait on machines while
dudes stare at themselves in the mirror and scroll TikTok for 10 minutes between sets, this is truly PERSONAL training. Ryan listens to you and develops a plan based on your goals. His years of experience really show in his planning and training and you will see results.

I only have two regrets about my time working out at Valley Strength and Fitness - 1. that I didn’t start years earlier and 2. that I moved and can no longer do so (unless Ryan decides to move to Tennnesee, of course…). I saw significant strength gains and Ryan is a pretty awesome guy to be around to boot.

What's up with this bro-y place? I started seeing a chiropractor who was renting room in Ryan's gym, and I'm going to be honest, that was my first thought.

But as I went to chiro appts, I noticed Ryan training women of all fitness levels and I appreciated how he interacted with his clients.

Long story short, I train with Ryan now! Even though he's a 20 minute drive and I have plenty of options much closer to home, his skills, technique and overall vibe have won me and my skeptical, picky self over.

Ryan's technical knowledge is top notch and current. But more important than that is his awareness and approach. I have multiple old injuries and things I have to work around, and he has infinite patience, and does a better job of keeping those injuries in mind and adjusting the workout to protect my body AND reach long-term goals than I do.

He notices, anticipates and accommodates, (his knowledge of variations on an exercise is huge) while also pushing me exactly the right amount. I've worked with trainers in the past who weren't able to strike that balance; it's a subtle skill but so important for a trainer to be able to make you feel both safe and challenged at the same time.

He's also a great cheerleader. I'm finding the joy in lifting a weight those two last times you didn't think you could, just because Ryan said you could, and did all the little things to make you believe it too.

All that and I'm starting to get biceps too. Sweet!

Working with Ryan was amazing! I really love that he focused on MY goals instead of general goals. I came to him to improve my mobility and strength in my flexibility, and he delivered.

I feel so strong, and more importantly my mobility has improved so much. My shoulder and thoracic mobility has dramatically changed, and overall I'm really happy with how Ryan customized my workouts to fit my needs. I'm also impressed that although Ryan is not as flexible as me, he was able to demonstrate and talk me through exercises with clarity.

I was able to do four sessions with Ryan and each session was great. I was shown proper technique for multiple different routines in very easily digestible explanations.

A focus for me was to better understand each muscle area so when I’m on my own I can feel when I’m properly doing each routine. Ryan was able to break down each routine to simple movements that connect for a proper execution.

I’m a 300lb+ female, have a lot of physical pain for various reasons and I struggle with some severe anxiety. I decided to try sessions with Ryan because I’m desperate to get in better shape and health. I would normally be more comfortable working with a woman, but I saw Ryan had the best reviews out there and I thought I should check him out. And man am I grateful I did! I’ve lifted wrong my entire life. People would always say “lift with your legs not your back” but my mind-body connection wasn’t there and it’s caused me a great deal of physical pain to my back and sciatica. Ryan has the BEST way of explaining things so you get it. He’ll also make sure you do! He’ll say “make sense?” and if it doesn’t, then he’ll explain a different way. He encourages you to take videos of him, and he’ll take some of you if you want so you can see the difference and know what to change. He also genuinely cares about his clients and goes above and beyond for them. I was seeing a dietician through Kaiser who suggested a certain amount of protein to me which seemed very low, and when I told Ryan what they said, he was shocked and even went out of his way to reach out to a dietician he knew to see why they would suggest that. He also explained why I should have a certain amount of protein for my weight. He’s very much about the “why” of things, and he pushes you to advocate for yourself and ask why. I was pretty scared that when I’d start training with a personal trainer, they would push me more than I was comfortable or somehow make me feel embarrassed for my lack of knowledge or capability. Ryan is patient, caring, and easy to be around. I’d leave our sessions feeling good about what I did and feeling surprised because it was fun! This is a longer review than I intended to write, but I just wanted to give more detail because if you’re like me, and you’re terrified of seeing a personal trainer and get scared about being judged at the gym, put yourself out there to see Ryan. I am six weeks into my first 12 week session and I find Ryan a delight to work with. I would not consider myself “new” to the gym scene as I’ve worked with three other trainers in the past 12 years. Ryan is an awesome dude! I came in looking to improve myself and get out of a slump I'd been in. I have been seeing him for about 6+ months now and I have a renewed confidence and attitude towards my life.

Ryan sets you up with what you are comfortable doing. He is very good at encouraging you to work through your plateaus! This is something I have been looking for! If you find yourself stuck, he is a wonderful coach to help you get through it.

I honestly appreciate the communication we have, even though it is a client/coach relationship we both get along and have very positive energy that allows for smiles and laughs during the difficult moments!

I will mention that I was hesitant to start looking at my diet at first, and he was very receptive to allow that. He hints at very strategic moments to help you think about what you're eating, it is very smart. I am doing my best to eat better!

My mental health has improved tremendously. And even though I didn't have a problem drinking alcohol, he may have inadvertently helped me reduce or stop drinking entirely. It's incredible to work out toxins you didn't realize you were holding on to.

Been training with Ryan for a few months, and I'm very pleased with the results. I had been an on-and-off gym go-er for many years and had rock climbed quite a bit, so I thought I understood weightlifting and managing a workout routine, maybe just needed a push. My time working with Ryan has shown me that I might have never had a real workout until coming to Valley Strength. Every session is a ton of volume through a variety of different movements, but despite the difficulty I have not had even a minor injury. Ryan is an awesome trainer and business owner. He has helped me work towards getting myself back to the level of fittness I was at pre-pandemic. Like a lot of people I ate too much and exercised too little the past few years. When I went back to a gym, my form was off and strength was poor, so I injured my back and shoulder. As an “old guy” planning retirement, doing something about staying healthy in my upcoming retirement has become very important to me. I tried the Club gyms. They pretend to be focused on health but it was easy to see the real driving factor was profit margin. Facilities would be dirty and maintenance slow. Club Trainers would come and go. Experience was generally entry level. Passion from the Trainers was often phoned in. Paid training sessions would be cancelled so that Club Trainers would have their time freed up to solicit new business. The Club is all about the Club and not the individual.
I was luckily in running into Ryan. He’s conducted 1,000’s of training sessions. A couple of years ago, I was a frequent visitor at a gym with no results no matter how hard I worked out. It was very frustrating and very discouraging.
