Love going to Xcel for my workouts- staff is always super friendly, facility is always very clean, and I appreciate variety of equipment they have. What keeps me coming back though is Jessica, who’s been coaching me through weightlifting basics and has given me so much more confidence in the gym. If you’re looking for a personal trainer with a multidisciplinary background who truly cares about your goals, definitely check her out!

I’ve been going to this gym since 2017, and this review is long overdue. Nonetheless, I can confidently advocate for a positive review since I’ve been part of this gym for almost 10 years.

5/5 star experience without hesitation.
The staff and front desk know everyone by name, are always friendly, and are willing to have a conversation. The equipment and layout are great and include everything you’d want from a vast selection of free weights, machines and kettle bells , plus a sauna and a turf room. They also offer daycare (which has been an absolute game changer) Monday through Friday from 8–12.

It’s open 24 hours, always clean and organized, and hands down the best gym I’ve been a part of. The team and owner are doing everything right. Highly recommend!

I have been a member of numerous gyms in Bend and Xcel Fitness outshines them all. You are always greeted by name as soon as you enter the front door. I’d like to address the issue with one of the “trainers” at Xcel. Jessica Jones has displayed an extremely entitled and arrogant attitude towards other gym patrons. Every time she is there “training” someone she finds it acceptable to leave all her stuff just lying around in the functional green room taking spots and equipment from others. It’s unacceptable that she finds it ok to just claim an area and walk away from it for 15-25+ minutes while she “trains” someone. She negatively reflects Xcel with how she disrespects others with her abrasive behavior. She shouldn’t be allowed to “train” someone out on the main gym floor. She needs to be restricted to the old CrossFit room.

Childcare 12/10! My kids love coming to see Isabelle. When I told my 6 year old we were taking a day off he cried. Highly recommend this service.

Every morning M-F Owen greets my little ones making them feel special. Tanner goes out of his way to connect and talk about movies and sports they like.

For what it's worth, this is the go-to gym in town, and it earns that spot. The equipment selection is solid, it has a sauna, and you can get a great workout in.

​However, prospective members should be aware of what they're signing up for. The facility is dated and shows its age clearly. The space is also quite limited, it can feel cramped and crowded, especially during peak hours, particularly after work.

​It’s surprising that a city as active as Bend has such a shallow pool of gym options, but this is the best of the bunch. Just manage your expectations. It's a functional, old-school gym, not a modern fitness center.

If you're in Bend, this IS the gym. Sure, you could go to a corporate gym or a community center but... why? Tanner and Owen at the front desk never fail to make you feel welcome (they both deserve raises,) the facility is clean, the equipment is high quality, and there is a diverse selection of free weights and cable machines. Isreal has done a great job of fostering a community with yearly member appreciation events. When a machine breaks (rare but it happens at every gym,) it's fixed promptly. Plus the new dumbbells are fantastic. Highly recommended if you're looking for a new gym.

Five stars isn’t enough for this place. Easily the best gym I’ve found in Oregon. Loads of free weights, dumbbells that go up in 2.5 lb increments, and a great selection of plate-loaded and pinstack equipment. Very reasonable day pass rates and I come here every time I’m in Bend. Just wish we had this gym in Eugene.

August 2025 update: Ok unfortunately I have to downgrade my assessment by one star. This is because they close at unpredictable, inexplicable times. I have been a member about 3 months and in that time I have come by to train TWICE to find the gym closed. The first time was for something called “membership appreciation day”. Today it was an entire weekend for “annual maintenance”. I can understand closing early on Christmas or the 4th etc. But not entire days. It’s still an excellent gym but this is just disappointing and something I have never experienced at any other gym.

Staying in Bend for a few weeks and needing a solid gym and this place delivers. It’s reasonably priced at $69/month compared to Snap Fitness, which is a lot more expensive. The place does get more busy than expected, even during weekdays daytime, but it has enough machines to go around for the most part. Also, the staff is friendly!

It was the fifth or sixth most coldest day of my life, and I was driving back to Bend from Corvallis after a long day. I found myself caught in the midst of a dangerous blizzard when the car in front of me suddenly slammed on the brakes at the sight of an abandoned vehicle buried in a ditch. This sent me into a slide, forcing me to make an evasive maneuver. Somehow, I managed to "Ricky Bobby" my way out and back onto the road.
As the adrenaline really kicked in, a thought dawned on me: I was entering the twilight of my life and developing a "Dad Bod." The only problem? I didn't have any kids-or an ex-wife. I wasn't a degenerate gambler. I thought to myself
"what better to do than join Excel Fitness?" | figured it'd be a good place to meet healthy, enigmatic, driven, neurotypical, single, childless, women.
So far, though, I've just been working out a lot. It's like I forgot why I started going in the first place. I haven't forgotten though. I'll check out the sauna soon. Overall, lots of room, lots of weights. Try excel today, you won't regret it.

I switched to Xcel from Snap Fitness mainly because of the sauna and I haven’t looked back (not that snap is bad at all still a great gym). The vibe here is way more motivating, and the overall energy just feels better. The staff is super friendly and upfront about pricing and memberships- no BS.

It can get a bit busy at times, but everyone I've encountered has been respectful and considerate, which makes a big difference.

If you're looking for a gym with a great atmosphere, solid amenities, and great staff, Xcel is the move.

The gym is awesome, but it's the staff and the daycare that brings it to another level. The front desk staff always greet you by your name and the day care is fantastic. I have a newborn son who spent a month in intensive care and almost died multiple times from RSV. The anxiety from that can be crippling, but I can go to the gym and resume life as normal, knowing that my newborn is in a clean, fun environment and that Jen is vigilant and closely watching the children in her care.

I got a week long membership here because my school gym was closed. Got totally hooked, the general energy in main gym is great and even when it’s packed it doesn’t feel overwhelming because there’s plenty of space and equipment for everyone. The locker rooms also have great privacy to both change and shower which is a huge bonus if you’re new to the gym. Also they have a dry sauna which has been great post workout.
Overall 10/10 recommend, especially to people new to the gym this is the place to go. The staff was also super nice and made me feel very welcomed. Definitely will be back for the summer months and I can’t wait!!

I cannot say enough good things about this place! The childcare is hands down a life saver for a single mom like myself. Jen is fantastic with the kids and the kids love going. When I moved to Bend I went to PF and asked where the free weights were, they directed me to Xcel 💥 Yeah sometimes it’s busy, sometimes a gorilla uses all the soap, and even sometimes the sauna smells like bros, but if your looking for people putting it all out there, encouraging members & front staff and a great facility, Xcel is the gym. I Seriously love friendships made there and encouragement from all.

I am familiar with a number of gyms in town and enjoy them for various different reasons. I’ve chosen Xcel as my home gym primarily because of their offering childcare 8a-12p mtwtf and the price. If I did not have kids, however, id still likely choose them for the amount of equipment they have, the turf room (including a sled and squat max/belt squat machine) and the general air that people are there to get stuff done. I love that it’s a weights heavy gym.

When I joined several years ago, the gym was in rough shape. However, it's the largest gym in town and has the most equipment. This August, they updated a lot, and it looks great. There is enough equipment so that as long as you are not going at peak times, you can make your way through your workout without waiting or modifying your sets.

The staff are also fantastic! Since I see them more than I see my colleagues, that really matters.

The locker rooms could use some renovation, but I am sure it will be part of one of their annual updates in the future.

I recently joined and can't say enough good things about Xcel Fitness! First off, Jen is a gem — my 3-year-old LOVES going to "Club X," and I’m pretty sure she thinks Jen's the coolest person on the planet. My kid gets to go to the kids zone and do crafts, have fun, and I get a full 90 minutes to myself for only $6. Best deal in town for child care, hands down!

Not only that, but the staff already knows my name — I feel like I'm walking into a place where everyone genuinely cares. The sauna is the perfect post-workout relaxation, and did I mention they have a farm store with local meats? Because, yes, you can work out and then grab fresh, locally sourced meat to cook up for dinner. A win-win!

I have been a member at Xcel for nearly 20 years. I've visited other gyms around town throughout the years, but Xcel has always been my favorite. The gym is large, lots of equipment and tons is free weights. The staff and trainers are always friendly. Every year they shut down at the end of August for a few days to do maintenance. This year I was expecting the same thing. Instead I walked back in to a brand new looking gym. New floors, new paint, some new machines. A fresh new look all the way around. I can't imagine the hours they all put in to make this happen in such a short down time. Great job guys, the gym is awesome!

Yo, we used to love this gym, but things have seriously gone downhill. The carpets are messed up with huge holes, and the equipment screws are all loose—my girl’s worried it might break on us. Also, the scales in the locker rooms are totally busted.

I usually don’t sweat the small stuff, but she’s not having it, and now I see why. She’s thinking of switching gyms, and if she goes, I’m tagging along. Fix up the place, man—it’s starting to look pretty rough.

Tried out this gym today. It’s not horrible. The gym equipment & the entire facility is definitely out dated. You can get a solid workout in, but challenging with some damaged equipment. Example: Peck Dec, one side is bent, plates don’t match & dumbbells are not well labeled or organized. Bathroom stall door doesn’t latch unless you lift up the door. Staff was friendly. The overall thing that pushed me away is the bad odor. It smells like dirty gym socks & feet. If they removed the carpet and gave it a good cleaning, then it would solve that issue.

As a recent transplant, and someone who actually prefers the commercial, big-box gyms (EoS/Gold's/24hr/LA), I stopped my gym search in Bend once I found Xcel. The formula (reasonably-priced monthly memberships, spacious free-movement/training/warmup/cooldown areas, variety in resistance training (machines/dumbbells/barbells), cardio machines) works for me and a lot of other people, hence why these gym-concepts are starting to take over the southwest/CA. Xcel likely had the golden recipe from the start; they simply offer and.. excel at, what most people want when it comes to incorporating and maintaining a fitness routine–a simple means of getting your body moving, where the only barrier to that is yourself.

I cannot even begin to rattle off the bajillions of things I adore about this gym - I’ll go with my very favorite aspects to save time 😉 the staff are the sweetest, most genuine folks. They are patient and supportive every single time I interact with them. The gym environment is maintained beautifully and the range in equipment is varied and functions great. They offer awesome kid care and I really appreciate that. They prioritize parents being able to take care of their body/mental health. My family has been doing crossfit at xcel for 1.5 years. Coaches are always supportive and willing to help mod my workout so that i can participate in crossfit. i started as an out of shape over weight 52 year old that had to mod the mod. Now i can do most workouts with little or no mod. Crossfit workout is 1 hour and it is over before you know it. No matter what shape you are in you can do crossfit with the right team suporting you.

Been going to Xcell Fitness for a little over 2 years and it's the best gym in Bend, without a doubt. The facility has plenty of space and everything you need for any style of training. It’s contantly being cleaned and maintained on the daily so it never feels dirty. There is a diverse group of people (even for Bend) who go here and everyone is friendly and respectful. The thing that impresses me the most is how the Xcel team literally knows and greets everyone by name. That’s the kind of thing that makes a difference in peoples’ lives. The kind of thing that makes them feel seen, and accepted, and important. Xcel has big, positive energy within its walls. Go check it out and you’ll see why.

Possibly the best gym in Bend, and by far the best staff. I have trained at Xcel off and on for about 10 years, and the staff has always been top tier. The equipment is always in great shape and clean, and members seem to respect the operation of the gym for the most part. There's something for almost everyone at this gym.

I’ve been at this gym for 6 months and it’s the best I’ve ever been a part of. Staff are onsite 8am-8pm and are super friendly, and eager to help with equipment or questions. Very beginner friendly, with lots of experts in the space. It’s a huge open gym that has plenty of equipment, even at 5pm, and there is always a wide demographic of ages, genders, and levels of fitness. People are friendly, the space is clean, 10/10 would recommend.

One of the best gyms I've ever had a membership at. The facility is always kept clean, the staff is always friendly and up for a quick conversation and the access to a sauna, CrossFit, childcare and massage therapist is a godsend. For everything that's offered in Bend Oregon, you will not find a deal better than excel with 24/7 access at a great price and still lots of weightlifting equipment unlike planet fitness. For someone like me who's all about the products offered rather than just a nice looking interior, this place is a gold mine for fitness people!!

Came here to help your reviews out.. "Jimmy Park" left you a bad review and did the same to out Gym, KINGMAN CROSSFIT, because he called and tried to sell us some gym management software. I told him I wasn't interested and he went back and left us a bad review for not buying his products. Be aware - get your membership cancellation request IN WRITING - or they'll continue to bill you and pretend they didn't hear it, then send your membership to collections when you flag the charges as fraudulent through your banking service.

I also highly recommend Jaelyn Israel as a personal trainer. She is very supportive, professional, and she makes workouts challenging, yet fun. She has taught this cardio junkie the joys and importance of strength training!

Swell gym equipment, splendid employees, clean , but it's always so crowded and that's very off putting. I've been a bodybuilder for a majority of my adult life and I even feel very uncomfortable 😣. I've been here a year and probably have only went a handful of times. Hopefully they'll reopen the other gym up on the south end by Fred Meyer's. Wishful hoping.

There is always open equipment when it's busy during peak times, just adjust my workout slightly. Large enough to never feel overcrowded. Xcel Fitness offers a complete weight and cross-training gym for serious and recreational athletes of all types from the dedicated weight lifting sports of power lifting and body building to cyclists like myself that spend as much time in the gym working on strength, core, and balance as our busy on-the-bike training schedule will allow. I'm in Bend for a month and have thoroughly enjoyed using Xcel's facilities and equally, getting to know Xcel's staff and a handful of folks (clients) that are using the gym. Great price, great service, great management, head on down is my advice and don't miss the dry sauna!

Do not recommend this gyms crossfit, there coaches don't coach and train on proper form. They force you until 1 year contracts to avoid paying 150$ and easily charge more than any other crossfit affiliate without even close to the same level of structure or focus. I was a skeptic about this gym because of the contract. (It is very hard to break the contract to this gym if you don’t want to go anymore). However after 1440 closed I had no choice but to join! I’m so thankful they have childcare and that the staff is super friendly. I am a huge fan and feel like family there! The pandemic really messed up a lot of businesses and Xcel was able to survive and that is a blessing! Thank you Xcel you guys rock!

Xcel is an excellent gym. It's clean, well run and everyone is really friendly. I travel a bit for work and when I do I always sign up for a week pass to a gym in whatever city/state I am staying in. I have only visited one gym that closely rivaled the comprehensiveness of the equipment that Xcel has. All of the other gyms left me missing Xcel and wishing I were at home so I could get a good workout in. Keep up the good work Team Xcel!

Ruined my credit when I tried to quit the gym. After not using the facilities for a few months, I decided to quit. Tried in person, they would not cancel my membership. Tried over the phone with their billing "service" (they don't do their own membership billing), they would not cancel my membership. They wanted me to sign up on a website. Wait, what!? I'm trying to QUIT the gym, not get access to anything. So when I cancelled my credit card to prevent them from stealing any more of my money, they reported me to the credit agencies. Absolutely horrific! I will gladly join a class action lawsuit against this organization, they should not be allowed to ruin anybody's financial reputation for not wanting to do business with them. STAY AWAY!!!

Good gym. Has good variety of equipment, clean and friendly staff. However has become completely overcrowded. There are times that I come to gym and leave immediately because of lack of available equipment or even parking. If business is booming that much then more equipment needs to be added or another location needs to be opened to members to better accommodate. Although I think Xcel is a good gym, I regret joining due to the overcrowded ness. Unless you plan on coming late at night unfortunately I have to not recommend this gym at this time.

This gym is the best in town I think. It's an open floor plan with lots of room to move around. Great selection of cardio. But more importantly there is both lever and pulley system machines, I prefer lever because its a smoother transition. Plus a large free weight area with plenty of benches.

They have charged my boyfriend for this December and January even though COVID has closed the gym. My boyfriend hasn’t gone to this gym in months and can’t get out of the contract and they keep charging him even when the gym is closed. Go to planet fitness. Fantastic. Simply put, there is not a better fitness facility around. I can’t even tell you how many gyms I’ve been to and been a member of and none of them come even remotely close to the standards set by this gym. My sister, girlfriend and I have both been members since last September, my brother has been here for over three years and just to list a few of the things to expect when you go there.. unbeatable cleanliness, friendliness and professionalism from staff, most complete gym set up and massive variety of equipment. People that go there truly don’t know how good they have it compared to other facilities. Especially during these times where running a business has to be exceptionally difficult, this gym is setting the standard for every other business in town and deserves to be applauded.
