The lady at the front desk is extremely rude and smart. She looks like she’s judging you constantly and always has an issue. I’m tired of her acting so rude every night I come in.

Great place to workout, never crowded, and the free weights are great. Definitely in the cut kinda workout spot. They need to get rid of this older black lady that works the front desk. Very disrespectful, smart mouth, and she needs to go. They change that, it will be a better place.

After a recommendation from a friend, my wife and I have had our 2 year old twin daughters in 2 swim lesson sessions at Central Penn. We couldn't be happier with both the experience the girl's have gained as well as how the instructors have engaged them and worked to build their confidence in the water

Fantastic swimming program! I honestly can’t say enough about how great the swim lessons have been for my 5 year old daughter! We’ve taken lessons before at other centers- but Central Penn is by far the best! Small class sizes with multiple instructors-and spending more time in the water, She can now swim a full lap and has gained not only confidence but safety around water!

Great gym with a welcoming atmosphere. It's rarely crowded which makes it easy to get a full workout in without waiting around. The equipment is all brand new and well maintained, and the people - both staff and members - are genuinely friendly. On top of that they have a pool which is a plus. Their restroom and locker room area is really well taken care of as well. It's aesthetically pleasing. They have this one personal trainer, the guy with the locs, I think his name is Sam. He is a very easy person to talk to. I've seen him just sit and talk with people in his office after they're done working out and seen how encouraging and honest he is when training people. Real GEM in that GYM. Front desk ladies are really sweet and welcoming and quick to help out as soon as you enter the gym. Overall, its an amazing gym.

If I could I would give 0 for this swimming class. My son learn nothing from here. I only bring here cause I already paid $400 ( for 8 classes) and they don’t do refund. you can find better place then this. I pay $50 for 2 kids for half hour, but they pick my baby hardly 3 or 4 times in half hour. It is not like they have many kids only 5 sometime 6 kids. They have many trainers. They need to change their trainers.

If you are considering joining here, I highly recommend NOT to (as of Feb 2025). Please read: The current manager does not care about the members at this gym whatsoever. He is quite proud of himself that he has been in the gym industry for 35 years and prides himself on being able to make policy changes without informing members. Policies continue to change impacting members (see earlier reviews by others who share this experience as well), but these changes are not communicated to members; nor is the information available to members. I just requested to freeze my membership, which I have done a number of times before since I go back and forth between PA and FL, and was told that I would now be charged for this freezing every month my membership is frozen. That policy is not uncommon or unreasonable. However, this change has not been communicated to members and again, nor is it available to members anywhere on the website, literature, etc. He said they were trying to get these policy changes up on the website by sometime in March. I told him that I don't think they should be charging customers yet for something they have not yet communicated or is even yet available information. He said they have the discretion to do whatever they want. You would think 35 years in the industry would have taught him to actually demonstrate care for members, ensure consistent communication about policy changes, and implement such changes with proper communication and proactive transparency. If this gym doesn't care about their members, I don't care to be one, and I hope whoever is reading this feels the same. Do not join this gym. I do have to say, the fitness classes (especially by Lori and Elliot) are fantastic--truly the best fitness classes and instructors! And they really care about everyone. It is a shame those managing the gym do not care about their members as the instructors do. <3

I really like this gym but I wish that they did a better job at keeping the women’s only room just that. I understand it’s also for senior men but there’s still supposed to be women only hours, and a lot of younger men go there as well when there are machines open on the top floor and weight room. Otherwise I really love the pool, hot tub, and sauna. I’m able to social distance well too. Edit: I’m changing it to 1 star because they have women specific hours for the women’s room and don’t enforce them. I feel so uncomfortable having older men in here with me and specifically come for the women’s only times and it’s never enforced!!! Please fix this!! Also there needs to be something done about those who don’t wipe down after themselves. Witnessing this while in the facility honestly just grosses me out.

Central Penn is a "one of a kind" place in my opinion. There are so many options to pick from! As a retired Senior Citizen, I am I able to take advantage of morning classes and especially love the aquatics classes in the Olympic sized pool. I have made many friendships there over the 8 years that I have been a member, and enjoy going whenever I can. I am always happy when I get there and and very much enjoy the pool and the hot tub! Both are very therapeutic for me! I can do things in the water that I can no longer do on land. They offer a host of non gym type activities as well. That would include things like a monthly book club, Art aciivities, and Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meetings as well as craft fairs and so many other things. The monthly lunch out with other seniors in the club is a a great way to meet new people and so enjoyable!

Only one thing I'd ask for and that is 2 buy more of the small 2, 5 and 10 pound weights that go on the Nautilus equipment as there is only one set and it's crazy trying to work out if other people need those weights too. We have a nice group of members there too. Warm smell of colitas in the air.

After reading all the reviews, I use to be a member of this facility years ago, I want to go for use of the pool. Since I work, my time at the pool would be evenings, but I didn't like it before when they had rented most of the lanes to Swim teams. I don't like the water being frigid cold, or the air temps being cold either. So, I will not be looking to ever get a membership there and the Friendship Center will be the place to get a family membership, for my spouse & I

The club used to be nice (years ago). Now all the cardio machines are shoved right inside the front door so that you're not only on display all the time, but also get the bitter cold air every time the doors open.

They did away with the steam rooms and the hot tub is never hot (when it works). The only good part of all the changes was being able to go right from the locker room into the pool (instead of trapsing through the hall like before), but with the new extremely slippery floors I'd rather walk the hallway.

It's such a different place (& not in a good way) that it's just not worth it.

I didn't even had a chance to experience the facilities and instructors, as the experience at the front desk was so bad!

The gentleman at the front desk, who refused to tell me his name, but after "investigations," I discovered it was Larry, was so unwelcoming, and on such a power trip, made this one of the worst experiences I ever had. He requested ALL my personal information: license, insurance cards, etc. But refused to state HIS name!

When I dared speak (with an accent) and question what he had explained to me as being inaccurate, he TOLD me he was going to place me on a LIST and I will NEVER be able to set foot in that Aqua Club. He refused to put me in touch with a Manager or the Owner, but being a woman of action, found him anyway.

The owner, a retired physician, CALLED me, but his only goal seemed to be to not be held responsible of "bait and switch," as a result of the way Larry, the mystery man, explained the fees schedule.
MY concern was that I had been treated in a condescending way. Dare I say, the word "bigot" came to my mind. Not sure if because I have an European accent, I am an older woman, I am not 20- years old? or Larry was in a bad mood?

The owner's follow-up call didn't make me feel any better and regretfully I must say that as a result of this overall experience I will never use either this Club, the P.T. the OIP or anything slightly connected to this facility or which PROFITS it.

I will continue to do my aqua P.T.exercise at Hetrick's Chiropractic in Middletown, where I am treated as a person and there is no Larry to make me feel like a nonperson.

Although they offer a very affordable price we found this gym to be lacking in several ways. We signed up primarily for the classes. The schedule is not varied and caters to retired people or folks who don't work till 5pm. The class schedule rarely changes.

The yoga and pilates studio was next to the Zumba class and vibrated from the loud music during class - not helpful when you are trying to relax! Management never seemed to care, even after several people complained and asked for the class time to be shifted so it wouldn't conflict with the "loud" classes.

I guess their business model is quantity of members not quality - as in offering a good experience.
Also found the cardio equipment to be lacking - only about 8 treadmills with 1 or 2 usually out of order and the others often full. There are tons of elliptical machines but no one using them...so why not buy more good treadmills.

The new spin bikes were really nice but once again the spin studio is tucked away in a dark, dismal little room. Not very inspiring. We cancelled our membership and have gone else where.

★ 2

Don't Join ...management is rude and lies. I joined recently for the pool, things were going well and I was happy. Then they rented out the entire pool to two swim teams. However, when I joined I told them it was for the pool alone, no one mentioned to me that all winter long between the hours of 5:30 and 8:00 pm the pool is unusable to paying members. The manager is so arrogant he told me that I must rearrange my schedule due to it. It's the worst customer service I have ever received. So I am stuck at a old place where machines to work out on are broken and no pool.

Clean facility, well kept machines and weights. Perfect amount of space, waiting for anything is very minimal. Hours are great, as well as cost. ★ 1

DO NOT JOIN. Central Penn will try to gouge you for money at every corner. First off there are two memberships. The non-pool membership ($25) and the pool membership ($45). They both require a year contract. The sales manager will tell you that you should get the pool membership because you can change your membership at any time. That is a lie. You cannot. After you've joined they tell you that you can only change when your membership is up. Once your membership is up and you go to change your rate they try to hit you with a $99 penalty for modifying your contract - even though your contract is expired and you are entering into a new contract. I would highly recommend NOT joining this gym. The equipment is ok and the clients are nice but I refuse to do business and allow debit access to my account with an institution that is looking to scam any chance they get.

I just signed up a week ago, so far everything is great. Prior to signing up I read all of the reviews I could find about all of the gyms in the Harrisburg area, none of the gyms had all good reviews. after reading the reviews on this page I expected poor customer service, and rude people. But to my surprise my experience has been excellent. When I first came in Larry gave me and my wife a tour of the place and a free three day pass, and when that pass was over we signed up. The crowd is a little different than I was used to over at the Y, over here the crowd seems a bit more friendlier and much more talkative to each other and to us. As compared to the Y, we had been going there for 7 years and did not ever get to know more than 3 or 4 names. The bathrooms are clean as well, which was very important to us. And it's less than half the price of our former gym.
