My grandson has been taking karate from East Coast for at least four years now, and his little sister started a few months ago. Both of them have gotten much stronger and more disciplined from the practice. The teachers here encourage the best effort from the students, and teach them with respect and kindness.

We love East Coast Karate! Our two girls enjoy every class and are always excited to go. The instructors are the best and they not only teach the mechanics of karate but also teach lessons that the kids can use in their daily lives. There are also special seminars for everyone and chances to be in tournaments to showcase their skills. Canβt say enough good things about them!

ECKI is student focused, fun, and a great place to learn. Instructors a make sure every student has their questions answered, understands the lessons, and has a time. Theyβre hands on, know everyoneβs name, and makes you want to learn more. If youβre looking to learn karate, ECKI is the place to go!!

My daughters have been coming to class here for about 7 years now. My oldest received her black belt in May of 2022 and my youngest started classes in August of 2021. They both love the school and all of their instructors. My oldest competes in tournaments and the instruction she receives has allowed her to do extremely well. It has given both girls a lot of confidence and it keeps them active and strong physically and mentally. There is a real sense of community among the students and instructors. We really love this school!

Both my children -- who never agree on anything -- love this place! The teachers are wonderful and kind and have managed to engage both my socially outgoing, rule-following daughter AND her younger brother, who has anxiety and ADHD. My kids leave each session tired but excited. It is such a relief to see my kids happy, especially after this tough 1+ year of COVID.

My 6 year old son, Josh, learned of East Coast Karate last year at his Kinder Care center. Master Jolene Westraad taught an instruction class for the students and he loved it. He immediately wanted to attend her school. Signing up was easy, the pricing is reasonable, and the instructors are awesome. They are super patient with the young children, and teach them valuable lessons that follow them out of the classroom. I have noticed a change in Josh's attitude in terms of respect and a desire to learn and better himself since starting at East Coast. Also, his confidence has risen, something I attribute to Master Stumm and Master Westraad's teachings. As said in another review, all of the teachers know all of the students, which says a lot about their dedication to the students. All of the instructors there are top notch!

My children have been coming to ECKI twice a week for the past five years! We came based on word-of-mouth from other families we knew. We stayed because of the superior instruction, excellent management and strong values. Both of my kids have benefitted tremendously (more focused, disciplined, physically fit) especially my daughter who has special needs. The instructors are kind, patient and set expectations for the students. I wish all of my kids' activities and organizations were as high-quality and ran as smoothly as ECKI.

I wish that I had enrolled my 6 year old son at East Coast Karate sooner. We'd enrolled him in the "obligatory" sports (soccer, baseball) in the past, but despite his early assurances otherwise, he never took to them. Karate has proven to be the complete opposite - and I believe that the program offered by East Coast Karate is a big part of that. The instructors practice an excellent balance of teaching, discipline and fun and are genuinely invested in each and every student. Simply said, this is a great martial arts school - I highly recommend.

These guys are fantastic. My 6 year old son takes lessons there. He is on the autism spectrum and requires patience for these types of things. Jolene is VERY patient with him. He enjoys the class a lot and is starting to learn how to control himself a little better. He's also learning how to defend himself, which is obviously a good thing, too. If I could give them six stars I would. I spoke to a few people about them before going and they all raved about how good Jolene is with the kids. I took it with a grain of salt but they were spot on. A+.

Both of my sons have trained at East Coast Karate Institute. From day one, we have been impressed with the dedication of each instructor and assistant. It is evident how much they care about their students. The education that they give is so much more than forms, kicks... It is about being the best person you can be, living a life of integrity.

From the minute we walked into the studio we felt like family! It is so important for kids/teens to have mentors in their lives. East Coast provides the tools to help their students grow into self assured adults. . East Coast teaches self discipline , leadership, perseverance, self respect and respect for others. It promotes the importance of balancing body, mind and spirit through being mindful and being in the present moment. But most importantly the kids have fun!

ECKI is a phenomenal martial arts studio. Both of my children have attended for the past few years. The instructors are encouraging, patient and professional. Both children have benefited greatly from their instruction. My children are not only physically fit and able to defend themselves, but have improved self control, attention, self esteem, perseverance, and coordination. I highly recommend ECKI!

My son has been attending East Coast Karate Institute for many years and is a 2nd degree Black Belt. When he first joined, he was quite shy and lacked self confidence. The best thing my husband and I did was enroll him here. He has grown so much and his confidence has increased tenfold. The instructors are wonderful with the young children and adults alike. They work with you one on one on your strengths and areas where you struggle, I would highly recommend East Coast Karate.

East Coast Karate is a great martial arts studio. The instructors want their students to succeed at karate and also to take the lessons they learn at karate into their everyday life as well (character, integrity, hard work, self discipline, etc.) The instructors are readily available if there are any concerns for their students. I would highly recommend ECKI. Two of my children earned their black belts through East Coast. The instructors are very knowledgeable and also very encouraging.

I have been taking class at ECKI for years, and my son did also until the time he left for college. The instructors are great, wonderful with young children, challenging for adults, and I am honored that they are a part of my life. I feel very strongly that the skills my son learned while here have helped him immeasurably in being a focused, goal oriented, athletic person.
I looked around very carefully at many martial arts studios before starting here, and I know that my decision was a great one!

Where do I begin. Simply put, East Coast Karate is an outstanding martial arts studio. Both of my children have been attending for many years and now assist. It is not simply a "Karate school." It is an institution comprised of exceptional leaders who genuinely care about the personal well being of every student. The instructor's know every student, what they are good at, what they need help with, any challenges and more importantly they know them on a personal level. They strive to not simply have the students obtain their next belt, they instead work exceptionally hard to help develop the children into fine young adults, and then into adulthood. I would need several pages to simply list the cliff notes of all of the lesson's that my children have learned, both about the martial arts and life.

I trained in Fairtex Muay Thai when I was younger. We were always taught respect and discipline. I have a daughter and I understand, Muay Thai is not the best route for self defense. Through word of mouth I learned of this place and their reputation for Tang Soo Do, which I'm interested in along with BJJ or Krav for her.
Yesterday, I waited until they opened for 35 minutes (they opened late). When the woman walked in, I stood there waiting for her to do her thing for about 10 minutes. While I stood there, another woman walked in. Apparently it was a client, because when she arrived the employee (South American accent) QUICKLY tended to her and completely ignored me. I then stood there for 20+ minutes listening to them talk about SAT scores, private school tuition, little Billy's grades, etc, etc.
The employee/instructor knew I was there. Not a "I'll be with you shortly". Not a "I'm sorry I just skipped over you". Finally, I turned and just left. Both of my children will be in intense martial arts classes. Their father was trained in Shuri-Ryu staring at 5 and then Muay Thai. He fought in smokers and then KOTC.
All I wanted was some information on self defense classes. I couldn't even get the respect of a hello at this establishment. It is a shame, because I've heard nothing but outstanding things about a family friend's instructor. Time to look elsewhere.
