I live in NYC. This Equinox is better than most of the ones in NYC. The equipment are the latest, it’s clean, and spacious.

It's mid.
No way I would go to this gym with its actual price point but I have a way to get about 80% off. It's also across the street from my job, so I actually go. The best gym is the one you actually use...So.
My $15 gym in Jersey had more and newer machines. My workout hours are odd due to my job but even with going at slow times in the gym sometimes I have to wait a little.
It is awesome they have classes, but I can't attend most of the classes because I'm working then or are super early in the am- the times are for "normal people" jobs I guess. Pretty much all classes you have to sign up for right away or be put on waitlist, tho that seems to open up often. The instructors I've had were ok but not mind blowing.
I mostly see real fit younger bodies instead of my old fat ass but no one has made me feel weird. Staff has always been pleasant and helpful.
Locker rooms seem very well attended and clean so I think that issue from other reviews got solved. I wish there was a dry sauna like my old gym instead of or in addition to the wet. It doesn't get very hot either.
I haven't used the pool or hot tub yet.
I had a massage and it was also mid- therapist was super nice but it just wasn't amazing, I expected more for the price.

I feel like the design was poor- what they should do is get rid of most of the chair/desk type space (just keep the first floor?) and put more machines in there, and then make fewer lockers but put in a dry or infrared sauna. This would help immensely. Then add more classes when they currently have none as the gym builds in number of people using.

Worst gym in Philly. Everything from the space, the layout, the steam room never working and the ceilings collapsing, staff and trainers, the management! I highly recommend going to City Fitness. Please don’t waste your money at this Equinox location.

I had a disappointing experience with a front desk employee at this gym. The staff member was unprofessional and displayed a rude attitude throughout our interaction. He was dismissive, curt, and made no effort to assist with my concerns, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere. This lack of courtesy significantly impacted my experience, and I hope management addresses this behavior to ensure better customer service in the future.

One of the worst gyms. Wasted space to large stairways, workspaces with giant desks for folks to use their laptops (why?), single machines of one kinds. I'm highly confused by what this gym is. Literally one squat rack and one smith machine. Like what? What for a $250 premium? No thank you. If you want th a gym that actually has good equipment and some great accessories, go elsewhere. Waste of space and money. Countless staff members all over the gym hanging around. I don't get it.

The bad reviews here about the vibes being off and not living up to the are hilarious. I go to the gym to workout. Unfortunately, the gym is also failing in that regard. I recently decided to augment my workouts with classes and consistently discovered there is a waitlist for almost every class worth taking. This is a simple supply problem that should be solve able but here we are. I also stopped going to the steam room post workout as it never gets hot!

It’s hard to write this without sounding like I’m exaggerating: Its actually the worst gym experience I’ve ever been a part of. Im including when i did Planet Fitness.

I’d say 3/4th of the folks I know are not renewing their memberships. The staff/trainers are wildly rude and unhelpful, they have no sense of personal space when working with 1:1 clients (multiple times I have nearly had them knock weights out of my hands while on the benches), they will interrupt your sets on single person machines to try to fit in their 1:1 clients, and the amenities like sauna are broken half the time or barely working.

If you are looking for a nice gym in center city with amenities- the Bellevue is better and about the same price. The city fitness locations are all also better value.

I love the Equinox brand and other locations, but this Philly one is an Equinox in name only. Whoever was in charge of setting this one up and hiring majorly messed up.

I don’t understand the low reviews. I’ve been an equinox all access member on and off for 5+ years and have been to multiple locations across a few states but I’m based in NY. This is the best non-destination location I’ve been to. All the equipment looks so new, it’s clean, very spacious, friendly staff, comfy leather seats, etc.

I was an equinox member in NYC before moving to Philly. Excited to see this one open, but ever since it opened it's been a disappointment. As others have said, the steam room is broken 90% of the time, the gym is incredibly humid - you take a shower and immediately start to sweat again. It's crowded, and people will bother you in the middle of your sets. The pool was closed for 6 months and just opened (no compensation was given - you still pay the full rate).

There's no communication from the team when amenities are broken. And there's no sense of urgency to repair them. The steam room has been broken since Friday according to another reviewer (it's Monday) - there haven't been any emails or efforts to alert members.

When I signed up, I had a referral and they noted I could use it against my membership. Unfortunately they make you wait a week (past the 3 day period you have to cancel) to receive this. When I went to use it, they now tell me I can't use it against my membership - I can only use it to buy their overpriced clothes in the shop.

I also just tried to cancel my membership - BE WARY OF THE 3 DAY NOTICE PERIOD. They're claiming because I'm outside this I can't cancel (I told them 5 business days after that I'm not interested since they've failed to deliver). They're continuing to fight me on this.

Overall this gym doesn't come close to the NYC equinox gyms - it's certainly not worth the fee and theres constantly issues with the gym. I feel like I've been taken for a ride here as there is no effort on their part to deliver the services you're paying for. Normally I wouldn't mind and I'd keep giving it a shot - but read the other reviews - many people think the same here and have had poor experiences.

Look elsewhere.

The “barre” class never uses the barre when the instructor is Annalisa DeFeo. She also spent the entire first 35 minutes of the class doing all ab routine on our backs. Reminds me exactly of the gym teacher we had in middle school. Waste of time and money. Was not worth coming in for. Don’t bother asking her for instructions after class on certain moves because it’s a bunch of “you’re doing everything great if it was egregious I would stop you in class you’re doing so good you’re doing so good” hot air and NO instruction on the movement. They had a great barre teacher who was black but they fired her and the male employee I spoke to about it lied with “she left with personal reasons” when it was clear that wasn’t what happen and now there are NO instructors of color. How can that be possible in a city that is majority black? The heated barre instructor on July 4 also said that if you couldn’t perform a certain ab movement “you shouldn’t even be here” well it sure would be great if Equinox had that stated in their refund policy because I wouldn’t recommend this gym to anyone. Get your instructors in order, Equinox. Also the heat wasn’t even turned on in that July 4 class.

My ex-girlfriend lives in Philly, and I'm currently in the process of mounting an all-time campaign to get her back. This may be way too much for Google Reviews, but I've been giving my heart and soul on here for years. Why stop now.

The Queen lives in Philly, and agreed to meet me for dinner on a Wednesday after a few weeks of me groveling and taking grenades.

I took the 5am train down from NYC, and worked out of this recently opened Philly Equinox all damn day. It's beautiful in here. An ample amount of space, state of the art equipment, beautiful locker rooms, a sensational work space that overlooks Rittenhouse Park, a food/smoothie bar, etc. I bodied 3 vanilla protein smoothies and a couple pieces of almond butter toast throughout the day to stay locked in.

Picture me, in this Equinox coworking space, listening to XO Tour Life on repeat for hours visualizing how this dinner would go. I don't know why that song gets me so locked in, but if I was in the UFC, this would be my walkout song.

I left my bags in this Equinox as I left for the dinner, and I didn't come back until 15 minutes after close, as the dinner went decently well. To me, if I had to get a hotel and stay the night in Philly to get my bags the next morning, that was money well spent. Put that on the game card.

However, there was still someone working and they let me in and had my bags there ready. I explained my situation and they laughed, and asked how it went. That's real. I got my bags and headed to the train station to catch my midnight train back to NYC. This is what life is all about.

Shoutout to the Philly Equinox for being there for me and providing air support while I was in the trenches. I will never forget what you did for me.

Update: Pool & plunges are now open, classes genuinely are not that hard to book. Upgrading to 5 stars.

Genuinely confused about all of the negative reviews!

My experience so far here has been great. From the day I toured, the staff members were very kind, informative, and transparent. The Hoist machines are an amazing addition, lighting in the dance studio is the perfect vibe.. everything is always clean or in the process of being cleaned, and the members seem like a friendly crowd.

The trainers I’ve seen are eager to help; working space is a bit on the smaller side but still comfortable and has never felt crowded.. which could also be based on the times I go. My only con so far is that the pool & jacuzzi aren’t open yet, I was told within the next month or two. Takes 1 star off the rating. I will be checking in on this periodically with the staff. Some classes are difficult to get into, I’ll also see how it turns out if I set an alarm to book right when slots open.

Overall, this gym just doesn’t deserve the negative reviews imo. Every place has its pitfalls but I’ve seen and experienced much worse at other places!

Took a tour of this facility last month, and there is DRASTIC differences between Equinox Philly and the Bellevue, from the equipment to the amenities, and most importantly the membership options. In my opinion, I think opening up an Equinox in Philly was an expensive mistake. I can’t see this facility surviving unless they make some big changes.

I went there for a bit more than a month and it was unfortunately an unpleasant experience. I can only echo the previous negative comments about this gym. The facility does not offer anything to justify the price they are charging. This gym is world class. I joined Equinox a few months ago and could not be happier with my decision. The facilities are clean and well maintained, the classes are efficient and challenging, and the entire staff is helpful and nice.

I also started personal training sessions here with one of the trainers, Richard Dorn. Rich is the man - he does a great job personalizing workouts that cater to my specific goals. Not only is he a great trainer, but he’s also incredibly kind, personable, and fun to be around.

I highly recommend Equinox if you are thinking about joining a luxury gym that has it all.

I’ve really enjoyed the amenities, classes, cleanliness, and friendly staff. However, a few issues have been disappointing:

1. Pool Still Closed
Despite the $200 monthly fee including pool access, it hasn’t opened yet. We were promised an early 2025 launch, then summer—but it’s now mid-June and there's no compensation offered.

2. PT Free Trial Session Concerns
I tried a PT session, and the coach seemed disengaged. When I asked about form, I got vague advice like, “If it feels okay, it should be okay.” I experienced shoulder pain afterward for a few days and chose not to report it to avoid further discomfort.

3. Rude Member Encounters
I’ve had multiple encounters with impatient members asking to use machines mid-set. One person became aggressive, and I had to report it. Others nearby agreed the behavior was inappropriate.

Overall, I love the gym’s facilities and classes, but these issues have been frustrating.

People are being so harsh about this location, but I think the Equinox is beautiful and is a great deal! You get access to unlimited classes for one monthly subscription fee. What's not to love? There are ample machines & really fun cardio machines (erg, ski erg, those curved treadmills) and all the equipment is new. The people at the smoothie shop are so friendly and so are the greeters! Special shoutout to Kat, what an amazing group fitness instructor!! Yayy for eucalyptus towels. Note: I've been to Equinox Pine Street (SF), Sports Club SF & LA, NY (Bond Street, SoHo, Chelsea, Flatiron). This location is totally great and on par!! I've been really enjoying my time there.

ANOTHER DISSAPOINTMENT FROM EQUINOX

I travel a lot and that’s the only reason I keep this membership.

I was in this location almost two month ago and pool was still not working, I have addressed that they should not put that feature on their app as one of the amenities they offer - anyway two month later - still no pool no jacuzzi and misleading information on their site.

This last time had unpleasant interaction with one of their trainers - this whole attitude like they own the gym - gotta go ! Teach them HOSPITALITY FIRST!

I wish BELLEVUE SPORTS CLUB would offer day passes - and if I lived full time in Philly that’s the club I would go to - besides being great facility they understand what “guest service” is !!!

I've been an Equinox member—on and off—since 2007, and I've always loved this brand. Over the years, I've visited more than 20 locations nationwide and remain consistently impressed by the high standards, clean design, thoughtful amenities, and elevated experience. The Rittenhouse location lives up to that standard in every way.

Equinox's choice of Philly says much about where this city is headed. It places us alongside other global cities where the brand has planted roots—and to me, that feels like a milestone. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the attention to detail—from the spotless locker rooms and sleek steam room to the polished service and premium equipment.

I've taken several classes here—Spin, Yoga, Precision Running, and Stacked—and each has been excellent. The instructors are knowledgeable and motivating, and for someone who's done a lot of boutique fitness, I think the monthly membership delivers substantial value if you take even a couple of classes per week. The juice bar is great (the smoothie I ordered reminded me of my NYC Equinox days), and the retail section is well-curated. The coworking area is small but useful.

The morning vibe is energetic but not overwhelming, and I thrive on that kind of buzz. If you prefer quiet and solitude while working out, this might not be your scene, but if you feed off community and movement, it's a perfect environment.

What I love most about Equinox is how the clubs serve as a sanctuary—a respite from the stress and overstimulation of modern city life. In a world filled with noise and digital chaos, stepping into an Equinox club feels like entering a space designed for you to reset. I'm especially excited about the pool and hot tub opening soon—very few locations have this, and it'll be a major differentiator.

Equinox is expensive, and it may not be for everyone. But I think it's money well spent for those who value innovation, precision, and consistency in their wellness experience. I'll remain a loyal member as long as I can—and I'm proud that Philly now has a club of this caliber.

Like most of the other reviews, I am really disappointed in this gym. It is essentially mid-April and the pool is still not open. I was promised when I joined months before the actual gym opened that everything would be available on day one.

Group fitness classes are impossible to get into unless you set reminders and register the second a booking opens. Even if you are one minute late to register you are on the wait list.

I also don't think the instructors are very hard. I came from a very challenging barre studio and don't think these classes compare in the slightest.

The studio is decently clean, but besides that I don't have much positive things to say.

Overall, really unhappy.

Solid gym with a few laws. Very clean gym with high-quality equipment. Classes have been a hit or miss for me, but Brian's Vinyassa class is great and very welcoming to beginners. There is enough variety that you may find a class that clicks with you.

The criticism regarding the delayed opening and ongoing delay of the pool and cold plunge I think are fair, however.

The signup process could also improve. Applying my Amex Plat benefits was tedious and difficult in what should have been a seamless process.

Overall, I think the gym is a work in progress, but delivered on the biggest picture tasks of providing high-quality equipment in a thoughtfully designed space with a limited footprint.

★ 2

The excitement was big but the disappointment was even bigger. What Equinox represents in other cities cannot be compared with this basic and average gym setup they put in place in Philly.

First, they delayed the opening by months. They rushed to open it in January without having finalized the pool area. To this day, two months later, the pool area is still not open, while they have the audacity to charge the members full price.

Second, even if you disregard the missing pool area and focus on what is already there it can only be described as quasi-functional in mediocre conditions. A bar collapsed the first day they opened. The heating in their “hot yoga” sessions doesn’t properly work. And, a genius had the idea to place the locker rooms with tiny lockers in the very back of the gym as if they didn’t want people to use it.

Third, the entire system with booking classes is extremely frustrating. Classes are booked within seconds of the 26h-window opening. If you actually manage to get a spot you face the risk that the class was overbooked.

I could go on with negative comments but I will stop here. Their fancy eucalyptus towels won’t compensate for all the flaws and rudeness they have shown over the past weeks. I ask anyone to reconsider joining that facility. The two stars I have given here are a generous rating

Equinox in Rittenhouse is truly top-notch. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted with a smile and called by name by the staff, making you feel welcomed and part of a community. The equipment is state-of-the-art, the music sets the perfect vibe, and the amenities are second to none. The Fitness Trainers/Coaches here are absolute A-listers—special shoutout to Brandon Tyler, Chris DeJesus, and Kool-Aid! They are incredibly knowledgeable, not just about fitness but also nutrition, ensuring you’re set up for success in every way. They even offer tips and support while you are strength training on the floor. Center City has definitely needed a gym like this—it’s the Four Seasons of gyms. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to elevate their fitness game!

I have been at Equinox Rittenhouse for 2 days. I wanted to love it, trust me. My daughter went off to college in Sept. leaving me a single empty nester. This was my gift to myself to help me refocus my attention on myself while she is away. Like Nyeisha in a previous review mentioned, the timeline shifts and delays were frustrating. Then to have them open mid-January so unceremoniously was also not cool. Maybe I hyped it up in my head, but I expected many more amenities and I also thought that the reformers were available as a class to sign up for, not an extra fee. The lights are way too clinical/sterile/bright looking. It's also much smaller than I thought it would be. Especially the co-working space. Also, It's a little overwhelming walking into austere lobby with 4-6 individuals just staring at you feels a bit overwhelming. Maybe I'm just too introverted for the gym. I'm sensitive and the florescent lighting depresses me and feels very uninviting which is why i haven't tried any of the equipment. The treadmills are too close together. I don't want to be that close to anyone I don't know sweating and wafting body smells.

It was insanely crowed over the weekend so maybe I'll feel better about it when I go during the week. I did the dance cardio class and it was very uninspired. The woman who lead class was nice but much of the choreo was off beat, the lights were way too high and the music was homogenous with strictly artists like Britney, Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift. It did not feel inclusive. So far I'm not impressed; at the end of the day it just felt like a regular, degular gym. No sauna is insane! At least they could have put in an infrared sauna. I'm giving it 3 months and if I haven't warmed up to it I'm out.

Edit: It has been a month so I'm back to update my review. I've met a few kind people during my visit. The trainers John and Alena are really kind, warm and welcoming. I appreciate the Pilates teacher Kelsie Daniels. She has a great personality and her class is fun and challenging. Bre Broderick is another stand out. All but one of the class teachers have been great in their own way. My rating remains the same unfortunately because the vibe of this club is terrible. People are standoffish, snobby, and and unfriendly--my plans to use this club as a way to meet new, like-minded people are rapidly fading. Why isn't anyone talking to each other? I smile, say bless you when people sneeze, make funny comments when appropriate and nada. Don't join here if you're seeking an alternate way to connect with humans. I get bummed when I have to come be amongst this sea of Fitbots. I wish I could be more happy here. The cost of this gym is quite the monthly sacrifice for me. It's a bit lonely to be surrounded by so many people yet feel so alone honesty. Maybe the club could plan some social events? Also big ups to the Smoothie Bar staff! They are dope. I go speak my broken Spanish with them and they hype me up! Love them.

I’ve only been here a handful of times but have enjoyed it. I’ve taken two classes, mat Pilates and cardio boxing. It can be difficult to schedule the more popular classes but I’ve noticed sometimes the wait list goes by fast. The gym space is clean and well lit. I do find it to be very warm in the gym though.

I wish they offered some more of the equinox classes but I’m sure that’s to come as they grow.

Where do I even begin…

Will just dive in with you can’t get a class unless you have nothing else to do at 5am but wake up at 4:30am and get ready to hit book it! You have to book the classes same day or 24 hours. “I’ll post pic of everything booked all day at 5:15am when I sign on to get a class”

The pool, jacuzzi, cold plunge have not been open since the club opened and we have not been compensated for this at all even when asked. We are missing the entire 3rd floor and paying the same price as if there was one.

Do not bring anything with you at all! The are known thefts that work as bathroom attendants I myself have had multiple things stolen out of my locker and while in the shower. I’m also aware of a few members that have had things stolen from them while the lockers were locked. Wallets, necklaces, money, phones, etc.. they are able to open lockers locks with a master code. Nice.

The gym is ok not as clean as it should be especially for being new. Some of the equipment is good like the treadmills. There is no shoulder fly machine… this is crazy to me. No big tv’s you can technically watch tv built into the treadmill but most of them don’t have Internet or connect to anything so.. I can’t run and look down at a mini screen anyway.

I do not think the gym is ran properly. I don’t think it’s worth the money. I was hoping for a lot more! It’s sad to say the sporting club is a better gym than equinox.

Update: If you're frustrated about the delayed pool opening, email the general manager and ask for a $50 gift card + 2 guest passes.

I’ve been underwhelmed by my experience at Rittenhouse Equinox so far.

The pool still isn’t open, with no proactive communication about its status.

Prime-time workout classes are overcrowded, making the experience less enjoyable. Booking just a few fewer people would help.

I’ve had better experiences at Fitler Club, F45, and Barry’s.

My girlfriend also just took a heated yoga class where the heating wasn’t working - just another sign that this club still feels like a work in progress.

Overall, it’s more expensive than it should be.

As a former Fitler Club member since the launch, Equinox Rittenhouse provides a similar experience for half the monthly price albeit half the amenities. If you’re just looking for a gym, there are several in the city to choose from, this probably shouldn’t be your first choice because it’s much more than just a gym. Sure you don’t have bars, restaurants, a bowling alley, movie theatre, and parking…however it has everything else centered around fitness. The workout facilities and staff are arguably better than Fitler Club, as well as the apparel store, the snack bar, cold plunge, lap pool, steam room, business/lounge area, spa, etc….The classes are insane, the layout is modern, and the dedicated Equinox + app make it worth the money if you go 4-5x a week.

Equinox, the luxury gym experience we’ve all been waiting for, or not. During pre-sales, they promised to be open by the end of 2024, but here we are with an email casually announcing a mid-January 2025 opening. Because nothing says ‘premium service’ like delayed promises and shifting timelines, right?

And let’s not forget the cherry on top—this luxury gym won’t even have a sauna. I mean, what’s next? No towels? No running water? If this is a preview of how things will be run, I can only imagine the ‘luxury’ membership experience we’re in for. Let’s hope they stick to their new timeline and the gym lives up to the brand hype, but so far, it’s feeling more like a luxury of patience than anything else.
