Before joining ICA, I read a review that said “you’ll never meet somebody who doesn’t want to be there”
Now after joining, I can confirm that everybody— owners, coaches, members, etc. is there because they want to succeed and want YOU to succeed with them. Regardless of where you are on your fitness journey, it’s the most inclusive and best gym community I’ve experienced. I’m very happy I found this one.

Was in the area visiting friends and found this CF to drop into. John the owner was super friendly and accommodating! Coaches were awesome! Community was so welcoming. The facility is legit…so many class time options and lots of areas to workout in. They basically have any piece of equipment you can think of. I love my box back home but boy is this a close second! Highly recommend if you are in the area! I would be a member if I lived here and wasn’t just visiting but I will be sure to drop in anytime I am back for a visit!

The owners, coaches, programming and community are all absolutely amazing at ICA. You won’t meet a single person that doesn’t want to be at Iron Cross, which then fosters positive energy and an environment everyone thrives in. Thank you to John, Nikki and the staff for making fitness fun again!

Reflecting on decades of athletics and gym memberships, John Warnek is the best coach I have ever seen in action. His passion radiates like a “kid in the candy shop” and his balance of encouragement/accountability serves his athletes well. Years later, I still hear his voice inside my head as I approach a daunting lift or am buckled over trying to catch my breath. #Legend

I've been a member of ICA almost 3 years and I love it more and more with every year! John & Nikki listen. They evolve. They expand. They constantly make an effort to keep the gym extremely well equipped, clean and professional! They make you feel very welcomed & very well taken care of. There's a great communication and a personal approach to every member. All of the coaches are helpful and energetic. It's also a healthy and great environment that changes your life!

Poped in for a drop in class while visiting family from the area. Facilities were great, email communication fantastic, coaching and programming was great (always appreciate the coach coming up and asking about background and any injuries they should know about). Will come back again for sure!

My wife and I have dropped in to several boxes in the area when we've come up to visit family. This has, by far, become one of our favorites. Not only is the community friendly and welcoming, the coaches greeted us immediately and introduced us to others in the class.
Kelsey (our coach) was knowledgeable and friendly, and ran class efficiently. Another coach (Ricky) was in the class before ours and took the time to introduce himself and also make us feel welcomed as well. This was one of the qualities we noticed most - they just make you feel like they want you to be there (unlike some other boxes in the area).
During the class, Kelsey took great care in warming us up, demonstrating the movements, and breaking us into manageable groups so she could watch everyone lift. She provided good feedback and cues and made sure to "visit" everyone in class. Ricky even came out to encourage me during my last set of our lifting complex which I loved.
If you've been considering joining ICA, or have been a lurker for a while, I'd say you should stop waiting and take the leap. I don't think you'll regret your decision.

The best CrossFit gym in the Phoenixville / Pottstown / Spring City area. The coaches know their stuff and safety is always a priority. This is not a highly competitive gym but more of a friendly place to get a great workout in a super positive environment.

I'm now 3+ years into my CrossFit experience and I've continued to have a incredible time working out with the Iron Cross Athletics crew. Not only do we work hard together, but we have fun together outside of the gym. It's an incredible community that has been fostered by ICA's owners, John and Nikki.
Over the last 3 yrs, I have had the opportunity to visit more than a dozen gyms while traveling and the level of instruction at Iron Cross Athletics is top notch. Every workout begins with a warm up, a thorough instruction of the workout's movements (incl appropriate, safe scaling) and then we go. The programming varies between metcons & lifts on different days.
The best part about ICA is that all levels are welcome & encouraged! The membership is like family and we celebrate PRs, first pull-ups and muscle-ups all with the same excitement. In short, I'm grateful for the people Iron Cross Athletics has brought into my life.
And PS: that trail running past of mine hasn't suffered. In the last 3 years, I've run three different 50K races, completed a 40 mile race and a marathon all with the training and support of ICA.
Original Review: 2013
Full disclosure: I am an avid trail runner/ultra runner and had a handful of friends that participated in CrossFit.
So, the push to get more interested in CrossFit stemmed from a trail race. A friend of mine was running the same race & KICKED MY A$$. She had always been a solid runner, but she blew me away. At the finish, I asked, "so, what's different in your training?" Her response: "CrossFit."
The mister and me did a search of local CrossFit affiliates and came upon Iron Cross Atletics. We made an appointment to meet with the owner and learn more.
We met in the gym where there were a dozen or so men and women (all ages) working out. We sat down with John and talked about his background & experience in CrossFit, what ICA offers, what our fitness past was like and goals for exploring CrossFit. There was *no* pitch. It was a conversation, and I appreciated that. After about our chat, he invited us to experience some of the movements of CrossFit and to do a baseline workout: 500m row, 40 air squats, 30 sit ups, 20 push ups, and 10 pull ups for time.
I thought it was pretty cool. The mister saw the intensity on my face as I finished the pull ups and he knew we were signing up on the spot.
We committed to a 4-class fundamental series and a 6-month unlimited membership. The fundamental class is capped at 3 or 4 people and you are taught the proper techniques of weightlifting and given a taste of traditional workouts. Even though I had been a regular member of a gym for the better part of 13 years, I was never taught proper weightlifting techniques and rarely--if ever--did body weight bearing activities (push-ups, pull-ups).
I was intimidated for my first workout, but the coach made sure to introduce herself to me at the start of the workout and several other members did the same. Wow...what a great start. :-)
I began to get more involved and taking advantage of several workouts during the week. I even started to look forward to workouts more so than before. The members in my workouts were friendly, the coaches were well-equipped to teach and demonstrate the movements, and I *never* felt that our activity was unsafe. This is important, because you'll see there are plenty of articles with negative statements about CrossFit and that it's very dangerous.
The owners, John and Nikki, have in-depth experience in CrossFit (both from the participant and coach side). The membership at ICA represent a diverse background of life experiences, abilities and strengths. One across-the-board characteristic is that every member of ICA is ready to give you positive encouragement and help you do well. ICA is not a place for egos. ICA is a place to challenge yourself, have fun in the process, and see yourself improve (at your own pace). So much of this can be attributed to the environment fostered by the owners, as well as the coaches.

The best box I've ever been to.
I recently had to move and I've tried a few new places around me but none of them compare to what ICA offered. Hands down the best coaching you will find for the money. John (owner) is an amazing coach that truly cares about the form and mechanics of all his members. He instills this same mentality with all of his coaches as well. Simply great people to work with.
Going past the coaching, the community is top notch as well. When I first started, I expected to simply go work out but ended up making a bunch of friends. Any new members can expect to make good friends quickly and will have plenty of opportunities to hang out with people outside of a workout if they so desire. The owners routinely sponsor community events and get-togethers.
You can't go wrong with this tight-knit community.

I came across ICA when I was living in Phoenixville. A few years later I moved to Ardmore Pa. I enjoyed working out at ICA so much that I keep my membership and commuted up to Phoenixville each day to work out.
Iron Cross Athletics is the GOLD STANDERED!
The Owners & Coaches are Extremely Knowledgeable and very hands on.
The members are great hard working people that are a lot of fun to be around.

I have worked with many CrossFit coaches and boxes for the last few years, and John Warnek and Mark Kehl are two of the most knowledgeable and and motivating coaches I know. They are far and away some of the best I have ever worked with. I can't say enough good things about them and the coaching they offer at Iron Cross.

I joined Iron Cross Athletics (ICA) five months ago. I am in my late 50’s and knew I needed a change – something more than a regular gym. I met with John, one of the co-owners, and got a good sense that he really knew a lot about getting in shape and doing so safely.
When I started I was not in shape and the first few weeks were hard. However, everyone is really supportive and all the coaches are fantastic. There are many types of members with different objectives, but this is a really fun and supportive group. With a little diet change and ICA I have lost 25 pounds and am in much better condition. The workouts can be hard, but I feel so much the better for it. For anyone looking to get in shape, make some friends and have fun I urge them to check out ICA.

As an older person looking to start exercising and having heard all of the horror stories about Cross Fit I decided to try a free class at Iron Cross Athletics as they were close to my work.
I couldn't have been more impressed with the owners and coaches, they stress safety in every movement while giving even the strongest members a real good workout. The staff and members form a real community that has been welcoming and fun. There are all kinds of fun "outside of the box" activities to support the club and community.
I love this place!

I did a drop-in class while visiting family and was very impressed. It was my first time going into "someone else's" box, but everyone was really welcoming, and John was a great coach to have a class with. The facility was set up well, too, and there was a ton of space to move and do the workouts. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone local looking to get involved or continue with crossfit.
