Our daughter loves kids swim first swim. The staff is super friendly when you walk in, it appears they love kids with the exception of Jalen. She has to be the worst swim “teacher” ever. She will never get in the pool with the kids. Jalen sits on the side of the pool joking around with kids, gives minimal direction, does not keep the kids focused and will not correct the kids when they are doing something wrong. Unfortunately she “teaches” level 6 and there’s no other options for another teacher.

We've had our 2 kids taking lessons here for a couple years now. Our original goal was to simply make sure they could be safe in the water. But we've kept going because they both love it so much. The instructors are encouraging and motivated to teach. My son was struggling with a specific skill, and one of the instructors asked to work 1 on 1 with him to improve his confidence. Just 1 extra lesson made a huge difference, and her enthusiasm for his success i know helped as much as her actual teaching. Wonderful place to learn to swim!

Definitely recommend KFSS for little ones with no water experience. My kids attended for over a year and learned so much and gained more comfort with water. From screaming and clinging for life day 1 to being able to jump in the deep end and hold their breath swimming across the pool, they came a long way. The pool is designed to be shallow for the kids, and the water is clean and comfortable temperature always.

The instructors are all so nice, patient, and attentive to the kids. A special shout out to Ms. Kenzie who dealt with our kids moody days, in & out listening skills, and nervousness around water- they loved having her as an instructor. Mr. Brian was also wonderful- a good coach, encouraging, and constructive in helping the kids learn proper swimming techniques.

We are taking a break for classes for a bit, but will continue to recommend and will likely return again in the future!

Update:
I decided to give this another chance since it's under new ownership and it is a complete 180! We love coming here. It's cleaner and the staff seems more relaxed and engaged.

We been going here as our preferred place is being renovated.
The place is filthy. I don't think they sweep or clean and the price is almost double the amount at other competitors. For only being open for less than 2 years it is really run down. The bathrooms are disgusting and the changing rooms have a film of dirt all around.
As per the instructors, they do okay. I wish they would talk to the parents about what level your kid can move up to or what they can do to improve on.
My biggest concern is the owner. He is all about bringing in new customers to make $$. I hear him talking during practices to his staff (which are mainly high school girls) and it's borderline inappropriate. I have heard him talk to them about his relationship status and troubles at home.
We won't be returning. Some of the staff are really nice, but between the lack of communication, the filth, and the owner, I am uncomfortable bringing my kids anymore.

I had a “pool emergency” on Friday. At 4pm the hotel I had booked for my daughter’s birthday party cancelled and the party was set to start at 6pm that day. So I desperately called Kids First Swim School and Emily answered the call. She was so kind and saved the day! She was our hero and was able to book an hour of swim time for us with virtually no notice! She even called to ensure she could find a lifeguard to come in for us for that hour. Emily and the lifeguard were both so kind to the kids and we are so grateful for them for being our hero’s that day! Will absolutely be back again and we are telling everyone we know how great Kids First Swim School is!! 10/10 recommend!!

I visited this facility to possibly enroll my kids during an open house. The staff rushed me and the in water experience was only 8 minutes. The male instructor I had was getting visibly mad about the fact that he had to assess my child and he said something to his coworker when finished which seemed to be about him . The facility is disgusting I even saw a bunch of ants and a beetle when I was there. Definitely not enrolling my son here. I would not recommend. I just enrolled him at Jewish swim schools and they are so kind and sweet there. This school is terrible. We bring children of all ages here. When I was talking my 9 month old past the staff room the door was opened a bit and I saw two men sitting at a desk vaping. This is unacceptable these walls and ceiling tiles which are falling apart by the way aren’t gonna keep the toxins away. On top of that manager didn’t even tell one of the parents to stop vaping in the lobby. I have heard the manager talk about some of the other parents or kids just because they expressed concerns about their children. This is important we need to make sure something happens about this.

We enjoy the classes for our baby so much! Jalen is a great teacher! However, one suggestion we have is regarding the cleaning and hygiene of the facilities. Especially with so many little ones, I just hope the facilities were cleaner so we can all be comfortable in and out the pool. Since we moved to York from NJ, we found this school a year later for our daughter and it's been the best decision we ever made.
Our daughter used to be afraid to jump in the water, now she is a level 6 swimmer. We are trully happy with the instructors there. Everyone has been extremely helpful, kind, and friendly. We as parents are very happy with them and will recommend this school .

Will not be returning. We changed the day of our class over the holidays; meanwhile they changed a policy for the mommy/daddy & me class only allowing one parent to be in the water. We received no communication of this change besides being told in person AFTER our class. Funny we got a email about a price increase but not about this.. Would not provide a refund even though it was poor communication on their end. Spoke to the regional manager and got approved to complete our month with two parents in the water; however, we are choosing not to return. Hope $105 for the month was worth losing us and our friends!

Also at our last class a kid vomited in the pool. Staff stopped what they were doing got one side of the pool out of the water and left the mommy/daddy &me class in the water while they took nets to the water… found out after a kid vomited and there was NO communication! So we were swimming in vomit!

Will not be recommending Kid First to anyone from now on!

Kids first has helped my son love swim again. He had a situation with a pool when he was younger and was scared of pools after that. Both my children actually looked forward to going to swim class. And we were pretty please with the place, then out of nowhere we're told that our son didn't seem to be learning anything because he was always getting unfocused. Mind you we did mention that he has autismand adhd and would get unfocused, that's just how he is. Yes when it wasn't his turn he would get distracted by the rope or jumping up and down in the pool. I definitely know how that can be frustrating for an instructor but like I said we had already mentioned how he was and they said it was ok their instructors were all trained. Great! Then weeks later we're pretty much told our only option is to put him in a private class or he may not come back. We have 2 children we can't afford private classes so we just opted to take both out.

We have been very happy with doing swim lessons at KFSS. My 4 year old has been having lessons for the past 3 months and has been having so much fun as well as learning. Paige has been the instructor he has had the most and we feel she is patient, fun , and very insightful to the needs and abilities of my son. He looks forward to going to swim every week! I would not recommend this swim school for anyone who actually wants their child to learn anything beyond the very basics of swimming. The majority of the lesson is spent “playing” and not learning. I legitimately watched my child swim MAYBE 3 laps across the short length of the pool and then took turns diving for rings. I have a pool at home and she can “play” at home. I can honestly say that my child has not really learned anything beyond what she already knew and she’s been in lessons for 5 months.

Great relatively inexpensive family activity. Love having access to a pool that’s also warm and shallow for little kids. Can get a bit overcrowded and maybe a little rowdy at times. Our daughter has been attending KFSS for two-plus years now and she is thriving! Because my in-laws have a pool and my MIL watches our daughter after school and in summer, her learning to swim early was crucially important to us. She loves the one-on-one tailored attention and she responds well to the instructors’ positive feedback. We have been bringing her since the school opened but hall new management has elevated the school far above its original level. The instructors clearly care for the students and their development and will make suggestions based on what’s best for the student. Although each swim level has its own metrics and benchmarks, the instructors are able to tailor the lessons to the child’s skill and development. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a solid swim instruction program for their child.

I am so impressed with this swim school! I received the best customer service over the phone with their Assistant General Manager while discussing my childrens need’s, age, ability, swim experience, etc. I was able to find the perfect swim class level for both of my kids. My son made massive progress in just 2 private lessons. As of recently, this company is under new ownership. I personally did not have a problem with the previous owners, but apparently there were issues unbeknownst to us. The new staff called me to 12/3 to ask if I would be interested in signing up my kids again for swim lessons given that there is new ownership, swim instructors, staff, etc., and told me about a promotion that was going on for December and January where you could have $40 off the monthly membership… Which was then followed up from the staff member saying “oh I’m sorry you had to be signed up by December 1 but I will check with my manager” in the same conversation. I called back the next day as advised and they couldn’t do anything for me for this promotion; even though they had called ME to ask ME for my business, and then tell me about this special going on that they actually couldn’t honor. So far I’m not impressed!

I called to get information about classes for my grandson before signing him up. I stated he has allergies so his nose is stuffy and he DOES NOT like water in his eyes so he wears a swim mask. I was very specific about a using a swim mask (NOT goggles). I was told it wouldn’t be a problem.

After class my grandson was very upset and said the instructor was mean. She WOULD NOT let him use his mask and was yelling at him about putting his face in the water.

I talked to the TEENAGER at the front desk to discuss the swim mask and let her know I was told my grandson could use the mask when I signed up. She proceeded to tell me why he couldn’t use a mask and maybe the instructor would allow goggles. I again explained I was told the swim mask would be allowed BEFORE I signed my grandson up for the classes. She again explained why the mask isn’t allowed.

There were no adults employees to be seen in the facility. I tried calling the facility several times this week and no one answered the phone. Messages cannot be left at the facilities phone number.

I would not recommend this place! At least the york location- I called to sign my 3 year up for swim lessons, I asked my questions, it was to be 5 kids to a teacher. When we arrived there was no one to assist us in finding where things were as we just followed other goers. When it was time to for the class they were every short staff which can happen, everywhere is short staffed. However there was 6 little kids in the class, the instructor kept turning her back to help the other class as that instructor must have been new. My child bi passed her twice and completely going under the water 2 times she managed to kick her way back as she has some water safety. Then when the 1/2 hr was up the instructor expected the 3-5 year old to walk along the pool and up the stairs independently. When reaching out to the swim school I never got a return call. The next week they called to say they had to cancel due to short staffing. I said we would not return and would like to talk to the manager so the front desk sent it over but as of now I have not gotten a return call. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

Instructors are really rude and they don’t pay attention to your kid they just waste their time to get pay. Instructor treat your kid really awful. And your kid will not learn anything. I would not recommend to this place to anyone.

Somewhat unorganized. Had to make some last minute schedule changes which I was told would be fine, but it was an issue every time. The last night there, there someone new at the front desk who wasn’t the regular person there but who awkward to communicate with. The place could use better maintenance, the bathrooms were always dirty. There’s a disconnect between the kids and their instructors, we didn’t even know their names. Instructors are very young, seem like high school students. Which is fine, they just didn’t seem motivated to teach. I wouldn’t recommend

We had my Son's birthday party there on Sunday. The floor and tables were extremely dirty from a party the night before. We asked for a broom thinking the owner and staff would be clued into the fact that the place was dirty but instead he left the broom there for us to do ourselves. We then asked for a mop as there was cake smashed into the floor. He spot mopped but it still was dirty. The one female staff then came over an apologized for it being this way and offered to help. There was even half empty water bottles and plastic wrap from the party the night before stuffed under the table cubby area. This place could be great if it was just cleaner. This kids had a great time and it was a great price. It just needs a better presentation and some love and the owner could have a nice little business. On a positive note, the owner did engage with the kids and offered swimming advice and even tolerated some kids getting him wet to play with him. Like I said this place just needs some TLC.

Absolutely do not recommend. Very unclean, “instructors” are totally hands off and not at all what you would expect in a ‘instructor led’ class. Was told “do whatever you want” and “I’m just making stuff up as I go.” They also don’t crack a smile to save their lives. So beyond disappointed. On top of that, they conned us out of $. Charged us for multiple classes at one saying we could get a refund if we don’t move forward. Called and supposedly was waiting on an answer from the owner. Nothing. It’s been several months. The facility is also extremely unclean. The bottom of your feet/shoes will be BLACK when you leave. Highly highly highly do not recommend.

We were very disappointed in the experience. The classes were packed and each instructor had 4 or 5 kids. There was no communication to any of the parents how the kids were doing, what they needed to work on. When the session series ended that was it we didn’t get asked to sign back up what level we should be in what still needs to be worked on or did she exceed and should go on. The parents all talked and said what do we do next? It was a very un professionally run experience and the instructors said multiple times the owner doesn’t care. From the organization and the building upkeep it does appear the staff may be on to something

No one has ever answered the phone in the past 10 times that I've called in the past 3 weeks. It rings and rings and rings and there is no answering machine. I just want to enroll my son in swimming lessons, guess I will have to look elsewhere

We took our two year old there and we all loved it! The owner himself was always there and with a smile greeted everyone and at the end offered my daughter a piece of candy and told her she did great! My little girl is pretty big for her age because she is was two she needed to be in the mommy and me class which is perfect because she would never have gone in the pool without me and when we started we did the same thing most weeks again because of her age group there was infants in the class so what we were doing for them was perfect. At the time I wasn’t sure it was perfect for my two year old because I was expecting something a little different every week, however I was wrong my daughter used the lesson they did in that class in the winter time (which was throwing a rubber duck and I hold her on her stomach while she kicks to it to get it.) the second she got in a pool a few days ago with her floaty vest she asked me for a rubber duck proceeded to throw it in the water just like we did at swim school and kick to it by herself where she couldn’t touch and now in three times being in the pool she can swim on her own with no help at two! Thank you kids first swim school you guys taught her what she needed to know at a young age!! So if you have doubts that the class is not working or you are accepting more please trust the people that work there and the way they are doing things because It works! Also the instructor also addressed my child by her name after the first lesson and she had an easy 10 kids in the class just when I was there! We loved it now I can feel confident when we go to the pool we are members of this summer that she knows what she is doing!

First day of swim we were very pleased, it was clean and had SO many changing areas and space. My only suggestion is the instructors could talk louder because that were a bit had to hear and the first section has a significant glare which made it hard to see and take pictures.

I asked and was reassured that they had instructors for private lessons that had knowledge of kiddos with Autism. I explained that my son was non verbal but a happy visual learner who could follow instructions. First couple of lessons were good with an instructor named Emma, after that she disappeared and they began putting my son with anyone. We were always starting at ground zero negating any progress made. The final straw was him being placed with yet another instructor that just the week before was removed from another child with a private lesson the same time as ours because of complaints by the parents of her watching the clock and not engaging the child. She proceeded to watch my son play in the filter for a half an hour. I brought my concerns to the manager and he walked away and started mopping without addressing my valid concerns at all. Not even an apology. UNBELIEVABLE. If your child does not have a disability and you don’t mind chaos and teenagers watching the clock and half teaching your child, then this is your place. Otherwise look elsewhere because they will say anything to get your hard earned money. I will never put my son in that situation again. Kids First York needs a lesson in Customer Service, Honesty, Inclusion, and Professionalism because ALL are lacking at this location. I will be contacting Autism York so they do not refer any special needs parents there!
