Old and broken equipment. Feels like half the machines is not functional. Floor isn't level for a lot of the gym and is also begging to rip and tear. None of the equipment bolted on the ground anymore. Cardio machines are from the 00s. Everything is just bad.

This has to be one of if not THE worst gym in the city. Itβs changed hands from Ballys to La Fitness and now an Esportq. The only thing it has going for it is the location and parkingβ¦itβs only La Fitness / Esporta in South Philly area. The machines are the same old machines from when it was Ballyβs in 2010 or earlier. Thereβs always a handful of machines where the cables are broken and have a sign βscheduled for serviceββ¦scheduled for when? Was just talking to a fellow patron about how bad it is and we both βreminiscedβ how 1 of 2 leg extension machines have been βscheduledβ for 2+ years. I then went around and counted at least 5 machines that are out of service. And good luck reading any of the weight stickers on the machinesβ¦barely legible on most machines. In addition, thereβs only TWO 5 lb weight plates in the entire gym. Locker room is gross with half the time paper towels arenβt available. The floor mats in the weigh area are crumbling apart in places. Seriously? When will ownership finally put some money into this location and turn it around.

Recently joined this gym because I wanted more options for equipment. The staff is outgoing and friendly. Some of the reviews noted concerns with the equipment and they're right. Some of the machines/cardio equipment do need some maintenance but I get a solid workout every time. This gym also has a sauna, changing room and showers.

So the app stopped working for me a year and a half ago. After 8 attempts to fix the app and get my credentials back failed, so I gave up. And have been satisfied simply getting checked in.
A year and a half later I had an employee, whom I assume is a sales rep from the company, tell me he's no longer going to check me in, that I should use the app. I have the app and he said no you dont...not too good a rep. I expect that type of communication from a bouncer.
If I could use the app I would. I have no complaints about having to wait to check in and get a workout in. I also have little time since between my 2 jobs I've had about 6 days off since June 2020 and generally work about 60+ hour weeks as a sales rep and lyft driver. I work a ton and it hasn't been a very important task for me to prioritize. Especially since the other locations I've been to don't seem to have a problem checking me in.
The fact that it's an issue makes me question. The professionalism of the staff. The staff. should keep their opinions to themselves. Also why would I want to continue to come to this location if the staff are going to be lazy and complain about a minor task that is in their job description. Not sur I want to come back to this location. It's also a bad precedent be setting. It says we don't care about our customers and we don't want to be inconvenienced. It that is the reps attitude I think he needs to find another line of work lol.also if the employee was a manager I'm sorry for your luck.

I attended this gym from 2016-2017 under previous management and needless to say, things were a train wreck. Problems ranged from poor equipment maintenance to poor communication from staff to customers. Since Anthony became manager of this gym there have been numerous improvements all around, ranging from more professional and cordial interactions from staff, to better cleanliness upkeep on the gym floor and locker rooms. I felt like family here. I would recommend this gym to anyone in South Philly looking for a facility with a large array of equipment and free weights, professional and friendly staff, and a clean environment.

Okay, now lets start off by saying that I love this franchise. The gym is usually up to date with equipment and its hardly any wait time. I've made a few cool associates and received some great advice. However, this particular location is very dated, they lack equipment for example; barbell cushion, no barbells rack, floors are not maintained well and the bathroom is not maintained. I've been to many LA fitness gyms and this location is the least maintained. I really hope they consider renovating this location. Seriously, have ya'll been to other locations? Tell me you don't notice the upgrades and the brighter feel.

I had a great experience until I took my children to the Fort Washington location, might I also add my children had been coming to this particular location with me for a while. Needless to say one particular day the front manager decided to approach me and my family in a rude condescending way telling me that my oldest boys would not be able to utilize the gym due to their ages. I proceeded to explain to the gentleman what policies was told to me and then I requested corporates number. I called and spoke with someone to confirm that in fact my children are allowed to use the gym so I gave the phone to the gentleman that was adamant that my children was not allowed. Well he got his answer but that was not good enough he then called four yes four additional people to confirm after he had already spoke to corporate. I felt embarrassed as well as harassed I will never go back to any LA fitness

I am another fallen victim to the dreadful treadmills. I have read a few reviews on here about terrible equipment and bad treadmills but didn't think I would trip on a treadmill and are now having knee pain. I heard this gym will get used old treadmills from another closed out gym. Kind of like getting a beater car from your uncle after your beater car died. Can't compare, one is free, this gym is not!!

Guy has some powers to make things happen, South Philly LA is a pretty solid gym has some potential to be better like... add a pool but as for your standard lift itβs pretty good. Treadmills are from the Clinton Administration! They have been here for over 25 years from the days of Bally Total Fitness.
Watch out!! I tripped on these treadmills several times and reported to the manager, she did nothing. A year later, NOTHING! 2 years later, NOTHING! I am cancelling my prepaid membership.
BE CAREFUL with the pulley machines near the free weights, it snap off while a guy was working out on it and he fell backward almost hit his head on the mirror.

Due to medical reasons, I'm mostly paying for this membership to use the sauna. The sauna is broken down more days than it actually works! I have repeatedly communicated to the front desk employees, including managers that the sauna is not working and instead of fixing it they just pretend they will handle it. So disappointing. I visited for a little over an hour. They have tons of equipment and lots of room to move around. I took a Zumba class which was fantastic with a great and nice instructor and the other attendees were nice as well. Also important was how very nice the staff is. They were super helpful. Thanks for a great visit!

My boyfriend and I are extremely dedicated gym goers and have been on the search for a new facility to call home. After reading the reviews the of this location we made the trip to check it out. This gym is clean and spacious with a lot of equipment. We were able to get a full workout in during prime time (between 4-5pm) without the rush of the "after work" crowd. Sales manager, Anthony Tran was extremely helpful throughout our visit here, he was accommodating and allowed us to workout first before we sitting down to talk about memberships. He was able to dial into our specific needs when it came to locations, accommodations, even helped with choosing a membership that would be best for us. I give this location a 5 start because of its facility and how were were handled as potential members.

This LA fitness doesnβt have everything that other locations offer, so I was skeptical of joining at first. However the gym has all the necessary equipment, location is convenient, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Anthony convinced me and my boyfriend that this was the perfect place for us. We worked out a great deal, and have been very happy with our choice for the past few months!

I've been coming here for years, and I've seen this place diminish in quality over the years. The gym is always dirty, the equipment is old and seems to break down every other week. The bathrooms always smell terrible and the fountains always dispense hot water. The temperature of the gym is always hot and muggy, we're here to workout and sweat why is it always so hot and uncomfortable. Not to mention they've had a huge section in the free weights section blocked off for months now
Update. It appears that they are inflating their reviews with a lot of fake 5 star reviews. A lot of the reviewers have only 1 review and 90% of them arent even local guides, most of the local guides say the same thing that ive mentioned. Do not sign up for this gym!

I have been a member of LA Fitness for many years. I take a number of classes and my all-time favorite instructor is Deidre Rich. The five stars above are for Deidre. She has so much energy and is such a positive motivator. Her instructions are very useful and you get the best work-outs in her classes. I highly recommend Deidre to anyone trying to get stronger, healthier and feel great about themselves. Thanks Deidre!
