I started training here in my freshman year of college with no experience and I was welcomed by a community of wonderful, hardworking, and kind individuals. In here, everyone is a student working towards one goal: disciplining their minds and bodies. There is no judgement, no conflicts, no animosity, only passion. I’ve grown so much from going here, and I do hope that you will join us in our journey of improvement.

Just to give some background, LVTKD is not the first martial arts school I have trained at. I have been training in Kempo for ~5 years now. At first, I was slightly nervous to switch to a new school, get new master, and start from square one, but these fears subsided from my first step in the front door.

The instructors at this school are the real deal. Every instructor knows the ins and outs of the style, how to build students’ strength, and together, have formed an exceptional traditional martial arts experience.

I am writing this review because I want to share my experience, but also why some people may not like it here at first.
-This school favors QUALITY over quantity.
-The training is tough.

Many people will enter this school, 3/4 of them will leave 2 weeks later and say “this isn’t for me”. However, those who care enough to push themselves is what the studio entirely consists of as a result. If they don’t care about training, they don’t stay to train here. If you want to train alongside people who will push you to the finish of every workout, and all striving for common goals, this is the place for you.

If becoming good at martial arts was so easy, everyone would do it.
If becoming healthy was so easy, everyone would do it.

The training is tough, yes, but with an open mind, I believe every person on this planet can surprise themselves with what they are truly capable of.

If you walk in the studio’s glass doors with open mindset, Master Lee Arnold will gladly train you with open arms, and be proud to call you his student.

————————————————————

Lee Arnold has ran this studio for 40 years as of 2024, and has trained dozens of Lehigh University students and adults across the Lehigh Valley during that time. If you believe the training doesn’t work, there are hundreds of students who can say otherwise.
I could not be prouder to call him my teacher.

My mom found this taekwondo class for my brother 25 years ago. She loved the fact that it was authentic teaching, and they did not teach weapons.

Years later, when I had my son, he started taking the kids class. After watching the kids class Master Lee also offered an adult power fitness class, which looked like a lot of fun. I took that class for a few years and was in the best shape of my life!!!

Once covid hit. the power fitness class was not running for a while. He did start offering the power fitness class again last August. I was very excited to get back to class. It is now been a year and a half of taking the class and I am down 14 pounds and my muscle tone is back!!! My son has also started doing the taekwondo class again.

We both travel a half an hour to come to this studio. Well worth the drive! My son did try another studio way closer to home, but missed the organization and the teachings of Master Lee. You can tell how passionate he is about the art of taekwondo. If you’re looking for an authentic experience, this is the place to be. Thank you again Master Lee!

Lehigh Valley Taekwondo provides a traditional Taekwondo training experience that is accessible to anyone with an open mind & willingness to put the hard work in to become a better version of themselves. Progress there is earned through sweat equity, and through effort comes results. Its traditional training style, coupled with, collectively, nearly a half century of martial arts experience within its ranks, one would be hard pressed to find anything remotely similar in today's pay-to-play martial arts business model.

Master Lee’s school is an exceptional martial arts institution in the Lehigh Valley, built on integrity, discipline, and respect. Master Lee, not “Mister Lee,” teaches every class unless unforeseen circumstances arise, and ensures qualified instructors are present in his absence.

The claim about the floors is baseless, as the facility is well-maintained and safe. My children have attended for over a year, and classes are never canceled—even when attendance is low. The school fosters a diverse community, partnering with Lehigh University and welcoming students from all backgrounds.

This isn’t a business-focused “piggy bank” but a true educational environment, shaping respectful, kind, and disciplined individuals. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic martial arts training and character development.

Went to LVTKD for 3 years during my college years and it was a tough but extremely fulfilling experience. I learned I was capable of a lot more than I thought I was at the time. Master Lee and the other instructors are old school and will push you to grow and are deeply invested in helping you achieve your goals. It will hurt, and you will be sore but you end up learning more than just physical training and mental discipline.

The school always felt like a family and I still consider it a privilege to have attended! Highly recommend it but you get out what you put in and you will be pushed to your limits so that you can exceed them.

I debated for two years whether or not I should start martial arts here, I was a nervous, broke college student at the time. Joining was one of the best things I did in college and I think back to my time at the school often, especially when I’m exercising and it feels difficult.
Everyone was really friendly, and, if someone wasn’t, the school was not afraid to address it. Master Lee didn’t operate to maintain the most students, simply to teach you martial arts and to push you as far as you could go. His methods are tough and probably not for all, but I loved every second I was there and dream about visiting often. All of the teachers had their own styles, and I enjoyed the variety.
If you start here, I recommend that you put your all into it. I am a kinda awkward, autistic girl, a little unsure of how to move at the time and not in shape at all, but I really put in my best effort, and that’s what they want from you and recognize in their students. My progress over time was celebrated and I looked forward to coming in. I don’t often feel connected to communities, but I did here. My (now) husband and I don’t know how we’ll ever find a place like it now that we aren’t in the area.

True martial arts school focusing on Olympic Tae Kwon Do, not a baby sitting club like the rest. This is a school for people who are looking for real training and become true martial artist. The training is not easy and that’s what I love. Master Lee is an amazing instructor sticking to the old ways of training so the students become strong and able to handle themselves in real life situations. I have been studying here for more than 20 years and it’s a school like no other. I am grateful to Master Lee for having such high standards. He has helped me so much to grow as an individual and as a Martial Artist.

Throughout my undergraduate and graduate years at Lehigh, I was very fortunate to discover and be able to practice at Lehigh Valley Tae Kwon-Do with Master Lee, all of the instructors, and friends.

Prior to practice martial art at LVTKD, I spent about 4 years during my middle school years in Vietnam learning Karate & Tae Kwon-Do under Vietnamese instructors. Our practice ground was an outdoor concrete yard at a district cultural & sport center. As young kids, we did 75-100 two-knuckle push ups on sandy concrete, sit-ups, 180 deg. split, abdominal strengthening exercises which inexperience on-looker might mistake those as "abusively abdominal punches" or "torturous body part pulling & crushing", etc.

The kids that went through those exercises months-after-months would have calluses on 2-4 of their knuckles and can do a perfect 180 deg. split. Therefore, regardless of nationality or race, physical & mental callus and scar might be a good indicator of a decent martial art practitioner, dancer, sport participant, etc.

Sparring was also an integral part of training and obviously we sparred without any protection. When one got kicked right in the solar plexus, one would find it fairly difficult to breath for a short period of time. If you were lucky, one of the senior practitioners or instructors would help you out by performing a couple abdominal stretches from the back (a much gentler version of the Heimlich maneuver). Usually, you would be allowed to sit out for 1 match then you can continue to spar. Maybe I was stronger as a middle schooler but I remember that I would continue to spar after a short break from being kicked right at the solar plexus . Therefore, if one's solar plexus was struck, everyone would know about it and it still should not take long to recover.

So why am I bragging about my "horrific" experience? I'm bragging in memory of my once strong self and what a blessing Lehigh Valley Tae Kwon Do has been. At the Dojang, I was allowed to be "lazy" and wore my green belt throughout my 6-year training; never once I was pressured to participate in advance exam. I believe Master Lee had adjusted training exercises to be much more tolerable although still challenging for my weak college-age body & mind at the time because my middle-school-age self went through rougher specialized conditioning for Taekwondo competition and competitive swimming team back in Vietnam. The fact is that the challenging but satisfied exercises and practices at LVTKD kept bringing me back to the Dojang.

Additionally, LVTKD provides us with a roof over our head with heat & ventilation, smooth & shiny wood floor, clean carpet & mats, lots of body protection equipment, an abundant of clean cloth towels to wipe off sweat, bright lights, large mirror, extremely affordable rate, walking distance from the Lehigh campus, not-for-profit and family environment, very strong, experienced and dedicated instructors, etc. What else can a martial art practitioner asks for if not tougher exercises!

All of the above experience and privileges enabled me to be a member of the small noncollegiate Lehigh University TKD team which participated in a few regional TKD competitions; during one of which we won 3rd place in sparring competition at Cornell University. Although our bodies hurt quite a bit afterwards, we all had a great time!

For the sake of traditional martial art practice and other true practices (dancing, learning, studying, engineering, etc.), please experience more, learn how to see, learn how to feel, learn how to earn the right to criticize an artist or a professional.

If you are interested in learning real martial arts and are looking to train seriously this is it.
Not like the buy a belt training of other schools. Understand it’s not for everyone, only for the people who really want it. Take it seriously if you want to learn correctly.
keep in mind It’s a process.

I've trained here on and off for 2 decades, always returning when I find myself home for an extended period of time. I started when I was young, and often credit my training here with Master Lee as one of the most influential pieces of my childhood.
He's taught me discipline, respect, and strength of body and will. These skills have lead me to a fruitful life, an appetite for challenge, and a humble confidence with which I know I can do anything.
Master Lee and his fellow instructors each have decades of experience teaching TKD. They are sensitive to ones abilities: patient with children and newcomers, and increasingly challenging to bring out the best in their students. The training can be tough--but that's what makes it great-- the teachers are kind and always thoughtful. You would be hard-pressed to find a better community.
I wish everybody could get to train here.

Lehigh Valley Taekwondo provides traditional martial arts training that not only strengthens the body but also the mind. Master Lee's training is based on simple tenets that focus on one's family, personal health & well being, education, ambition, work, patience, balance & aging, all important aspects that lead to a balanced body & mind. Students gain physical strength, self-discipline, confidence & agility as well as respect for others & a sense of humility and humbleness.
Within the walls of this school, you will find people of all ages and walks of life who are gladly accepted and treated equally as students, all egos left at the door. Children gain strength, confidence & self-discipline, all of which are very important for a successful journey throughout school and life. For adults, martial arts provides a sense of balance and tranquility, often missing in our ever hectic lifestyles. To be able to work hard & train within the walls of this school and gain all the knowledge that Master Lee and his team of black belt teachers have to offer is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The years of training, multi-disciplinary experience and knowledge present within his staff is staggering and must not be overlooked here. I've met and trained under some truly incredible teachers there and gained knowledge & experience that you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere within the Lehigh Valley. From my very first months there, I knew this place was different and consequently referred it to other parents looking for an outlet for themselves or their children as 'a diamond in the rough' and 'a once in a lifetime opportunity' and stand by that assertion more than a decade later. To say that Lvtkd has changed my life for the better is a gross understatement. In many respects, this school has saved my life, saved me from myself. I could not be more adamant in my opinion that this school is one of a kind, an opportunity for positive change not to be overlooked.

Physically and mentally challenging, great school if you are serious about the "Martial" term in martial arts. The way of defending with hands and feet.
