To all parents, beware when you send your child or children to the summer camp at the Northeast YMCA. This was my first year sending my daughter to the Northeast YMCA located at 11088 Knights Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154. On August 7, 2025 while my daughter was at summer camp, another camper was throwing rocks and he hit my daughter in her face and scrapped her eyeglasses frame. The worst part about the incident is that a staff witnessed the incident and allegedly wrote it up but staff did not inform me. Today I spoke with Darius Anderson who had no knowledge of the incident prior to me informing him about it today at dropoff. The executive director called me a few minutes ago acting like she was sincerely apologetic about the incident and said that the Northeast YMCA is not responsible for replacing my daughter eyeglasses frame. It's sad that the Northeast YMCA is not an organization that take responsibility when a child in their care property is damaged. I sent my daughter to summer camp to have fun and to make new friends and memories. I did not send my daughter to summer camp so rocks could be thrown at her face. This is the second incident that has occurred at the Northeast YMCA and again staff never informed me of the situation. Parents have a right for their children to be safe while at summer camp.

With a membership, you are offered services for which the member pays. It's a disservice when all the member benefits are not given.

Due to health issues swimming is imperative to my weightloss. In saying that, showering afterwards is also imperative. However, the hot water hasn't been working since last week.

I asked the man at the front desk about the water this morning, "notices were sent out about the hot water"... I didn't receive a notice! I didn't find a notice on the website. This is what should've been said with sincerity to ease the frustration of members " I apologize for the inconvenience, we are working on getting the problem fixed"!!! Be honest about the situation! I appreciate honesty! I have Lupus Dry eye syndrome, etc...Showering is very important!

The pool was very cold today! I have Raynauds, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Asthma & Chronic Spasms. I had trouble breathing while in the pool. I had chest pains. I thought it was spasms. I could do a little exercise, but i had to stop multiple times, which i dont usually fo. I became very sick & had to leave. I became very dizzy by time I got to the Women's locker room, I vomited twice. My breathing became worse when I got home. I used my inhaler & the chest pain went away. I could also breathe better. I was having an Asthma attack!!! I've never had an actual asthma attack before, never. My Lupus has been very active. The pool is my only comfort. The only place where I can exercise for a long while & it usually helps my nausea. However, not today!

Hello. Everything is more or less normal. But people visiting the sauna, a big request not to talk on the phone in the sauna. You can chat for hours, but what should I do, I can't listen to it for hours. Some of the chatters leave, the negotiators come. Have pity on my ears and other people. Very boiled, these people cannot understand what is disturbing others.

If you have young kids this is unfortunately not the place to go. The only playground this location has isn't open to the community during summer, and there is only one indoor play area for kids that is only for babysitting and has an easily reached capacity/limit.
Even more unfortunate is that they employ a very aggressive young man to be in charge of the children who are required to be there from 7am to 6pm Monday through Friday due to DHS and/or state involvement. He was LOUDLY yelling at a handful of children who were playing in a playhouse, telling them that if they didnt all get out of the playhouse immediately he will take everyone (maybe 40+ kids) to sit silently on the pavillion so no one could play for the rest of the day. This is the same young man who took some kids to the bathroom as we were signing up for membership and berated them for spilling water at the water fountain, telling them they wasted everyones time because they now have to go back and get paper towels. The kids deserve better than what that person is giving them while unsupervised by people in charge, and the local families deserve to have access to safe playgrounds for their children- especially if they are paying for their membership. We thankfully were using our health insurance or we'd have to deal with a refund process because the front staff while very kind and patient, did not inform us of the fact that the kids play areas are fully restricted. After being angrily approached by the man who took a break from yelling at other peoples children to tell mine they had to get out (after a different employee had just opened the gate for them and my husband and said it was fine for them to come in), I asked to speak to a manager to tell them about how the kids outside were being treated by staff and find out why families couldn't play outside. I was told that is a forced policy because of DHS involvement, that M-F 7am to 6pm no children that arent enrolled in a specific DHS program could use the playground facilities.
Families signing up young kids should be informed AT SIGN UP that their children cannot play at that location so they don't waste their time and upset their kids, and the DHS program needs to be better monitored so those kids are treated with respect by the staff. This is a very different kind of YMCA than the ones I grew up with, it doesn't seem supportive of community families at all.
I'm submitting a formal written complaint but I'm taking the time to review so that other low income/struggling families don't waste their resources to come here if they would also find a membership useless without access to either indoor or outdoor play areas for their kids.

Hi, I wanna redo my suggestion about this place, I would like to tell you all of my experience in this place, 1. I would like to talk about the people and or the staff. The staff in the front door is very nice welcoming others, the staff in the gym, pool, and others are nice too, BUT sometimes the people are bad, I don't like when people around me say bad words and I hear how they talk and sometimes how they act. But the stuff is 8/10 2. The gym 🙌, the gym is beautiful, I wasn't here last year, but I know how the people work hard to make others feel good in this place, it has changed in a lot more better way. The gym is 9/10 because sometimes May have some issues. 3. The pool🏄, the pool is 10/10 it's perfect. 4. And I want to compare all, this place is very kind, the people who built this place who recently upgraded this place, who really want to make it a good place for family, I really appreciate you for what you're doing for all of us. Dont come at 11am Beatriz instructor for the zumba class blast spanish music through the entire building it annoying. Tried to shut the door she came out with attitude and proped it with the bench.

And over all the Y staff dont care about there clients, you can tell them various things they just say they will let someone know and they dont.

I had a terrible experience. The first time I went I wasn't even able to workout because there's a lady who has a terrible attitude. She is a black woman with dreadlocks and she comes during the evening. She told me I couldn't workout because I didn't have the proper shoes on. I didn't think much of it because she's just doing her job, but I went back today and she was being so rude. I accidentally fell off the treadmill. She walked up to me with a terrible attitude. I told her it was a mistake but she wouldn't listen. She then proceeded to say "This is your last warning." as if she had gave me multiple warnings beforehand. She didn't. After that she kept telling us to clean off the equipment after using it but she wasn't telling anyone else to. She was also following my friend around the gym and he felt very uncomfortable and unsafe. Please fire her, she made me upset and i almost cried. I feel unsafe around her because she's ruining my experience when I just wanted to workout.

I came just for the pool because I’m having back problems. I stated to go to YMCA few months ago everything was going smoothly until last 5-6 weeks. Why ?

1. After switching and after very good shower you have very strong bad small of the bleach ( or other chemicals)and swimming pool at the bottom has a lot of brown sediment ,I think they should change water more often. I can trow my swimsuit and towel away - because it’s impossible to wash out chemicals smell from the pool (((
2. If you came in the morning and decided to have a nice lap swim? - you will not be able to have it because just two lines are open - rest of them occupied my aqua aerobics. If you decided to come around 12 - you will not be lucky again - because there will be kids from the summer camp until 3 pm . Let’s try maybe afternoon or evening? Oh no luck again - a lot of people are there who are coming after work.

We only use the swim classes for my kids but I’m totally blown away by the swim program. We have the same instructor every week for class and they know my kids by name. The instructors are the nicest people with a tremendous amount of patience and enthusiasm to meet each kid where they are as a swimmer. The cost is so reasonable for what you get from this program that is second to none.

I love it here. I started the Zumba classes with Juanita and i was so glad it was her because she made me want to keep going!!!! I had so much fun and burned a lot of calories doing it!!!!
