For most casual golfers, this place is expensive. However, the staff makes it their business to ensure that your experience is worth every penny of the price. We played with a foursome consisting of three first-time visitors (myself being a first-timer), and I cannot compare how welcomed they made us feel. From check-in, to starters, rangers, food and drink service, everyone was friendly and treated us like they've been waiting all season just for us to show up.
Given how some higher priced (and even some basic public) golf courses equate snobbery with "quality", Olde Stonewall is the exact opposite. They intentionally space tee times 15min apart so no one waits or feels rushed. Our starter (Rich, I'll mention his name because he was great) encouraged us to enjoy the space to the point of telling us about where to find the best views throughout the round. We were also told to enjoy the grounds and practice areas at our leisure, which include driving range, putting greens, and short game areas. All were in great shape.
The course itself is challenging, but conditions were immaculate. Soft fairways, difficult Natural Areas, pristine bunkers, greens that rolled true... As a weekend public course duffer, I was not used to playing from such well kept surfaces. The front 9 is a tricky zig-zag through the low areas with some water to avoid, and the back 9 was a hilly adventure with impressive views and a pay-off at the 16th (Par 4) tee box.
We retired to Shakespeare's Restaurant on-site afterwards. The food did not disappoint, and prices were appropriate given the level of quality. Each member of our party was either excited to share their plate, or too focused on their enjoyment to offer. The chef even visited our table to make sure we were satisfied, and we were very eager to tell him that indeed, we were.
Whether it's once a year, or a special occasion, or you personally have the scratch on-hand to visit and play regularly, Olde Stonewall's staff and location ensure that you'll have the best possible time, no matter how you're playing. Nothing can ruin this day.

WAY overpriced for this course in this condition. At one time, it was a really nice course but now, it's a mess. Worth at best $50 including cart, range balls, a hot dog and a 6 pack. They are delusional and the people that pay those prices are out of their minds. So many better courses for less than half. Not to mention better pace of play!

$150? This course is not worth $50. Burned out fairways and greens. Divots everywhere. Greens are bumpy and not fair. Iβve played 100 better courses for under $100

Magnificent golf course and great food. We were there the Friday of the U.S. Open and I could tell you that I felt like every PGA tour player playing the course. Greens were tough, the fairways were welcoming, and the views were even better. Stop by anytime youβre in the Pittsburgh area for a great round.

Absolutely beautiful course! Very difficult, even from the whites. Small, undulating greens that were rolling fast! 13.5 according to the starter. Great views on the back with lots of fun downhill tee shots. Will definitely try to get back sometime.

After a friend recommended this course, we played here on Monday after the US Open at Oakmont. Paid $175 for the round. Love that range is included as well as tees in the cart. My only complaint was the price point. For what I paid I was expecting lush conditions. I'm assuming it was due to the record rainfall but, I felt that the course conditions were just, OK. May play again if I'm in the area, but will likely not make a special trip to play.

First time playing here - 4 of us. 10/6/2024. Wow, is truly the first word playing here. Everything was beyond awesome. Staff was great, free range balls that also have a nice chipping spot to practice hitting out of that fescue. The front 9 kind of lures you in a bit, and the back just explodes with the views and layout. I cannot wait to play here again. We had a blast playing this course. Came from Youngstown, OH area. Make sure you hit that putting green for some practice tooβ¦.these were the most difficult greens I have ever placed a putter on. Epic epic course a full 10/10

Booked at 2:30 twilight rate round with a buddy of mine, on the 16th hole after playing with nobody behind us until the 14th hole, while I was hitting my approach shot the group behind us had a child who was not even golfing shout out βHURRRYYY UPPPPβ As loud as they could in my backswing. Mind you I was playing with a very prominent and friendly member of the club. He was 76 years old. We were on pace for a four hour and 15 minute round at this point. Totally uncalled for behavior by members behind us, and when asked about it at the clubhouse after a debacle ensued where the one member(father of the child) Started berating the very friendly elderly member that we were golfing with. Totally uncalled for behavior and embarrassing to say that the members of this club do that. I would not recommend memberships here based upon the entitled behavior of pretty much most of the members there. There were members helping themselves to food behind the counter at the turn cutting us in line. Much better atmospheres at the many country clubs in Western Pennsylvania.

Wow...just wow. Top 50 golf digests public courses in the US. Well deserved!!! If you're not a scratch golfer be prepared for the back 9 to wreck you. But have No fear Sean is near. He can definitely dial in your swing before you venture out. These greens are definitely PGA tour fast and very tricky. The customer service is Michelin star π and the food is amazing. Worth every dime! If you are a golf enthusiast this is a must book tee time! Rain sun sleet or whatever. I promise you won't be disappointed π―

You have to want to get there, it's a hike from about anywhere. Is it worth it? Yes, for the most part. The place is beautiful, with a nice staff, pro shop, and driving range. The layout is exceptional with quite a few scenic memorable holes with different elevations.
We played on a Monday morning, so the pace of play was not too bad. However, some of the beauty of the course can also be its biggest detractor. There is very little rough on either side of the fairways, then quickly gets into knee high grasses of various descriptions. This includes around the greens, which can be extremely frustrating. This has to contribute to the slow play others have mentioned. The balls are hard to find and if you do, let's just say it's a shot not often practiced. Gouge and hope.
Higher handicapped players will find this course extremely difficult, regardless of which tees are played.
The greens were very nice in appearance, but varied from average speed to slow with little consistency. There were lots of subtle breaks.
Overall it's a very worthwhile destination, but going in with a lower expectation of shooting a great score and being patient will enhance the experience.

Beautiful course, difficult greens, friendly staff! Never saw a beverage cart, no restrooms on back 9 (if there is, never saw it), no drinking water on the course and extremely slow play with no ranger around. 5+ hours for golf is ridiculous, no etiquette here, the group in front of us recommended we skip holes to play through, never happen considering we paid a great deal of $ to play, will not return.

I can say the course is very nice. The starters not so much. Went out of our way to come to this $150 plus course after our RTJ/Cog Hill trip. Upon arrival. Bag drop with my gallon of water. As I always brought to numerous courses with zero issues. Tpc sawgrass Jacksonville and a number of other high end courses. Not to mention itβs been downright hot with heat indexes in the 100s. First thing you say to me is laugh and say you canβt bring that on here? Donβt let the pro see you. I said what? He says my water. Iβm paying $175, going out of my way. If I canβt bring my water Iβm leaving. Definitely not giving you my money. Busting me about water. We also didnβt see the cart girl until the 17th hole. But donβt bring that water, please dehydrate yourself. Ridiculous in so many ways. Add the actual starter, having a hissy, to explain a couple things about the course since it was our first time.

Great golf course. Didnβt care that ranger told us a few times to pick up the pace. We finished in less than 5 hours on a hard course. None of our group were pros though did play ready golf. Nobody was really pushing us snd if they were, weβd have let them play through. For the amount of money we spent , ($700.00 for the foursome) I didnβt appreciate getting harassed by the ranger. All in all, great course and atmosphere. Have to stay in fairway or you are in trouble with either high grass or sand or water.

Nothing short of perfection. Olde Stonewall has been a favorite of ours for years as we travel from 2 hours north to play multiple times a year. It NEVER disappoints. Its a true test of golf but is also very fair and not gimmicky. Its condition has always been excellent, and Sean and his staff make you feel as if you are a valued member there. The practice facility is tremendous, and the pace of play is ALWAYS on point. I can't say this for every course I play but Olde Stonewall has never let me down in the years I have traveled to play there. Hats off to Sean and his staff and they are certainly the reason we keep making the trip. Will be back later in the year for sure.

Olde Stonewall is an incredible world class golf course. It has everything: great layout, no two holes are alike, superb views, no parallel fairways, excellent conditioning, real sandtraps, water, fescue, and quick undulating greens. Am amazed at the speed of play obviously enhanced by the generous spacing of tee times. I hit every club in my bag. In addition the amenities are also world class, fully stocked pro shop, two pros for lessons, very friendly staff, new carts with GPS and USB ports, and a patio to eat outside. Have never had a better overall golfing experience anywhere.

Olde Stonewall is a great layout! This is a links style course that covers 300-plus acres, with no houses along any of the fairways. With five sets of tees, this course is both playable and challenging to golfers of all skill levels. What sets Olde Stonewall head-and-shoulders above other courses in the region are the people. Everyone makes you feel welcome, whether you are a long-time member or a first-time visitor. This is a very well-maintained track, with tee boxes, bunkers, and greens in excellent condition, regardless of the weather challenges that pop up in western Pennsylvania. Everyone at the course goes above and beyond to make sure that your golf experience is outstanding.

Your opinion will depend entirely on the type of course you find enjoyable.
The course is exceptionally challenging. Donβt take my word for it, here are the slope ratings:
βEpicβ (Grey Tees): 149
βMedievalβ (Black): 146
βStonewallβ (White): 143
βFeudalβ (Gold): 142
βRusticβ (Red): 137
To put things in perspective, hereβs oakmonts:
Championship (Black): 141
Green: 139
Blue: 135
White: 130
Red: 126
Draw whatever conclusions you want.
Not telling you anything you havenβt heard: tons of elevation changes, dog legs, blind shots, not a ton of bail outs, etc.
Conditions were good and maintenance was high quality. Greens held, were fairly consistent, but had recently aerated (also, it was really wet, which likely helped the lower stimp a lot)
How should they improve (for what its worth):
- GPS that offers a how to play that specific hole type interface (yes this is a real thing and not unheard of). IF the course is going to be purposeful this over the top challenging than that sort of guidance (ie digital caddy like) would make the round massively more enjoyable
- The on course directions to tee boxes absolutely needs improvement. Just listen throughout your round to the number of screeching wheels you hear from folks making wrong turns etc
- Bc of the elevated tee boxes and long distances between holes and poor directions and (IMO over the top challenge of the course) the pace of play will be slow. Expect that going into it.
Itβs unique and itβs challenging. Awesome views. Great range. Well kept and maintained. The clubhouse is unreal.
Really depends what makes for a good round for you and your group.

I have been a member of various country clubs in Pittsburgh for over 30 years and a member of Olde Stonewall for the last 2.5 years.
When I played the course for the first time in 2018 and stood on 13th tee, the view from the tee was so spectacular that it took away my breath. I said to myself β this is the golf course I will enjoy playing every time I step on itβ.
The course is very challenging but fair. Every hole is different. If you hit a drive to the fairway, you will be hitting the second shot from a flat area to a green that you can see, which is very rare in the Pittsburgh area. The club is spectacular not only because of the golf course but also because of the head pro Sean Swidzinski and his stuff. They make you feel welcomed and special.

Olde Stonewall is both a beautiful and challenging course. The greens and grounds are immaculate. There were some tight pin placements along the way but they were also balanced throughout the round. The front 9 provides you with a more open and forgiving layout. When you begin the back nine prepare yourself for a dramatic and enjoyable change, providing expansive vistas and perhaps a change in strategy depending on how far you can carry the ball. All in all the experience and atmosphere that Olde Stonewall provides is second to none north of Pittsburgh.

Imagine a course that presents different challenges in each round, where the fairways, bunkers, and greens are both excellent and consistent, and where you will feel welcome during every visit. If you are looking to play one of the top rated courses in Western PA, plan to book a tee time at Olde Stonewall. You will have your camera out on just about every hole! The course is always in pristine condition and staff is incredible. Olde Stonewall is a course you will remember as one of the best you have ever played. Highly recommend.

Great golf course. The course is the best public course I've played in PA. it is well maintained, and the staff is friendly. The views on the back 9 are amazing. It's a difficult course, but not overly harsh.

Aislynn is a wonderful instructor. My daughter takes golf lessons from her. If you or your child has an interest in golf I highly recommend call to get lessons from her.

Was able to play it at a deep discounted rate today, very nice course. Front nine wasn't anything special but the back nine is incredible!!
With that said I don't see me ever paying the $160 during the season or even the full $90 during the off season.
Nice track, but there are other courses within our area that are comparable that are half the cost.

This place is completely mismanaged. Restaurant not open all year but opens October 8. Playing today and with 2 holes to go have been +4.5 hours. They canβt even keep the beverage cart running for the whole round. Whoever is managing this place should be replaced.

A stunningly beautiful golf course and a fortress of a castle club house that the Knights Templar would be proud of.
Meals, both casual and fine dining, were great and fairly priced. Serving staff friendly & efficient.
If you're a golfer, you'll live the course's beauty and challenge and huge practice range. I can't say enough about the club pro SeanΒ Swidzinski & his team.
I'll be back.
You won't be disappointed.

At this price i would expect that a ranger on the course would manage the pace of play. We sat behind a four some who had taken range balls and were practicing several shots off every tee box. By the 18th fairway, they weren't even trying to hide it, and the fairway was littered with 5 range balls. Won't go back.

Despite getting 6 inches of rain last night, course was in great shape. It was only soggy in a few places and few bunkers flooded. Had a great time

This was an was a round of golf for our first anniversary and it was the worst golf experience my husband and I have ever had. It took us as two golfers nearly 5 hours to play 18 holes of golf. This was due to over booking on the clubβs behalf... resulting in us sitting around nearly 10 minutes or more between each hole. This started at the 2nd hole. We will never golf here again.

Course was in great shape, especially due to recent heat and lack of rain. Challenging layout adds to the fun of playing a round here. Back 9 has great views of the course and area. Very unique clubhouse. Staff is very friendly.

The "Wall" is the total package. Challenging course that is always in great shape (Thanks GCS!), halfway house has everything you would want, the 19th hole with Happy Hour prices can't be beat, lunch/dinner is just around the corner, and the Pro Shop completes the total package.
