I've been going here for a year and I seriously love it. The community is super welcoming, and the coaches really know their stuff and genuinely care about the members, even outside of class. There's a ton of variety in the programming, plus classes for weightlifting, mobility, and even nutrition- so there's always something to work on. It's way more than just a gym. Highly recommend!

Dropped in while visiting Pittsburgh for work. I was looking for a tough workout, and I definitely found it here. Great and friendly group. Programming was legit, strength first half and a metcon the second half, just the way I like it. They also had an advanced and a more scaled version of the metcon, which was great.

Definitely a great spot to drop in or join. If I am ever in the area again, I will be dropping in.

Love this gym - the coaches, atmosphere, and programming are great for all levels of fitness enthusiasts. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable, and genuinely is invested in your development as an athlete. The gym is welcoming, I love that there is 24/7 access, and there is always someone around to join in for a WOD even in off hours.
Come check it out!

A great 24-CrossFit gym, which is great for this Olympic lifter. Plus a clean bathroom and shower, plus a little kitchen area with a fridge! The equipment is in good shape, and it's never felt overcrowded!

Having just moved to Pitt this summer this place has been a great gym to call home. The programming is high quality and effective. The space/24-7 access allow members with unpredictable schedules to still get their workouts in. After day two, the coaches remembered my name and made me feel welcome. Doesn’t get better than that!

I keep to myself due to a lot of personal problems caused by clinical depression and anxiety. My five years in Pittsburgh has been often unhappy and dark. However, for the past two years, this gym has been one of my few safe havens. Erin and Ashley are special because they radiate positivity without being overbearing. They push themselves to be great every day and inspire me to do the same. In two years I have mentally and physically stronger than I thought possible. While many factors helped me overcome my depression, this gym, and the amazing people it attracts, was one of the primary catalysts for my recovery.

I think a modified version of Michael's recommendation for Dwight from The Office is fitting here: "The dictionary defines superlative as: of the highest kind, quality, or order, surpassing all else, or others. Supreme. I define it as Erin and Ashley. As trainers, as leaders, and as friends, they are of the highest kind, quality, and order. Supreme."

Renegade is the best! I've dropped in at four other boxes and this is definitely my favorite. Great space, lots of equipment, and friendly atmosphere. The coaches are wonderful, and will help you work towards achieving your workout goals. I couldn't do pull-ups, pistols, or rope climbs before training here, and have made progress with a number of other goals as well. There's also a great and supportive sense of community among gym members.Β If you're into oly and around on Tues/Thurs/Sun, make sure to check out the Barbell Club!

I worked out here for a few weeks while visiting Pittsburgh. The staff and members were super welcoming, which was really nice not knowing anyone. I liked the quality instruction I got and thought the WODs were programmed well: real tough, but easily scaled. The facility is surprisingly big, with all the equipment you'd expect, plus they keep it clean, which is nice. Finally, the owners were willing to work with me (I wanted to train, but was only in town for a little while) which I think is a good sign for others looking to join. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely train here full time!

I first walked into CrossFit Shadyside in its infancy when it was just one room with a few kettlebells and limited equipment. Unfortunately, I wasn't ready to start back to the mental and physical regimen, however, I kept in contact with Mike Guffy who was always positive and a great motivator. I recently started back and am nothing if not awed by the improvements that have gone into CrossFit Shadyside. Not only have they expanded in square footage, but they continue to get new equipment and invest in their members growth. They have equipment that I have not seen in any other box such as a wall, logs and several huge truck tires. The workout area is clean, bright and well kept.

Mike Guffy is an excellent coach, motivator, mentor and competitor. In fact, my first contact with Mike was when he competed last year in a CrossFit competition in Washington DC. You can always hear Mike shouting positive encouragement throughout the room during a WOD and comes around offering individual motivation and positive form correction. Mike often asks for input as to how to improve the box as well as opinions about changes that he is implementing.

The atmosphere among the members is exciting, youthful and vibrant. I have never seen ego or attitude and always get a smile or positive word during a grueling moment.

Following any CrossFit program will get you where you need to be.
CrossFit Shadyside makes getting there suck less.

The coaching I've received at Crossfit Shadyside has been far superior to that of any other gym I've ever attended, including another crossfit establishment in Pittsburgh. The people are awesome, and while I've reached and continue to reach my fitness goals, I've also met some great friends. All the coaches are fantastic, but Mike Guffy really is the heart of the place. He's a fantastic trainer, never lets you sacrifice form for weight, and encourages and works with athletes of any fitness level. It's an incredibly positive environment, and I'll never workout anywhere else in the 'burgh!

I spent a few months walking by this Box wishing I could get the time to train. Once I did, I was very happy with the facility and the coaching. As I've become more familiar with the people it has become my home away from home. Every day I train I get an hour with good people and am seeing amazing results. The prices are very reasonable for Crossfit in Pittsburgh and the Coaches are really good at helping you fulfill your individual goals.
