Horrible experience.
My entire family has been with the YMCA for years, and I’ve visited many larger locations without ever having an issue bringing a guest or using the studios/group exercise rooms. Two days ago, I specifically asked the front desk if I could work out in the studio, and I was told it was fine as long as no classes were happening.

Today, I called again just to double check, and a different staff member suddenly tells me, “We don’t allow guests to use it unless there’s a class going on.” The complete opposite of what I was just told.

For a location that isn’t big, doesn’t have every piece of equipment, and relies on convenience, making up inconsistent rules is honestly unacceptable. I only chose this branch because it was nearby, but after this experience, I won’t be returning.

I joined the YMCA 6 weeks ago and I love it! The exercise instructors are great and I especially love the Zumba classes. The Zumba instructors have so much energy and create a fun class! If you’re looking for a great place to exercise then join the YMCA!

I’ve loved this place for so many years but lately I’ve been very disappointed. Their elevator has not been working, disproportionately impacting the senior community at the Spring Valley YMCA. Numerous people have been unable to access the senior classes for months now, even after repeated attempts to address it with staff

This has led to safety concerns as people have struggled upstairs to maintain their class attendance and social lives while being negatively impacted and risking their physical health on the stairs. They need access to the elevator as anyone with a physical disability.

After raising prices to attend the outdoor pool pricing, many people out of summer fun, I think the very least that the Ymca could do is maintain its elevator, such that people can attend the classes that they pay for. This is a huge safety concern!!! I don’t want to see elderly people falling down the stairs!

We enrolled our 4 year old in camp there for a week and he came home happy everyday. We didn’t know what he was up to besides what he reported. It seemed like he was well cared for and ultimately had lots of fun. One rainy day they watched frozen, most days there was gymnastics, everyday he brought home an art/craft. Two days of pool, one day was canceled due to the rain.

We were told there would be photos daily but none were posted but despite that I’d definitely enrol him again if it worked for our schedule.

Summer camp registration warning to parents! Ensure that your home location is set correctly if you are registering online. You will not be informed of the location your child is attending and we did not receive any communication on what to bring to camp or further details. We were told this was because of an “IT issue”, yet no accountability was taken. I spoke with several staff members both on the phone and in person before our daughters camp start date and continued to receive “missing paperwork” emails though the front desk said we were set and good to go. When we brought our daughter in on the first day of camp, she was turned away due to incorrect location (originally I had signed up at the time of the system transfer when every member was required to create a new account/download new app, I believe this was the problem). We were offered no help or resolution in this matter and were given the runaround on the phone and via email for days on end. No refund, camp transfer, and no accountability from the staff though we were told we would get a transfer or at least a partial refund. I hope this review saves someone else’s child from the disappointment our child felt when she was turned away at the doors of the Spring Valley Y 😥

*Update Spring Mountain Schwenksville found a spot for our daughter at their summer camp. Wonderful experience from start to finish-affordable camp with organized, helpful, and responsive staff! Will be going there instead of the Y for future camps.

Inflexible and lack any kind of client focus. Insensitive to family dynamics my daughter in law made a mistake signing my 4 year grand daughter for camp at the wrong location. Multiple times, she spoke to the desk before the start date and no one told her she signed up for Voorhees, New Jersey by accident. . Very little help in fixing the situation by the staff and director. App did not work. No refund!

I'd say be careful signing up for camp memberships. I verified the price of camp for my daughter before signing her up by calling and was told one price. Then I noticed additional money was removed from my account and I was told I was only paying a deposit initially. The funny thing is I was even sent a receipt verifying the total cost of camp every month and exactly what they claim I paid for a deposit. But no one at this company could explain the discrepancy. Also they refused to refund my money based on their error. Management contacted me and left a message and suggested I call to discuss. You know they conveniently ignored my follow up email and phone call because of course they had no true intentions of discussing the situation and wanted to sweep their mistake under the rug. But it's ok because I filed a dispute with my bank for my refund. Do not sign your children up for this overpriced camp. There is no transparency with pricing.

I've been trying to contact this branch to speak to a human representative for a couple weeks now to manage my account The automated system is not efficient and concise with clear comms. Only time my wife and I could reach a representative was when we hit the prompt for "new membership" (profits)... My membership is great in the fall and winter with the indoor pool included, but I'm surprised that even as a paying member they do not have a day-pass plans setup for the outdoor pool use. I think an additional $100/month (3 months) is a bit excessive where-as I may take my son once or twice a month. Instead I'd rather pause my membership for the summer months, as a result the YMCA loses $300 instead... I really hope they look into daily membership fees for the outdoor pool area, as I feel like I'm not the only one that has this concern.

I hope they get a direct phone line in contact with the front desk as it has been very difficult to contact a human at this location..

I’m tired of the inconsistent check in process. We are not members. It doesn’t make financial sense to be members. We pay for swimming lessons. We are hall passed. Yet we often get hassled when trying to check in for the lessons. Not every week. Just when certain people are working. There needs to be a better system or a more consistent way to handle non-members. Especially if we are here every single week.

5 Stars – A Wonderful Community Resource!

YMCA Royersford has been an incredible place for both personal growth and community engagement. The facility is always clean, well-maintained, and welcoming. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and truly care about the members. From the variety of fitness classes and modern gym equipment to the pool and family programs, there’s something here for everyone.
What stands out most is the sense of community—it’s a place where people of all ages and backgrounds feel included and supported. Whether you're looking to improve your health, meet new people, or find programs for your kids, this YMCA goes above and beyond. Highly recommend for anyone in the area!

This YMCA is clean and well maintained. I enjoy coming here and so do my kids. The ladies in childcare make me feel comfortable to be able to drop my kids off knowing they’re safe while I get in a workout. I will change to 5stars once they create a nursing room. I’m not entirely comfortable nursing in public and this would make my time there so much more enjoyable to feed my baby.

I signed up the family membership and paid over $100 monthly just for the pool. First , the pool water is freezing. Second, there are so many pool rules all over the place. right after my kid took swimming lessons, I want to use swimming tools to help my kids practicing swimming. They always say "NO". Third, parent are not allowed to watch kids to swim from the deck. Parent have to be in the water with kids at all times. Some of these rules I didn't find from other YMCA. I think this Y needs to have a flexible approach for parents teaching and supervising their kids.

Awesomeness in one place. This ymca has everything you need for body building and family fun, the pool is clean, sauna and hot tub, workers are friendly ( they try).
Child watch is the best! These girls are so caring and I feel so confident and comfortable with them.

The machines at the gym are clean and working, usually after 4 pm it gets busy but we get the work done.

Classes are fun ( my favorite are combat and spin) however they have a wide variety for your comfort level.

Definitely my home gym!

I signed up for the facility not realizing the outdoor pool is now extra. $75 a month is pretty steep on its own and then to charge extra for the pool seems kind of ridiculous. I decided to just use the gym. I wanted to like it but there’s only one machine of each and I spent half my workout waiting to get on equipment. Not worth it for $75 a month to have to spend this much time trying to get through a workout. Ended up canceling.

I do not tolerate BULLIES. Attended a water class and a Group ( bullies always feel strong in a group) talked loudly the entire time, the woman that was giving instructions asked several times to please STOP talking loudly. They continued, I could not hear the woman in charge of the class so I Said" I cannot.hear you. The Bullies said to me " maybe you need a HEARING Aid. I said I can only hear your LOUD talking. They continued thru the class I left early. The next time I attended class SAME GROUP talked the entire time. I did not PAY to hear BULLIES .
I did report it. Deb left a msg on my cell that she reported it and that a director was going to the class. When I attended the class the only person looking at the talkers was a lifeguard.. I returned Debs call but she never called back. Too many TEAM Leaders. I discontinued my membership.

Really not great if you have kids with disabilities. My autistic son loves to
Swim but the family locker rooms and pool are beyond disgusting. The availability for family swim is limited, we recently had the older man lifeguard yell at my son for stimming. WOW, just WOW. Even if my kids were neurotypical I would never leave them in the kids zone, I’ve seen the caretakers be really mean and rough with the kids when taking them on bathroom trips. Most members are seniors who seem to have no understanding that kids are people too.

I love this place! They have a ton of space in the workout area, a great pool, a kids place, so many rooms for different work out classes, a gym, they even have an outside water slide and play area! They have a kid zone, where parents can drop kids off and work out for up to 2 hours, it's clean, the people that with there are nice! There's always a bunch of people there but there's a bunch of space so it's not a problem! They even have a track inside, and you can walk with a stroller, which is great, as I just had a baby, and you can't have baby's under 3 months in the kids zone!

Super nice facilities, including the pools and indoor track. Helpful staff. Sometimes it's more crowded than what's ideal but it's ok.

My main beef is with some of the members. They could try being a little more
considerate/aware of others on the track: e.g., not walking two abreast or speeding up and stopping suddenly.

This review is for the pool and locker room specifically: I went there for the first time yesterday and not sure I want to go back. Which is unfortunate since the pool is the main reason I have a membership. The pool water had a lot of, I don’t know what (Looked like tissue paper) floating around in it. The tile is dirty. The pool deck was dirty. I got grossed out and left early. But the locker room was the worst. The showers smelled absolutely horrible. The smell of urine was the first to hit me. Needless to say I did not use them, even to briefly rinse off. The floors were filthy, even for a woman’s locker room, which don’t always look “clean”. I have been in many pools and was a lifeguard for many years. This one is definitely is one of the more nastier pools I’ve seen. I’ll give it another try, hopefully it was just a bad day.

I am writing this review to complain about needing a separate membership to access the pool area. I went to the Y one day to play on the playground with my sons (3 and 6). I was informed by the people on the playground that I had to walk around to gain access tp the playground because the outside access was locked. The other way to access the playground is to walk through the pool area. I went to do this with my boys. I was stopped by two female workers that informed me that we could not use the playground during pool hours because I did not have a pool membership. I explained to them that my boys just wanted to play on the playground. One worker rudely responded that she couldn't let us in because we MAY just go into the pool instead of playing on the playground. I found her to be extremely rude and not empathetic. My 3 year old was crying that he wanted to play on the playground. We were dressed in street clothes and I was not carrying any bags whatsoever. I think it is completely unfair to limit access to the playground because we do not have a pool membership. I also think that requiring a separate membership for the pool is absurd.

After being a member for years, the y required a separate pool membership for the summer. We paid it and tried to enjoy the pool yesterday. Every life guard had different rules my kids were to follow and were not enforcing them on other kids. It's one thing to require additional membership but to require different rules with no consistency when they are enforced is so frustrating. Their training really needs to be co sistent. It makes me concerned for the safety of my children. If the rules aren't even consistent how can we be sure that their life saving training is consistent.

In terms of services supplied by this location and it's satellites? I recommend them. If one is inquiring as to the conditions and staff on the limits of their employees with the YMCA before/after school day care? Well they certainly take care of their charges (the children) well but as for staff-to-staff considerations if one is Autistic? I would not recommend working for this location. But again, the services and especially the outdoor aquatic area were top notch.

It's very disappointing they have kids watch tv in the child watch. One of the reasons I joined was for my kids and me to be more active. They have a lot of workers, so why can't they turn off the screens? I have gone to other YMCAs in Philadelphia that don't use any devices. They also allow kids to bring ipads. Child watch also closes at 7:45 pm, which is when the fitness classes are also over. You'll need to leave your class early.

I feel like they want to push out certain people spring valley I’m disappointed and get it together

Very disappointed. My credit card was comprised, had to canceled it and get a new one. The Y tried to collect auto payment it was denied on the 17 because of the canceled card. I got the new card and the Y double charged me on the 19th plus charged 2 $30 late fees. Called to explained and was basically told too bad it’s an external site. I didn’t receive a text or call to let me know the first one didn’t go through. Way to rip off your customers

Spring Valley YMCA has really gone down hill. I previously gave 5 atars..2022...I'm now giving 1 star. Very sad to see. I've talked to so many people who feel the same.

Facilities are great and staff is nice.

However , there is nothing more frustrating than the sauna hours. I understand it’s summer and there’s outdoor lifeguards needed etc , but the big reason I joined is for the sauna use. It should be open more than a few hours a day (not even consistent). It’s closed 80% of the time I go.

Front desk was very rude and condescending. I drove there to cancel my membership since they don't give you an option to cancel it online through their website. You can join online, but you have to go in person when you cancel membership.
I spent more than 15 minutes at the front desk so she could cancel my membership. She acted like i was the first person to cancel membership. I am sure you have hundreds of cancellations every year, there is absolutely no reason to give people such a hard time. Why not have the option to cancel online?

If you have kids, find another Y. Adult swim time every hour is not kid friendly. Look at the pic. They don’t even limit it to the adult pool. The kick the kids out of the kids pool! What a joke. Can’t wait to cancel my membership.

They have absolutely NO open swim hours for families for the indoor pool. Like NONE. So you can't swim year round, and you will end up paying for expensive swim lessons. Kids need more practice than 30 minutes a week. The YMCA is supposed to be a none-profit, but they care about is $$$$.

This is such a beautiful facility is a shame the staff are so incredibly uncoordinated and blatantly disrespectful and incompetent. My daughter and I have been several times since signing up a few months ago but this was our first day attempting to use the pool. I have a toddler and my mom joined us since this is the first time she’s been big enough to swim. When we checked in they said that they didn’t have my daughter insurance on file and made a whole 15 minute scene about my 1 year old signing in as a guest despite us coming in no problem on multiple occasions. The woman in charge of signing in guests was so rude and condescending for no reason before there was even an issue and snapped bc my toddler was getting restless. Since we were obviously dressed for the pool they told us we were only aloud to use the indoor pool since the out door pool was members only. We were totally fine with this a pools a pool. As soon as we got into the indoor pool area the lifeguard came up and told us the pool was CLOSED and we were welcome to the outdoor pool, yes we stated that my mom was a guest, he said no problem. We spoke to 2 other employees in the pool area who said the same thing. Although there are 8 doors directly from there to the out door pool they are all closed and we had to go back through the lobby to get to the outdoor pool. My mom checked with the front desk and offered to pay for a day pass and the people at the desk told us the lifeguards and other employees don’t know what they’re talking about and basically to f-off and leave. Sorry for being a Karen but seriously I don’t know how they are willing to let people like this be employed. So rude and such a bad taste in my mouth. Summer is just starting and I was so excited to teach my baby to swim here bc I remember learning to swim there. After today just like a wow. Honestly they should have told us the indoor pool was closed for lessons and we weren’t welcome at the outdoor pool from the beginning and it would have been totally fine.
