I enjoy my free classes at the Piazza Alta. I've definitely built muscle for the past two years. I generally take the exercises that I learned in the class and use them outside of class. Kelly is a cool trainer and she always keeps you encouraged. It really does mean a lot to hear that you're doing a good job or what you need to work on. It's a great motivation.

Coaches Jonyull and Dom really pay attention to the details and make you feel like an individual, not just a client. Sam Whitney is the greatest fitness coach! I started training with Sam when I returned to work after maternity leave, and he was really skillful in helping me navigate that postpartum transition. Over the almost 3 years that he trained me I consistently felt results. Sam takes a holistic approach, helping with nutrition, sleep, stress, and overall wellness in addition to strength and fitness. Pittsburgh's gain is my loss, and I have missed working out with Sam since he moved!

This review is for Sam Whitney! Sam came into our lives when I was limping because of a bad knee and Mark had to undergo knee surgery. After training with Sam for 2 years I never have to worry about the pain that I felt as he was able to strengthen and teach best practices with training . Sam ended up training our whole family. Sam's guidance extended to our diet, sleep patterns and our overall wellness. Sam Whitney was the Lab for us! We were devastated when he moved to Pittsburgh ! Pittsburgh is lucky to have you Sam! If ever anyone is wondering about training in Pittsburg, try Sam that is where he is hanging his hat these days with the Lab!

I have had such an amazing time running with the Lab! Just wanted to give a special shout out to James for making running so much fun to Greg for combining cardio and strength so fluidly, and to Casie for helping when I’m extremely sore afterwards! Working with James has made me a stronger and more confident runner, which has translated to other forms of movement as well. Greg’s circuits are spicy and really make me work. Casie is an incredible body worker and such a kind soul. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I’ve been working with Marina as a swim instructor for the past three months and it has been a wonderful experience. She has a great way of explaining movement, is very positive and knows just what to say when she sees me getting in my head. I came to these lessons with joint pain and stiffness, and needed an exercise besides PT to get my body used to moving again. Marina has helped me form realistic goals to work through this. Currently we are working on my endurance, which I am proud to say has improved considerably. My biggest achievement is my blood pressure is now 116/66! I may not be winning any gold medals, but having the blood pressure of a teenager is a big win for me at this age. Big Thanks Marina 😁

My experience with Derek and the team at the Lab has exceeded all expectations. After a rash of injuries, I reached out to get some more support that would allow me to continue exercising in a sustainable and productive way.
Derek has worked with me to create a program intent on challenging my physical limits in a mindful way that prioritizes injury-prevention and listening to my body. He's been attentive and helpful at every step of the way, providing coaching via text/video analysis when our schedules have not aligned. This hybrid approach has made personal training accessible to me in a way that I did not originally think was possible.
It's only been just over a month, but already I have gained confidence to push myself in ways that I would not have previously out of fear of re-injury. I'm looking forward to continuing this program and setting myself up for a productive fitness journey for years to come!

Excellent, personalized and highly professional. I have been a long time client; most recently working with Derek Rebernik and Marina Forster.
My goal with Derek: to specifically gain muscle strength and mass through serious lifting. I am on the senior side of life, so this goal is not one that is typically taken seriously. Derek has been totally invested, bringing his focus on body building technique to help me build my confidence to work through incremental challenges safely, even mindfully. And yes, I am challenged.
My initial goal with Marina has been to use resistance work in the pool, plus aerobics to complement my work with Derek. She too is excellent, and perceptive. With her guidance, I am working on that initial goal - but also maybe finally actually mastering some basic swimming techniques. All good and having a clear positive impact on my strength, health and functionality. Also lots of fun.

In July 2022, I started training with Sam Whitney and James Snyder from The Lab. Although my fitness goals have shifted around - sometimes I’m training for a half marathon and sometimes I’m working on just being healthier - but they have been flexible with working around my demanding work schedule and shifting fitness goals. I also relocated from Philly to Miami, but I have been able to continue to train with The Lab on a remote basis. I have had great success when I follow the plans given to me - my physicality has never been better and I have run several long races with ease when I stuck with the plans. They are incredibly attentive and regularly check in with me to if how the plan needs to be adjusted based on what I have going on during a particular week and how I am feeling. Of course I miss meeting with them in-person because I miss our great talks while running or lifting together, but my remote training has been great too. I use The Lab’s app on my Apple Watch, which is easy to use, provides me with good reminders about what I need to do, and allows James to give me a weekly plan and keep an eye on my cardio & strength training activities.

The Lab is SUCH a great thing for Philadelphia. I’ve worked out with a number of trainers over the years, and The Lab WAY exceeded my expectations. They somehow made exercise enjoyable, and I’m so much healthier for it. I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in and am only getting stronger. When I was picking a gym, it was between this or Fitler Club, and I’m SO glad I picked The Lab.
They differentiate themselves because they’re mobile, but also because they take a wholistic approach to wellness, so if you want you can rotate through a number of different trainers with different backgrounds/skillsets (like physical therapy, strength based training, low-impact pool training, yoga, etc).
Special shout out to both Aaron and James who are my primary trainers. Aaron is infectiously ambitious and James is just delightful. Love them.
I’ve been running with James for a year and he’s helped me run Broad Street twice, which was something I never thought I could do. He made running approachable and now I just can’t stop. Aaron helped me train for Broad Street from a strength/stability based perspective, which helped prevent injury and made me feel comfortable increasing my mileage. The whole experience has been great.

HELLO, PITTSBURGH! My trainer, Sam Whitney, at The Lab by Aaron Bonser in Philadelphia is moving to Pittsburgh and opening a branch of The Lab there. My Loss, your good fortune in my opinion!
I have used Sam as my trainer for the last year, generally three times a week. He is without doubt the best trainer I have ever worked with. He is intellectually curious with an excellent educational and work background (degree from Temple in Physiology and a lot of relevant work experience) and he has helped me explore all sorts of health-related issues and plan my fitness and health activities going forward.
I have some health issues that I have shared with Sam, and I have found that he has been sensitive to those while also responding to my request that he push me as hard as he thinks is reasonable; the results shown in the In-Body and DEXA scans that I have gotten over the last year have been great (frankly I think that is an understatement) and I attribute much of that to Sam’s guidance in planning my workouts and both encouraging me and also cutting me some slack when I’ve needed it.
Part and parcel of that is that he has a great personality, so that we can yank each other’s chain (and there’s been plenty to yank in both directions!) but at the same time have thoughtful discussions on a wide range of topics, both health and more generally. In simple terms, I’ve found Sam to be someone I’ve been able to bond with, someone I find I seek not to disappoint by failing to work to achieve my goals and honor my commitments to him. The proof of that is not only in my scan results, but more simply and obviously in the fact that he has convinced me to substantially change my sleep patterns, my nutritional and drinking habits and my health practices in general, something that no one in my family has ever been able to do.
THE BOTTOM LINE: get ahold of Sam ASAP and line up some sessions; I think he is going to have a full schedule very quickly and I sincerely believe you will have a great experience with him.
