Tufas stands out as a genuinely supportive and motivating space. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is inclusive. It’s clear the members and the team are passionate about the space.

I particularly appreciate shoe rentals and the staff that did my intro to climbing. The coaches/instructors are fantastic at providing personalized feedback and tips. Highly recommend for anyone looking to start climbing!

Where do I even start? Tufas is hands down the best climbing gym in Philly, maybe even in the US (though I may be biased). The community here is unmatched. The staff is the best, the climbers are also the best. All around great vibes, great music, great atmosphere. I’ve met some of my best friends at this place. Not to mention the climbs, which never disappoint: they are fun, creative, and they reset their walls pretty fast. And they have ping pong! I can’t say enough good things about this place, and I truly believe if you’re not climbing at Tufas, you’re missing out.

My son and I visit the area from Denver and we both love climbing at Tufas. The route setters are AMAZING! They are so thoughtful with the V2-V6 range and give climbers a chance to find and use all of the techniques you will need to climb V6-V10 while having super fun problems to work through. Knee bars. Drop knees. Toe and heel hooks. Multiple betas. And their volumes are awesome. Good vibe and people, but it is the route setting that makes Tufas my favorite climbing gym!

Found this very amazing deal on Groupon, intro to bouldering for 2 for an hour for $30 and an open day pass. Great experience with Alexi as a trainer well worth the voucher. I was extremely nervous because it was not what I expected and was out of my comfort zone but as a beginner Alexi made me feel confident and safe. Something to do in Philly for a cool date night!

We came here for intro to bouldering with 2 kids aged 8 & 11. Idaho was a great teacher, easy to understand, detailed and friendly! There were both easy and challenging routes for us beginners as well as a pingpong table we all enjoyed when we got too tired to climb. Everyone seemed respectful, took turns and were aware of each others space. We will definitely be back :)

I went with a friend who got a Groupon. The staff there said to book directly thru them and they will match the Groupon price. They were very friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. I have experience in rock climbing but bouldering is climbing without ropes. It was exhilarating! Would definitely go back again.

love Tufas. The gym's beginner-friendly, I'm a beginner and the routes hold progression potential. I've brought new climbers here and they've always enjoyed it. Always had a fun time whether it's bouldering, working out with the gym equipment, or playing ping pong. The staff's friendly & so helpful, especially Alexi who helped my shoe purchase :) The community's respectful & kind

Nice facility with a good spread of wall angles (from slab to roof and most angles in-between). The setting while we were there was for a comp, so it was atypical, but it was very fun coordination climbing. They have a wide variety of holds (360, Flat, Cheetah) and use volumes extensively. The facility has an adjustable Kilter and T2 board. They also have BM 1000 and 2000s and a campus board. The gym was perfectly adequate for cross training (free weights, Benches, squat rack, cable machine, and cardio equipment). They had snacks and drinks (what is a gym without readily available caffeine?), and gender neutral bathrooms, one of which included a functional shower. Moreover their day pass fee is on a need based sliding scale which is a nice touch. Overall would recommend to anyone in the Philadelphia area who likes fun bouldering.

I hesitate between 4 and 5 stars. The gym is fun, problems are often quite interesting (though, certainly more could be set as the number of problems for the size of the space is small). There is a good training area and a couple of system boards (grasshopper and another variety?). However, I don’t think it is great when the biggest throws/hardest moves on the wall are at the very very top. In my opinion, this makes the climbing unnecessarily dangerous. Better to do difficult moves in the middle where falls would likely result in fewer injuries. If I’m going to nearly kill myself on a climb I’d prefer it to be at my limit outside, not at the gym. More problems when the crux is something other than a giant throw is also great for helping climbers develop balance, finger strength, leg strength, etc.

In the end, I think the gym still deserves 5 stars. The potential is really there.

Top 3 gyms I’ve ever been to. Came here for a work trip and I’m glad this was the gym I chose. The nicest staff I’ve ever talked to at a gym, I always joke about how I hate gym staff but the customer service and conversation here was out of this world. Some of the funnest routes I’ve ever climbed. The route setters know how to use a variation of holds so even if you are just starting out all the beginner routes aren’t just straight up ladder like and have awesome features. Also love how it’s sliding scale. I’ve never seen that before in a gym and it’s very accessible. I’ve never seen a day pass so cheap before anywhere, even In the Midwest. If you are serious about climbing or seriously thinking about starting out in climbing, this gym will get you really good pretty quickly.

Just came here today with a friend as he recommended it and I loved the vibe as it was very chill and soothing and had different types of rocks and settings for beginners to advanced climbers. They really put the lounge in boulder lounge. Since my first climb there I’ve felt welcomed by the staff as well as other climbers. The place is super clean with lots of space and nice lighting. There’s no intimidating atmosphere there. If anything it sometimes feels like a study session when they got some jazzy music playing. The training area is great. The route setters are great. The price is great. Couldn’t suggest Tufas more.

Overall, one of the best gyms in the area at a great price. Top 2 in area behind Reach in Conshohocken.

My son competes and this gym is built for people like him. The climbs are definitely more modern in style and built for moderate to experienced climbers. My son never leaves disappointed.

The facilities is impeccable. It is clean and has plenty of sitting areas.

The reason for a 4 instead of a 5 is due to it being more for experienced climbers. I have seen little kids struggle to find climbs for them. The place isn't great for people to just show up and climb when they never climbed before. PRG and Elite Rock Climbing in Maple Shade are better for those who never climbed before or for those who are just beginning their journey.

Tufas is an incredible bouldering gym! The staff is super friendly and accommodating, and you can really tell they really strive to create a safe, inclusive and enjoyable space for climbers of any background and skill level! The problems feel really intelligently set and varied and rotate out just frequently enough to allow me to conquer that one that has been challenging me, without the rest of the gym becoming stale. They may not have top rope here, but this is still my preferred rock climbing gym in Philadelphia! Almost forgot to mention they provide sliding scale payment options to help make the sport more accessible to everyone.

Excellent bouldering gym. Nothing much bad to say about the experience. Great use of the space with a diverse set of features including a beautiful sustained over hang section that’s the perfect length and height. Two system boards and a work out area. For a small gym they have everything needed. Route setting is exceptional with technical skill being needed at all grades. Interesting, functional, esthetic problems throughout and no ladder climbs at all. Music and vibes were also very good. The smaller gym and friendly staff made it so you feel very much at home and comfortable talking to other climbers and sharing in the experience. This is a quiet gem of a gym. Biggest issue is that it’s not near my house or it would be perfect.

I bought the intro to bouldering class for my partner and I for his birthday, and we had a phenomenal time. I have been bouldering for three years and have taken intro classes at two other area gyms - Tufas was undoubtedly the best.

The instructor, Tim, was engaging, patient and so fun. He managed to pack so much information into just an hour, but in a way that it was easy to follow. I was really able to apply what he taught to improve my climbs. Tim was so supportive and chill too, it was like climbing with a friend. And as a bonus, you can stay after the class for as long as you want to climb around!

My partner and I took a break in the video game lounge after class finished and then climbed for a few more hours. Tufas has couches and benches to recover on between climbs and overall just a fun, laid-back vibe. If you're looking for a great gym in the Philadelphia area, I recommend Tufas a thousand times over.

Took the intro to bouldering class and had a great time and this is coming from someone who has bouldered on and off for a few years. I still got a lot from the class and picked up some new ways to think about how to approach a route. Not only did I learn a lot, but the staff member who taught it, Tim, was enthusiastic and had great energy which made the class all that much better! I'll definitely be going back.

I’ve been here I would say about ten times now. I love this place more than anything. The staff is always super friendly, even all the other climbers are really nice too. The rock climbing is all bouldering, so if you’re looking to be strapped into a harness this isn’t the place for you haha. The wall might seem intimidating at first, and learning how to fall is a little nerve racking and can be hard to get used to, but it’s one of the best experiences I’ve had in my life. This place is good for beginners, intermediate climbers, and expert climbers. It’s a great workout for anyone no matter the size. I’ve brought people big and small here, and they always have a blast. It’s a full body workout so be prepared to work muscles you didn’t even know you had lmao. They even have a little gym section in the back if you wanted to workout at anytime during your climb. This place is also very LGBTQ friendly, I’ve met some awesome people here. If you get too tired during your climb, they also have a ping pong table.

Absolutely love Tufas. They have such friendly staff, clean facilities, great music, the best, most creative, and fun boulder problems, and keep a welcoming and safe space to climb in.

One of the best gyms in Philly, Tufas uses a sliding scale system for rentals and passes making climbing more accessible. They have a small shop with shoes, chalk bags, and other climbing necessities, and offer classes, workshops, and opportunities to meet other climbers throughout the year. Tufas also has a general training and fitness space.

Nice gym. Excellent training facilities (moon board etc, weights, bit of cardio equipment). Good setting and lot of steep terrain if that's your thing. Parking was easy. Only minor criticism is the rowing machine needs some TLC to pull smoothly!

This is the best climbing gym I've been to. The route setting is amazing, everyone who works here is friendly, it's never too crowded, and it doesn't feel like a weird corporate cult like a lot of other gyms popping up these days do. If you're primarily interested in bouldering, this is the best gym.

Best climbing gym I’ve ever been to! It’s such a welcoming atmosphere for new climbers while still offering tons of challenge problems for experienced climbers.

Can’t recommend it enough!

I had a great time at the Tufas Boulder Lounge. Good size, was good with the covid rules, and very inclusive as it appears very LGBTQIA+ friendly. A mark of a great facility in my eyes.

The routes were well set. My only minor quibble is there was not nearly enough β€˜European style’ route setting and probably could stand to have a few more routes that are beginner to V1 grade if one wanted to bring newcomers. Otherwise the routes that were there are solid to excellent stuff.

I had a blast and would not hesitate to return if I’m in town again.

They where quick to rectify a problem I had there. Can’t give it a solid review cause I was only there for ten mins. They emailed me back quickly and everything was resolved. Place looked cool and was clean, that about all I can review

Came here today for the first time after meaning to check it out for a while, & had a blast! I'm a member of a different climbing gym, which I love, but every so often I like to check out different gyms I haven't been to for a little extra variety. This was well worth the day pass, which was reasonably priced. I really have to hand it to the route setters there, the problems were really interesting, & super fun! I actually found myself really enjoying the more static slab walls, which normally aren't my favorite style, more so than usual, & the area with the steep roofs & overhangs was especially fantastic & fun. They have a small fitness area, but it's more than enough for cross training for climbing or not, & I know it's a small thing, but I really appreciated that they had a sink right in the main area of the gym so you could wash your hands without having to go to the restroom. It was also really easy to get to via public transportation. I definitely will be back!

My teenager has had a great experience in the youth programs for the past couple of years. The staff and other youth climbers are so supportive--everyone genuinely wants each other to succeed. I see this attitude among the young adult climbers too; they are great examples for the kids to emulate. This is truly an environment dedicated to the whole person: physical wellness, inclusivity, and mental toughness (you can do it!) with social support. I feel so lucky that my kid is a part of this community.

The best bouldering in Philly, hands down. The routes are creative, challenging and really fun. The staff is also top notch! 100% recommend.

Great friendly staff, very fun setting style, lots of variety, and challenging problems. I was impressed by this gym and all it had to offer, the admission cost was variable and charged what you could afford allowing more to get into climbing, they had a ping pong table, small gym set up with great equipment including a curved treadmill, slab walls with very technical problems that test your relationship with your toes and climbing shoes and routes that require dynamic moves out of the cave. If I lived closer I would sign up for a membership in a heartbeat.

The setting here is top-notch and very thoughtful. My benchmark for a good set is when several people of different levels can approach a climb and all send it in different ways, and I would say that is 100% possible at Tufas.

A huge variety of holds is used, and the sets are packed densely so there is plenty to do at every grade level. The circuit grading is used well and encourages you to try all sorts of climbs.
Tufas makes great use of it's space and has climbs of all lengths - some traverses are comparable to your average 25foot wall climb.
All in all, this a top-notch bouldering spot (and worlds better than Cliffs @ Callowhill in that field).

Tufas has a huge focus on its own community as well, and makes that known through it's pricing and diversity initiatives. It's refreshing to see a gym that genuinely cares. Will definitely climb here again, and strongly recommend checking Tufas out if you enjoy bouldering in any capacity!

this is coming from a new climber, after about 2 months of consistent climbing at Tufas. all the staff members I've met are really friendly and helpful and the gym has great, fun climbs for all skill levels (including lots that I know I need to work a lot longer to achieve). even though I knew no one coming in, I immediately felt welcome, and the community of climbers is very friendly.
The events to meet other climbers are also great!! even people who usually climb elsewhere seem to agree that Tufas is one of their favorite places to boulder

Tufas was definitely one of the best climbing gyms I've been to. They had plenty of space for climbing while still being distant enough to feel safe. The place was spotless and clean from top to bottom. They offer chalk and have amazing customer service and the prices aren't bad at all. They offer not only all levels of climbing, but also a gym for weight lifting as well, and the cherry on top, a ping pong table for fun, what's not to love?! The best part is the amount of cubbies they have for placing your stuff while climbing which is great. Keep up the great work Tufas and enjoy climbing everyone, hang in there!

Tufas feels like home when you walk in. There is a wonderfully supportive and inclusive climbing community here. The facility is exceptionally clean and well taken care of. There is even a gym space to exercise and ample room to warm up before climbing. You can tell the staff put their heart and soul into creating and positive atmosphere and experience for the members. I always look forward to and feel inspired when walking into the building!
