I joined this location as a PF Black Card member back in August of 2022 mostly because I travel for work and wanted to be able to access a PF when I'm on the road.

Despite a couple of periods where there have been issues with broken equipment & the water fountain being down--during which time free bottles of water were available to everyone--I feel it's an excellent value for the money. In addition, it's open 24/7 & they've just upgraded all the cardio machines & added new several pieces of new equipment including 3 multi-function squat racks.

Finally, this location is on the larger side, it has great parking, it's clean, and most of the staff are friendly and helpful.

Why do they feel the need to always turn the ceiling fans off? Really? Some Employees behind the counter with a small attitude asking if you have tanning eye protection to use the tanning beds, which is necessary to use when tanning but nobody really uses eye protection anyway. Some machines are off balance and also, there is some guy who’s not wearing a Planet Fitness uniform cleaning equipment wearing dirty clothing wearing a face mask who only decides to clean when the trainer is around other than that he’s on his phone.

I’ve been a loyal Planet Fitness member for over a decade, but today was the first time I’ve ever left one of their gyms feeling humiliated and disrespected.

While working out—quietly, I might add—I was approached by a staff member who gave me a demeaning once-over and then had the audacity to say, “You look like you should know how to work out,” in reference to me supposedly lifting “too loudly.” Let me be clear: I was not slamming weights or being disruptive. I was simply focused and putting in effort, like any gym-goer should be allowed to.

If I had genuinely been too loud, a respectful conversation would have gone a long way. Instead, I was met with condescension and an incredibly rude remark that felt more like a personal insult than any sort of constructive feedback.

Planet Fitness markets itself as a “Judgment Free Zone,” but what I experienced today was the exact opposite. After 10 years of workouts across multiple locations, I’ve never been spoken to this way by any employee. It was completely unprofessional and unacceptable.

If this is how members are being treated now, I strongly recommend reconsidering a membership. No one deserves to be talked down to or made to feel small for showing up and doing their best. Judging by the way I was treated today, the only thing “free” in that building is respect—because they certainly aren’t handing any out.

I referred my son to this gym. He's been there for an hour and never did get to enjoy the gym. The guy at reception just went off on him and blamed him for their system not working, cursing and yelling. I’ve been a member at Clemson Road since July, 2022 and very pleased with the customer driven service and high housekeeping standards. The staff and management have always been friendly, helpful, and responsive to any concerns. As a stage 4 cancer survivor along with permanent injuries from a motorcycle accident, I have been committed to a healthy lifestyle. Planet Fitness has played a significant role in helping me achieve my fitness goals. With the Black Card membership I use multiple facilities across town as well as out of state. 5 Star!!!

Gym is usually dirty & WORST CUSTMOER SERVICE EVER!! You walk in and there will be 3,4 people behind the desk and nobody will speak or 1 MIGHT say have a good workout so low & unenthusiastically, you barely hear them. Most of the employees are friendly and respectful.
It's a good facility for the whole family to exercise and work out.
Our daughter and son were both able to use the equipment and learn different exercises. It was a great experience being able to teach them at the facility.
The monthly membership is reasonably priced. I hope they keep the low prices or $10 per month for standard membership and $20 per month for black card memberships.

I had zero issues with this spot. I paid my membership dues for that last 3 years even though I haven't been.... I just forgot about it. I tried to cancel my membership before moving out of state but it was closed for days with no way to contact. I called once it was open and an employee told me I could cancel by sending them an email including my signature. I was ignored for 2 days and now they are not honoring what the employee told me to do. I am unable to come in and if I send a letter I will be charged for a month I wasn’t even in the state for. their communication is non existent and the manager who emailed me back was totally unwilling to listen to what happened. The water fountain was not working. Multiple people told the staff about the issue. The only thing that the staff did was put up a sign to say it wasn't working. They could have at least checked the mechanical/electrical room to see if the breaker was tripped. It clearly had no power. Not having access to water in a gym is unacceptable.

Formal Complaint: Poor Customer Service at Planet Fitness

Date: September 18, 2024, between the hours of 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Planet Fitness - Clemson Road

I am writing to express my disappointment with the poor customer service I received during my recent visit to Planet Fitness. On September 18, 2024, I encountered an issue with the non-functional cooling system in the gym.

Upon arrival, the staff member (a black lady with two cornrow braids) approached me and inquired about the gym being hot. I shared my experience with the problem from the previous day (September 17, 2024), and she seemed concerned and pleasant.

However, when I later mentioned the ongoing issue (as she casually walked the floor) and inquired about the cooling system being fixed, her demeanor shifted. Her tone became dismissive and annoyed, giving the impression that I was inconveniencing her.

Specifically, she stated that she couldn't guarantee the system would be fixed by the next day, seemingly playing semantics with the term 'fixed.' When I politely addressed her tone, she abruptly ended our conversation and walked away.

Although I appreciated her message about the A/C being looked at on tomorrow, I was taken aback by this sudden change in attitude, especially since our initial interaction had been cordial.

Unfortunately, this experience is consistent with my previous interactions at Planet Fitness, where convenience is the sole reason I continue my membership.

Recommendation:

Prospective customers should exercise caution and consider alternative gyms like YMCA, MUV, or Planet Fitness (specifically West Columbia or Two Notch) which prioritize customer service.

Suggested Resolution:

1. Staff training on effective communication and customer service.
2. Improved maintenance and prompt issue resolution.

I hope Planet Fitness takes my feedback seriously and addresses these concerns.

This location is a money scam and filled with steroid users that staff will point out to you. I have been very unsuccessful in my attempts to close my account.

I initially requested my account be closed in-person on April 25, 2024. It was not so I went again on May 20, 2024 to cancel. It was not, so I sent an email on June 8, 2024, seeking cancellation and did not receive a response. It was not. I followed up with a third in-person visit on June 27, 2024 to close this account. In each in-person visit I was assured the account would be closed, and would not occur additional fees. It is still open and incurring fees.

I requested that this account be cancelled multiple times, using different methods. It is still open. What else should you expect much from a location that knows steroids are being sold in their gym, and they don’t do anything to stop it?

Planet Fitness continues to make unauthorized attempts to charge two different bank accounts without my authorization. They cannot make time to close my account, but can tag team two different bank institutions to try to take my money. Shocking…Management doesn’t respond to emails, and does not process cancellation notices. I requested a call back from them twice, and never received a call back. I emailed corporate. Corporate refers you to the club, and the club ignores you. Who needs the gym when you can run on this hamster wheel of confusion?!?!

Cancel my account effective April 25, 2024 and waive any associated fees.

I became a member of this PF recently and so far I like going here. The hydro massage beds are out of order but overall it’s clean, spacious when not crowded, and most of the staff are very nice! I will definitely keep going back!

I do not like the newer style ellipticals that have limited stride and confine the user to a stationary leg and foot position. It would be great if they would have left a few of the older models for taller people like myself that likes more freedom in their exercise. Most of the other new equipment like the rotary torso are confining and horrible also.

One of the more popular nautilus equipment was out of use and there was 3 people taking turns over 25 minutes using the only other one that was available, very inconsiderate.

Locker rooms are decent with large shower stalls, and for the most part were clean. Do not like the Euro-style overhead shower heads (unless you turn the water off and catch a chill it's always running down directly over making it difficult to lather) , traditional side wall shower heads would have been fine and the water pressure could have been better also.

Next time I'll go to Two Notch Rd location instead despite the open area changing room which does not have any private stalls for dressing.

I went in to tan and needed to update my credit/debit card from my card being lost. Leroy said they only take debit payments so, I had to enter my PIN number. For security and bank points I only run my credit/debit card as a credit and not a debit transaction. He insisted their system only takes debit payments and I would need to enter my pin to update my card and pay my balance from last month. I explained to him I’ve updated my bank card not long ago and was able to run it as a credit. Thirty minutes later he changes my account to add the new card and it showed pending on my bank online. He said he updated it but, I wouldn’t be able to use the gym until the payment processed and that’s up to my bank! I’ve never had this issue with this store or other planet fitness locations when I’ve updated my bank card! It would be beneficial to train Leroy on how to update a customers bank card so they can sign as I’ve done before at the Camden location and this Clemson location. He was not willing to call another store for help and mgt wasn’t in.
Leroy also doesn’t understand what is meant when I asked if any of the tanning bed had gotten new bulbs lately. He repeatedly said Bed 3 is down but all the bulbs are working on bed 2. I tried to explain that’s not what I’m asking. Are the bulbs new or when were they last replaced? I have a black membership to tan and the bulbs in the beds are old and do not tan you. I’ve driven to Camden several times because they update their bulbs in the beds. He couldn’t figure out what I meant or maybe he was just being difficult. Either way, please train your employees so, they’re knowledgeable of the system and provide good customer service. Today was not a pleasant experience with Leroy.

I normally love this gym and the staff. However over the past two months they have allowed a personal trainer to train and take over most of the equipment and space in the back. Which to my knowledge Planet fitness has a no personal training policy. I hate having to fight for equipment back there. I am very disappointed with the unprofessional behavior of the staff at this location. No matter what time you come in this facility you have to prepare for the base and common behavior of kids who have not been trained in customer service. I watch them overly mock and jeer when customers come in or go out. Most ignore the childishness but at times I have addressed my issues with management. I finally got fed up and moved my membership over to MUV. Long story short: you don’t have to give up your peace of mind in order to work out. The prices are affordable and I wish I had made this move sooner.

I like that this location is open 24 hours. However, the quality of cleanliness and service has been lacking for a while. The paper towel dispenser is off empty in some areas, machines are sometimes inoperable, and some of the staff don't even bother to check the bathrooms or main floor for cleanliness. I used to frequent this location but have cut back tremendously based primarily on the issues stated above. I hope that Planet Fitness will address these issues, rather than running the risk of losing valued customers.

Where to start. My issue is management, management has a hard time keeping employees, and employees DO NOT clean. Equipment takes forever to get fixed, and I mean weeks or months. They have rules that they don't even follow, example, gym bags on the floor, I have seen plenty but my friend was told not to have one. Water dispenser has been broken for months now, too bad if you run out of water during your gym session. Equipment pads are in really bad shape, and haven't been replaced.
The only reason I keep being a customer is because it's close to my house.

NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE BLACK CARD. I am canceling mine today. I tried it yesterday, and it was a painful experience. The equipment is filthy, and most are broken. I layed on the Hydro bed, which was wet from another patron. The bottom of the tanning machine was dirty and had hair from other customers.
On top of that, you have to keep asking staff members to start the equipment for you, which takes away the experience. The gym side is decent thus far. But the "Spa experience" is not at all.

I've been going here since they opened, I love this place. But if there's one thing I hate going here; it's trying to tan here. Trying to get a tan here is so difficult or a waste of time trying.
Over the years it's either, nobody is at the counter. Act like I'm wasting their time, The beds aren't turned on by the associate and I have to get back dress to let them know. The Computer to (sign in) is broken. If it does, it doesn't compute that I signed in.
Or they assign me to a bed that someone is currently using. There's way more stories. But that's a long story short. I'm trying to get a tan this year, without any problems. This place needs to do better.

As a first time visitor I guess I expected a more "energetic" welcome, but what I got was a lackluster beginning. Told the guy I was a new client and unsure of the processes... without getting up from his seat on the back counter, he instructed me to sign in with my phone and afterwards was told, "There ya go." Before I walked away he asked what size shirt I wore, I told him and received a size smaller than I asked for and he sat back down. No sweat,
I'm here to get to this size, right?! I toured the gym myself until I made it back to the counter when he then told me I could check out the PF Spa for BC holders. After 10-15 minutes of wondering and looking I asked about the massage chairs, he told me to make an appointment, I did, and after that, I asked about the hydrobeds, and was told to make an appointment. No instruction, no do's or don't, just nothing. As I sat there in the spa waiting area, I heard a bed just activate and I assumed that it was for me. The operation was easy enough to figure out.. After that finished, I left, no exit greeting or anything, probably didn't even notice. And I get it, maybe it was because of the time, 3am, but still... I expected some hospitality.

I'm trying to understand how is it open for twenty four hours but the doors are locked now at 5am on Feb 12 2023? . Y'all need to make sure y'all are open especially if y'all just confirm a week ago y'all are 24:hours. What a waste of gas. So ridiculous. Stop adversting 24:hours if y'all not gonna be open.
