I have been a member of Planet Fitness for 7 or 8 years now and find the facilities suit my families needs well. We like that there are a variety of equipment available for weight training and for cardio. Therefore we can flexibly rotate through each type of exercise during each visit. I also like the flexibility of hours to visit - essentially anytime for us. As is common with all facilities, the equipment or the facility is not 100% perfect for each visit. However and more importantly the staff is quite responsive when alerted to the situation and make efforts to correct the situation in a reasonable time.

I use Planet Fitness currently for the tanning beds only. I will say it’s the best bang for your buck for tanning. During the off season they don’t keep the beds up like they should & allow bulbs to burn out but I still say the value is far better than paying $50-85 a month elsewhere. The other bonus is you have a gym membership so it’s really pretty amazing. I like PF it’s pretty amazing for the fees to be honest. There are lockers, showers, & clean restrooms. You can join online or at a local gym.

I like the location and affordability of this gym. However, one of the treadmills was not working. When I mention it to the staff on 7/8/2023 about not having a "not working" sign posted, nothing was done. I just moved to the next treadmill. Unfortunately, another member stepped on that same treadmill to begin a workout and I politely told her that it was not working.

Update 10/14/2024- The gym is much better. I had a great workout. I was greeted by a courteous staff member. The gym has new and better equipment. The facility is clean and the environment is quiet and peaceful. I definitely would recommend!

I'm changing my rating due to the lazy staff. I did a training session and the trainer recommended that I try the 30 min circuit room. I loved it !! Until other members started coming in just to use one or two pieces of equipment and interrupt the rotation of my workout. I have reported this to the staff as advised. But they do not do anything. To most of them, working here is a pie job and it shows. Hopefully, once I get settled into my new position. I can go to a more upscale gym.

My experience so far has been horrible. I have been consistently going to this gym for about 4 months in the mornings. There are two young men who work the front desk and they are constantly making fun of me. The start laughing every time I pass by them whether I'm going or coming. They have made me feel so bullied and unwelcomed that I have decided to find another gym. Everyone else who is there working out is amazing, and the environment for me would be pleasant if the two boys at the front desk weren't bullies and striving to make me feel bad about myself. The whole point of joining a gym was to start working out to lose weight but they have made it such a judgmental culture and an unpleasant experience. I would highly suggest to avoid the mornings or avoid this place altogether.

Planet Fitness is great for anyone who is looking to exercise. It is a place where you don't feel judged for what you look like or for which machines you use (or don't use). One of my favorites is the 30 minute circuit. It's a great way to workout when you don't know where to begin or how to use the machines. I also love the Black Card perks. The hydromassage and massage chairs are the best after-workout treat to yourself. I always look forward to a workout here.

I like the new machines, there was one type of machines you got rid of though that was down the aisle infront of the woman’s bathroom that was like an elliptical type but the arms were stationary, was the only one that didn’t hurt my knees and I could burn so much more calories in shorter time.

I like the new rearrangement too with the dumbbells to the right of the gym. Did y’all install new fans too? It feels more airy now.

Staff is more laid back at this location.

Two things I’d change is how low the bench is at cable machines for lat pull downs, it’s really low compared to the other location, I have to sit reverse Bc it’s made for Short legged humans. And the paper towel dispensers, just weld two rods on the trash cans and slide the roll on it. The ones you have currently are so loud when someone cranks that mess to get any paper out of it and then no one is wiping the paper dust off the wheels so it can grip and feed it through. I’ll find a pic of how it was in Arizona and leave it at the desk.

Can someone look into why I’m not able to use my black card amenities at this location other than to check in my guest?

Do you not do bagel mornings, biggest loser contests?

In Bama one franchise let you accumulate 450 points to get one month free, 450 points is hard to get, 5pts every check in. I did that in 2019 and it really motivated me to loose 44lbs.

Thank you again for the new machines but I’ll still have to use both locations Bc of that short bench and lack of using my amenities that I’m paying for.

I honestly don’t have an issue with the gym but for the past three days I’m so uncomfortable because of that one black dude who wears a baseball cap and dark shades in the gym, he tried talking to me and I ignored him but good lord he follows me around and does weird stuff. I don’t care if a guy looks at me am a woman he’s man but when ur going stalk me around the gym then there’s goes the problem.. today he came in and as I move he moves it’s very creepy… I will be finding a new gym because I don’t need a stalker who keeps giving me weird vibes with smirk and showing me he’s watching me. I've enjoyed this gym for years & I absolutely love the atmosphere. The staff has always been very welcoming & friendly. There has never been a time that I have felt uncomfortable. However, as of recent visits, I have been disappointed. Currently 1 massage chair is out of order with seemingly no efforts to replace it nor an "Out of Order" sign & the 2nd chair barely performs at all. Hydromassage bed in room #9 is old & doesn't work well & barely warms the water jets. The TV's throughout are rarely on at night when I go, including the Black Card Zone & locker room. I'd love to see new chairs at least.

Irby Street: Took a tour on Thursday by a guy who gave thorough information and signed me up to join the gym. It was explained to be by 2 staff that my son (teenager by the way) could come with me if he wasn’t going to work out and they even showed my son where he could sit. Showed up to work out and was met with hostility by the worker checking me in accusing me of not even having the tour I had. I asked them to watch camera to see for herself before being rudely treated. The manager I assume his we was equally disrespectful short and unkind. Worst experience ever! Absolutely unprofessional! I have been going to the David McLeod blvd location for almost a month. I have had a great experience until this morning. According to Heather, you have to be silent in the gym. She approached me and my friend on the treadmills and said that she had to turn the music up twice bc we were so loud and if we didn’t quiet down she was going to have to ask us to leave! We weren’t yelling, screaming or any out of ordinary noise. We were having regular conversation side by side and there is no way she could hear us from where we were and where she was in that gym. Of the weeks I’ve been going there, we’ve never been approached for being loud, so I find it funny that all of a sudden today we are. Yet there was gentleman running up and down the gym where the sign clearly says no running, and she didn’t say a word to him. I was really enjoying this gym, but thanks to Heather, you have now lost 2 customers. If I could give no stars, I would!!!

I was enjoying the gym until this morning I came across Heather working at the front desk. She was not nice at all & got upset because she couldn’t explain the withdrawals out of my account. Heather approached the treadmill while we were walking & laughing and stated she would have to ask us to leave if we didn't quiet down. This was racially motivated because there was a white guy running around the gym & it clearly says no running and she didnt say anything to him. How dare you ask us to stop laughing & enjoying our morning walk. Its a gym and it’s 5:30am we are excited about our journey. I will not be continuing my journey at planet fitness!! In the approximate 4 months that Richard Brown has been manager of the Florence, SC Planet Fitness, PF has deteriorated in ALL facets. PF is less clean, the gym is less pleasant to visit because of Richard Brown's surly attitude and personality, and the overall quality of the gym/experience has significantly declined. 5 months ago Richard Brown left the Bluffton SC PF in a terrible state after about 1 year of becoming assistant manager, then manager. He never left the front desk, and attempted to manage by directing orders to the workers. He is doing, and has attempted to do the same with the Florence, SC PF. Richard Brown is disliked by many members of the Florence PF because of his scowl and unpleasant, uncaring demeanor. The dressings rooms are usually unclean because of a lack of supervision by Richard Brown of the employees. The sinks, mirrors, toilets, showers, and shower curtains are unsanitary because of a lack of regular, daily, thorough cleaning. It is Brown's responsibility to ensure that these areas are deep-cleaned daily. The lockers are NEVER cleaned. The manager--Richard Brown is directly responsible for this lack of cleanliness throughout the Florence, SC PF, with the result that the Florence, SC PF is generally unsanitary. Florence needs a new manager ASAP! Richard Brown needs to go NOW!!
