I bought a membership and cancelled the same day within hours and they still send invoices saying I owe over 1000 dollars for a gym I never not one time used Ever! I switched to this gym about 2 1/2 years ago from another gym in town. The staff helped me exceed my fitness goals and are always present and willing to answer questions and assist you. The building does need some improvements, but I can see the new ownership is already taking charge and making updates. The trainers are supportive and accommodating to your schedule. The management is accessible and very supportive as well. The gym is very large and there is enough equipment that you don’t have to sit and wait to use things. Overall, my experience there has been wonderful and it is the reason I keep going to the gym.

This gym is the best! They have no hidden fees on their memberships. You can go month to month. And students can go for half price. There are discounted memberships for first responders, military and veterans. This gym has: racquetball courts, a full basketball court, a cross-fit gym and a tanning bed. They're soon going to offer IV therapy. Not only that, they offer use of: a cryo chamber, a red light bed, compression therapy. The protein nutrition bar, located in the gym is a big plus for me. I never have to wait to use equipment. The locker rooms are great! Since I've been here, they are making all kinds of improvements, renovating the locker rooms. Showers are great! Every trainer truly cares and are very knowledgeable. The staff is very friendly! They all welcome you in like family. Andrew is the Manager and he's GREAT! If you're looking for a home gym, this is your sign to JOIN AVALON!!

I went in to get a membership and they had really good customer service everyone was so welcoming and all had a smile on their face. The gym is HUGE and there is never a wait for equipment. Plus, after I’m done with my workout, I can grab a post-workout shake at the Boro Protein and Energy Bar located inside the gym. Andrew and Jacob are top notch. Very professional!

5 stars to the Mon-Wed morning crew for opening up gym upon arrival . To bad that the night shift leaves so much work for the morning crew to do upon arrival.

Leadership needs to check on that. As the night shift leaves , all trash should have been taken care of , bathrooms needs to be touched up before the alarm is set at end of shift.

It’s ridiculous to expect morning staff cover duties for another shift.

I have been a consistent gym goer, but was needing a change in my workouts. I decided to start training with Jack to switch things up and have since changed my body composition. The gym is overpriced, so I canceled my membership because it was too expensive and was told a couple weeks later that my membership is still active and I owe for 2 months. Great experience at Avalon Athletic Club and their added Personal Trainer services. I had medical injuries and doctors did not have any further solutions. Described to Jack the athletic director and assigned to trainer Jacob who had experience with knee and shoulder rehabilitation. Have steadily built up connective tissue and muscle strength with his knowledge and expertise. I have actually been pain free for 6 weeks (a first in 3yrs) and steadily gaining strength and endurance. Finally something CAN be done when partnered with a gym that knows kinesiology to get physical health progress. All staff friendly and welcoming, from front desk to owner. I recommend Avalon Athletic Club and Services!

Avalon offers a free fitness consultation with your membership, so I decided to do it—I recently had a milestone birthday & it seemed like a good time to assess and make a plan. To my surprise, a few simple moves during that first session helped alleviate pain in my hips I had been living with for 17 years—since I had my son. I decided to sign up for weekly training and the additional mobility and strength work have been tremendously helpful. I’ve taken exercise classes and worked out for years, but have been missing some fundamental aspects in training that are making a tremendous difference in my daily life. Training is an investment, but it’s a lot cheaper than all the issues that come from pain and a body that doesn’t function properly. I recommend Avalon & the trainers there including Ben & Polly.

I joined Avalon Fitness about 9 months ago, and my experience has been great. The staff is friendly, and the facility is clean. I also take sessions with a personal trainer. Both my previous trainer Andrew and my current trainer Christi have been very helpful. They are knowledgeable and helpful in showing me ways to improve. I used to be intimidated by weightlifting but now I feel comfortable and enjoy going to the gym!

I also love their recovery studio. I have used the localized cryotherapy service for stubborn ankle pain and inflammation and Ben has been very kind and helpful.

The HVAC system has been broken for months on end. It might not seem like a big deal... until you are in it. The heat and humidity is stifling. Average temperature is in the 80's and the humidity feels about the same. Because I was unable to take it any longer, I requested to cancel my membership. They are charging me over $300 to cancel, and I can't even workout in there. I'm paying roughly $865 dollars a year for just three people. Almost $900 a year and no air conditioning? No thanks.

Air conditioner has been out for months and my family can't get through a workout without almost fainting, so we ask to cancel our membership, because of lack of AC. They tell us that's fine but we still have to pay out our contract. A year and a half ago my husband told me I should sign up here after we moved to Murfreesboro. The gym is huge and has tons of equipment (rarely wait for a machine) along with areas to workout and stretch. The staff and trainers are friendly and knowledgeable and are happy to help demonstrate a machine I have not used before. I signed up for personal training a little over a year ago and am pleased with my body transformation and strength progress both with the in person sessions and the new app for workouts on my own. If you want a gym where people are there to workout and get in shape and not just sit on their phones, this is the gym for you. On top of the gym, they also have 1 Self Recovery that has helped with some muscle issues I have had. A few sessions of local cryotherapy and compression afterwards, I have already started to notice feeling better. So much to offer here.

This place is so ran down and I can’t comprehend how it’s still in business. There’s nothing but older people and not a lot of them even. Ac has been broke for some time now so have fun working out in 80-90 degrees. I saw a roach running across the main gym floor the other day. Most things aren’t kept clean. Everything is out dated. You can still see old MAC signs on the wall they just painted over. Over priced compared to most gyms now even with all this nonsense. The basketball court and main gym floor has a leaky roof for months. The only good thing about this gym is it has a basketball court with one rim bent, and a floor that needs completely re done. They refuse to fix anything here because they don’t have to money to hire good help

This place is disgusting. It’s simply MAC with a new logo and name. They’ve done no cleaning to the gym as the locker rooms smell strong of musk and mold. The equipment is outdated and some doesn’t work. The treadmills are outdated. The entire place is just filthy. Their smoothie guy wasn’t even at the gym at 2:00, despite the front desk telling me he works until 5. He left early. The front desk employees also tried way too hard to sell their membership. They have been watching too many podcasts and YouTube videos trying to learn sales tactics because they were extremely cheesy and in genuine. When told no they continued prying trying to convince someone to sign a contract, that’s not how it works. Do yourself a favor and never step foot in this gym.

Two bad experiences while trying to cancel my membership

1. I am six weeks into cancelling my membership and as of 6/20, it still has not happened. Back to the beginning of May...

I had to cancel my gym membership and training contract. I had to buy out the remainder of my training contract before I could cancel my membership. I tried to do so and the training manager waited 7 days to respond to our active text conversation that was centered around lining up a date we could have a meeting and take care of business. It was a total of 10 days between me reaching out to him and our actual meeting, by which time another bi-weekly charge had been taken from me. The front desk manager told me no when I asked if he would refund the charge because the training manager took so long to get back to me and I was trying to cancel before the next automatic charge. I then went into the parking lot and wrote this original review.

(Update) - Tell me why I have been charged twice more since this bad review. I am out of ways to tell y'all to cancel me already! I've received emails from the billing department saying they can't refund my request because they "can't refund payments withdrawn prior to a cancellation request." Yes you can, the errors of the management have now made my refund into an operations bill and you can easily pay me via check or ACH transaction. A good way to avoid all of this would have been to pay me my money and then cancel me as a member, not do whatever the opposite is and still charge me every two weeks. Not good enough, and certainly deserving of a BBB audit.

I’ve been going to Avalon, Crunch and Gold’s since I moved to Murfreesboro and I must say that Avalon definitely should be renovated. It is extremely outdated. It is 2024 so there is no reason why the locker rooms should have carpet in them and even a portion of the gym floor is carpeted which is outdated. Some of the tvs do not work at all and a lot of the equipment is tattered. The employees are super nice in Avalon and I do like that the gym isn’t crowded however Avalon definitely should be renovated. If you go to TruFit, Crunch or Gold’s you will immediately see what I mean. Overall, I like the environment in Avalon but the locker rooms need fresh paint, new floors, etc and also several other areas of the gym need some attention.

We recently re-joined this gym after being members of the MAC. Some positives are that the gym is huge with plenty of machines. So no wait times. It is also quiet, which I love. Some of the negatives……. Although there are plenty of treadmills, many stay broken. Either a fan or a button or something is not working. There are a few televisions in the front room but no ability to hook up to the TVs to listen. The treadmills in the back room have no TVs at all. The other negative is the app. It needs serious work. There is really no information on it at all. Updates, such as weather closures etc need to be listed there. Even the code that you use to sign in with at the front desk is finicky and doesn’t work. As pricey as this gym is, the equipment should be updated and the app should be minimally functional.

Great Gym! Shocker, I just read a review about Elijah getting fired. Wow, always seen him smiling! Never could I imagine seeing him lose his job. I came as a guest the beginning of December and literally watched a man pass out from an asthma attacked, ambulances and the fire department came and while everyone else watched the guy and laughed, Elijah was the only person I seen go check up on him afterwards..! Atrocious, simply and irreversibly horrible. In 2020 (or '21) when Avalon bought out the MAC, they told the personal training companies they could continue until December, and then pulled the rug out from under them in Sept/Oct instead. When my trainer told me that they would be moving gyms, I went to the front desk and told them that i'd like to cancel my membership when my PT left. They gave me a hard time, but eventually I was allowed after a few days to cancel membership. Come to January following, and I get a bill for over $200, that auto drafts FIVE TIMES. I called them, and they said that since I was in a contract with them, (I was no longer, i'd cancelled my membership and my contact wasn't with them anyways) that I had to pay. I asked them to reverse the payment, they declined, so I had my bank reverse it. I called the bank, had them block Avalon on all my cards, and I reported them for fraud at my banker's insistence.
So after all of this, I get a call back from the fraud department that Avalon was using a different business EIC to try and pull my funds, and that my bank had blocked them and were asking if I wanted to keep them blocked. I said yes, and filed a second complaint.
Now today is 20NOV2023, and i'm getting emails, phone calls, and texts about Avalon and their services. I have multiple times unsubscribed from all of these things. I'm getting adds on my Instagram and Facebook despite blocking them, i'm getting mail despite sending back the little card that says "take me off your list".
Do not do business with Avalon unless you dont have any respect for yourself, and dont care that your words and wishes can be disrespected constantly in every format both digital and analog.

BE CAREFUL with this place, I don't recommend it at all.
They offered me a two-week free trial and when I asked if they would charge me a subscription afterwards if I couldn't attend, they told me no. I couldn't and the following weeks they had charged me 59 dollars for the membership, I wrote emails and they only said that this was how it worked. I approached there 4 times to get a response and get my money back, it was difficult and when I went to talk to the manager, I had to wait 30 minutes when I had an appointment.
The answer was you have to use the days that you have been charged for, I went once to give them the opportunity, unfortunate, there was not even a person to see that you are using the machines correctly and the bathroom was not very clean. I thought: I will have to lose my money.
Days later I had a car accident and I sent an email, no one responded. I called to report because after the first experience I did not want ANY SUBSCRIPTION charged to my card again. The receptionist in charge started questioning me why I didn't want to continue, a complete lack of empathy after explaining that I was in a car accident and had fractures. I asked him to confirm that they would not charge me anything more and he did.
Yesterday again I see that they charged my card for a subscription, this is really frustrating and I am not willing to give my money away.
Unfortunately I see that this has happened to other people, it is something that seems to be common and normal.

Going with a personal trainer has dramatically helped me in my fitness journey. I started with being completely intimidated by the gym and not knowing anything about the equipment or exercises. Andrew Heath, my trainer, has been knowledgable, nonjudgmental and extremely helpful. He teaches me how to do new things one day a week. This is important because I learn to do them correctly, so I won't be injured. He gives me assignments on the other days to keep me on track. I am thankful. I highly recommend this service, especially if you are only beginning your fitness journey like me.

They have been stealing money from me for months now. And they can never seem to give a answer as to why your getting billed. They say ill have someone call you and of course you never get the call. Its all games to them but the fun runs out when they keep stealing from the one wrong person.

I’ve been going to Avalon over a year now after looking for a gym I felt could top the normal ones everyone goes to. At the time I had to pick between the newly opened Crunch gym and here and I’m so glad I picked here. Not only is it the biggest gym in Murfreesboro with the most to offer as far as amenities and different types of machines, it is also the biggest. The staff makes you feel like home and I’ll never leave.

After exploring a few different gyms I landed in Avalon by person reference and my experience on my first free visit. I started doing personal training and have enjoyed it. The gym doesn't have a "commercial" feel so I don't feel like I'm being watched while I'm trying to compete my workout. I have brought multiple friends and family and definitely recommend! I had a membership there and if was fine, but i found a better gym called crunch fitness. I went into the office one day at the avalon and cancelled my membership and walked out thinking everything is all good and then a year later i get a call from collections saying i still owed for several months worth of a membership that I didn’t know was still active. That’s one hell of a way to rob somebody.

Have been a member of the Mac/Avalon since 2013.
I called to cancel over the phone and could not.
Emailed them directly and they refuse.
Now they have added two more months to my bill since my initial request and won't cancel anything until I pay the account current.
I've blocked all charges from the vendor from my credit card.
Go somewhere else, these people have no respect or desire to provide customer service.

I’ve been a member for a little under a year now and my experience so far has been great. Great place to work out with any machines I can imagine and play some pickup basketball as well. People are great and encouraging from the staff to even the members. Have suggested this gym to a few others and they’ve had the same experiences as me. They’ve kept added and improving since the first day I’ve been there. Overall would definitely recommend and have loved my experience thus far!

UPDATE: they’ve made FANTASTIC improvements. The basketball court is completely redone, they added new turf areas, got a TON of new equipment and made the layout so much better. It’s an entirely new gym!

I spoke with the new owners today and I'm super excited for the changes they're going to be bringing. Let's face it - the MAC was worn down and a complete maze - it was very confusing to know where things were (when I had a tour a few months ago even the front desk girl got lost). The layout's brutal. Seems like the new owners are going to make it a much newer and better functioning gym! Can't wait!

Dont believe the positive reviews, theyre from employees. It's been over a year since Avalon took over and there have been 0 upgrades. All the new stuff they said was coming isn't there. Only thing I've seen is they've taken equipment and put it in a different room. You charge too much and don't have as much as the other gyms in town.

Avalon offers early morning to late afternoon group fitness classes, personal training, has lots of equipment, and is so big finding your Socially Distant space is no problem at all. Well lit and clean, Avalon is a great place to get your workout in Murfreesboro.

In October and November of 2022 they added a lot of new strength machines, and greatly expanded the floor space by taking down the unused cardio theater room.
