The gym itself is great, but the front desk staff could benefit from more thorough training in customer service and policy communication. I appreciate the inclusive hiring practices, especially the opportunity given to individuals with disabilities. However, it’s essential that all team members are well-versed in the gym’s guest policies and able to communicate them clearly and respectfully.
My wife, who is an active member, attempted to bring me in as a guest on two occasions. Unfortunately, both times we were turned away due to confusion around guest hours and limitations. The staff member was unable to explain the policy in a way that made sense, which led to frustration and wasted time.
I hope the leadership team invests more effort into staff education and public relations so that all members and their guests feel welcomed and informed.

I can’t help but feel frustrated driving 30 minutes to this specific YMCA, only to spend another 30 minutes circling endlessly in search of a parking spot. All because someone decided to hold a Halloween party for the kids here.
Don’t get me wrong— I love children, but who actually pays the membership? Is this a gym or a daycare? And who thought it would be a good idea to schedule such an event on a weekday at 5:00 PM, arguably the busiest time for gyms worldwide? Why not plan it on a weekend—Saturday or Sunday—when the facility is less crowded?
This kind of poor planning creates a significant inconvenience for members like me who come to work out. I’m seriously considering canceling my membership after today.

Hello, I ho
I am truly disappointed with the scheduling of the swim coaches at the YMCA. For two months in a row, I have registered my son without interruption, but many times the classes have been canceled — either because the coach had personal matters or due to the weather.
Unfortunately, I will have to cancel this month because I really don’t have extra time or extra money.
I feel that the management or coaches at the Brentwood branch are handling things this way to push families toward private lessons. This is truly disappointing, as I have not experienced this problem at the Green Hills branch.

Predatory business practice.
Do not let your college kids sign up for this service. The website does not allow you to cancel and they say you have to come in person. I told the woman on the phone that all of my kids were out of state and they couldn't come to cancel in person. She said that is the policy. I said that they stopped using it on Aug 2nd, but they charged me again on Aug 15th.
I asked for the manager's email to email my cancellation. This was ignored. I sent another email which was ignored.
We had to cancel the card that was setup to pay because they still have our account listed as active and we will not let them steal our money again.

I had a terrible experience at this YMCA. Another customer told me I didn’t belong there, clearly because of my race. When the staff got involved , they didn’t do anything to help—in fact, they sided with him and treated me with the same kind of racism. It was humiliating and disgusting. This place clearly doesn’t care about creating a safe or inclusive space. Do better.

I’ll start with the positive- I absolutely LOVE some of the instructors & classes there. Yoga with Jimmy is the best yoga class I’ve ever taken. Jimmy & his wife are lovely bring such positive energy. His class & matt pilates have helped heal my knee pain like nothing else could by slowly improving my strength, flexibility & balance. It’s my go to class to help calm me after a stressful day & is truly healing for the mind & body. Pilates by Barbara & Stacey is also great but class gets filled up very quickly. The facility is nice but does get overcrowded easily. Now to the negatives- 1 star for parking, finding a spot can be horrendous especially on the weekdays after work. Sometimes it’s quicker, sometimes it can take 15-20 mins to find a spot. They’ve expanded parking some but they still need more space. They closed the Maryland Farms Y & another small Y in Brentwood so all of us have moved to the Brentwood Y now, which means they need a lot more space for everyone! Other than that, it’s a great Y.

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience at the Brentwood YMCA. A staff member named Connie was incredibly belittling and condescending when speaking to my kids, who were simply trying to work out using a valid nationwide membership. Instead of welcoming them or helping clarify any confusion, she was rude and dismissive, making them feel as if they weren’t “good enough” to work out there.
It was disheartening to see someone represent the Y, an organization that prides itself on promoting health, well-being, and youth development, act in a way that directly contradicts those values. Connie went as far as claiming my kids weren’t eligible to use the gym, despite the fact that they absolutely were under the nationwide membership policy.
I would not recommend this location, especially for families with young adults or teenagers. There are other YMCA locations in the area that actually live up to the mission of being inclusive, supportive, and focused on wellness for all.

I am a new member here at the Brentwood YMCA, it has been only a few weeks since I joined. Before I decided to take the plunge and sign up, I would drive by the Y almost daily in my routine. The parking lot always looked full, so I assumed that the place was very chaotic and overcrowded. Now that I am a member, I see that I was wrong in so many ways. Allow me to count them for you; first, I have never come at a time when I did not get a great parking spot. Second, I only have to wait a few minutes, if at all, to use any piece of workout equipment or machines. Third, everyone here is so friendly and focused on taking care of their bodies and minds, and they are willing to help you do the same. Finally, the staff here are so welcoming and they do a great job keeping the center clean and ready. The also are quick at providing whatever you may need to achieve your desired goal. Moreover, it now feels like a second home for me, I hate to miss coming a single day but this old body has to rest from workouts now and again. So, do not be intimidated by how it looks from the outside, come on in and join the fun. Rod J.

Only allows guests from 1-5 pm. Aka when everyone else is working. With the reasoning being “well it was overcrowded for our members” Well it’s overcrowded because you closed the Maryland Farms and Christ Church locations for no reason. But sure blame it on too many guests coming.

The facilities are super nice. I haven't even experienced them all. They have so many programs. I worked with a trainer to get me back into the gym and comfortable with everything. I really liked the trainer. With some health issues, I was afraid to get back into the gym and I was a new member and a little intimidated. Monica was amazing and encouraging and now I feel very comfortable and knowledgeable going to the gym and using the equipment. She trained me on multiple machines and exercises and so i have a lot of options in continuing my workouts.

Unlimited group classes, Highly recommend Body pump(Anna), Boot camp(Renne, Angela) , Bosu (Lori) , Baree ( Deena), Zumba( Trina, Sarah), Yoga( all instructor are best), child care( Briacia is very helpful, she helped me a lot when my son had hard time transitioning to their care, there are always room for improvement but I feel welcomed by this Y. What I appreciate most about the Brentwood Y: friendly environment, personal training with Ted, classes (like Zumba with Sybil), and childcare!
Personal training has removed (and continues to remove) the guesswork out of what I need to do. I knew I wanted to lift weights for health, but I didn't know how much, how many times, how to use the machines, etc. My personal trainer Ted made it easy and took all the guesswork out. By having scheduled sessions that are fully planned for me, I do a lot more than I would on my own, plus I actually know what to do. Highly recommend!

I think this is is a very nice facility. However, it seems somewhat disorganized compared to other YMCAs I have visited. On the class schedule, it said there was there supposed to be two lanes available in the indoor pool for lap swimming tonight from 7pm - 9:30pm. However, the lanes were being used for kids' group lessons and were labeled as such. I thought this was a great use and much better than lap swimming in my opinion, but it was a little frustrating that I came expecting to swim laps + the only gym clothing I brought was a swimsuit. I would make sure to keep the schedules updated so that people can plan accordingly.

I recently visited with my two kids and two of their friends, intending to use our guest passes. We understand that guest passes are not allowed after 5 PM, so we decided to sign them up for memberships. Unfortunately, Suzanne at the front desk displayed a poor attitude and unwelcoming body language, making it seem like we were an inconvenience to her. This was very disappointing and not the level of service we expected.

Great place, ever since the skatepark opened, I go skateboarding here as much as I can. Absolutely loving the design of the park. At the same time having all the facilities needed in the building behind, is just a perfect place to skate, make friends and take kids here to learn. I can tell Chris who is running the teen center and skate park put in a lot of efforts and passion into this amazing place, as well as all the skaters kept the park running everyday, I salute you all!
Only one thing I think Y can hear from us skaters, the skate park will close in winter when the temperature is below 40 degrees, I think most skaters won’t mind the temperature, some days when is sunny and bright, a little bit of cold air won’t bother us at all.
Anyway, I highly recommend Brentwood Family Y and the Skatepark as well as the teen center!

Edit several months after originally posting. Took down to 2 stars. Teenagers run wild here and nothing is ever done about it. Gotten way more crowded over the past year along with price increases. I enthusiastically canceled my membership today. The Y used to be a great place but it's really gone downhill since the Maryland Farms Y and Christ Church Y closed.
Really poor use of space post renovation, there is a ton of space inside the building that could be put to better use. There used to be more whirlpools / saunas pre-renovation, now after the fact there are fewer even though two other YMCA's in Brentwood have closed (Maryland Farms) or will close (Christ Church). So since those areas are now in the pool area, they have to close along with the pool in case of lightning outside, while prior they were attached to locker rooms. Too often there are kids with no business being in the fitness center taking up space and fooling around. The fitness center isn't big enough to serve as a consolidation of 3 Y's into 1, even if they had data that says the vast majority of the people at the other Y's in Brentwood primarily go to a different one anyway. What used to be the main entrance is now a ghost town...there used to be a nice sitting area there with coffee, newspapers, etc., but now it's just empty space save for a few vending machines. There is another one though but it's surrounded by "community rooms" and a "kitchen" neither of which serve any obvious purpose. Overall though it is an OK value for the price, it's better than the Williamson County Rec Center, and the Y is lucky that there's no real competition in Brentwood like an LA Fitness, Lifetime, or Gold's Gym.

If I could give you 0 stars I would. This place was newly renovated and poorly planned. The sauna for one is far too small. 22 people in there during rush hour on any given night. There is a drainage issue, so the sweat which turns into a black liquid constantly pools on the tile. The steam room seems like it’s never cleaned either. Constant buildup of hair and I don’t know what builds up around the vents and drain. Again poor drainage. The fact that people can be barefoot in either is a heath hazard. The gym floor is poorly checked. Employees always talking with each other or folding towels and not one of them walks around to check people on their phones. Im there to workout, not wait on people scrolling instagram. The scale in the locker room is always broken. The phone in the locker room is constantly broken. The lockers in the locker room are not maintained and even if you put your correct code in, multiple times I’ve seen people not able to gain access to their belongings. Last part is the water fountains; they’re always broken or the filter is out. How hard is it to maintain a gym that people pay good money for, has great revenue I’m sure, and is in Brentwood of all places. I haven’t been anywhere else in that gym but I’m sure there are countless other problems. The people in charge need to evaluate these issues or be fired.

Major overcrowding problem. They should have accounted for this when they decided to close down Maryland Farms. Instead, they have a million group fitness studios when more gym floor space was desperately needed. That was a poor decision and poor planning.

I recently visited the skatepark at this YMCA and let me tell you, it is the best skatepark that the Nashville area has ever had.
Corey and Chris are very accommodating and inviting to all ages.
I noticed that they will not have the park open in the colder months. I hope they change that because skateboarders enjoy skating in all types of climates! Keep the park open in the winter!
Looking forward to my next visit!

Very disappointed with my experience. I recently joined this YMCA and was excited.

The new skatepark is so sick! But the hours need to be better! If it’s dry outside we should be allowed to shred! Skateboarding in the cold is my absolute favorite. The summers get too hot so winter is when I get to bundle up and skate for more than 20 mins without the humidity and sunburn.

I've never left a Google review before but wanted to give honor where honor was due.
I live in Bellevue and tonight was my first time visiting the Brentwood location.
The roads were super icy so I asked for directions on the safest way home as my car isn't the best in these conditions.
One of the men at the front desk (Andrew? If I remember correctly) went above and beyond.
He wrote down directions on a sticky note and helped program my gps with 4 "stops" to take me the safest way (as the routes it was offering he didn't recommend.) My husband and I moved from out of state and do not know this area well at all yet.
So, so incredibly kind! Thank you for your patience!
Also--the pool and sauna is open until 9:30 on week days. Such a blessing!
Thank you, Brentwood YMCA!

TLDR; this Y has a no guest rule after 5pm and doesn’t allow you to purchase a day pass. That policy combo is illogical, esp for a place that prides itself on inclusivity and making people feel welcome.
A friend of mine who lives in Nashville and was considering a membership drove across town to this YMCA to meet me for a workout. I am a member and got my parents to drop me off because we share one car when I’m home for Christmas.
I was told by whoever was at the front desk tonight that the YMCA doesn’t allow guests after 5pm, period. So my friend and I were like "oh, no worries, can we just buy a day pass then or pay whatever it costs because we didn’t know about this rule." We were given a hard no and a long stare.
Super strange…and also just not logical, like what does this policy accomplish? Okay, you get only paying members after 5pm as a form of crowd control…I can get on board with that. But then let people buy day passes since that way they are paying members for the day. At least as a one time thing for exactly when this situation happens: a member who doesn’t know the rule meets someone at this YMCA. I don’t get what this rule did other than make my friend drive across town for no reason and make me feel not welcome even though I am a member.
If the issue is truly overcrowding, then keep the main room with free weights and machines open 24/7 and offer pricier memberships with 24/7 access, that way people can go at all times and you’ve created more jobs, maybe for someone who needs a night shift schedule.
The YMCA staff have always made me feel welcome and like they will help me with whatever I need until tonight. Super weird energy for no reason from the front desk. The only saving grace was another staff member giving us a tour after my friend asked.
My recommendation: allow people to purchase a day pass when a member brings a guest accidentally after 5pm.
Don’t make potential members waste a drive across town and not get a workout in when they’ve made the time to. A day pass would also make the YMCA more money, which it can use to maintain its facilities and pay its staff more.
Also, for even extra context, it was 8:30/9pm with not that many people when we were in there.
Aside from this experience, I love the Y lol.

The YMCA is a great facility, but I’ve noticed a few issues that need attention. The gym is often overcrowded, especially during peak hours, making it difficult to access equipment. Parking is also a major problem, with limited spaces available, which adds to the frustration.
Additionally, I’ve seen very young kids, around 8-10 years old, in the gym area. While I understand the YMCA promotes family-friendly activities, having children in the gym raises safety concerns and can be distracting.
I hope these issues can be addressed to improve the overall experience for members.

The fact that a YMCA has a policy against bringing guests is ridiculous. Do you think a few family members from out of town are going to make the overcrowding issue worse?
It’s going to be an issue regardless since Brentwood lost an entire YMCA. Letting members bring guests would go a lot further in goodwill.

Was contacted by the assistant director via email on why I left a two star review. After I took the time to email her back my frustrations about the Concord Rd YMCA, she never responded, and I ended up cancelling my membership. I would still be a member if she would have listened to my concerns instead of ignoring them. Been part of the Y for many years and hate it ended this way. Would NOT recommend hoping the Y at Concord road.

Nice facility but over crowded and arbitrary hours without notification or posting online. The nice new pool they built isn’t worth it cause you never know if it will actually be open or not.

The Y in Brentwood is a great place for some summer fun. It has 2 lap swimming pools, one outdoors alongside a set of slides and regular pools, and one lap pool inside. The basketball courts, though we're a bit of a letdown. They are dusty, and the lighting is not the greatest for shooting. There is a lounge area with lots of tables and 2 vending machines as well, though. The gym is small, though, but has an outdoor workout area. The outside looks very nice and refinished. However, you can tell the inside is worn and older.

Overcrowded with not enough weights and machines for the members. The sauna is closed if there’s thunder outside. Everyone wants to work in with you or asks how many sets you have left despite there being countless other exercises that work the same muscle groups. The sad reality is the Nashville area is absolutely starved for decent gyms. Most major cities you can find 5 or more gyms with all the same amenities the YMCA has within 3-5 mile radius. Here; you better be willing to drive 12-17 miles down the road just to find a similar set up. There’s no where else to go unfortunately.

Drove 40 minutes north to meet a buddy and workout who had gotten me a guest pass a few days prior at another YMCA. The woman at the desk informs us the Brentwood YMCA doesn’t allow guest passes. Proceeded to be rude about the entire thing. I asked if there was any way I could pay for a day pass or pay for a month and she told me there would be a wait to sign up and that I may need to come back later that day. Anyway, just terrible costumer service and the Y just lost a family membership as I was planning on changing my current membership. I do not recommend the YMCA especially the Brentwood location. Yes it’s nice but the people working there suck.

It is always clean and there is a good amount of equipment even though this place is always packed with people. my favorite parts are the basketball court, outdoor pool and the running track outdoors in the woods. I love this place!

Truly the most disappointing and poorly run Y facility I have ever been to. I was a lifelong member of Maryland Farms and cannot believe how much they downgraded with this “renovation” and merge of facilities. The indoor pool is a fish bowl and never has any open lanes, nothing like Maryland farms pools were. The layout is horrendous and I truly dread having to go into the weight room. It’s microscopic and overrun by young children fooling around and staff is nowhere in sight.

Incredibly disappointed in this Y. The weight room is way too small and it’s like every middle school in middle Tennessee decided to take their kids on a field trip to the Y. I’ve left every workout early because every bench/machine is taken. If you want to take your family to a water park this Y is great. If you’re trying to workout go to the Green Hills Y (it blows this one out of the water).

Super-crowded. YMCA shut down 2 YMCA facilities and built this facility much bigger to accommodate more people.
Well , it was bad decision based on poor leadership.

Bumping my review down to 3 stars because the hot tub is always closed and the sauna is too small for a facility this size. If you're looking forward to using the hot tub, call before you go and make sure it's open. I can't believe they renovated this space and didn't do any real work on the most appreciated Y amenities like the hot tub and sauna. Overall usually very crowded at this Y even if you go early.

Employees are always nice however I miss the Maryland farms gym. They did not think over the combining 2 locations. It’s absolutely to crowded in the weight room. Plus kids congregate on one machine for long periods of time. Take back the Maryland farms location they not using it for anything but tennis.

Always busy. Not enough room and you will get jumped in line waiting by high school kids. This y will never be able to take in all of the people now that Maryland farms is closed. Every single area you go you are packed in like sardines. The sauna is unusable because there are too many people. The new weight room is nice if you can ever get the chance to use it. If this place was open for 24 hours, it would be just as packed. There is literally never a time this place is not packed to the brim.

After the Maryland farms location closed this location has been a joke. Always crowded from the minute they open until the minute they close. Impossible to use the sauna unless you want to stand crowded together with 12+ other people sweating on each other since the capacity of 4 saunas (Maryland farms and Brentwood male and female) is now crammed into an even smaller space than one of those before since it is co-ed. Would not recommend.

YMCA should be ashamed of their staff here. Very racist towards minorities and people of color. Have never been to a place where you are greeted with “Hey you guys don’t belong here”. Take off your name tag and bring yourself back to earth your human just like everyone else. Just because you are an employee of the business and work behind the counter does and where a blue shirt, it does not give you the right to be judgmental towards your customers. This place needs to have their management team swept clean. Very unprofessional and this will definitely be addressed to corporate. Do not recommend this location to anyone, I guess unless your American and your wealthy then you belong here….

I’ve been going for two weeks now and was immediately struck by how friendly all the staff were, from the people at the front desk, those cleaning the facilities, to the instructors. Love the emphasis on scripture throughout and the variety of group classes offered. The coffee and sitting areas are a nice touch. So far it’s been a great experience and I appreciate the effort by all the staff.

Well I expected a better childcare after the renovation. This is the third day in the last week that I come here and I've had to wait for the childcare to have room for my kids! They have a paper and pen outside for you to write your name in a waiting list. Once it took them 25 minutes to accept my 6 month old.
Also, I saw a baby crying for a while, he was 6-7 months. The lady kept telling him " Mommy is coming" while walking around!! No picking up or something.
This is not cool!

Everyone is so disappointed with the renovation. There is no way the new Brentwood Y has enough room to absorb the Maryland Farms members since it's closing. They went from five hot tubs at both Ys to one. They went from four steam rooms and four saunas to one each. They decreased the amount of pool space by half. The most significant issue is the poor planning in the construction. They have a brand new sauna that was designed so that the steam coming out will burn people's legs. The Y's solution: duct tape some traffic cones around it and screw a wire basket with a taped-on sign (photos included). In the men's locker room, there are dips in the floor to where inch-deep water pools gather. That's nice to walk through. People are unhappy with the lack of space in the weight lifting area, though several meeting rooms are now never used. Another complaint I often hear is that there's no suggestion box, and the management is hidden away behind locked doors. Totally inaccessible. Lastly, the indoor pool is small and completely surrounded by concrete and steel walls and ceiling yet the high school-age lifeguards are allowed to blast music from a stereo. I've seen people try to call them and get their attention, and they don't even hear them because of the loud music bouncing around. That is a terrible safety issue when lifeguards can't hear people calling for them. The mountain of stairs and steep ramp up to the front door certainly excludes older people and people with disabilities. I'm sure it meets codes but I'd be scared to take a wheel chair down that tall ramp. The merger of the Maryland Farms Y with the Brentwood Y wasn't thought out, the renovation was poorly planned, and the management isn't doing its job.

I developed hot tub folliculitis the next day after spending 50 minutes in the pool and 15 minutes in the whirlpool. I have countless tender red bumps all over my belly and back. Called the center and was transferred to the voicemail. Sent an email and got no response. I am a healthy adult who has never contracted hot tub folliculitis elsewhere, and I used to swim laps and use whirlpools for years before moving to TN. I cannot believe how dirty and poorly maintained their pool and whirlpools must be. I assume that in all Ys the water would be regularly tested, but apparently not at this one.

This review is strictly for Jennifer Broadbridge!!!! I finally after all these years decided to overcome my fear of swimming and take lessons. Today we had Jennifer and WOOOOOOOOOOW!!!! In 45 min I learned how to float and swim on my back. I am crying as I type this. She is an incredible instructor!! It’s hard to teach a person like me who doesn’t know how to relax and has struggled with anxiety. She made me feel safe in the water and answered every little question I had even if it was stupid. Lol Her demonstrations are soooo helpful.!! She teaches in a way that you truly understand. She’s so patient and friendly as well! I love her!! I wish I could give her 10 stars!!!!!! Thank you Jennifer!!!!! 🤎
