I used to go at Greenhills YMCA, then transferred here since first day it opened. Never have I ever receive this kind of treatment in all other ymca’s Ive been even when I am traveling out of state. 8/10 Eveytime I entered the parking lot, this specific Parking staff always shouted at me and goes running limping towards me aggressively whenever he can’t clearly see my Parking pass since my car is tinted. Like why would you be so aggressive? You can just wave at me then I’ll will stop or just checked the car once I parked it. Let’s say what if a visitor from out of state wants to use the gym but he doesn’t have a parking pass and will just buy it once he get inside the building at the front desk? Is that not allowed that’s why this specifc parking staff needs to aggressively shout at people and walks towards them aggressively and stopping them EVERYTIME? He also won’t let me go to the upper parking lot, the one on the right side just right when you get in the parking lot even though there’s 4-5 spots available and NO, there’s no cones on those spots! He is giving people hard time by being rude to them, like these people who’s paying $60+ monthly to use the gym, have a healthy and peaceful workout but you right when they’re only about to start their thing, you are already ruining their day! TODAY IS TUESDAY NOV 18, 2025. The parking staff I believe is African American, he is limping when walking, maybe 50’s. I was here in the morning 9am-11am

I’ve been a member for about a year, and this was my first time visiting this center. I came here with my friend, who is visiting from another state. We were stuck in traffic for an hour on our way here. When we arrived, the staff told us that no guests are allowed after 3 p.m.
We politely explained that we didn’t know about this rule, and that my friend had come from out of state. We asked if they could make an exception just this one time and promised to come before 3 p.m. in the future. However, even though the place wasn’t busy, they still refused to let us in.
What made things worse was that my friend needed to use the restroom, and even then, they didn’t allow him to use it. Treating both a member and their guest this way was extremely rude and unacceptable.

So disappointed!!! They're so caught up in the ways of Covid! Still terrified!! Wake up! Absolutely disgusting that they would not accommodate an outside traveler to pay a daily rate (even heavily inflated).

We were visiting from Houston (nationwide membership) and the Downtown Y staff couldn’t have been more accommodating, engaging + cheerful (lookin’ at you, Ginny!) On top of that, the facility is awesome. Numerous equipment options, clean and spacious. Well-deserved 5-stars!

Unreasonable guest policy. As a nationwide member, I’ve been able to bring a guest to several YMCA across the country but this one doesn’t allow nationwide members to bring guests. Doesn’t make any sense and very frustrating

Worst YMCA that I have been to in any city. Travel for work, and many gyms will have a day or week guest pass that you can purchase. This YMCA wanted $150 for a month pass. If this gym has non-profit status, it clearly needs to be revoked.

Whoever runs this YMCA is an absolute disgrace to the community. When you sign up, they’ll tell you about all of the guest passes you get, then as soon as you try to bring a guest, they’ll tell you they aren’t allowed during the week from 3P.M.- 9P.M. This takes up the entire allotment of hours that anyone with a normal 9-5 job is able to work out. You ripped me off on that alone.
Outside of that, the facility is overstaffed with staff members that are seemingly doing nothing. They don’t always verbally greet you when you walk in or out like I did when I worked at the gym as a 15 year old, they seem to rush you if you’re not 100% ready to scan your pass when you walk through the door (visibly returning to whatever school work or task they’re doing on the company computer), and there is a rule that you cannot “hang out” in the lobby for more than 3 hours. Whoever typed that rule, printed it, and slipped it into a plastic display, just take a second, read what you wrote, and then stare in the mirror for 3 hours and ask yourself why you hate people using the space they paid for. The main gym floor where you workout has an attendant who stands at a podium by the door on their phone for the entirety of your workout. They’ll come over and enforce the rules (can’t deadlift with your socks on without shoes like so many serious lifters enjoy), but never re-organize the weights or wipe down the equipment (you’re expected to carry a spray bottle and towel everywhere and put the weights back wherever you can find a spot for them). The gym closes at 9P.M. on the weekdays and 5P.M. on Sundays. If you do enjoy lifting late, the entire time you workout from 8-9P.M. is ruined with extremely loud announcements every 15 minutes over the PA system telling you to exit the building as soon as possible, as well as the staff literally circling around the equipment you are using, ready to clean it so they don’t have to stay more than one minute past their shift. On top of all of this, the basketball court area is run using zero logic whatsoever. The court is reserved for pickleball and group fitness activities at certain times, which is obviously fair so that all types of people can use the area, but they’ll kick everyone out who is playing basketball even if there are 30 young people there who could be out getting drunk instead, like most people their age. It doesn’t matter if there is no one there to play pickleball (since very few people want to do this at night on a weekday). There is no possibility of sharing the court or using it until someone does show up. No flexibility, no human feeling from the staff when they kick you out. Every worker is extremely happy to kick you out besides literally one staff member who was understanding in my year of being a member. To top things off, the manager is NEVER anywhere to be found when I have asked to speak with them about these ridiculous rules and robotic enforcement. I have asked multiple times to speak with a manager, not as a Karen, but as someone who sees glaring issues that I would like to tell you about. Each time, I have either been stymied by the rude worker who volunteers to re-explain the rule I don’t agree with, or handed a business card. Notice that until now, I didn’t even mention the most glaring issue: the parking system. It simply does not work and leaves a traffic jam through Nashville, as well as adding 30 minutes of waiting to your workout. Obviously this is a complicated issue to fix, but nothing is being done to encourage people not to park there, or ameliorate the issue in any way. I had to start running to the gym instead.
To the District Executive Director, thanks for the business card bro! It was a pleasure NEVER seeing you in your facility, and I am so glad you made the decision to leave this review and your baby fitness center for good as easy as possible. Also, please don’t reply to me using some basic CHATGPT response like you did for all the other one-star reviews. Just maybe stop being a detached, mindless rule maker who can’t speak to their paying customers.

It looks nice from the outside. We got in and parked no problem. I got to the front desk with a friend of mine who is a member and I was a guest. They told us that they don’t allow guest passes nor do they have one day passes. That’s really unfortunate. It’ll likely play a part in whether I decide to ever join a YMCA in the future.

Absolutely love that the downtown YMCA is clean, new, and fully stocked with great equipment. I also don’t have to deal with the parking chaos because I go during off-peak hours—huge win.
But here’s the dealbreaker: the cell phone use in the workout areas is out of control. There are signs everywhere saying no phone calls, yet no one enforces it. I’m talking full-on FaceTime calls on treadmills, people chatting loudly on speaker in the weight room—it’s beyond disrespectful, and it ruins the experience. I shouldn’t have to crank my headphones to drown out someone’s conversation while I’m trying to focus.
It’s frustrating that the staff doesn’t step in, because it’s clearly a known issue. If this one thing were taken seriously, this gym would be near perfect. Until then, be ready to get an earful of someone’s personal drama while you’re trying to hit your stride.

Nice facility, but can’t police how many outside personal trainers bring in clients and train them on the floor. I assume this is a big liability and it’s just tacky that the Y can’t pull in their own clients.

I loved this location but after the construction, it’s a NIGHTMARE to park and get in a workout. Morning or evening. The parking situation throws off your entire day, even if you get there early. There’s hardly any information on where the overflow parking is and how to get to it. I also think the street parking should be owned by the Y during peak hours. Time for a change please…

I really like this Y location - great size, nice front desk staff, and communicates well given all the construction happening around it. Even when it’s packed parking isn’t really an issue, and there’s lots of equipment to choose from. My only complaint is there used to be a really friendly parking attendant - smiling, always greeting and keeping an eye on things. The new main parking attendant is consistently rude, not good at directing people when traffic in and out gets heavy, and seems overall to just not enjoy her job. I know everyone has bad days but it sets the tone of entering the gym and the previous attendant was much friendlier.

This location is not it. Out of Downtown, Bellevue, and GH this ranks last place.
The least amount of equipment.
The least amount of floor space.
The least upgraded location.
The least amount of parking.
The least friendly staff.
The least attentive staff.
The least easy to access.
The most amount of money per month.
Make it make sense. I wish I had the level of audacity this location has.

Pay $100 to be a member. Pay an additional $5 every time you park or a $9 extra parking pass to park at a parking lot OWNED BY THE YMCA that I pay to be a member of. Facilities are decent but the nickle and diming you make you just want to join a different gym. I will once I no longer need child care.

I don’t understand why the gym charges it’s members additional 10 dollars for parking when members already pay their monthly dues. Just doesn’t seem fair to the customer and is surely taking advantage of the fact this gym is centrally located.

This is the second year my daughter has been going to Fun Company after school. The teachers watching them after school are great. The customer service department on the other hand, is not. I had my account on automatic draft for 1.5 years. Until I lost my job, and I was trying to remove it to pay it manually. I tried for over a month. No way to remove auto draft online. The teachers at the school did not have the option either. The google number is outdated, no longer in service. I emailed, with no response, and submitted online tickets that whole time. Within that time frame, they started new rule, if auto draft fails there is a $25 fee.
I called them and asked for that fee to be removed since I have been on auto draft this whole time and I have been trying to get it removed with no response. They refused to remove it. They didn't reply for over a month to get my auto draft removed, and then refuse to help with the return fee they accessed to me because the auto draft got declined when I knew it would. I was informed to get with Margaret Harris and then she avoided every single email.
They are great with watching the kids, but when it comes to paying and how hard it is to get in touch with them. I would not recommend having your account on auto pay.

My dear family of YMCA , let me Introduce myself I’m a Dance & Fitness Coach who always visit the installations for keep myself training and dancing by using the dance room
Specially when is free like many members who want to stretch etc. Yesterday Thursday 27 JULY I had an uncomfortable experience , while I was using the dance room with another people inside , a “Instructor called “KIM” she open the door and started screaming to us the: “WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE ROOM , IS ONLY FOR INSTRUCTORS, YOU NEED TO GO OUT , while she was keeping telling us to get out I stopped her and ask to please introduce herself because ME as a PROFESSIONAL I have ways to treat people specially if is in my work place , this instructor didn’t have the manners to do it so I was wondering if she really was an ymca Instructor because of her rude approach to us. I’m very sad for this situation and I’m sure the I don’t want to come back to this YMCA. This happened around 8 PM .

While I'm sure what is left of the Ymca at this location is fine but,, there is no pool at This Location. This information would have been more helpful before we walked a mile and a half there... and back in 90+ degree heat. The photos are still on their website for Pools that no longer exist. It would be helpful and more accurate to remove those photos so you don't mislead people in the future. Eric T. Hogan

Although the facilities itself are nice, I’ve had bad luck with other services. The aquatics coordinator was terribly unprofessional a few years back when I was trying to schedule swim lessons—taking my money as a deposit, slow to respond to emails and then just scheduling me for lessons in the middle of the day (when I work full time) without checking with me first. She was very difficult to work with and very unprofessional. And now, I’ve submitted a personal training request and was told I would hear from someone within 1-2 business days. A week later—nada.

I was greeted kindly and offered a tour. I was given the full explanation of membership options and told how to join. Joining the club has been a great experience at the downtown location and looking forward to using the other local Y's, as part of our membership. The cardio, weights, gyms and pools, are all available, clean, and open during the hours my family and I need. The parking during busy hours is a slight challenge but the staff has done a nice job of directing members to the overflow lot, which is easily accessible. I would highly recommend the Y!

When you buy a membership you get access to all the YMCAs in Middle TN for only $40 bucks. You really can't beat that.
Oh, and they have an awesome steam room, pool, sauna, and well equipped weight room and other stuff I haven't explored.

It’s a nice gym... but for 700,000+ population there needs to be more squat racks, cable setups, and weight equipment in general. You will spend a lot of time wasted standing around waiting to do a certain exercise or skipping it entirely unless you want to hover and annoy someone or be annoyed by someone hovering because there isn’t enough equipment. If you like cardio, get after it because there is dozens and dozens of cardio machines. Not the best Y set up I’ve seen, but what they do have is of good quality. Overall, a disappointing gym though.

Outstanding operation, definitely not what you would expect from a YMCA.

The downtown YMCA is fantastic- the equipment is regularly updated and the facility is clean, bright and open. The group fitness class schedule is pretty extensive and they often try new options, to keep it fresh. Love this place!

I swim 3-4 times a week & love the Downtown Y. The pool & dressing rooms & showers are spotless & I enjoy the ‘adult’ nature of this Y. It’s my kind of facility! Great job!

I absolutely love the Y. I was intimidated at first but now it feels like a second home. The staff are so incredibly kind and helpful. I've tried classes and have always had a great experience. There is a wide variety of equipment an it always feel kept up well. They have done a wonderful job making the gym feel safe and clean during the Covid-19 pandemic. If you're looking for a gym where you feel comfortable, accepted, and pushed to do you best, the Y is for you!

This is hands down the best YMCA I've been to. The building is obviously pretty old, but other than that this is a top notch facility. Reminds me of my University gym, all you're missing is a rock wall. Great to work into your routine if you're a downtown worker, you can even get your shoes shined here!

By far the best gym while I was visiting. Has all the equipments and machines you need to get a great workout not to mention the amenities to enjoy afterwards. Cheap day passes too along with professional staff. Definitely recommend this gym to anyone that's close to downtown or visiting Nashville.

Very overrated, and always overcrowded, regardless of what time of day you go.
To make it worse, you pay extra for the privilege of parking in their covered garage.
However, in both the afternoon and evening, the garage is always full. As is the overflow parking lot 75% of the time.
They purposely promote and push the covered garage parking, knowing full well that there's not enough room to accommodate the passes they are selling.
You generally have to wait in a line, for a lengthy amount time to use the equipment as it is always in use.
Aa far as the pool goes, apparently the rooftop heated pool is closed beginning in September.
And the indoor pool is nowhere near big enough to accommodate the sheer amount of people who want to use it.
This place is definitely not worth the price you have to pay to go to it. It causes too many frustrations trying to get in and use anything.
