My favorite gym I’ve ever been a member of, and I’ve been a member of a lot.

Staff is super friendly, love the outdoor space, when it’s nice enough out they open their huge garage doors and it’s an open air gym at that point, wonderful.

Equipment is not new, but it all works. Layout is great.

Over all vibe, it just feels like a spot! And I love that.

Staff is super friendly and helpful.

Other gun goers are also very friendly, never had a problem, made a lot of gym friends.

Great gym! Plenty of options in Nashville but this is an outstanding mix of plenty of equipment and not too crowded. My visit was during the AM (pre-work hours) and still did not wait for equipment once during my two-hour session. They have an outdoor area plus multiple expansive rooms of weights and cardio indoors. Just bring a lock and they have plenty of lockers to use during your visit plus showers if needed. Highly recommend!

I love how Gym 5 has such a versatile, accommodating & convenient layout for all kinds of training styles!! They have a mom and pop kind of feel and provide great equipment, machines, free-weights, Olympic platforms and an outdoor CrossFit/Turf setup for outdoor training sessions. You simply cannot beat what they have to offer anywhere in Nashville!!! I mean that and I would know. Their pricing, considering their accommodations, is also very fair. Do yourself a favor and drop by!!! Love this place!!! A plus is their space for boxing/martial arts and Yoga and their upstairs cardio equipment and stretching rack!!!! Just go!!

Was a member here for 3 years and it took leaving and moving to Chicago to realize how elite this place really was. Nothing flashy but it didn’t need that at all. A bunch of no nonsense folks looking to better themselves inside of a great gym community. On gym #2 in Chicago and simply nothing compares. I will miss this place dearly! Do yourself a favor and go check it out.

Gym 5 was fantastic - I went for just over a month and loved it. I had every intention of signing up long-term, but unfortunately relocated to a spot too far away to make it practical. The equipment was great, parking was easy (an under-appreciated perk in the Nashville gym community), and staff was awesome (special shoutout to Daniel and Lina). Highly recommend to anyone looking for a gym in the area.

Google Review for Gym 5:

***My biggest concern is the persistent sewage smell in the back section of the gym, likely due to plumbing issues. It’s not only unpleasant and but could pose health risks and safety concern. I noticed I would get a headache if I’m in that area too long. I hope owner of the gym addresses this problem soon.***

I’ve been going to Gym 5 for almost a year. It’s a solid old-school gym with older, rusty equipment, which is fine for the $55/month membership. The outdoor workout space is a cool feature but could use some cleaning up. The cleanliness overall seems to be an issue, possibly because the big windows are occasionally open.

Best gym in Nashville, I would have never left this place if I didn’t move. Great people in the gym; && if you’re looking for a trainer in Nashville make sure you talk with Daniel C. I learned more from a few 5 minute conversations with him than any other resource over the past couple years.

We got a day pass here while on vacation- front desk staff was very helpful and showed us around. Nice equipment but if you go during the day the sun beams down pretty hard on the benches so be prepared to sweat a little extra.

Gym equipment is serviceable and the vibe inside was nice. Not too crowded and was able to get in a descent work out while being in town for the day. The reason for 2 stars is the rude person working the front desk. Was extremely bothered to answer a couple simple questions. For that reason I won’t be back. Place could be great if they could find some friendly people to run it.

Gym 5 is just the all-around best. It's an environment that balances a place where people take their fitness seriously, but without ever feeling pressured or unwelcoming. It's somehow still very relaxed and friendly to be there, every time. And the staff are always polite and helpful. Wouldn't consider going anywhere else.

Went to this gym consistently for several years, and I’d still be going if it wasn’t for an injury. Staff and regulars are lovely, special shout out to Beatrice who I did personal training with weekly. She truly cares for her clients and helping them achieve their desired results. The occasional dog running around and Taylor’s homemade cookies for sale gives this gym character. Big fans!

β˜… 1

Staff is unprofessional and rude. I was out of town leading up to Christmas. I came in on the 26th. Beatrice, also a personal trainer, rudely stated that the gym closes at 8pm instead of 9pm, their standard operating hours. When I asked if they sent an email out, she said that there is a sign on the front desk and that I'd have to enjoy a 40 minute workout. I asked, aside from being clairvoyant, how I was supposed to know that. She said it wasn't her problem. This experience has convinced me to cancel my membership. I would also recommend doing personal training with Beatrice given her disposition. It seems like ownership is more concerned about the dogs they let roam around the gym than their membership.

β˜… 5

Great gym and environment. Don't go if you don't like following a lot of their rules, such as carrying your gym bag around, but this element is what makes it a great space to train. They have all the equipment you could ask for, other than oly lifting, but I think that's kind of on purpose. I personally had a great experience, but I could see some people liking a more old-school environment with chalk everywhere, or a place that welcomes the ego-lifting shenanigans and therefore being turned off by the vibe they created here. But definitely check it out. I loved the place.

I got really lucky with the location,it was within walking distance of our hotel. Not bashing..It was an average gym.. not the most or eclectic equipment.Basic line of hammer strength equipment but not the full line.Plenty of cables & squat racks.
Plastic weight though...feels more like a fitness gym.
Gym was spacious in areas, very clean, paper towels and disinfectant spray all around&never had to wait for equipment.I have been in way tighter gyms. Also has an up stairs for the cardio equipment. All n All its a basic gym where you can get it in.
My complaint is got charged $15 for day pass.

Very dirty gym. Water fountains covered in crud, bathrooms stink and dirty, dirt and dust everywhere. Mirrors have crud on them. I’ve never seen one staff member clean while there. They bring their dogs and they’re in the way. They urinate in the outside gym-which all you can smell is old urine. Old ripped and broken equipment. The staff is to be desired,
Not that welcoming. Hardly anyone at the front to greet you. I walked in one day and saw a sign at the front desk to remind members to wear deodorant. It wasn’t a polite sign fyi. You can’t clean your own filthy gym but you’re going to humiliate people to wear deodorant?!

They got too comfortable with really being the only space in East. There’s a brand new state of the art gym coming in to East. They should clean up their act and add some equipment and repair what they have, or it’s going to be to late.

Great place to work out, hit weights and affordable. They definitely don’t limit the memberships, always packed and you’ll be lucky to keep momentum as you will be waiting for others to finish up.

The parking is a nightmare, people park on the sidewalk which is a good indicator that the place is full.

Overall, it’s a good spot for me and there aren’t any other gyms nearby besides the YMCA on Gallatin; which is not the best.

I really enjoy working out here, and look forward to my mornings of intentional suffering. People are friendly and respectful of one another and of the equipment during the time of day that I visit, too, which is a huge plus. Gym 5 has a good culture and that goes a long way to my own satisfaction.

Why 4 stars tho? The equipment could do with more frequent maintenance/tune ups (busted pulleys and binding on weight stack rails on some machines, rope handles that are precariously frayed, etc), the locker rooms (toilets and showers) could be improved, and group circuit training classes could do with their own space. At the moment, those take place in the main gym area and cause a lot of congestion when they are in session.

Signed up 7 years ago my first week I moved to Nashville. They're always investing in themselves and adding new equipment. It gets pretty busy, but if the weather is nice you can kill some time in the outdoor area where it's usually less busy. This place has literally everything you need and then some.

My only complaint is sometimes it takes them awhile to replace cables/grips on machines, like a few months. It's annoying to do an exercise and have the resistance jump because an exposed cable snags on a wheel. (At the time of this review there's nothing in particular in this condition)

Great diversity of equipment and classes, and they're constantly upgrading. It's a little cramped, but that's what you'd expect for a gym in the heart of East Nashville. More expensive than a big box gym, but they're also no-contract, and they'll let you pause your membership if you can't make it in for a while.

This gym doesn’t let you cancel your membership in person and makes you go cancel by email but provides no feedback or confirmation of you trying to cancel. Charges your credit card anyways. A great gym that gets better and better! Generally, if a workout facility or fitness center stays the same, as far as equipment goes, they are ahead of the game. Awesome local gym with all the equipment you'll need. Really cool grungy vibe, but everyone there was really nice. My wife and I dropped in for the day and really enjoyed working out there!

Great!

I ducked in here randomly, while visiting the city on business, and my experience proved quite positive. Gym5 had everything: a full range of good, quality machines and racks, and the necessary compliment of free weights; a whole room of cardio equipment and mats (and punching bags!); extras such as tanning beds and snacks and what-have-you. The floor was clean and comfortable, as was the men's locker room. Also, the attendant who sold me my (reasonably priced) daypass was friendly and available. In the end, it all contributed to my having a good workout, such that I had to come back the next day and do it all over again :D

Big thanks to everyone here, for providing a place for me to lift weights and destress. Keep up the good work.

Equipment is all older and very outdated. Some machines don't ever have grip pads so you are literally just holding the bar where the pad used to be. Barbells feel like they are coming apart when you set them down. Dumbells are old and takes you a few seconds to find the ones you want (if they even have the ones you want). Straps broken on row machine. Screen doesn't work on bike. Don't even have 35lb weights so you have to only use 10,25, & 45---and there aren't a ton of those so on busy days you can barely find weights. They keep the radio in the gym incredibly low so bring headphones or it's hard to really get into the workout. Just not at all what I expected for the "nicer gym in East nashville" to be when I'm paying $40/month.

I like the gym very much. The equipment is adequate and it works. Staff is great. My only concern is it's hours. They have banker's hours. They open at 9 & 10 on Saturday & Sunday.

They close at 5 on Saturday, 4 on Sunday.

Come on!

This is exactly the kind of gym I love. Great strength training section/equipment, only about 5-7 people in when I go at 6:30 am, and the showers are clean and spacious.

Reasonably priced and it has all the basics plus some good classes. Never too crowded. If it had a dry sauna and offered the Hip Hop spin class more often, it would be perfect.

Has everything I need. No frills, clean, good equipment, staff is great. Best part, they're never too crowded so I don't have to wait for equipment. I wish they were open a little later on the weekends, though.

Figured I'd put a review on here since most of them are old. It's pretty nice here. This is the only gym I've been to in Nashville (besides a couple of YMCA's), so that take that for what it's worth. I primarily focus on power-lifting style lifting (mostly barbell and squat rack), though I would hardly call myself a power lifter. They recently got a power rack to add to the squat rack, which is nice. I don't have much experience with the machines, but they seem to get the job done from what I've seen despite looking a little older. Staff is friendly and it's hardly ever that crowded apart from the typical 5pm-6:30pm time slot. There is a decent (maybe 8?) amount of treadmills (only go up to 12MPH), some ellipticals, older looking stationary bikes, one stair-master, and one old concept 2 rower.

I would recommend to the casual lifter, casual gym-goer and body builder types. Definitely would not recommend for anyone looking to get into proper (read: olympic) weightlifting. I would go for 5 stars if they were open later on weekdays and weekends and a few more pieces of equipment (another rower, lifting platform, dumbbells that go past 100lbs)
