I go to the one in Ct for tanning as we live there and when we come to Johnson city tn for the winter, I come here and I have to say the one here in Johnson City is very clean and they have upgraded their tanning beds a year before we did in Ct. Great staff and never a wait for a tanning bed

These 1st shift people working there seem to be smart ass constantly, they think they are better than everybody that walks in there that has a tattoo or doesn't look like a million dollars.I will say the maneger I talked to was a good person and understood what I was saying.But the old man said there ain't no one talking to me. When I asked for a manager. I really liked it too. Oh well this is what you wanted you were smart as hell to me.

If I could give zero stars I would. On 9/2/25 at 10:45am, after three weeks of forcing myself to build the courage, I walked into the Johnson City Planet Fitness expecting the inclusive, welcoming environment your brand claims to provide. Instead, I was met with indifference. Two employees stood against the wall. When I explained I wanted to join, was nervous, and needed a tour and help with the machines, I was coldly told the trainer had quit “yesterday.” That was the end of it—no alternatives, no reassurance, not even the basic courtesy of showing me around. The older employee wasn’t openly rude, but her dismissive attitude made it clear my presence was an inconvenience. When I asked what I should do, she had no answer and offered nothing. The lack of effort was humiliating and demoralizing. PF calls itself the “Judgment Free Zone,” but I walked out feeling judged, ignored, and unwelcome. What should have been a hopeful first step toward improving my health became a crushing blow to my confidence and self-worth.

Not a safe gym!! Not only have I gotten my car broken into in their parking lot, but I caught someone recording me in the shower with their phone and management’s response was, “how do you know they were recording you?” While their phone peaking over the stall into the showers.

I’m a truck driver so parking is my first concern and this location wasn’t an issue, park in the back and no worries. Clean location, hot shower, cold water fountain, equipment up to par, smaller location and missing a few machines but it got the job done. Thanks a lot and I’d come back if I’m in the area

I've tried this gym multiple times over the last few years. I work in JC but live in Fall Branch and set my membership to here for convince. But everytime I go to this location something is broken. And it usually multiple things I NEED to use that are broken. This last time the water fountains were broken. Usually some kind of weight machine is broken or cardio is broken. Those were also. This has caused multiple issues where I am just standing around waiting with many others because there isn't enough equipment. And no this doesn't mean get more equipment and crowd this already crowded space. It means invest in new equipment that won't break since the stuff here is obviously old. Id rather drive the 27 miles from work to Kingsport to go to a gym that has functional equipment and that's just what I'm going to do.

I go between here and Elizabethton. This place is so nasty compared to Elizabethton. I used to do mornings but I truly am afraid of using the showers here! Today was my final straw. Employees sitting on the counter doing nothing. Standing water under the rugs outside shower caused a slip ( not injury thank God). Then blood drops on the floor from a ladies menstrual cycle.
Machines broken for months, combines with blood. GameFit is closer to my house and looking like the extra 25 bucks will be worth it.

Great place to work out! Any machine you could want, nice free weight section, 30 minute total body section with machines and cardio, massage chairs and hydromassage chair and bed, tanning beds both stand up and lay down tanners, so many bikes and cardio machines, etc.... I always leave feeling great. Oh, and of course a great shower and lockers area for men and women. Love this place ❤️

Wow, worst customer service ever! Called to ask if we could have my wife as the primary account holder instead of me because she goes more often. Was told by staff onsite that is should be no problem. When I called I was yelled at by the manager. When I asked her to please don’t yell at me, she raised her voice even more and said “who is yelling at you?!” This is when I hung up and decided that they don’t get my money. My mother tried calling them to cancel her member ship was told she could do it on line was the guy explained it to fast for her so she spent an hour trying to call back for them to refuse to answer till I call on my phone and was told we'll I already helped her so she can come in and do it. Good place to work out. Would suggest you workout in the morning. After 9 pm alot of young kids come in. After they get done lifting 25lbs they go in the bathroom and flex in the mirror. It's pretty annoying when your trying to change and some conceded jerk is flexing in the mirror. Im not sure if they are doing it to get guys to look at them or what. I went in there tonight and there were 5 kids blocking the walkway in the mirror taking pictures of each other. Wish they would put a sign up that says please don't block the mirror standing there flexing, some people need to get dressed and actually make sure there cloths and hair are done. Go look at yourself in the mirror at home. If it was not for that it would be a great place to work out. Staff is great and very friendly.

So far I've had a great experience at the Johnson City location the trainer Willie has helped me tremendously and I appreciate all the assistance back in January I had to call and a young lady answered the phone I do not remember her name but she was very rude this is part of her job I don't understand how she could be rude to people on the phone or in person as far as the rest of the staff they are great and a big tremendous help to my new journey in Fitness. The only thing I would suggest is maybe someone cleaning the bathroom sink a little more often it's always very wet.

The airflow is great and the place never smells bad like some gyms do. The remodel they just did is mediocre at best. They re-did some of the walls and the area with the tanning beds but left an awful looking bench in one of the changing stalls in the women's locker room. The variety of equipment is more than sufficient to get a good workout. The women's locker room is always dirty and there are never any paper towels in there...THIS is the main reason for the low rating.

To the person saying they didn't give notice and are still charging, if Johnson City is your home gym, a notice of closure for construction was hung up on the doors for probably a month before hand. As for still charging?? I haven't been charged anything since the closure. They froze all accounts, and Kingsport allows you to still use their club though your membership is frozen, so basically it's like a free month if you want to drive there.

Went to workout and found the club closed due to construction. They didn’t provide any notice that the club was closing and still charge for it. No free weights,.. they have dumbbells up to 50 lb but you can't squat or bench press or deadlift unless you use the Smith machine. You can't possibly be a hardcore fitness person and only use machines and dumbbells. However the CrossFit area is cool. On top of that it's extremely overcrowded.

Had the absolute WORST experience for the 5 weeks trying to use the 30min circuit room and it was completely the staff's fault!! Not the entire staff, in fact one staff member was helpful, but the other 3-4 staff members asked for help either ignored me or actually made things worse.

I’ve been going here for about 2 months now, always around 1am or later so I’m speaking for the overnight shift in this review. All the workers are very kind and welcoming. I’ve had nothing but good interactions with them, and from what I’ve seen they act the same way with every one else that comes in. I see them cleaning a lot and it shows, everything from the equipment to the bathrooms is very clean. They also keep everything well stocked, like paper towels, cleaning spray, and toilet paper. I usually never leave reviews but I feel like the staff deserve to be bragged on a little. 10/10. :)

All in all, this is a nice little gym. The people are friendly for the most part except for the rando macho dude here or there. The city tends to have some rather special folks and it's unavoidable that you run into someone that doesn't like cooperating socially in a gym environment eg hogging a machine or weights. All in all, the staff is friendlier than most gyms have been to and more helpful. I will say that I wish they would move away from cell phone logins and go to biometric fingerprint scanners or some other key fob or whatever because I hate loading up or bringing in my phone every time I'm there.

Long hair maintenance guy was rude - putting 225lbs back on smith machine the safeties are metal on metal and make noise. He approaches me and tells me to let the weights down easier because he has to repair the machines. I said are you kidding me. He said they are his machines. I said they don’t belong to you. He looked at me like I was insane and just committed a hideous crime - I asked him if he was nuts. He stormed off looking for the manager.

Let’s try enforcing the rules and keeping the place clean - girls with spandex & bikini tops & filthy bathrooms with blaring TV that smell like a cesspool!

I signed up for my membership in 2019. I had been coming consistently for a few weeks when I walked in and heard an unfamiliar voice say “Welcome, Camille”. I was blown away when I realized a worker had taken the time to remember my name to give me a proper welcome.
That employee’s name is Brandon.
I would go on to find out this was a normal occurrence for him with all guests, as that is just a testament to his kind soul. 4 years later and Brandon continues to prove, daily, how much he genuinely cares about his job and wants to make it a welcoming, safe space for everyone. So very thankful for Brandon and all the great people I’ve met at PF throughout my fitness journey. ❤︎

Started coming here years ago and just got a membership again. Love the environment. Employees are always super nice and helpful with machines. Plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, stair-steppers, etc. Love the 30-min Express Workout. Love that they have showers (4), too. I workout late at night and that keeps me from coming home and making a bunch of noise cleaning up after the gym. Come here if you want a great place to workout!

Today was my first day. The trainer was very professional and polite in teaching me all about the machines and how to use them. Lots of equipment and a wide variety. What I liked was that people minded their own business. No looking and staring at me. I didn't feel weird. I am looking forward to my fitness journey there. I have been going to this gym for years now and I have to say it would be one of the best gyms around except for ONE BIG THING, there is NO ROOM TO STRETCH. There is a designated stretching area, but the management has apparently decided to pack it to the wall with extra work-out equipment.
If the owner or manager is reading this, please, please PLEASE remove just one or two pieces of equipment from the stretching area and I will change my review to 5 stars.

Aside from that I really do enjoy the gym. It's clean, cheap and has plenty of treadmills, and friendly staff. Yes is is often overcrowded but this isn't the fault of the staff and really is a good problem to have since it shows how many people are willing to give it their business..if only there was an open area to stretch.

I experienced a male senior citizen following me around when i went to work out. Made me feel super unsafe. Then, he reported that I had my gym bag and had a staff member talk to me about it. But no staff member told him to stop following a young girl around the gym like some kind of predator. I didn’t know there is a no gym bag on the floor policy because no one ever said anything at the 20 different planet fitness locations I had visited across the east coast. I travel a lot. Then, the old guy kept following me to each station I went to and was either directly behind me or one piece of equipment down. When I got up. He got up too. He would lean over the 30 minute fitness area and watch me while I got paper towels from the area. That guy needs his membership removed. I’ve been in plant fitnesses located in the city with criminals and felt more safe than this country setting one with the creepy old guy looking to cause trouble. I will go out of my way to drive 20 or 30 minutes to one where I can resume keeping my duffle bag with me and be safe from desperate senior citizen guys. I just moved here as well and already have plans to go back up to the city like Pittsburgh or New York. They actually leave you alone.

I'm on the fence. Been going here for years! Got new equipment which is great! Bathrooms are iffy sometimes they are clean, other times they are BAD! The reason for my review today is actually the gentleman working the front tonight was just plain rude. He was rude on Tuesday when I went as well. Getting an attitude with me over my account and then said that all of the benefits can't be used so I left earlier than normal and upset. Seriously considering taking my business elsewhere.

It's clean. Plenty of new machines. The only problem is they close early on the weekends this is not a 24-hour facility. So you really don't get your money's worth like my wife and I work till 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and we can't work out at our local gym we have to drive all the way to the next town to work out on the weekend

Staff was very rude. My fiancé walked in with jeans and boots and the staff member loudly calls him out to ask if he was there to use the treadmill. My fiancé tried to cut up with him and the staff member just continued to state he shouldn’t be on any equipment. He didn’t give us a chance to walk in and get changed and refused to have any conversation. It just felt like he was calling him out loudly and immediately. We’ve been to the plant fitness in Kingsport a hundred times and never had staff approach us this way. We’ve been at the hospital for 15 days due to a loved ones admission and this was our attempt getting out to get ourselves back on track for our health and our first experience out and first experience at this particular location was poor. Staff should be more approachable and personable. I have no issue with the rules but I do have an issue about the encounter today.

I've been a black card member for two years, and dropped to a regular membership for two months. When I went to cancel, they still drafted the annual fee even though I canceled 3 days before it was due. When I called they said I should have come in before the 25th. They drafted early, probably because of the holidays, which is understandable. But it makes no sense that I can't get a refund. When I asked for maybe a credit on my account so I perhaps could use it if I came back in the future, I was told there was nothing they could do. Really? Nothing? After being relatively happy working out there for two years and referring multiple customers, I feel scammed. Awful customer service, and super rude if you want to cancel. Do yourself a favor, pay a few dollars more and go across the street to any of the other gyms.

Visiting the area for a few days and have gone to this Planet Fitness in the evenings, has been very quiet not busy at all. A very clean facility. Last night, Sunday about 7:00 p.m., two employees working, when one was at the front counter the other one was cleaning constantly. Awesome facility very clean all the machines were operating, the only negative is it needs a lot more lighting, and the ceilings are painted black which really makes the place dismal unlike a lot of other facilities which has a white ceiling and a lot more lighting and it's not as depressing. Great staff.
