I feel truly fortunate to have found such an experienced and knowledgeable Iyengar yoga teacher. She is the most skilled teacher I’ve met, and her deep understanding of the practice has completely transformed my yoga journey. Through her, I was introduced to the true essence of yoga beyond just the physical postures.
Her weekend course was incredibly insightful—it not only covered detailed asanas tailored to different body types and conditions, but also introduced us to the powerful practice of Pranayama. I especially appreciated the focus on women’s health and how yoga can support us through different life stages. I’ve learned so much, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for authentic, in-depth yoga training rooted in the Iyengar tradition.

Prenatal yoga with Pauline at Alcove has been incredible. I leave every class feeling 100x better than when I walked in and I feel Pauline really cares to come up with poses that will help our bodies feel & move better. Highly recommend Alcove especially if you’re looking for an intimate and caring practice for prenatal yoga.

After Covid in 2020 I could barely breathe. Therapeutic inyangar yoga with Pauline gave me back my life. I can do standing poses! I can’t recommend this studio enough!

Since the Fall I have been participating in weekend intensives with Pauline where we deep dive into philosophy topics, sequencing, target asanas (postures), and more. The weekly classes are high quality instruction and engaging, and with that foundation these weekends take it to the next level. Pauline's depth of knowledge on these topics is incredible, and I'm grateful to learn from her.

If you are a student of yoga or are interested in deepening your studies in yoga philosophy and asana practice in Iyengar methodology, Alcove yoga is THE studio for you! I have been a student of Pauline’s and now recently, Brenna’s for the past 4 years. I have progressed in my asana practice the most with the support of these two experienced teachers. I continue to practice regularly at the studio because of the level of expertise, skill, and care put into each class. Yoga is a way of life and if you want to go deeper than the asana practice, I recommend joining the yoga studies program. I have just recently completed the program and I can only express that this is a community unlike any other you get to experience in Houston!

Iyengar js a very disciplined form of yoga and at first felt very different to other yoga classes I’ve taken in the past — the positive impacts of this practice are great and Alcove provides a small class setting with clear, personalized instruction. Pauline is an expert in her craft, and Brenna is fantastic at bringing you along and helping you grow.

I did the prenatal yoga once a week throughout my whole pregnancy and I feel it made a huge difference in my pregnancy journey. I appreciated Pauline's guidance in making sure the poses were done correctly, and that the classes were limited to 10 people max. I would recommend to anyone expecting!

I started prenatal yoga classes at around 18 weeks and must say that taking this class was one of the best decisions during this pregnancy. I started to get back pains which is when I realized I needed to get some proper exercise. Since I started doing yoga my back pain disappeared and I felt great right up until delivery. When at 36 weeks ultrasound showed a breech baby Pauline proposed a private session to help move the baby. The baby did turn on the next ultrasound. I would definitely recommend this class and this yoga studio in general.

Disclaimer: I have not attended a class. I was immediately put off by the age brackets: "must be under 40 to attend," "must be over 50 to attend." JUDGMENT! AGE DISCRIMINATION! You just assume people over 40 are not healthy or fit?
When I think of yoga, I want to experience an open, non-judgmental environment. If you want to separate classes, you could say beginner, intermediate, advanced. If you're building an age based community you could clarify that.

I had an amazing experience with Pauline! I did the yoga during my pregnancy starting at 19 weeks. I really enjoyed the classes and even with my belly growing daily, in the end of 39 weeks my flexibility was much better. Was very helpful for the pains that appear during pregnancy. I had a beautiful labor and I am sure the yoga was essential to achieve that. Pauline made me feel comfortable and safe during this period. I highly recommend it!!!

I have been taking the Men’s Essential class with Pauline for about a year now. I have noticed a huge improvement in the flexibility of my shoulders, hips and knees. I have been working through torn meniscus in my knees and have had a couple of surgery’s on my shoulders. This class has been a huge part of my recover and the maintenance of my physical health.
Pauline is a great teacher and I really appreciate her thoroughness and desire to see all of her students improve and grow.
Come join the Men’s Essentials class on Thursday evenings and watch your health improve!

Pauline is an amazing instructor and I love how knowledgeable she is when it comes to pregnancy. I’ve taken a lot of yoga classes at other studios and this is the only class that I’ve taken where time just flies by - and by the end, I can’t even believe the class is over! This studio has made my pregnancy so much easier and helps me feel so much more prepared to deliver my baby as a first time mom.

I've been attending the prenatal classes for two months now, and I've been so happy with the experience. Pauline is extremely knowledgeable about how yoga can help pregnant women be experience more comfort and enjoy their pregnancy journey. She focuses her classes on targeting issues that the class is experiencing that week so it makes me feel like I get something out of every class. I always come home in a good mood after Pauline's class and would recommend!

There are so many good things so say, but I will try to keep it brief.
I have been attending yoga at Alcove for a few months now and absolutely love it. Pauline is a wealth of knowledge and an excellent teacher, I am benefitting so much from her clear instruction and attention to detail. This is very much a mindful and purposeful practice, with emphasis on ensuring proper alignment and meeting each posture safely. I would recommend that anyone looking to start, or develop, a yoga practice to check out Alcove. Thank you Pauline, I look forward to continuing to learn and improve!

I cannot more highly recommend Pauline's Iyengar classes at Alcove Yoga. Since beginning classes in 2019, I have noticed marked improvements in many areas -- more strength and flexibility, higher confidence, and decreased anxiety.
No matter your experience level, you will receive detailed instruction on improving your poses, strength, and flexibility in class. I particularly love Women's Essentials, which focuses on core tone/strength and pelvic health and Iyengar Ignite, which is a great introductory series that will take you from beginner to inversions over the course of 8 weeks.

I have been going to Alcove Yoga on and off from 2015-2022.
Pauline is an incredible instructor, and is extremely knowledgeable about the human body, the history of yoga, the importance of postures (asana) and proper alignment, and when these elements are combined: the great potential for healing and fitness of the body and mind. This is serious yoga - no mirrors, no music, no "intentions" - just a peaceful call to a dedicated practice that is sure to improve your body and state of mind if you stick with it. She is well-known and loved for her prenatal classes, but her other classes and seminars are not to be missed.

I love alcove yoga! As someone who has never taken a professionally guided class, I really appreciate how helpful and patient Pauline has been! She keeps the class fun while also ensuring all of our needs are met. As a first time mom, I love the sense of community that had developed in our class. Overall, I recommend this class to all of my friends!

I’ve been participating in Pauline’s prenatal yoga class and she is AMAZING! She really knows her stuff and every pose is delivered with very specific instruction to ensure that you are getting the full benefit of each pose. The studio itself is charming, clean and really fosters a sense of community. Unlike many commercial studios, this one is a renovated section of a person’s home and everytime I walk up, it feels like I’m visiting a friend. I can’t say enough positive things about Alcove yoga and definitely plan to attend her regular class after the baby is born.

If anyone is in the Houston metroplex looking for a prenatal yoga class, I highly recommend looking into Alcove Yoga. This class has been a life-saver for those weeks when sciatica, reflux, swelling, and other pregnancy symptoms become a daily nuisance. Being in tech, I get even worse back pain from sitting at my desk all day. The instructor Pauline has also been a wealth of knowledge for postural corrections that will be of benefit way beyond the delivery date!

I really enjoy and am very grateful to have joined Pauline's Men's essentials class. It's my first time trying an Iyengar practice and I was quite apprehensive in the beginning. Pauline made me feel at ease with her warm welcome and her inspired teaching style. Her sequencing of poses is very deliberate and I personally feel enriched at the end of every class. The studio is cozy and impeccably clean.
My wife took Pauline's prenatal yoga sessions over zoom during the pandemic and benefited greatly from it. Imagine teaching 10+ students in various stages of pregnancy over zoom and making sure everyone is safe while ensuring they get the necessary benefit from the yoga. Tells you something about the confidence and command that the teacher has over every session. I wondered about it back then and have seen it first hand now. You're awesome, Pauline. Thank you!

I took virtual classes with Pauline throughout my pregnancy, and the body awareness and breathing practices that I learned in her class were instrumental for my relatively smooth and speedy delivery! Pauline is extremely knowledgeable and direct, offering excellent cues and targeted corrections - even over Zoom, with 5-15 people in class. I was fairly new to Iyengar Yoga (yoga in general!), and her directives and examples were easy to follow, and it helped that she regularly highlighted students who were doing the poses well, so that I could see how the poses looked through different practitioners. She also offers recordings for at-home practice. Beyond being an excellent yoga practice, Pauline's class became a lifeline for me through my first pregnancy, as a way to engage with other expectant mothers during the pandemic, trading symptoms and tips. I highly recommend!

Alcove yoga is fantastic! I have taken the pregnancy yoga classes for all 3 of my pregnancies and have very good pregnancies, labor, and deliveries. The women’s essentials class has been very helpful for me as well. I leave the classes feeling mentally and physically rejuvenated. I also really appreciate Pauline’s attention to detail in making sure I am doing the poses correctly and is able to assist/tailor the poses due to individual conditions.

Pauline is extremely knowledgeable and gives very detailed directions. I have taken a lot of different yoga classes online and in other studios. Since my prenatal yoga class at Alcove Yoga in the Beginning of 2020 I’ve never looked back. The quality of the lessons is outstanding, and the progress I’ve made in my practice is unparalleled!

Pauline was very rude when I called to inquire about prenatal yoga. One of my first questions was whether my husband could join the class as this was something we were wanting to do together. I was told that she would not want the other women to feel uncomfortable, very different from the "we only have a limited number of spots" that she claims to have said in her response to my post. Additionally, the client intake form was described more as an exclusive club for which entry from your highness must be granted. If they don't accept certain people with pre-existing conditions why not just ask over the phone like everyone else does? It is yoga, not skydiving Pauline. Needless to say, we found another very open and accepting place for all of our prenatal yoga needs that my husband could join and learn the techniques along with me. Oh and I just remembered, she also told me that she was the best yoga teacher in all of Houston...🤣

Alcove Yoga provides yoga instruction with a personal touch - whether it's online or in person. The cozy and fully equipped studio allows for just the right class size. Live streaming online classes offer the same expertise and attention to detail as the in person classes. Any current practitioner or curious newcomer would benefit from Pauline's deep understanding of the the human body and the Iyengar Yoga tradition. I've been practicing various yoga styles for almost 20 years. I experienced improvements in my strength, endurance, and posture after attending just a few classes. I highly recommend this yoga studio.

As a large woman, out of shape, and over 50 - the classes here have helped me immensely. Classes are small and the space is inviting. Pauline is an amazing instructor and I move my car body into poses that are aligned and strengthen. Pauline adjusts my poses and makes sure that I (and other classmates) are not injured. I highly recommend this studio.

Alcove Yoga is such a unique yoga experience in the best way possible. The instructors give you individual attention and modifications. They take the time to learn and understand each student’s body and needs. That’s what sets AY apart from any other studio. When I go to class I know that I will get exactly what my body needs. I have scoliosis which used to cause chronic back pain, but with the help of Pauline and the other instructors my pain is gone! I can’t brag on this place enough.

Alcove is the best yoga in Houston -- and I've been to a LOT of studios in this town.
Pauline has a knowledge of anatomy and alignment that translates into a class experience that leaves me feeling as if I've had a massage. It's not a "flow" class and you won't be listening to groovy tunes or sweating up a storm. Instead, you'll focus on precise, intentional movement with breath, expertly led and cued. I've built strength and flexibility...and healed many of the injuries I sustained doing yoga elsewhere. If it's your first experience with Iyengar, it may take a little while to adjust to it. But if you stick with the program and follow Pauline's cues, you'll be surprised at how good you can feel.

This is a great yoga studio where you learn the correct alignment of the poses through precise instructions and personalized attention. The teachers give specific modifications of the poses to each student based on their own needs. Here, you can actually see yourself improve class by class and pose by pose.
I am so thankful to have found this amazing yoga studio and to have teachers like Pauline, Leah and Kate who really care for their students and show patience, preparation and dedication in every class and with every student.

Iyangar yoga is the best kind of yoga---correct positioning, stretching, elongating and strengthening with a meaningful spiritual and meditative component.
Pauline and the other teachers at Alcove Yoga are highly trained instructors who give each participant individual attention. The classes are small which allows for this.
Currently, I am taking Level one classes and the Women's class on Saturday morning. Although it is billed as a class for pregnant women, non-pregnant women, like me, attend as well. I find it particularly helpful for the tightness in my chest and right arm that is the result of cancer treatments.

Alcove Yoga is wonderful, and I just wish I discovered this Iyengar studio earlier. It is a great alternative to many of the more inexperienced teachers in town who don't pay as much attention to alignment and have dropped all Sanskrit references. The prenatal classes with dinner are such a treat!

I've practice yoga on and off since I was 12 years old (Ashtanga, Bikram, and Baptiste yoga prior to practicing Iyengar yoga).
Your practice will improve, regardless of your experience level.
If you want to be pushed, Pauline's classes are the best to attend.

I moved to Houston a year ago and found Pauline's yoga studio almost immediately. Pauline is an expert teacher of the Iyengar style of yoga, which focuses on proper alignment and technique. So while I enjoy other styles of yoga, I make a point of attending Pauline's class at least once a week: What I learn from her helps keep me safe when I practice in the large, unsupervised classes I take at my gym. Pauline is herself and attentive and nurturing teacher. Her studio is peaceful and clean--fully equipped, so no need to schlep your own mat. She makes use of her rope wall, thanks to which I (who am still unable to do head/handstands) have been able to experience the benefits of hanging upside down! I highly recommend that you come and practice at Alcove Yoga with Pauline and the other two instructors who work with her, even if you don't live in the Heights. It's worth the trip!
