I travel full-time. I'm in the area for Thanksgiving and came to this location to workout and shower before dinner with our family. Upon walking in, the gym smelled like rotten food and body odor. Every piece of equipment is covered in dust. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. The sink hasn't been cleaned in weeks and was covered in public hair. I promptly left and went to the closest Planet Fitness.

This location stinks. I had to drive to another location just to get a workout in. I refuse to workout in a place that has a horrible smell. 😫 The main reason I got the membership was location. I just moved here and it's closer to my home. After 3 attempts of going to this location I will be canceling my membership, no way after 2 months the smell is still there.

Yeah, the gym could use a little TLC — maybe a fresh coat of paint and a cleaning crew with a vengeance. But I’m still giving it 5 stars because they’ve got more equipment than a superhero training facility. Seriously, if you can lift it, push it, pull it, or hang from it — they’ve got it. I have to echo what others have said: Do NOT join this gym. On top of the moldy smell & dirty bathrooms at this location, they would not cancel my membership even after they told me they had. I was charged for 4 months after my supposed cancelation & when I brought it to their attention they confirmed that the previous manager never even submitted the cancelation request. They apologized & finally canceled my membership, but have refused to reimburse me. Now they won't answer my calls or emails & have been impossible to work with.

Update: After I posted this review, the new regional manager called & has refunded me. He assured me he & his new team are working to get this location back on track. I wish them the best.

Extremely accommodating! They gave us a week pass for free to let us try it out. We called Crunch and they wanted to charge us $15 and their website lied saying they had very low fees but then when we called it was $75 a year annual fee on top of this.

In october the old “anytime fitness” sign fell in my car and caused various damages and the gym still hasent compensated for the cost of the repairs. I was also promised by management and staff that they would take care of it and pretty much got ghosted .

I’ve been coming to this gym for 2 years now. There’s CONSTANTLY a change in management. There was a period of time when the manager stopped showing up and there was nothing to wipe off the machines, no soaps in the bathroom, pubes on the toilet seat that had been cemented from pee stains. Most recently there’s been a new manager that creepily follows women around during their workout. Finally it seemed like they had hired someone that showed up and stayed in the office for the entirety of anytime business hours, but I was wrong. This gym has gone downhill significantly since Joey left. Please spend your money elsewhere. I used to love how it was never busy during peak hours and that’s really the only thing that kept me coming all these years but with the low level of sanitation and lack of management during “hours”, it’s really turned my head.

UPDATE: not worth it. I do not recommend this gym.

The gym is very unsanitary. There has been no soap in the bathrooms for about 2 months. There have been no hand sanitizer refills throughout the gym for about 5 weeks. There were no sanitation wipes for equipment for about 2 months, and the gym JUST started providing paper towels and spray bottles of Kaboom to clean equipment. I don’t want a Staph infection, but management here doesn’t seem to care (and they are never in their office after 5pm).

I joined, in part, for the variety of equipment. The sole heavy bag is, without explanation or apology, now lying on the floor in a corner with its chain in a heap. Several of the machines stutter or “catch” as you try to use them (e.g. the lat pull-down machine does this as the attached weights go up/down). I don’t feel I can safely use the equipment as advertised, or as intended.

I pay about $50/month for this gym. I signed the minimum 1-year contract at that rate. These problems built over the first few months of my membership, and I am locked in for maybe 7 more months.

The new Crunch Fitness (located basically next-door) charges like $15/month. This Anytime Fitness isn’t even worth that.

I really, really wish I could get out of my contract. Don’t make the mistake I did.

I don't know. I went over intending to sign up. They were open and there were people in there, but the door was locked. You need a membership card to open it. I rang the bell 3 or 4 times but no one let me in. There's a sign that warns members not to let anyone in, and apparently management wasn't around. I guess they have all the members they need.

Well it's a real shame, because after 6 to 7 years at Anytime Fitness in San Marcos, I have finally realized why so many people that I used to work out with have left Anytime Fitness and never come back. I used to defend this gym and say that it's not too bad to most people that would tell me to switch, and it used to be a great gym with Silas as the manager, but recently with the new management, specifically Jacob, this gym has gone downhill quickly. Keep in mind I workout daily and use the facility a lot, I have been one of the most frequent members at this gym, signing in well over 30 times every month. This Sunday I got an email from Anytime Fitness saying that they were suspending my membership after a second warning for destroying the bathroom. I never got the first warning! It turns out they had my number wrong and accused me of flooding the bathroom by clogging the toilet. Now I will admit that I didn't know that paper towels can't go in the toilet and to that I will admit my mistake. But with how much I go there you can't just let me know in person? The way they found I was "destroying" the bathroom was through looking at the cameras, which by itself sounds very illegal, who knows where they are keeping their cameras? Regardless, how can you have time to watch the cameras meticulously and yet not have time to just tell me to my face? I would have appreciated it more than a random email suspending my account. Now to the flooding the bathroom accusation, the most paper towels I have ever put in the toilet is about 2 or 3. They said that I flooded the whole bathroom by doing this? I don't understand how that could flood the whole bathroom? I also take a shower after I workout, so I assume they saw the water on the ground in the bathroom and took that as me "flooding" the bathroom? I guess you shouldn't use the showers here so you won't get accused of "flooding" the bathroom. Although sometimes I have no other choice, the gym never has any toiletries, I have had to use paper towels as toilet paper or toilet paper as paper towels many times before this. When I told management, he told me they could not put extra in the bathroom because, " people like to steal". Toilet paper?! Paper Towels?! Who the hell is stealing stuff like that? I really used to love this gym a lot, I even got personal training here with the old manager Silas, who is a gem, and has moved on to better things than Anytime Fitness, good for him. Because of this new management, it has completely ruined my opinion of Anytime Fitness, and I will tell anyone and everyone how awful this place is. Fair warning, DO NOT come here unless you want a subpar gym, with subpar management, and subpar facilities. The only good thing I can say is how quick they were able to cancel my membership and throw 6 to 7 years of coming here down the drain. At least they didn't scam me with that. Please if you care about yourself, STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRIBLE GYM!!!!!

Before you get a membership go visit the gym during a hot day in the afternoon & you will see the gym is hotter than outside! Only half of the AC work. The equipment is neglected 2 trad mills are broken for almost a year, 1 of the bikes doesn't work, a lot of the weight lifting machines haven't been service in years. The membership requires you pay "service maintenance" twice a year without the results. The back emergency door is often unlocked so several times I have seen homeless people sleeping in the gym, 1 time a homeless brought his laundry and washed it at the shower in result of flooding the carpet in front of the bathrooms. The only reason I go there is because it's a 24 hour gym & is 2 miles from my house. Think twice before you invest in it

It's got pretty much the same equipment as every other anytime give or take a couple machines. Decently sized. What really makes this gym unpleasant is the smell everyone in the reviews complains about is still here. There's junk and random inventory just randomly thrown out and one of the gentlemen that works the front desk comes in with a friend that just constantly Rick flaire wooahs and yells. I love gym intensity but it's the fakest kind of obnoxious intensity that's unnecessary while doing cable lateral raises with 10 pounds. I expect annoying frat guys at the rec center on campus not at an anytime fitness.

One Star is because I have yet to experience this gym. I've stopped by on 3 separate weekdays around 1pm to sign up, but each time, there is a sticky note in the window that says "on lunch, I'll be back at 3:30." The website says the gym is staffed from 10am through 7pm. I understand that employees need a break, and I even understand if an emergency causes a staff member to be gone for 3 hours during a shift. However, the fact that this has happened to me 3 times on separate, random days seems a bit unreasonable. I guess I'll just sign up for another gym. Bummer!

Good gym that has all the basics, but could use upgrades for sure. It gets overcrowded because the lock is broken and anyone can come in for free. They always play good music and the treadmills have TVs, which I love. Sometimes the odor is unbearable when you first walk in like it has never been cleaned and I’d recommend they get more air freshener. Trashcans are always full and often times there are no wipes to clean with so bring your own. Overall, this gym is decent, needs work.

Had a signed form from management saying my last draft date would be 1/7/2021, Guess someone didn't get the memo because February came and I was charged again. Went in to follow up and was assured it would be corrected but never got refunded for the extra month they charged me for. Pretty pricey for what you get, about $48 a month. Few machines have been messed up for a while. They're constantly out of the sanitary wipes, even during staffed hours. I thought my membership was finally going to end but it turns out they sign you up for automatic renewal without telling you! I stopped going to this gym several months ago. My debit card was compromised and I did not give them a new one because I had quit going. Suddenly, I received a bill for $865 from a collection agency.

Apparently, it was not a month to month payment.

I have been with Anytime Fitness in Dripping Springs and Wimberley and never felt tricked like this. Read the fine print on the contract if you go here. Do listen to the person.

I have been trying to cancel my memebership for a year. I have moved out of state and have not been there in a year!!! Back in Nov 2018 I finally got a hold of someone. They are almost never there to take calls. They said I had to send them a copy of my new state ID from Az in order for them to cancel. I did that. They have still charged me every month. A young member that attended this club decided to join the military and serve his country. He ensured to let the club know of his decision to cancel his contract. The club/owner proceeds to charge him a cancelation fee when this person is covered under SCRA. I proceed to call the owner and explain what this meant. The owner was rude and decided to tell me to get lost. I call corporate to see if they could explain this to the owner but the owner has simply refused to listen or help out this individual. It has been several weeks where I have tried to resolve the issue but since then have charged him another month of fees when he hasn’t even been to the gym. Terrible experience!!! I signed for a 2 year contract. I was honestly not impressed with this facility at ALL equipment was always broken!! I was so glad to finally be out of this contact in Dec 2018. When signed I was told that the last payment would be taken out in December and I'd be given an option to extend. Which I NEVER recieved the phone call. The money continues to be taken out of my account & when calling customer service they said I must go in and sign paperwork in order for my contract to end. I like the Anytime Fitness chain as a whole. It's convenient to be able to go to a gym in pretty much any city I travel to. This one is sub par though. They have a lot of broken and breaking equipment. The manger is never here in the morning. It takes at least a month for broken equipment to get taken care of. The fly machine was broken for about 3 months.
The gym is very clean though. It's cleaned daily, so it stays very nice overall.

This place has hands down, the most gym equipment per area, I was impressed! 4 power racks and a smith machine while still having enough room for a rack of dumbells, open exercise floor, treadmills/ellipticals and 3 private bathrooms with showers. Even took a bunch of photos to show my friends and family. Open 24/7/365 and their staff is friendly and gave me a no pressure tour and let me shop around before I decided on this one. Been here over a year now and I love it!

Good luck getting inside to tour gym or ask for pricing. Door says staffed hours 9am to 7 pm. I stood outside calling the phone number at 9:30 am and nobody answered or acknowledged me standing outside.

Love that it's open 24-7 but wish it had everything golds gym had or at least a tanning bed. We pay about the same price as golds.

I live in San Marcos and work all around Austin and San Antonio. So I use alot of ANYTIMEFITNESs locations om my routes during work, and I have to say this location is by far the best one. Very clean, friendly staff, always willing to give great advice. Ive been to alot of gym in San Marcos and you can't beat the 24 hr access.

The gym is small and it smells. It's over priced and they do not honor their agreements. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Just go to the golds gym down the road.

I've been a member for well over a year and I absolutely love it. The 24 hour availability has to be my favorite part. The equipment there is great and the free weight section is even better. The place is always clean and they even offer wipes in case you aren't satisfied. Yes it's a little small but you won't notice unless it's peak hours. Even then, I don't mind because members are so friendly and the staff even friendlier! A perfect place to start your fitness journey!

Unfortunately, this is the closest Anytime Fitness to my house, so, at times, I am forced to go to it.

I would never recommend this gym to anyone. The space is WAY TO SMALL! Also, there are a bunch of regulars who go there and are constantly filming themselves and other patrons in the gym. If you like any sort of privacy, this is ABSOLUTELY NOT the place for you.

The equipment is OK. They lack some machines I have found to be staples at other facilities, but there is still enough to get the job done. The fact of the matter is simply that it is too small, and there are some inconsiderate people who go to this particular gym.

A gym is exactly what it is a sweat shack to get in shape..... It's impossible to keep 100% clean, it's impossible to keep every crybaby from crying.... However it is possible you can have huge gains at this gym. I could careless what other people are doing there I'm there for me. I'd that is your mind set go hit this gym. It's good enough.

Used to good, not anymore. Hot as a sauna and crowded with obnoxious people who grunt and yell and throw the weights around. We will be switching once our contract is up.

This gym started out well, and has gone downhill since they changed owners and management. As the previous poster said, there are quite a few problems going on.

1. The gym is a mess in general. Rules about returning weights, jump ropes, boxes etc to where they go is never enforced. Imagine going in everyday and having to clean up after other people before you can even start working out. The cleaning wipes are never stocked. They are gone after like 1 week. Along with equipment strewn about, people leave their clothes everywhere too. The bathrooms are generally a mess and it's almost comical how people just leave their clothes and shoes EVERYWHERE.

2. The place is really small, and the equipment is always broken. Ellipticals are broken, so are cable machines. A window has been broken for over a month. Management responds by putting painters tape over it... lovely.

3. Management ignores all complaints, and just gives you bogus responses to shut you up. The place has also been closed during the 24 hours it is supposed to be open.... do you think anyone was apologized to for that inconvenience? Nope. They still take your monthly fee and don't care.

4. The only slight thing they care about is convincing people to sign up for their bootcamp classes. What you need to realize is this gym is TINY. There is NOT room for people to have classes inside. The old trainer that used to work there would take people outside to train - problem solved. Now, the management just rearranges all the free weight equipment, marks certain equipment, and rudely ruins other peoples workouts so they can have their classes inside. Another interesting note, is if you read the bios on the trainers only like 2 are actually certified....

The only thing this gym has going for it is its 24 hours. I agree with the other poster 100% about how it doesn't really stand a chance against other gyms in town except for that one factor. I've been to multiple anytime fitness locations. When the gym was operated by previous management and owners the San Marcos location was better, NOT ANYMORE.

A gym should be clean, have functional equipment, and have management that actually wants to be there and do their job seeing as how that's what they get paid to do. If they would just return to how they used to operate it could go back to being a really nice gym... for now it's just pathetic.

If it weren't for the hours I'd run as fast as I could from this gym. It's dirty, ill maintained and poorly managed. When in there make sure you take a look around, the floor, the water fountains and equipment. I can’t figure out for the life of me why they can’t seem to keep machine wipes in stock. It’s simple, ORDER MORE SUPPLIES. It’s just not clean! Don’t even get me started on the bathrooms. The day my routine changes and for some reason need to start showering there is the day I walk. During my travels I’ve been to other Anytime Fitnesses and they have been SPECTACULAR so I know it’s not an issue of running a 24 hour operation.
The place is also way too small for all they try to cram in there. If you didn’t want to actually invest the money into making a space conducive to classes, don’t have them. I’ve been pushed off equipment and unable to use spaces in that gym cause some class is going on or a yahoo trainer thinks they can take up more space then they need.

Since I’ve moved a lot I’ve also been a member of 5 gyms now and how this place is run is just unacceptable. Like I said, if it weren’t for the hours and the lousy other choices in San Marcos I’d be GONE. The day a well run gym with good hours moves into town I don’t see San Marcos Anytime Fitness standing a chance.
