This weightlifting team is more than just a training group—it’s an atmosphere of excellence, determination, and support that pushes everyone to rise to their fullest potential. From the moment you step in, you feel the energy: a shared drive to get stronger, to move better, and to hold each other accountable to the highest standard.

The environment here is unmatched. Every rep, every lift, every session carries a sense of purpose. The focus isn’t only on strength—it’s on growth, discipline, and resilience. The commitment to proper technique, long-term progress, and overall well-being creates a foundation that allows every athlete to thrive.

What makes this team extraordinary is the culture of encouragement and unity. Success is celebrated together, and challenges are faced as a group. It’s a space where motivation is contagious, where perseverance is expected, and where every individual is uplifted by the collective spirit.

This isn’t just training—it’s transformation. This is the kind of atmosphere that turns weightlifting into something greater: a journey of self-mastery, camaraderie, and pride. To be part of this team is to experience what it truly means to belong to something powerful.

Best weightlifting gym in the US for sure. Best coaches as well as best athletes. If you are just starting or a seasoned veteran this is the place to go. If you are in town a drop in is warranted. If you are looking for an online answer they have that for you.

Yeah, I’m getting stronger, but also running out of closet space because the merch here is top tier.

Seriously though, salvation is Bexar’s primary export. This gym saved my life. WELCOME TO THE PROCESS.

If you are thinking about joining Bexar - just do it. don’t wait as long as I did.

Programming and coaching at Bexar is exceptional. Communication is outstanding—Brittany responds almost immediately, even when she’s traveling. The culture of this team is unparalleled, even for remote athletes like myself. I feel more connected and supported by teammates I’ve never met than I ever have on other teams. This environment is a direct result of Brittany’s incredible leadership.

B truly cares about people. She was there for me during one of my darkest days, even though I was a complete stranger at the time and not yet on her team. Since becoming her athlete, our conversations go beyond snatch and clean and jerk. B prioritizes my personal development over how much I can lift - better humans make better athletes.

this has been my home gym for going on 3 years. I was taught from the ground up, being not well taught/or knowledgeable previously, Nicole took me in and guided me through, enough to qualify for masters nationals, and crush goals together. If you think you wanna compete ever, this IS the gym that takes home all the medals. TOGETHER.

I’ve made some lifelong friends here, into family. All staff, and other athletes. 🐻

Meh.
Don't take your kids here, it's not safe for a multitude of reasons.
If you are a Masters athlete this group of 20 year old does not know how to safely train you, nor do they care to learn. (I say this as a coach who works with children and adults.)
The mind games and manipulation that the owner and her wife play are disgusting, oh, and exploitation and free labor of employees is also a thing they do, a lot... it's what they run their businesson. Gross.
- if you want a fun hobby, Olympic lifting is great, and good coaches are hard to find... but, this place suuuuuuuuucks, however, you might get some cool pictures ((eye roll))

When I originally went there I was excited to be able to train and learn the dynamics. Then I started to see the cliques form there. Nicole was very rude to me when I was there. I can recall a time that I ordered a shirt and she told me bluntly are you deaf? I said here’s your shirt. I’m a disabled veteran my hearing is not the best so I took it personal.

I brushed it off and continued to train with B but noticed she was ignoring me. She was always on her phone and it seemed like if you weren’t 65kg or less trying to out lift how much you weigh she wouldn’t give you the time of the day. She also would talk about other people’s business to you.

The last straw for me was when they “enforced” the training times by stating if you got there at 4:30 you had to be done by 6:30. If you got there after 4:30 you had to wait until 6:30 to train. I got there at 4:30 and I was getting ready to use the blocks and a new person came in at 5:45 to train with Nicole. I was patient and waited until the last person to finish the blocks. I put my barbell there and Nicole moved it and said we need it completely disregarding me. I called and told B about it and she gaslighted me and said I wasn’t being a team player.

I told Nicole about the issue and she blew me off and said I should’ve used the rack. They’re both mean girls, and they pick and choose who and what the rules apply to.

I left and never looked back. It was hurtful that I sacrificed everything for them and all they did was take everything from me but it was a lesson learned. That’s what they are energy drainers, and blood suckers for money. Since then they’ve blocked me but trust me that’s fine.

I don’t feel bad for the people involved in helping their toxicity because now it’s happening to them. I just hope people learn their lesson from this.

I’m now genuinely happy and know what it’s like to be in a professional and safe environment in a barbell club. Unfortunately you’ll have to look outside of San Antonio for that. You’ve been warned don’t go there.

I joined Bexar Barbell in August of 2022 after visiting the gym with my wife, Bryn, who had also just joined after hitting a hard plateau with her previous coach.

At the time, I was not into Olympic lifting as a sport, I just dabbled in it here and there from doing CrossFit. Bryn and I made a trip from Waco so she could meet the coaches and other athletes, and I immediately fell in love.

First of all, as an outsider coming into their space, they were all very welcoming about me dropping in and enthusiastically answered the many questions I had about the sport and the lifts. I could tell that coach Brittany and Nicole were invested in helping Bryn achieve her goals.

After a few visits, I decided that I wanted to join and start my journey as an athlete. Ironically enough, Brittany was the one who actually offered to coach me. She saw my potential and shared her desire to help me. I said yes.

Since then, I have added 18kg to my snatch, 31kg to my clean and jerk, and 29kg to my competition total. I’ve gotten to travel to several meets and support some of the best people I’ve ever met. The community here is truly unmatched. Every coach here cares about what they do, and are not afraid to dive into the nuances of what it takes to improve. I’ve experienced nothing but patience, tough love, and belief in my ability to absolutely smash goals with my coach. This place is awesome.

Brittany and her staff are simply put the most uplifting, people driven coaches you’ll ever meet. There is a family aspect in that gym you cannot find in most places. If you’re on the fence know they will put every ounce of into you as an athlete! PERIOD.

Bexar Barbell is great until it isn’t. My review is based on having two youth athletes there over a four year span.

My chief complaint is that the owner/head coach oversteps her bounds when it comes to youth athletes and is quick to anger when her authority is questioned. For example, my child had a neck injury that was likely due to over training. My husband and I scheduled an MRI so we could rule out the possibility of permanent damage. We were approached by the head coach (who was my daughter’s coach), she insisted an MRI was not necessary because she could get a Bexar member to perform chiropractics on my child for free. We declined, citing the well being of our child as a whole and not simply as an athlete. Afterwards the coach refused to speak to us for over a month.

On other occasions we were contacted by owner/head coach about our child attending multiple national meets during the school year even though she had already attended national meets for the year, they were costly, meant time off school, etc. When we declined, the head coach became very upset with us and questioned our dedication to our child and her future as an athlete. She does not seem to be able to take no for an answer. Her solution was to express her frustrations with us to our child. While she ceased communications with us she continued communications with our child unsupervised.

In addition, our younger daughter was training under a wonderful junior coach at the gym whom she adored. There came a time when her coach quit and it was a rather abrupt exit. It wasn’t unusual for these sudden exits from this gym. What bothered me was that my nine year old came to me upset because she said when she asked the head coach where her coach was she told her “she can’t work here anymore because she is a bad person.” My daughter was devastated. This was a woman she looked up to. I found this to be highly unprofessional and I wouldn’t expect a business owner to express petty character assassination to a child. She lost interest shortly after.

I have much more I could say, dozens upon dozens of red flags I ignored—these are just concrete examples I can point to, things I experienced, which I wish would have been enough to make me take my kid and run before it was too late.

I dropped in from out of state to train here for a week and it was truly an amazing experience. I felt like it was my home away from home when I was training there. The facility itself was well sized, well formatted for many athletes to be training at the same time, and very clean and well taken care of. The staff and coaches provide such a safe environment for growth and this permeated to the very members themselves. I truly have never felt so welcomed anywhere else away from my home gym in California. Big shoutout to the owner and head coach Brittany for building something special with her team and family at Bexar. I’ll be back for sure!!

Bexar Barbell has been a little haven for me and my sister. After meeting two of the coaches for the first time at a meet, one of the coaches, Brittany, noticed my sister (whose coach, at the time, was not present) was struggling mentally and at risk for bombing out in the meet. She was able to settle her nerves and complete the meet successfully.

From the moment you get introduced to Bexar, you are enveloped in a culture unlike any other. The coaches at Bexar will tell you otherwise (pointing at the athletes themselves), but they are the heartbeat of the gym. Their care of and dedication to their athletes set them apart from any other coach - they do more than focus on just lifting. They focus on helping athletes become better people.

I've personally experienced one of the coaches talking me through a mental breakdown I had, helping me form challenging text messages, and supporting me through family issues. Twice now, I've had the head coach and her wife allow me to stay at their house while I was visiting HQ from out of state so I could save a few pennies - I am certainly not the only athlete they've allowed to do this either!

Outside of helping athletes become better humans, the coaching itself is top notch. The coaches work with athletes to tailor programs that not only challenge their strength but also systematically refine their technique over time. The coaches will alter the programming based on the athlete's individual weaknesses and needs, even injuries, making sure the athletes - in house or remote - are best set up for success.

I highly recommend Bexar Barbell for anyone who is looking for a new gym or a place to train.

I’ve been with Bexar Barbell for around a year now and thanks to the amazing coaches, I have improved greatly, not only in my lifts, but also my mindset. I used to take lifting way too seriously and get upset whenever a session wasn’t going my way. The coaches, and community, from Bexar Barbell have helped me develop a more positive mindset towards myself and towards weightlifting as a whole. Coach B has a fantastic outlook on lifting and values consistency over a one time PR. This approach has completely changed how I lift and has even improved my mindset outside out the gym. Any time I have questions (which is often, I can be a lot) Coach B never makes me feel like a burden and answers as soon as possible. If I want technique help, she’s there to help. If I have any other personal goals, she is swift to communicate and implement them! I love the community, the coaches, and the whole approach to weightlifting that I’ve only just begun to experience. I can’t recommend Bexar Barbell enough!

I joined Bexar Barbell almost two years ago. Being a remote athlete I feared that I would not be able to be connected with my coach or the team but that was not the case at all. The owner fosters a healthy environment where everyone feels included and like you’re part of a family. The owner is very good about making sure that remote athletes get the same quality of feedback that the local members get and is always looking for ways to improve communication by constantly sending surveys looking for areas where the club can improve. As a service member my schedule can be tough and sometimes I find myself having pains from the work day but the coaches are always a call/ text away ready to make adjustments to ensure that imm being taken care of. The best part of this place is the people focused staff that work there. They truly want to see you grow in everything that you do in and out of the gym. I strongly recommend this place no matter where you find yourself in your athletic training.

I recently relocated to San Antonio from Colorado (after a trip earlier this year where I got to train with Bexar athletes) convinced me to move down. In my life as an athlete, I have never been in an environment so electric and accepting. This gym is more than a place to workout, it’s a safe space for everyone and it has become a home away from home for me and many others. All of the coaches and gym owner go above and beyond for the community. This place is a true diamond in the rough.

Since joining Bexar Barbell at the tail end of 2022 I have had NOTHING negative to say about the entire experience. The owner/head coach is my coach and I have had such an amazing training experience. I am a hobby lifter with ambitious goals but am treated with the level of respect and attention given to her international level lifters. Coach B makes time for me and listens to what I have to say about training while taking my goals into account. I have always had a problem talking about the mental side of weightlifting. Having had a few minor and one major injury, sometimes heavier squats and cleans get in my head. Coach B knows and understands this and personalizes her approach to coaching me. She is respectful and professional and I have never had as good of lifting gains as I have had in the past year. Happy to be a part of one of the most successful teams in the country led by the fearless Brittany Rucker. Thanks Coach B!

I’ve been a remote athlete for Bexar Barbell for a little over a year. I can honestly tell you that between everyday training and competitions I have not once felt like the owner or anyone on her team was not there to support me. I told the owner when I started that my technique was horrible and even after she saw it she didn’t hesitate to still coach me. Anytime I have needed her she has always been there, that is more than I can say for other oly gyms in my area.

Bexar Barbell sets the standard for weightlifting gyms. Ive been all around the country, in many barbell clubs and CrossFit gyms and I do not think you will find a cleaner, more organized or professional place. The coaches go above and beyond to individualize training. Ive been with Bexar since the beginning in 2020, originally as an in house athlete and now as a remote. Through multiple military moves, injuries, and busy life schedules, my coaches have always been accommodating and reachable. The biggest thing that sets Bexar apart is that the coaches work towards YOUR goals. It doesn’t matter if you want to lift for fun 2 days a week or become a national medalist- there’s room for you.

I can’t say enough positive things about Bexar Barbell. I joined earlier this year after leaving a CrossFit gym I wasn’t happy with and wanting to focus more heavily on Olympic lifting. My first meeting was with Nicole and I was hooked instantly. Nicole and everyone that was at the gym that day were all so welcoming and kind while I was talking about my goals and getting a tour of the gym. Nicole became my coach and I am not sorry to say I’m obsessed with her. She’s so supportive and genuine while being an absolute badass and inspiration. I have had a lot of ups and downs in my lifting journey (no pun intended) and Nicole has stuck with me through it all. I couldn’t be more grateful for her support.

I also have multiple friends that train at Bexar and they all say similar things about their coaches. Truly fantastic environment for lifters of all ages and skill levels.

I have been a member of Bexar Barbell since it was a club run out of a garage. The vibe has been consistent since those days. Even with 100+ athletes, you still get that "mom and pop shop" feel. I'm one of the older athletes but I never feel uncomfortable. The young whippersnappers accept me and often times forget my age. It's a nice feeling to train at a facility where age is just a number and the kilos on the bar don't dictate your status. Whether you lift an empty barbell or 100kg, you're viewed as an equal by both coaching staff and athletes. The coaching staff is superior. Whether you are a newbie or Olympian, you get the same quality of attention throughout team training and remote video analysis. Bexar Barbell runs local meets which are so fun. The meets typically run smoothly and offer professional photograph packages! As for national meets, the team is so big that you travel as a pack. Its so cool! The camaraderie among this team is unrivaled. The love that is shown across social media is no hoax. Sure, some teammates favor other teammates over others, but it's not cliquey or like an eighth grade dance. Everyone genuinely gets along. I've never experienced something so special. Set aside the community, lets talk business. The price is right and you most definitely get your money's worth. And if you feel like you're not getting your money's worth, talk to the coaches. They are extremely receptive to criticism and professional problem solvers. As for the equipment, it is all top quality from reputable brands. Everything is within a couple years old and there are enough plates, change plates, bars, platforms, and clips to go around. With set team training hours in the AM and PM, it's rare you will run into a situation where you have to wait for equipment to become available. The facility itself is very clean and smells nice for a CF gym. Snack and drinks are available for sale, as well as awesome apparel merch. Bexar Barbell has an indoor and outdoor space. The outdoor space is great for people who are more covid-conscious, but also great if you wanna work on your tan.

The coaching staff here is amazing. They have made me believe I am capable of more than I ever though I was capable of. In less than a year they have gotten me to hit numbers that I had set for myself as lifetime goals. Not to mention the team they have created is truly amazing and now feels like family. I couldn’t recommend Bexar Barbell more.

No matter the reason why you are looking for a (new) team/coach, either a better place to improve your skills or simply looking for that sensation of belonging somewhere, this is the place for you. Bexar Barbell will give you more than you ever thought you needed as an athlete as well as a person. This team is full of incredible people fully dedicated and passionate about what they do, simply an environment like no other. No matter if you are an in-house athlete or a remote athlete training miles away from them, they will never fail to make you feel a part of them. I have never met a group of coaches that truly enjoy to help you get to a better place, incredibly skilled and amazing at communicating with athletes. As a remote athlete, the process of improving ourselves is very simple and highly enjoyable, but I've got to say that I am very much looking forward to moving to SA to train and see my beautiful bears every single day. <3

Bexar Barbell had been the type of community I have always wanted but never found prior to moving to Texas. Coaches Brittney, Nicole, and Eli have created a great cadre of athletes both virtually and in-person ranging from beginners like me to national champions who, despite differences in levels, encourage and bring out the best in each other. The coaching plan is individualized, very organized, and easy to follow. If you have any work conflicts (ie increase in work hours) or anything with family comes up, the coaches understand and will work with you and adjust your training regimen in light of that. As important as the training plans, the camaraderie here has given me better focus and purpose when I workout, has strengthened my discipline, and honed the technique involved in snatches and clean and jerks. When I compare myself now at Bexar to the time I trained by myself, my lifts have been on a whole other level in terms of successful lifts made, numbers put on, and proper technique utilized.

When I finish my daily workout at Bexar, especially on hard training days, I get confidence that permeates not only in the gym but also throughout work and personal life, which, as a result, has had a positive effect on my life as a whole. Bexar Barbell is the first gym that has concurrently helped me become a better athlete and a better person.

I have been working with Coach Brittany for just under half a year now and have seen growth not only in my strength and power production with the sport of oly lifting, but have fixed numerous technique problems to where I lift more like an oly lifter. Excellent communicator and cares for each and every athlete. Her athlete’s results speak to her coaching and care for every individual.

I have been working out in one form or another since sixth grade. However with COVID-19 and the lockdown I decided to make some much needed changes in my life, I went vegan and cut alcohol ( I have lapses where I want a beer and I sometimes eat cheese. The last piece to the puzzle that is my health was getting in shape, I had started lifting with my barbell primarily with crossfit workouts and other "programs" well. I was following a few usawl pages on Instagram and came across Bexar, this is where it got real! I reached out with interest and a short convo later I have Brittany calling me aka Mama B or just B, that short conversation was all it took for me to know I was home. She wants to make sure all her althletes, even her remote ( like me) get the same attention and love and she has no time for drama, from day one she and Nicole have been real and have pushed me more than I ever have. I am thankful to call Bexar home and look forward to a big 2021!

Becoming a part of Bexar Barbell has truly been a blessing. Head Coach Brittany has a passion, focus and ability to execute that is unmatched. Coach Nicole has a heart of gold and I feel beyond grateful for her time and commitment to myself and all of her athletes. I knew Bexar was the best, but was admittedly intimidated upon first joining. Everyone has been so welcoming and not only have I improved as an athlete, I'm also having fun. Stop in, check it out, join!

I been attending bexar barbell for a few weeks now, I definitely have enjoyed my short time here. It’s been great to be around a very strong community. Coach Brittany and Coach Nicole have definitely made my experience really welcoming and great to be in. I look forward to train at bexar and also train with a great group of supporting people. If your someone who is looking to transition from CrossFit to strictly Olympic weightlifting to work on your technique and gain some strength, or even just wanting a change in culture this is the place to come too. The vibes are great and the Atlhetes who train here definitely know how to make it a fun time to train as well. Appreciate Britt and Nicole for all you do for everyone at the gym. All the hard work that goes behind the scene to be able to coach all these athletes in every way possible thank you isn’t enough

Bexar Barbell is the type of weightlifting club that I feel everyone should be trying to find. Not only amazing coaches who care about the path of their athletes inside the sport but outside as well. Yet truly want to see everyone succeed at everything they do
It is also a warm and inclusive community that is cultivated from the top down.
I recommend them to anyone I know in the San Antonio region!

Bexar Barbell isn’t just a weightlifting gym..it truly is a family. As a mother of an athlete I was apprehensive that my son (D.J) would be able to continue with his other sports, teams, and activities however, Coach Brittany assured me she’d work with his school and outside sports schedule. She has stayed true to her word and we’ve been able to see amazing results from her work with him. Each member has been so welcoming to my son and treats him as a team member not just as some other kid. Everyone there is so motivating and encouraging towards each other.

I remember the first day I worked out with Bexar Barbell. A lot of times when I go into a new weightlifting gym, people are sizing you up, stand offish, and cliquey. But I had the exact opposite experience with Brittany’s team. Everyone was so welcoming and supportive of someone they didn’t even know. I knew right then that I found my home. I’m a remote athlete but I still feel so included & close with the team. Brittany gives more than 100% to her athletes. She is very knowledgeable with programming and technique. She fixed issues in a few days/weeks that I’ve been working for MONTHS & YEARS to fix. She would literally sacrifice anything to see her athletes reach their goals. All you have to do is train & recover and Brittany takes care of the rest.
With that being said, this is more than a team. More than a gym. More than a program. This is family.
