Big is a very special place. I started yoga as someone who had never done it before to someone who it is now standard daily practice. My go to instructors were Meggie Monday and Tuesdays and Rae Thursday and Saturday mornings, although you really can't go wrong with any of the instructors. You leave having a good sweat, releasing any emotional baggage you came in with and an amazing workout!
I recently moved from Houston and am trying to find a new yoga studio and nothing compares to Big, the culture, the space, the flow.

The true purpose of yoga is to prepare the body for meditation to reach an enlightened state of consciousness.
It would be AMAZING if this studio would hold longer quiet space after the class for the students to absorb the full benefits of the incredible practice.
Or even offer meditation as a class, 60 min yoga and 30 min meditation after.

I had a fantastic time during my first class at Big Power. Meggie was such a friendly, knowledgeable instructor. She runs a great class, and she focuses on the idea that each individual defines their success while also motivating you to challenge yourself. The community is great - the ladies in the class welcomed me and made me feel like I belonged there.

I used to think I was in pretty good shape until I started coming here. Six months ago my first class dis-abused me of that idea. I've done a lot of running, swimming, biking, bootcamps and kick boxing, but this is more challenging, imho. The reason I wanted to try yoga was because I've always done a lot of construction and manual labor (in hot climates) and I while I never really got injured I thought that as I got older the chance of injury would go up. Seems to me that yoga helps condition your core and your back a lot more than other workouts. The heat also helps. I was working in the bottom of a metal sewer tank in July in southern CA. We were bent over turning wrenches all day and one guy could barely walk after that; the other guy had to go throw up. I was fine! And those guys were younger than me!

People complaining about parking, I get the frustration. But it’s Big Power’s parking. Be mad at the other surrounding places for not having parking. Or the city of Houston for not having more parking. If others took Big Power’s parking, their customers wouldn’t have anywhere to park. Towing happens all over Houston. There are signs everywhere. It sucks. Try not voting for conservatives every election. Just a thought. 👍

I absolutely LOVE BIG and the leaders who make it possible. I have been practicing at BIG since 2016 - it was the first community I felt welcomed into when I moved to Houston, and has remained a vital source of support and connection for me. The teachers here always offer professional classes with cues that make sense and help me to be present and in my body. At the start of the pandemic, BIG pivoted very quickly to offer classes online, which has been fantastic throughout Covid and is also super convenient as a parent. Highlights for me- not only can you find plenty of powerful, sweaty flow classes here - you can also take incredible alignment-based Devotional classes (Iyengar-style, with humor and lightness), and participate in community-based programs that go deep, into honing leadership skills and learning to live well. Thank you for ALL that you do, Nancy, Laura, Sarah, Gayatri, Janan and team!!!

One of the best overall yoga experiences I've ever had. From the moment I walked in and was greeted, I felt welcomed and cared for. I only got to take one class as I was just in town for a day, but the class was an unforgettable experience. The colors and design of the studio space were so much fun. The music was super cool, setting a great vibe. The ease of the whole experience felt so relaxing and inviting. The teacher (one of the owners), Nancy, delivered a powerful themed class that blew my mind. The heat was nice and high, lots of space, super professional and intentional in the way they set everything up. Super safe environment, and one of the best sweats I've had in months of practicing yoga daily. Can't wait to be back!

The class I went to was poorly taught. Instructor was counting very fast and Either sped through or omitted breathing instructions. Many in the class compromised their posture in order to catch up with the counting. I’m ok fit and yet only finished 1 sequence after instructor finished counting the 3rd one. What good does yoga do to you if energy is to be squashed instead of harnessed?
The below remarks are more personal (than above) so feel free to take it with a grain of salt. 1) I feel stressed out in this class, I wasn’t looking for a cardio session at a yoga place. 2) I caught instances of instructor smirking when students are struggling with the pose instead of trying to help fix their posture.
Ask yourself if you want to compromise form & breathing for speed. Or if you want the illusion of a good workout (because you sweat a lot). If the answer is yes you should come here. Otherwise preserve your energy and seek better instructions elsewhere.

I feel so fortunate to have found BIG Power Yoga. I started practicing on January 16, 2017 with the 40 Days: Stretch Yourself challenge (having never done yoga before,) and now I am a devoted fan. The teachers at BIG are amazing - knowledgeable, encouraging, supportive, and challenging, they communicate every movement and expectation exceptionally well. I have learned so much, not only about the physical practice of yoga, but also how to get outside my head and focus on what my body is doing in each moment. The community of yogis at BIG is like nothing else I've ever experienced. The teachers and staff make you feel like family, and the positive vibes are enough to turn anyone's bad day around. I actually think it would be impossible to leave the studio worse off than when you went in! I look forward to going to yoga 5-6 days a week, which is a new experience for me. BIG has two studios in town with a variety of classes every day - you are sure to find one that suits you. Sign up for a class now - you will be so glad you did!

I absolutely love this place! I usually leave feeling my happiest and ready to take on the day! The instructors are great: very enthusiastic, positive, knowledgeable, helpful with adjusting poses, and provide an overall great experience. My only complaint is that some instructors burn incense in the studio during the class which makes me feel like I can't breathe, throwing off my focus and making me feel weaker/light-headed. If they can consistently keep the incense outside the room during practice, my review would be 5 stars.

Awesome Yoga! Over the summer, I signed up for the $40 for 1 month of unlimited classes. I was a little nervous at first, since I had never really done a class before, just some poses a friend taught me, but I decided to take the plunge and it is a great place! This yoga studio has two yoga rooms, one smaller and one very large room. This place is more of a "tattooed/dreaded/"alternative" studio and I really like the young/alternative/college student environment.
I really like that this isn't a silent studio and audible breathing is encouraged in some poses with chanting "om"s to start and finish the class. I also liked the laid back/not-taking-themselves-too-seriously vibe here: the instructor said don't forget to smile and have fun! Best part of the class, I LOVE the cold lavender towel at the end of class that is placed over your eyes while you are relaxing. What a fantastic way to finish out! There is a great juice bar inside as well and a great way to get some nutrients in your system after a class. Everything is fresh and made to order. If you haven't been here and are interested in going to yoga, whether your first time or if you've been plenty, try this place out. You'll love it too!

If you are looking for a yoga studio where community is valued, Big Yoga has it. The moment I started at Big Yoga, I was addicted to the people and the atmosphere. The teachers are wonderful and always happy to help and talk after class.
Big Yoga specializes in hot power flow yoga, but they also have some traditional classes mixed in too. The studio itself is painted with warm colors and it always smells lovely- like a relaxing herbal tonic. They have chalkboard walls too where inspiring messages are often written.
The class itself can get crowded, which makes it hard for the instructor to give you special attention. However, when the class is smaller, the instructors are right there with you making adjustments. The classes seem to fly by- whether you do 1 hour or 90 minutes... sometimes there is music to keep you going.
One aspect of the studio that I really like is that the big yoga room faces Buffalo Bayou Park with a wall of windows. The natural light is really nice- and when its raining, the sound and view of rain trickling down the windows is so relaxing.
The best part of going to a Big Yoga class is HANDS DOWN the cold lavender eye towel they give you during savasana at the end of class. The feeling of having that cold towel on your eyes when your body is hot and sweaty is SO refreshing.
Again, the community aspect is spectacular. Big Yoga often has classes in between the blue trees on the Memorial / Waugh interchanges when the weather is nice. They also have $5 flow classes and Stand Up Paddleboard yoga in the summer.
Try to stop by on the last Thursday of the month- they have a really fun yogi dance party class with a DJ! It gets crowded though, its just too much fun. FInally, the late night glow flow is great too- its usually not as crowded and the class is done by candlelight. It is a wonderful way to get ready for bed time!

Big Yoga may just be the most relaxing place in the entire city. Seriously, we live in Houston, people, the traffic is terrible and the road rage even worse. But swing by Big Yoga and all your cares will be forgotten! The instructors are calm and helpful, and didn't even bat an eyelash when I had go straight into child's pose after ten minutes in their heated room. Don't even get me started on that cool lavender eye towel they give you at the end of class. I have dreams about that cool lavender eye towel...

Big Yoga is an amazing community of awesome people! I've tried a few other yoga studios around Houston and this one is by far my favorite. It's not pretentious at all, everyone is simply open to whatever stage you are at. From beginner to advance they always find a way to challenge or help you throughout class. I love that the teachers all have a different flow to class so it never gets dull. They are also very hands on which has helped me when I'm struggling. Tip- get there early because parking does fill up fast.
