It bums me out to rate this place low because they offer a great variety of yoga and sculpt and it’s a convenient location. But after missing my third class due to their lack of parking availability, I’m over it. I shouldn’t have to arrive more than 30 minutes ahead of my class time to fight for a few spots down a narrow street, especially when the establishment next door owns a parking lot with hundreds of spots. Pony up, pay them for space, and make it accessible to people who actually want to attend your studio.

Black Swan still pollutes its studios with Palo santo smoke and other toxic incense despite the fact that 30% of the population has either asthma, emphysema or allergies. These “smudging sticks” emit toxic VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) like menthofurane, benzene, limonene an a-terpineol just to name a few. Countless medical journals have listed agents like these as dangerous to humans as they can disrupt you mucus membrane and cause tissue damage in the throat and lungs, resulting in headaches, nausea, itching as well as long term chronic and acute illnesses. It’s the last thing you want when you are trying to engage in deep breath work or excercise. Find a studio that doesn’t pollute the air you’re trying to breath.

I used to feel proud to be part of this community, but not anymore after what I saw today. A woman in front of me at check-in mentioned it was her first time and that she was an EBT holder. I felt glad to see her there since BSW promotes yoga for everyone. But instead of welcoming her, the instructor, Rylie, kept pressing her about how much she wanted to donate—suggesting over $15—even though the class is supposed to be donation-optional. She looked embarrassed and ended up leaving. It was really disappointing and disheartening to see, and his attitude completely changed how I feel about this place.

Classes are great and so is Black Swan Yoga, but parking at this location is an absolute nightmare. There are no reserved spots for Black Swan Yoga in the vicinity, and all nearby lots say they will tow you for parking for Black Swan Yoga purposes.

I’ve missed several classes here because I haven’t been able to find a parking spot in time to attend the class.

The biggest lot nearby is unavailable and all surrounding lots are “permit only” - available for other nearby businesses.

Lexie is the kindest soul I’ve met in a long time and a wonderful instructor. To be quite honest I had no loyalty to a specific studio but she’s what keeps me coming back. Super helpful, kind, and her energy is infectious, it radiates throughout the studio and you can tell she truly cares. Some days I walk in like a zombie but I leave feeling like a brand new person. Upon leaving colors are brighter, my anxiety about whatever it may be for the day is gone, and I exit the studio into a “new day” even though it’s already that new day. 10/10 recommended if you’re looking for more than just “a class”.

I have been coming to Black Swan for almost a year now and I absolutely love it. Not only do I love it, I need it. I deal with a lot of stress and anxiety and adding Black Swan to my (almost) daily life has helped me tremendously. Not only do I love the flows/onnit classes and to get a good workout, the instructors may be the best part of Black Swan. I hope they know the difference they make in my life and other peoples lives. They bring so much peace and joy to my life. They are truly inspiring and the reason I continue to show up. Cheers to the hiring department, you have some really amazing, motivating, raw, REAL, down to earth people working here and I couldn't be more thankful! Black Swan is truly a special place and I am so happy it is becoming part of my lifestyle!! Thank you Black Swan!!!

BYS has amazing instructors. They enrich my practice with kindness, challenge me physically when I'm ready, and allow me to comfortably and freely explore and play.

This studio is smaller than others. Evening classes get pretty packed, making parking very difficult. During the week, afternoon classes are less busy and parking isn't bad.

The instructors are always amazing!

I absolutely love Black Swan, especially Aly’s Hot Onit class! Feeling a bit sad since Aly hasn’t been on the schedule lately. Her positivity as well as understanding of everyones individual journeys have pushed me to not give up, but to - with gentle understanding - celebrate my abilities when doing hard things. The class is the perfect combination of animal flow and upbeat vibes. Hope y’all bring it back soon, I miss it!

Used to love going here back pre-pandemic. Apparently it wont let us register for a class anymore and says to call the studio. Not feeling the namaste from this experience.

I've been going to BSY since I moved here 6 years ago, going to at least 1 class a week. Though it is not my homebase for yoga, I have frequented many classes consistently throughout the years.
It makes me sad to see the quality of teachers have really decreased over the last 2 years. Does management even take their classes, or just hire anyone who puts in an application?
Teachers rarely give a warm greeting upon entering, I'm lucky if I get maintained eye contact and a smile!
Classes have become more like aerobics than yoga, with little focus on breath and some transitions dangerous for beginners.
And $5 dollars to rent a mat, really???
Hope that BSY steps up their game in the future.

- Donation based but everyone gives 10 or more making you feel like you need to give at least that.

- There are no warnings that all these classes are hot yoga classes. Be warned as they do not let you know ahead of time.

- Also they will not let you in until the class is over so if you have to use the restroom do it before you go as there are no places nearby to do this.

- Classes are advanced and are not beginner friendly. Recommend going to another yoga spot before trying this one as the heat makes these classes more intense.

JJ - His Onnit classes (as well as his vinyasa flows) are all you will ever need to keep your body peaking physically. Nothing but strong - almost palpable -positive energy. He literally glows during class as he pushes you to new level each time. A true teacher of spiritual goodness and physically dominance.

Dave - put his yoga knowledge, energy, and experience in a blender and you get a wonderful cocktail of refreshing and empowering yogic sessions every single time.

Rachel - positive + more positive + humble + beautiful = you...leaving class glowing inside and out. Greatest way to start a day.

Felicia - Her voice, tone, and beauty combined with a mastering command of yogic instruction puts you in another dimension of serenity and growth.

Stephany - Strength for days. Confidence for miles. A textbook instructor that instills technique and form to your current routine to refine your workouts.

Eduardo - A walking example of physical optimization. He finds muscles you never knew you had and combines their use with every other muscle making your whole body work in unison for maximum physical growth and health.

BSY = Something for everyone. Hands down. Thank you BSY.

My favorite yoga studio in Austin! Black swan is a donation-based yoga studio just west of downtown Austin. I came to Black Swan when I was training for a marathon and needed a break from pounding the pavement. Not recommended for beginners or anyone who has not had the chance to fall in love with yoga at another studio. I had the misfortune of meeting the owner of this studio, and his negativity nearly turned me off of yoga completely. I have been practicing for over a decade and have been to numerous studios, and this one is by far the worst I've been to. The classes are mediocre at best, but the energy of the place is horrible, and after meeting the owner I can fully understand why. The studios are pretty dirty with no atmosphere whatsoever, the "sweaty" class is particularly drab (to put it nicely.) I personally know three instructors that used to teach for Black Swan, but who had to leave because of the immaturity and downright nastiness of the management. Additionally, the "donation" aspect of this studio is an absolute scam. They claim to be donation based, yet you must "donate" at least $7 per crappy class, and the huge signs recommend $10-$15? Hmm so $10 a class, let's say, 3 times per week comes to $120 a month. Want to practice 6 days a week, as many recommend? That will be a small donation of $240! You can get a new car for that price! Or a private instructor in your home! You can get unlimited classes at a MUCH better studio for the same or much less than this. This is the kind of studio that the commercials and facebook memes are mocking. I would try CorePower, Yoga Yoga, or really any other studio in the city before throwing money and time away at this one.

You know, I remember driving down 5th street 4ish years ago and seeing a big ol' plastic tarp sign outside of the studio "BLACK SWAN YOGA". This curiosity led me to do some research and I found out that this interesting place was a donation yoga studio. I went regularly throughout the years starting when the minimum "suggested donation" was five bucks.

Although I'm not a yogi, I definitely know and understand that the yoga practice isn't just a trendy fad people use to get physically fit but it's a physical expression of one's search for transcendental knowledge. Black Swan Yoga merit's itself on as a center for anyone who seeks this path, even if they can't afford it. I gotta say, last night I went with someone to a class in the evening whose card was declined while trying to make a $20 donation. After multiple attempts and even offering to go to my car and get a form of payment after class (because they class was starting in 5 minutes) we were suggested to attend another class and to please take our names off the list. I was pretty let down by this, especially the fact that this center which claims to open their doors to anyone just turned down two people who couldn't pay immediately. I walked out just as surprised as when I found out about the place 4 years ago. The irony is undeniable, so much for "donation" yoga.

I recently got back into yoga (I’ll probably achieve my summer bod by winter when no one cares anymore) and from all the great reviews, I knew I had to go to Black Swan. I’ve been a couple of times before, but I recently became a regular and go approximately 3 days a week after work and sometimes on the weekend. The classes are great, the instructors are super helpful (especially for newbies), and it’s a great environment to relax.

Flow classes is a great place to start for beginners, and when you think you’re ready for the next step, I would suggest a Power or Sweaty class. Don’t worry, the Sweaty class isn’t like Bikram – if I wanted to do that, I would do yoga outside in Austin’s summer heat. It’s definitely hot, but just enough for a good class.

I love that you can go in whenever you want and there’s absolutely no commitment. You can go to only one class or every day, it’s totally up to you. Getting lazy and want to curl up on the couch with a pint of ice cream? No problem. Realized that The Bachelorette is on (Team Brooks!!)? Go to tomorrow’s class instead. You don’t have to prepay for a certain number of classes or anything.

It’s completely donation-based, with a $5 minimum donation per class with a suggested donation of $10-15, which is extremely reasonable since other yoga studios charge ~$12 for a single class. They also have mats you can use for a couple of dollars.

I first went to BSY because of their donation based model. When I walked out of one of their evening sweaty classes a few months ago I felt amazing and have been hooked ever since. I've practiced proper Bikram at another local studio, and although the "workout" was good, overall the theory/mission/principles were lacking and the pricing was far, far beyond a working class/non-middle class budget.

I would say that anyone who gives this studio less than a "very good" rating is not viewing it in a holistic way. The donation based model returns the modern, and sometimes alienating, Americanized yoga back to some of its fundamental roots- yoga is for everyone (regardless of class). And BSY is also in line with a dominant culture in Austin- aware, and, you know, a little hip. If you're looking for a more affordable and more approachable studio, this is it. Go to a sweaty class!

I try to go to Black Swan a few times a week and each time is always a different experience. There are so many instructors and classes that you can find a class that is right for you, as long as you are willing to try out different days/times. My personal favorite is Monday night class with Tyler, which is often a mix of sweaty yoga, power yoga, and sometimes even a bit of extreme yoga where most of the class has to take a short break at some point during the class. I've been to some of the more low key classes and some that focus more on form and had a great class, too!
