Highly recommend Black Swan, my wife and I have 2 special favorite instructors: Josh and Caitlin.

Josh is a stellar Hot Onnit instructor who is friendly and motivating, he often does the whole workout along with us which is useful when showing new moves and when you're new to the mace - he starts really simple and then builds on it as you're comfortable with it. He mainly does rock and alternative music with good beats. Don't be scared of the mace!

Caitlin is a great hot vinyasa yoga instructor who plays R&B, rap and soul and a bit of new age mixed in. She has a mix of fast and slow paced flows, all of which will get you sweating.

We've never had anything less than a great workout/mindfulness session from this studio, and will keep coming back.

First time visiting from Houston. The class was full. The vibes were off. There’s no spacers put down so of course some people needed A LOT of space. I ended up cramped next to a wall while others had almost 1.5 size the spot. Very inconsiderate and I feel It’s the studios responsibility to fix. Overall just not a great experience.

Love the energy of both studios! As a yoga instructor and practitioner, I enjoy taking classes from Erica and Sybil. So well versed and passionate about yoga, and they are student centered. They speak to your body, challenge you and allow you to go with your flow when you need to. You will also come out feeling challenged, revitalized, and renewed.

I really like this studio and the instructors. Classes are flexible and reasonably priced.
Although I enjoy most of the instructors one in particular stands out to me and that is, Magenta. She has challenging classes but they’re really well paced and streamlined. Her instructions are easy to follow and she has a great playlist that seems to sync up really well with the flow.

I have probably attended less than 5 yoga classes in my life but regularly exercise. I attended one of Caitlyn’s classes with a group of girlfriends. It was a fantastic experience. She really sets a warm, welcoming, low stakes environment. I loved her intro about just being yourself and letting go of societal standards, etc. It was very moving/spiritual without being over the top. Since I am not all that familiar with yoga, I just did my best, and she did not single myself or anyone out. By the end, I was dripping in sweat, felt challenged, was well stretched, had learned several new yoga poses, and felt ready to conquer my day and begin anew. I think it was a great class, and I highly recommend this instructor for new to advanced attendees!

The exposed brick facade of Black Swan Yoga Downtown glows in the morning light. Inside, purple ambient lighting bathes the practice space where early arrivals unroll mats beneath vibrant sugar skull murals that pulse with psychedelic energy—an aesthetic fusion that feels distinctly Texan yet unexpectedly cosmopolitan.

The studio embodies conscious contradiction: industrial-chic with exposed ductwork overhead, yet warmly accessible through its radical donation-based model. In an era of premium fitness experiences, Black Swan stands as quiet resistance against yoga's commodification. No membership contracts, no aggressive upselling—just an elegant concrete reception desk where practitioners check in with disarming authenticity.

The 9 AM power vinyasa class fills rapidly. The mirrored front wall, initially intimidating, quickly proves instrumental for alignment checks during complex sequences. Practitioners position themselves strategically around well-worn loaner blocks, straps, and bolsters scattered along the periphery. For those without their own equipment, rental Manduka mats are available.

The 90-degree room hums with anticipation. An ERYT500 with specialized trauma-informed certification, instructor Caitlyn Garrison represents Black Swan's commitment to yoga that transcends mere physical practice. Her cues blend traditional alignment instruction with somatic awareness principles, though the studio's emphasis clearly leans toward movement over breathwork. Where many San Antonio studios incorporate extended pranayama, Black Swan's morning flow prioritizes dynamic progression and creative sequencing.

The space transforms as the practice intensifies. Ambient lighting shifts subtly, the murals seemingly coming alive during challenging sequences. Participants—diverse in age, body type and apparent experience—move through creative flows that feel physically demanding yet approachable.

What distinguishes the class is Garrison's trauma-informed foundation, subtly integrated without disrupting the movement-centric approach. During particularly challenging balance sequences, she offers modifications demonstrating genuine understanding that accessibility includes physical and emotional dimensions.

After fifty dynamic minutes, the final savasana arrives with surprising attentiveness. Unlike studios that rush this closing meditation, Garrison allows a full four minutes for integration—an unexpected luxury in a movement-focused practice.

Post-practice, community materializes organically. Practitioners linger, discussing sequences while browsing Black Swan's distinctive apparel line. The seamless indoor-outdoor transition—high windows framing swaying trees, a spacious entrance with red-black awnings—bridges the urban and contemplative, creating a sanctuary that doesn't feel precious or isolated from city life.

For accessibility, Black Swan offers multiple pricing options: their donation-based model suggests $15-20 per class with no minimum required; ClassPass members can book for just three to five credits; MindBody app users pay approximately $12 for drop-ins; and rental mats are available for $5. This pricing structure reflects their philosophy that quality yoga should be financially accessible to all.

Black Swan demonstrates that studios can maintain architectural sophistication and teaching excellence while remaining fundamentally inclusive. Their approach reads less as charity than as radical reimagining of how wellness spaces might function. For travelers seeking authentic local experience or residents looking for sustainable practice, it offers that increasingly rare combination: genuine substance wrapped in undeniable style, where neither overwhelming production value nor performative accessibility diminishes the transformative potential of mindful movement.

I never leave bad reviews, but I have to in this case. I've taken several yoga classes here and although the facility itself is great I am leaving a bad review on a particular instructor. My experience with Shari Lindsay has been disappointing. I come to yoga on my rest days to stretch and improve mobility, as I primarily focus on weightlifting. Today as my husband and I entered, I noticed Shari was giving the class and I jokingly stated to him "The last few times I had a class with her she singled me out but maybe I'm being paranoid." I'm fairly new to yoga and fully aware that I have a lot to learn. Yoga is not my strong suit, nor is it my primary source of fitness but I do enjoy it. However, Shari seems to single me out for criticism and she once again did it today, even when others make similar mistakes with their poses. While I appreciate guidance, her approach is harsh. A softer, more constructive approach would have been much more helpful. The fact that it happened AGAIN today further proved my point. I do want to add that I like Black Swan very much. It's a great space and although I do not come here often, I do enjoy it. Unfortunately, this experience has made me not want to return.

Have been a part of the community for about a year and a half and am excited for the new year!
I start my week with HotOnnit with Josh. It is a HIIT class that utilizes mace work with a yoga flow. It’s a great active rest day for some, and a very challenging workout for others.
If I can catch an early morning flow, I love starting the day with Gwen or Sarah.
Midweek I make a priority to grab a Tuesday or Wednesday evening class with Yessi. She has a great playlist and a new flow every week.
Connie is faithful to bring in the cosmic energy into her teaching, and I never leave Sheri’s class without picking up a new cue that helps my technique.

The pay what you can structure makes keeping a consistent practice attainable for all students, and am personally very grateful for it

Early Monday mornings with Gwen start each week off with harmony. She always walks to each corner of the room, speaks clearly & slowly so that every word out of her mouth is heard over music and any narrative loudly on repeat in your head. I am grateful for Gwen and her dedication to provide a consistent, positive and safe place to practice and grow through Yoga. Namaste!

Black Swan Yoga has become a sanctuary for me, and Caity’s classes are the highlight of my week. She brings the perfect vibe every time—her energy is contagious, and she knows how to keep things interesting, adding just the right amount of spicy challenge. I always leave her class feeling stronger and so glad I showed up. Her classes are often packed, and it’s no wonder; her students seem to reflect her positivity and enthusiasm, creating an amazing community vibe. Caity is fantastic at encouraging everyone to listen to their bodies; if something feels challenging, she always offers modifications, making her classes accessible and rewarding for all levels. These sessions aren’t easy, but the best things never are. Of course, she If you’re looking to leave the mat feeling yolked and uplifted, don’t miss Caity’s classes!

I’ve done yoga for about 12 years now and this is my favorite studio in San Antonio. I just moved back here from Miami and this is by far much better than any studio I went to there. The instructors have a great flow and the atmosphere is amazing. Gwen is an awesome instructor who provides great, deliberate practice that makes you feel accomplished. Caity also provides a cool experience that can be fun and challenging but not overwhelming. Best bang for your buck in the city!

I was visiting San Antonio for about 2 days, and I had been wanting to visit this studio for a very long time. Now I am from New Jersey, and me being a yoga teacher and also being from the east, we are known to be tough and sometimes abrupt, but I thought Texas was known for everyone being nice, and the person that I happened to come across at the help desk, who was also the teacher, was not a very personable person. She was dry, and honestly, her VIBE was horrible. What I should have done was look at her, roll my eyes, and just leave, but instead I took the class because I had already paid for it. I have taken yoga classes in other states and I have never felt such a vibe from a teacher before. I would definitely never go back to THIS SPECIFIC yoga studio. I just hope that their other locations they are a little nicer and their attitude isn't stank. I am just glad that my JERSEY side didn't come out.

I’m in town for work and as a professional dancer I need to make sure Im strengthening and stretching my body. My first class I took was from Christopher Ayres this past week and it was truly incredible. Extremely thoughtful and everything made sense. This morning I took the 10:30 flow and I almost had to walk out. From the music to the lights to the flow, I left feeling super chaotic and borderline injured. The flow didn’t seem to make sense and the transitions were wild. I love a hip hop playlist but as I’m fighting for some of the postures and transitions, the music and the lights at times became very jarring. I know the intention is never to make class feel this way but as I was also looking around, it felt like everyone was on the same page. There were people walking in and out of class multiple times. My two friends came with me and express the same concern. Yoga is suppose to nourish and improve the body and mind. I’m currently feeling a tad bit injured and extremely tight. This is a specific concern about the teacher as the class earlier this week by Christopher Ayres was one of the best classes I have ever taken.
My name is chris jarosz and I’m a working professional dancer/teacher and have taken yoga for over 12 years now.

Judy was an awesome friendly instructor and I had a great session. Personally I just like a more medative quieter environment to do yoga in. The music wasn't the right vibe and a little loud and I couldn't hear him much and couldn't really get in my own zone. I would definitely come back due to the friendliness and casual environment but if I'm looking for a more calm relaxing state after a session I'd recommend somewhere else! Overall great experience and perfect for beginners and the folks who get bored in silence!

Really love the facility and instructors but they pack people in like sardines. It’s uncomfortable being half an inch away from your neighbors, unable to practice poses correctly, getting hit by someone’s foot in front of you or hand behind you and everyone sweating on each other- quite literally. At first I thought it was a fluke, but this has been my experience with practically every class, especially evening classes. Other people have complained and asked for class caps, but doesn’t seem like BSYSA cares.

Cannot rave enough about this place! Everything from the instructors to the fellow yogis is amazing.

If you want an intense full body workout, Caitlyn (Caity’s) flow/power classes are where you need to be. I love the atmosphere she brings into every class. The positive nature of her classes are what I find myself craving most on my bad days. The class may be intense, but Caity always encourages everyone to move at their own pace & offers alternatives to most poses. The way she pairs her music with her flows is always enough to have me wanting to stop for a dance break.

If you are into deep stretching, Caity’s chill classes are the place to be. I always leave class feeling like my muscles are giving me a hug. She plays her many sound bowls at the end & that alone is worth going to class. I feel like I’m being put in a healing trance every time she plays those sound bowls.

Highly, HIGHLY recommend taking a class with Caity!

Learning to enjoy "working out" has been a battle I've been fighting for years and I've tried countless gyms and studios hoping to find a solution to my problem. The first time I stepped into Black Swan Yoga it was like a lightbulb went off in my head. This is the place I've been looking for! I go 3-4 times a week and now that I have an unlimited membership I plan to use it as much as possible. BSY is welcoming, empowering, and inspiring. Every single class I attend is a little different and I love that I'm always switching things up. The instructors are so kind and non-judgmental- they encourage you to go at your own pace and always offer assistance if needed. I started attending classes at BSY in August and the progress I've seen in my own body and mindset has been transformative. I can't wait to see the changes I go through over the next year! If you're looking for what I feel like is the best yoga environment ever, you won't be disappointed with BSY! I've also gone to one of the locations in Austin and it was great, too! Can't wait to visit more locations throughout Texas.

Amazing teachers, solid technique, beautiful building, clean facility, & friendly people. I’ve been practicing yoga since 2008, and this place is my favorite to practice yoga at. Their heated room is a perfect fit, always challenging but very satisfying. I adore this place. I admire the owner who is a hard working woman! Please go and try out this place! So affordable and the best in town.

This is one of my favorite new yoga studios in San Antonio! I was so happy to hear that BSY was opening a local studio, and my first class did not disappoint. Beautiful studio space and attentive instructors, plus a flexible schedule with early and late classes, makes Black Swan Yoga a great addition to the San Antonio yoga scene!

My first time ever doing yogo. The atmosphere was so relaxed and comfortable. The instructor Denise was patient and guided us along in the new venture. Loved it and been back. I love the payment options as my schedule can get tricky and it's hard for me to commit and it helps with several class times available.

This yoga studio is amazing!! It’s very unique like no other. The location is great, right by the Pearl, historic downtown San Antonio. The teachers are experienced and great and the schedule has plenty of classes from early morning till late night most days. Definitely recommend!!
