Staff is very outgoing. More than a climbing gym. They also have yoga and fitness classes. Best part is the full gym with a lot of weights without any wait. Only thing stopping them from 10 out of 10 is no sauna / cold plunge but you get so much for your dollar here.

We hosted my son’s 6th birthday party at Austin Bouldering Project (Westgate) and had such a wonderful experience! The kids had their own dedicated rock wall, and even with 15 kids plus parents, the space worked perfectly.
The staff were helpful and accommodating, and our party helper, Gabe, was fantastic—he kept the momentum going with games, helped organize the kids, and made sure everything ran smoothly.
I had wondered if one room would be enough to keep the kids entertained for the full two hours, but it absolutely was—they never stopped climbing and loved every minute.
This turned out to be such an easy, unique, and memorable party choice—especially for our rock-loving 6-year-old. Highly recommend!

Been to a couple of gyms across the country since I stop on road trips, ABP had the coolest route setting by far. Took a while to understand the layout but other than that great gym. First visit is free, staff was helpful, gym was clean and community was nice. Not much more to ask for.

Desk staff were great (and deserve a raise 😉)! Including Mrc, Ff, and the guy who gave me beta whose name I didn’t get. Setting was neat. Gym was clean. Plenty of non-climbing equipment. I wish my home gym had a yoga room and yoga classes like this one does. Not sure how packed it gets on weekdays and non-mothers days, but I never had to wait more than a few minutes for my turn.

What I like as a woman who sometimes climbs:
Staff: From day 1, it was easy to become a member because the staff helps explain how everything works and sets up the acct. Someone helped me to buy shoes by letting me try on tons of pairs and giving me advice about fitting. When I walk in, I'm always greeted by name and smile, even on a busy day. Instructors acknowledge me in or out of class. They are knowledgeable and helpful.
Community: Even if I show up to climb alone, it's easy to talk to other climbers about routes and techniques. People will cheer me on and it feels great. So many times I find other women climbing and we end up climbing together which is fun. In the fitness classes, many people are regulars and will form little bonds. Some of my best friends are people I hang out with at ABP throughout the week.
Climbing: for me it's ok. I tend to like some areas more than others. Most days there is tons of space to climb and it doesn't feel too packed. I'm not a fan of the smaller, darker area off to the side. Maybe it's a lighting thing, or that it feels cramped and like I'm in someone's way.
Fitness classes: love and adore the circuit, mobility and movement playground classes. Now that there is new gym equipment I really hope they'll create a new weight lifting class (currently there's only one on Fridays). The yoga classes are absolutely varied by style and instructors - and they are great. I love the studio, especially because I use the space when it's empty.
Gym - full of new equipment.
Bathrooms/showers: I don't like that they are separate. They need a proper locker room, with a sauna and cold plunge like at Springdale!
Parking: abundant!

Trying to sign waiver for me and my family--website is sending me round and round in circles, and logging me out, when I try to log in, the login button has no effect. No waiver, no climbing, so basically just turned away. Website tech isn't that hard, just get a better group to make it work.

It's a really good place to go rock climbing and usually not too crowded. It's also suitable for any skill level, if you're a beginner, don't worry! There's walls for you here! If you're an advanced climber, dont worry theres walls for you too! It's definitely a harder place for short people to come and climb, but that makes it more fun! You get to challenge your body in ways you didnt realize you could! Overall a great place and I highly recommend going here!

Overall a great climbing gym, with fun and interesting routes. It was extremely crowded when we visited on a Thursday night, I think there was a kids/teenager climbing camp there. I kept being afraid I was going to fall on a kid 🙈
It cleared out to a normal level when they left.

If you just want to boulder ABP is the best gym in austin. They have two great locations with friendly staff and all the equipment you could ever need. Both locations are huge and selecting a problem won't be an issue. The sets are varied and have plenty of problems for casual or beginner climbers and plenty of tough stuff too. Their weight rooms are large and fully equipped.
TLDR
If you don't plan on rope climbing and you live in south or Central Austin ABP is the place to go.

Incredible climbing gym, weightlifting, and yoga facility. The routes are reset frequently and the staff is friendly. Normally way less crowded than the Springdale location, except during kids’ evening classes. Very community-oriented—we see lots of friendly faces anytime we come in. Definitely good people and vibes.
The staff is constantly updating and adding equipment in response to feedback. The weight room is the most female-friendly I’ve ever been in.
My partner and I just moved to Seattle, and SBP does not compare. We miss ABP Westgate so much!

intended to only come for bouldering one afternoon. i read that there was a good variety of problems for beginner-intermediate climbers and i found that to be true. nice space and everyone seemed friendly.
as i was stretching to cool down, i also found out there was a yoga class happening soon. my entry fee included classes so i thought, "why not?" and really enjoyed the class. would recommend for the bouldering, classes, and the gym/fitness area which looked well-equipped.

Big fan of this gym and community! Any time I'm in town, I make sure to hit up one of the ABP locations. I am more of a rope climber, but since everyone is so friendly and nice, i become a boulderer every time I am in town!
The staff and the community are what key me coming back! The grades for their problems seem a little inconsistent, but I also know that setting is subjective, so that's a tough one. The wall variety is great, the hold selection is great, and it's overall a great gym!

1 star for the blatant disregard and disrespect. I have two very clear, strongly worded signs in front of my door very clearly alerting anyone who approaches that I do not want to be bothered by solicitors or sales or advertisements of any kind, yet you left your trash on my door any way. How hard is it to respect private property?

The walls are fun and the gym is excellent, also there's a great rest/community space and the classes are great and challenging
For the price though, you'd think they'd provide towels for the (nice) showers. Also, it sucks that you have to go to Springdale to get the cold plunge and sauna benefits of your membership as they're not here

Overall, this is an amazing gym. The routes are fun, and well within the listed ranges. We went early morning on a weekday, and it wasn’t crowded at all. Kids are closely watched by staff and parents which is wonderful (and not my experience at my home gym). My only issue is that Kaya isn’t currently updated, so if you struggle to read routes, some climbs aren’t even listed so there’s not really a way to look up possible beta. This could be a rarity, however, so I would still highly encourage going!

Great bouldering gym. One of two ABP locations in Austin, the other being Springdale. In my opinion the setting here is a little more difficult than Springdale, which isn’t a bad thing at all. I get a great workout every time I climb here.

My son really wanted to try indoor rock climbing so we decided to check this place out. I called ahead of time to see how it works & was told about the kid’s climbing room and that I could come any time that day. I said perfect and I would see them in 1/2 hour. I got there and they said the kid’s room was closed for a birthday party lol. They said most weekends it’s booked for birthday parties so no clue when kids can actually climb. It was hard to explain to a preschooler that we can’t do what I said we were going to do so we just went out for ice cream. Staff didn’t really seem to care at all & I wouldn’t try this place again. .

What was once a favorite place for my children is now unwelcoming. Kids shoved in one tiny corner, staff hovering over you when a child goes to get a drink at the water fountain because they “should be supervised” for this. If you have more than two children you are no longer allowed in the premises because you are an only allowed to supervise two children at a time. One of our children had to sit on a bench while the other two played. I was told I needed to “actively parent” my children in an aggressive manner despite standing in front of them. Sounds like this place is now being cheap and wont hire staff accordingly. A large portion of the area is petitioned off for maintenance yet no discount, half the kids play area is boarded up. The staff clearly don’t like kids despite the place being empty. Crazy how quickly a place can go downhill. It used to be so welcoming. This place has more rules than a nursing home. Save
your money, I won’t return.

I had a membership here for six months or so. I used the gym frequently. The place was always in order, clean, and far as my limited knowledge of bouldering gyms goes, it is nice, but I have some complaints.
1. Treadmills are very close to the wall and if you fall or pass out, you will be pinned between the spinning treadmill and the wall.
2. There are no mirrors in the weight lifting area. They aren't needed for selfies, but for checking your lifting form on the many squat racks that you provide. If desperate, you can use the back door glass at night.
3. Most importantly...a lot won't care, but the main reason that I canceled my subscription is the clear pandering to the LGBTQ+ community. The entire place looked like a pride float for the Month of June, but then July 4th came and went without a single American flag hanging in the building. The pride flag was still hanging when I canceled my membership in September though. I put this all behind me and quietly canceled my membership, however, I had not opted out of the marketing emails. This June I received an email advertisement for a drag show occurring in the gym. The same gym that has a large section dedicated to CHILDREN. I've been to a few drag shows and not a single one has been child friendly. Its just not possible. Let the gay bars do the drag shows, you are doing something more important, giving kids a constructive hobby and community.
If you want to have a gym, have a gym, stop pandering, if you want to continue that's your prerogative.

I love this gym! The classes are great (Sunday mornings with JJ is the best circuit class!), there’s lots of equipment, and tons of climbing terrain. Love the newest section they just built. There are lockers and showers too if you need to freshen up after your workout. They have a youth climbing section, an upstairs comfy workspace with couches and tables, they sell snacks, they sell climbing gear/accessories, and the staff is AWESOME. Like, the best. I do wish there was more than one treadmill, and sadly this location does not have a sauna, but other than that it’s a great place and I enjoy spending time there!

The group classes say first come first serve, but that's not the case here. It's first come save 1 to 2 spaces and sign their friends who come late first serve. Basically half the class was taken up by people saving spots for them and their friends. My second time here and already disappointed. My main reason for joining was for the handstand class.

Awesome spot. As the same suggests it’s all “bouldering” and there is no belaying so when you fall you fall on a thick mat. I’m addition to the climbing walls they have a regular gym and various instructor led yoga classes. They also have a lounge where people hang out and work. Weekdays usually aren’t very crowded and even on the weekends it’s not hard to find a space to climb. All skill levels welcome - colors indicate difficulty of the route.

Really enjoyed my visit to this bouldering only gym. The quality of the holds and route setting is very good. The walls have good texture, and it was easy for me to find climbs at my grade level. The staff was very friendly. I was traveling and forgot my shoes, and I was able to buy my favorite shoe in my size, which was amazing. A good crowd showed up around 5pm, I found it easy to make friends. There were climbers of all skill levels. There were styles of holds I had never seen before, so that was a treat. Amenities seem plentiful, there were nice showers and locker rooms, plenty of cubbies and water fountains around. Very impressed, wish I lived nearby! Would visit again next time in in town.

Parents be wary - the only safety feature is a padded floor. We didn't know this ahead of time, otherwise we likely would not have gone. There are rocks and other objects that stick out along the wall. No harnesses, helmets, or other type of padding. My daughter fell from 8-10 feet and broke her elbow. The manager has not called to check on us (as of 48 hours later).

Went to check out the gym today, & it looked great, but was denied use because of my service dog. 😬 I have a medical condition & he’s a trained medical alert animal, not a “therapy dog” or “support” animal, & I’m completely empathetic to companies being sensitive to the qualifications of animals in their facilities. However, after two uncomfy conversations the most the staff would allow was for him to be inside off the mats, which would mean I couldn’t actually boulder at all if I was by myself (assuming I stayed with him & maintained control of him, which is *my* legal responsibility) or would have to rotate heavily with a partner & would not have him near enough to me to alert. Per ADA law, it’s technically illegal/discrimination to prohibit a service dog... wasn’t worth pushing the fact & my boyfriend just got us a refund so we could go to Crux, who were lovely. Not sure if this was just a one-off thing where the staff on the floor weren’t properly educated or if it’s a company-wide issue, but for others who utilize service dogs, I wouldn’t go here. 😬 Facility looked nice though! Sad we didn’t get to try it out. // UPDATE: Since people are still viewing this, wanted to update and say that the following week, ABP reached out about the incident and could not have handled it better. They apologized and we talked through what adjustments could be made in the future... I so appreciated it. How people respond after mistakes matters!!! Wanted to make sure I gave them credit where it's due.

Came to check out the gym since its new and my buddy has a membership at ABP. Was told I couldn't use his guest pass since I've been to the original ABP 4 or 5 years ago. Ive been climbing for 12 years and working in the industry for 7, I've never been told I couldn't use a friend's guest pass at any of the 100 or so different gyms I've been to around the country. The grades also felt petty soft even accounting for using a circuit rating system. Ended up going to the original location which I definitely enjoyed a lot more.

Smaller than the Springdale location (about 60% the size) but still plenty of space and enough routes for climbers of all experience levels. Uses the same color-based, V-grade system as the other ABP. The routes are great with plenty of variation. My only complaints are that the new holds are brutal on your hands (will get better over time) and the gym and work areas, while large, felt sparse when I visited on opening day. So room for improvement but a great bouldering gym nonetheless.
A few things: no top rope, bouldering only. The gym is in a strip mall, parking isn't an issue if you're fine with walking a bit. Close to Whole Foods which is nice for a post-workout snack or drink.

The Bouldering Project is at it again with a much-welcomed second Austin Bouldering Project located in the Westgate shopping center. It's easy and quick to get to being located right off 290, and grabbing some food after a climbing sesh or workout at the Central Market just down the street is a huge plus. The high ceilings and overall open layout help make it feel like a big, open space. However, I think there is ultimately a little less climbing wall space than the Springdale location. That being said the quality of the setting more than makes up for it, as well as the great mix of slab vs steep walls and tall and short walls. The staff is as polite and helpful as ever, and I look forward to seeing how things evolve and settle as time goes by.
One of the biggest plusses is that if you become a member at one Austin Bouldering Project location, you automatically have access to both gyms!
My biggest disappointment is no saunas, but you can't have it all (or you can, it's just a 15 minute drive across town to the other fantastic ABP location).
I really do feel a little spoiled by ABP, but by no means am I complaining. The Bouldering Project has definitely established itself as a premier indoor climbing gym in Austin and is doing a phenomenal job at helping expand the climbing community and in a more inclusive manner. I can only imagine this new location will help further that. Thanks ABP!
