I had a wonderful experience with John and can’t highlight enough of his expertise as a personal trainer and in strength and conditioning world! I had the opportunity to do a personal coaching session with Nadia, and it was a truly positive and grounding experience. From the very beginning, she communicated clearly and gave me her full attention. She took the time to ask thoughtful questions and really listened to my goals, which helped her tailor the session to my needs.
Even though she came prepared with a plan, I could tell she made adjustments based on what I shared about my fitness level and experience. She explained each exercise thoroughly, often demonstrating movements alongside me, and offered helpful corrections in the moment so I could get the most out of them. Throughout the session, Nadia was encouraging, motivating me to push a little further while also checking in to make sure I was doing okay.
At the end, we had a debrief that stood out just as much as the workout itself. It wasn’t only about reflecting on the exercises, but also about what I had learned, what I might want to carry forward, and how I felt after the experience. That conversation became one of the first moments in a long time where I could really breathe and receive earnestly. My family had recently gone through a traumatic situation with my mother, and I had been carrying the weight of hospital visits, long drives, battles with insurance, and long stretches of solitude. Meeting with Nadia broke through that heaviness. It was the first time in weeks that I had fully engaged with another person, and with myself.
That debrief was more than professional coaching; it was a grounding moment of genuine care. I believe God placed her in that moment to extend something I truly needed. Nadia didn’t just train me physically; she created a space for connection, and for that I am grateful.
Nadia is attentive, compassionate, and intentional, qualities that shine through not only in her coaching, but also in who she is as a person.

He's not your average personal trainer- he really takes the time to study the imbalances in your body and gives you corrective exercises that get you out of pain and help keep you there. On top of that, he delivers a kick-ass workout that actually feels tailored to you and your goals. You will leave sweaty and feeling great! I’ve been training with Community Strength Austin for over a month, and it has been an incredible experience. I’ve worked exclusively with Steven, who is AWESOME, but it’s clear that every trainer here is knowledgeable, skilled, and are equally as commited to a vision for excellent training. Three things really impressed me:
1. The workouts are fresh and not-random.
As a former student-athlete who still hits the gym semi-regularly, my first question was whether this would feel any different than working out on my own. The answer: absolutely. Every session introduces new exercises, but not randomly new, it clearly build on my goals. Even traditional movements like bench press or sit-ups often come with a pretty clever variations that target the exact areas we discussed. Plus, they have also corrected form and techniques I never learned in sports or at the gym.
2. They listen and REMEMBER.
From my very FIRST conversation, they’ve kept track of everything: my injuries, my fitness level, and my health goals. I never have to remind them. My knee is recovering, my cardio isn't where it use to be, I want to lose x amount of weight, I'm training for this sport, and certain movements trigger foot pain that makes a workout hard to continue. Even if your list is longer than mine, they'll remember it all. In fact, they’ll remind ME, explaining how today’s workout is tailored to protect and strengthen around a recovering knee, while still pushing me toward my goals.
3. The challenge is perfectly balanced.
This isn’t a drill-sergeant style workout where you’re pushed until you drop, nor is it overly cautious to the point of holding you back. Instead, my experience is that they strike as perfect of a balance as possible, challenging enough to make every session worth it, but mindful enough to keep me safe and motivated.

I can't recommend my trainer, Gabi, highly enough! Since starting with them, I've seen incredible improvements in my strength and overall fitness. My bench press has increased by 30 lbs, which is a significant boost and has really helped me build confidence in my lifting abilities.

I’ve been working with Syd for maybe 3 months now and could not be more pleased. I grew up an athlete and have recently had a lot of muscle loss and wanted to be confident in the gym again and build some muscle as well as stability after a major back surgery. My trainer Steven is awesome and an outside the box thinker. Honestly, ive had other trainers in the past and when i tell them i have specific goals that are unorthodox or am hurting in a certain way, they just default to a standard strengthening program. My wife and I joined community strength because we wanted to focus on our health this year and make better lifestyle choices. I’ve been working out with Steven for the past month and he’s been able to quickly identify all of my weak points and subsequently torture me as we work on them haha. It’s my first time ever working with a personal trainer and having him hold me accountable has truly been great. Especially when it’s most challenging.
I have also had some right shoulder issues for many years. We’re talking 15 years! He’s been able to help me make the most progress I’ve ever made in one month. Perhaps just as impressively, I have struggled with a herniated disc for the past two years that I sustained while deadlifting and Steven suggested an unconventional tiny tweak while sitting at work that has almost completely mitigated all pain. I’m not easily impressed but he truly has helped me make the most significant improvements in just a few short weeks that doctors, chiropractors, and a physiotherapist were unable to achieve in years.
I’m only a third way through this training program and I couldn’t be happier so far! I hate the workouts, but I also love them haha. I guess that’s how it should feel :)

I've trained with Coach Steven Harris and he is great! My main focus was to build strength and make sure I do the exercises with proper form. When I was very new to the program, Steve was very thorough in his assessment and always checked to make sure I was feeling confident and really understood the basics before we progressed to the next level. After moving to Austin I was on the hunt for a personal trainer. I came across community strength, and immediately after talking to John on the phone I knew this was the gym for me.
The gym is a very clean, intimate space with all the equipment you need. John was very thorough and knowledgeable during the initial assessment to determine where I was in my fitness journey. I love that they have the option for semi-private sessions with 1-2 other people.
Syd is a fantastic trainer, explaining all the movements in detail, pushing you to hi harder and upping your weights as you get stronger. I also like that you can give feedback on the movements you prefer and kind of customize your workout.

I have not been to Community Strength Austin, I actually live in Chicago, IL, I’m posting this review for one of their trainers, Gabi. Before moving to Austin, Gabi was my trainer and coach in Chicago. We trained a lot in boxing, many forms of strength, endurance, agility and flexibility, among many other physical fitness areas. Gabi is a competitive fighter(a hell of a boxer) in boxing and Muay Thai. She’s a student of combat sports and exercise science, continuously refining her craft to developed new and unique techniques to benefit her clients. After reflecting on my experience training with Gabi for over 2 years, I felt compelled to post this. Simply put, if you get hooked up with Gabi, consider yourself extremely lucky. She’s a phenomenal trainer to say the least, with a wealth of knowledge and experience in a multitude of different training styles and techniques. When you get Gabi you get workouts focused on you, specifically. Whether you are a seasoned veteran, or a rookie in the gym, Gabi’s got you covered. I will finish with this, on top of being an incredible trainer, Gabi is a tremendous person, with a huge heart, friendly, bubbly personality and a welcoming demeanor. I could not recommend her more highly, we miss her terribly here in Chicago and know you gym goers in Austin will find her as remarkable as we do here in Chicago

I've worked with Community Strength for about a year. They have a coach that can help you reach any fitness goal you have in mind. They have successfully coached me through a body building style cutting phase where we purposefully maintained muscle mass and dropped approximately 5% body fat to get in to sub 15% realm.
Most recently, I have been working with Steven. Our goal has been to gain muscular endurance in weight training and increase cardio capacity. His expertise shines in his supersets combining heart elevating plyometrics or cardio machines with controlled compound movements. Fantastic personal training! The gym itself is a no-nonsense space, everything you need, nothing you don't (like crowds or distractions). Everyone there is friendly, focused, and ready to work.
The trainers themselves are also top notch, and Syd has been amazing to work with. She's engaged, focused, and knows her stuff.
My workouts have been tailored to my goals (resolving some movement issues and imbalances while adding muscle), the week-to-week progressions are setup to target my deficits very well, and the results have been much faster (and more obvious) than I honestly was expecting.
Syd handles all of the stuff that creates "mental noise" I'd struggle with on my own, and pushes me harder than I would myself (but safely). The workouts are the most effective and efficient hour of my week.

After losing weight I noticed that I had also lost strength, muscle mass and looked flabby. Getting out of bed suddenly required effort. For these reasons I was on the lookout for private training. I’m one of those who really don’t enjoy exercising but I’m vain enough to rise above the occasion and do something about it.
I thus visited and tried a few health clubs. I picked Community strength Training and never looked back.
As a woman in her mid 60’s who is well read about diets and fitness I didn’t have much hope to rapidly improve my muscle tone and strength. After a couple of months though I could tell the difference, I looked better and felt strong and confident in my physical abilities. I’m prone to all sorts of injuries but both Kit and John, made sure my form was correct. They kept track of the proper weight I could lift and adjusted exercises accordingly. They both have extensive knowledge about physiology and nutrition They knew when to work through the pain and when to stop. I have not felt better as I do now in a long while.
Chatting with Kit and John made the sessions go quickly. They are both delightful and kind individuals who care about progress and reaching goals. As a certified couch potato I would never have thought that I would enjoy my time and would want to continue training over there.
Aside from top notch instruction, the facility and the equipments are kept spotless and there are plenty of parking spaces.

As someone who had basically no experience at the gym, I was extremely nervous about getting started, but right from the start John (owner and manager) reached out, had me take an online nutrition test and a free physical assessment, and gave me advice and options as to what he thought he was best. I have been working with Jordyn, one of the trainers at CSA, 3 days a week for the past few months and if you are lucky enough to work with her, she brings both expertise and energy that can very quickly take you from feeling lost to feeling like you belong at the gym. Working with Community Strength Austin makes you actually want to go work out. Both Jordyn and John are wonderful coaches, giving me the confidence to start from scratch. I’ve seen results very quickly, tangibly seeing and feeling myself get stronger and more confident each session.
One of my favorite things about John, Jordyn, and Community Strength Austin is their focus on both improving your habits in the gym and in the kitchen. They have a high focus on nutrition as well as exercise and even go as far as to provide recipes and plans for every meal of the day, if you want them too— but fear not, they are also flexible and understanding in making things work for you and are never judgmental.

I've had my fair share of volleyball-related ankle and knee injuries in the past that still affect my jumping & general mobility to this day. John has helped me improve mobility in these areas (in addition to full-body strengthening) without excessive strain or risking re-injury.

Have been training with John for about 3 months now. I've seen a clear improvement in how I look. When I started I had issues doing day to day strength related things. And the goal i gave John was to be able to easily do a set of pullups. Although I don't feel like I've gotten to where I want to be yet, I've made a ton of improvements. I can do about 3 pullups without issues, while before I wasnt able to do any. What I noticed the most in my day to day life is getting out of the pool, on the side of it, is a breeze now. I always used to struggle with it before. Also the rope swings at Barton spring was always scary for me, because I wasn't able to hold onto the rope easily. Now I'm able to enjoy it fully with no worries.
I highly recommend signing up, this training helped me in my life tremendously and there's a lot of variety in which exercises we do.

John also does a great job tailoring plans to my needs as a runner and my goals, while also bringing his in-depth knowledge. What I've come to appreciate and value in his approach, is his ability to explain why we are doing the exercises in the plan, in a way I can understand them. It's refreshing to be told "why" versus being told just to "do". And with all that, John is personable and flexible to my often-changing schedule. I'd highly recommend working with him and team!

I am grateful for the work that I’m put through, the encouragement that I’m given to push, and the reminders that I am indeed improving. Showing up to the workout is the most important part, and the rest is all about trying your best while an amazing human guides you and pushes you through all doubts. I’ve learnt more about my own physical and mental capabilities than I could have imagined. This has allowed me to get stronger and build endurance to do the things I love the most.
