My kid loves going to taekwondo here. The instructors are great! They are so patient and know how to be fun with lessons. They also teach them valuable lessons for life (i.e. respect, self confidence, self defense etc). All the kids there seem to enjoy the lessons. My kid is always so excited for his class.

My 5 year old daughter has only been attending Excel for a few months now, but I can already see amazing changes in her.

Aside from how much fun she has, my daughter has started to learn that practice and discipline lead to self-improvement, which has excited her and makes her want to practice more. My daughter is learning, through martial arts, that the "pay off" for practice is her own improvement and she loves it. She has also become more deliberate in her actions and thinks a little more before doing impulsive 5 year-old things (they still happen, but with less frequency...she's 5).

Master Choi and Master Carmen are also great with kids and extremely positive influences. They use different exercises in classes to keep kids engaged, challenge them to improve themselves, and encourage them at all times. Their weekly challenges often involve the kids helping around the house, or showing respect to their parents. It's not just kicks and punches at Excel. They help kids genuinely better themselves through martial arts. It's really great stuff.

If you are looking for a place to start your kid off in martial arts, I highly recommend Excel. I honestly don't know how they could be better.

**2 year update**

Our daughter started at Excel on 3/4/23. Two years later, she's still in love with this place and so are we. She went through their "Tiny Tigers" to the juniors class and is developing impressive skills and physical fitness.

It's more than the classes though - which are fantastic. Master Choi and Master Carmen have built a near-family atmosphere here. The kids are friends and socialize before and after class. They push each other and work together to get better. My daughter is closer to her Taekwondo friends than most of her school friends. Adults get to know each other too, and we all cheer on each other's kids.

Yes, it's a martial arts school - but it's so much more than that. Enrolling our daughter was such a good decision, we enrolled our son as soon as he was old enough.

This is a top-notch martial arts school. If that's all you want - you found it. You or your kid will learn Taekwondo from highly skilled people here.

If you want more though - that's where Excel...excels.

It’s been a few years since our first review so I wanted to give an updated one. Our kids continue to love Excel Martial Arts! Our granddaughter Sophia started with Excel in 2019. She was 4 years old and a quiet little girl. She would cover her ears when the class would say their student creed. Now 4 years later she won 1st place in 2 categories in her first ever martial arts tournament. The difference is Masters Carmen and Choi. Their experience, how well they are with the students (whether kids or adults) and the families. I wish I can find the right words to mention all the great things we (especially my daughter) have experienced at Excel Martial Arts, but I know I will have missed a few things after posting this review. That said, my daughter joined Excel MA at 4.5 years old (Tiny Tigers). She joined as a shy, timid, run off the mat crying kind of student; however, it has been the mix of patience, discipline and fun that both Master Carmen and Master Choi provide that has enabled her to find her confidence. She loves doing her "homework" to earn her green stripes which entail practice, clean up, healthy eating, etc. She loves the Parent Night Out activities when they come around. I have noticed a huge difference since joining, and I hope this has established a foundation to build on with other future extra curricular activities. My kid is a month over 4 years old, and after just one month in class he's learned skills and discipline that i didnt think were possible at his age. Master's Choi and Carmen are incredible at connecting with the students, and provide a fun and educational class to direct the students energy in productive ways. The class gives parents additional tools to help out at home as well. Kids are expected to clean their room, be nice to a sibling, or pick up after themselves to earn green stripes each week. My kid has grown to love that sense of achievement. Lastly, it's a great way to bond. For my kid, there is nothing more satisfying than kicking through a board. Practicing his kicking techniques at home has been a ton of fun, and a great way to expend some of his limitless kid energy. They offer a $20 trial that comes with a shirt, and several lessons- if you're considering it, I would highly recommend taking advantage!

Both of my daughters attend Excel- ages 4 and 8. I have seen them both grow in their skills, confidence, and joy towards learning new skills and speaking in front of their peers. As a parent, I love the structured but fun environment from Master Carmen and Master Choi that includes in-class learning of Taekwondo and lessons on how the teachings extend to home life (being respectful, cleaning up after yourself, developing a Yes I Can attitude). I highly recommend Excel Martial Arts!

My son LOVES Excel. As a mom I was concerned with where we enrolled when my son kept asking me to go to "Ninja School". Excel came highly recommended by other mom's in the area so we gave it a shot. After his first class I knew we were at an amazing facility with dedicated and professional instructors. Your kiddos will learn a lot and love the experience as well! I know we are so glad we tried them out. My son has already become such a great helper at home and very respectful as well. It is more than just learning martial arts, it is also helping to develop our little ones into amazing individuals too.

This is absolutely the best martial arts school in San Antonio. I have seen my young child grow confident because of the skills she has been learning here, she is motivated, proud and excited to keep going.
Master Carmen and Master Choi from Excel Martial Arts are wonderful, they really know what they’re doing and amazing with kids.
