I joined a few days ago and I'm enjoying this gym. The gym is clean and they have quite a bit of equipment. The staff is very friendly and helpful, a young lady who signed me up took time to explain the membership and gave me a tour. My reason for removing 1 star is because with other similar gyms I've joined at least gave 1 free personal session or meeting with a trainer who helped me set up my fitness goals macros etc and just a simple guide to help with my success another con is that they require a 1yr commitment, I don't think anyone should be forced into such a long contract. I would respect even 3 months at a time but since I'm on a fitness journey I took the plunge. I joined at the highest level which offers the body scan, I was told to just go scan myself, while it wasn't a difficult task I would have appreciated some assistance. Aside from that, all the classes I've attended have been quite challenging. The instructors are knowledgeable and helpful. If you're someone like me who do better in a group session and find it challenging staying motivated, I would highly recommend this gym. They offer a variety of classes and evening schedule which was a plus for me since I work. I searched many other gyms around and many didn't offer group classes or the few that do only had classes in the mornings, midday or very limited afternoon classes. This gym thought of everything to meet everyone needs which I know is not easy to do. I would highly recommend.

The gym itself is amazing, but the customer service / management is HORRIBLE. Im an Active Duty Marine and moved to North Carolina in May. Unfortunately I failed to cancel my membership prior to the move, this is on me! However, when I called to cancel i was told it had to be done online or in person only. When I went online to cancel, MULTIPLE issues with the website across Maye/June/July wouldnt let me cancel my membership, and these issues were confirmed by management. However, they were adamant that unless I could come in person, nothing could be done. The GM and Assistant GM wouldn't even speak directly to me, only talking through a regular worker even when I was on the phone. This, combined with the 30 day policy, means I will be charged ANOTHER month (now $300 total) and they refuse to even attempt to work with me on a resolution. There are comparable gyms in the area, avoid this spot at all costs until management can figure out how to treat clients.

This is the first gym I’ve committed to. When I started my journey just over 3 months ago, never having worked out a day in my life I knew finding the right gym would be specific for me. I would just know. I tried about 4 other places before I got here. I tried the free 7 day pass. By the end of it I was paying for the membership. I enjoy this gym so much. I come 6 days a week and I feel like it’s. Home. I recommend it to anyone who’s looking like I was for that place. I’m also a mom who brings my daughter. She’s 13 so she’s on the floor with me but they have a kids area too. Which is amazing. Nothing but good things all the way around!

My husband signed up for a 7 day trial pass today and received a call regarding this. He was told that he could come in for the tour but could only work out if he had a Conroe or Willis ID. We live in Spring but he works down the road from this location in Conroe. I understand that each location has different policies but I don’t understand not being able to workout in the gym before signing up for a membership. He was told that if he wanted to work out he would have to sign up or pay for a day pass which is $20. As someone who used to work in the fitness industry, I’ve never heard of not being able to try to the gym after a tour unless you purchase a membership or day pass.

This gym is trying to be a good gym but it just is not. They are not 24hrs. They have way too many members and classes that take primary space. If you work a real job you wont have time to workout here . They charge legit-gym prices but are more like a basic gym with their accessibility and hours. I've gone to several Fitness Projects through out the years, however, the Conroe location has always been my home. All of the staff members have always been friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Briana at the front desk is sweet and easy to talk to. My daughter is enrolled in the child care center and she has such a wonderful time each time we go. Signed up for a 7 day trial that was advertised online and on the App. When we arrived there, the staff was in shock since they’ve never heard of this trial. They asked us to be seated to get info from us. When we sat down, she told us that we needed to have ID’s with our current address listed with the designated approved areas. Since we just moved to the area and had our out of state licenses, we couldn’t redeem our free trial passes. The only way we could access the gym was to sign up for the membership. This was a huge disappointment and we told her we will go elsewhere since they won’t honor what was advertised. We have gone to other gyms with no other issues. Take down the false advertising so that people won’t waste their time only to be forced to sign up to a gym. Do better!!!

I moved to this gym after relocating from Porter to Conroe. While I was initially disappointed by the older, somewhat rusty equipment, that’s not the reason for this review.

I was looking to hire a personal trainer and was told to leave my contact info—someone would call me. I waited patiently for two weeks… no call. I returned, left my information again, and requested a follow-up ASAP. Another 10 days passed—still nothing. On my third visit, I asked again and was reassured. Four more days—no contact. I finally decided to seek help elsewhere.

When I asked to cancel my membership, explaining the lack of communication and follow-through, I was told I’d have to pay a $100 cancellation fee—just $40 shy of the remaining balance.

It’s not about the money. It’s about how I was ignored and dismissed as a customer, without so much as an apology. I’m extremely disappointed.

Hair everywhere in the locker room & shower stalls... shower curtain rings are so old they are rusting apart and the curtains are moldy.... rickety old weight machines that need repair and make popping grinding squeaking noises..,. very unhappy with my gym experience and ownership is unwilling to refund or cancel my contract even though I've moved 45 minutes to another city.

I’ve had multiple gym memberships with different gyms. But never had such a horrible experience as I have at this gym.

I canceled this membership for me and my wife due to us moving and was told that it was for both of us as requested and that the cancellation would be complete by end of month. My wife called to find out they never cancelled her membership…. The front desk staff is clueless and honestly was no help. I’ll never go to a Fitness Project again. When I walked in to inquire about a membership I was met by a very rude male staff member. I don't remember his name, but he got upset because I didn't want to sit at the table for 30 minutes and talk about membership prices. I first asked if I could take a tour and he asked if I was even planning on joining. I replied Im not sure yet I would like to see what the gym has. He then told me I would have to sign waivers and that he he didn't have the time to give me a tour because he was the only employee on duty to work the desk. This guy was so pushy, unprofessional, and rude. I will never give this place a dime. I remember when this place used to be Gold's Gym...Fitness project is sleazier with their slimeball sales tactics. I have a friend who told me the gym is dirty, broken equipment, etc. Don't waste your time.

I had a negative experience at this gym due to unprofessional staff behavior. While waiting for my friend with a membership, I was permitted to use the restroom. I witnessed a situation at this gym that made me question its management. A guest using a buddy pass was waiting for his friend with the membership to check him in. He asked the front desk if he could use the restroom, and they allowed him to.

I had a really bad experience at this gym. I was using a buddy pass and waiting for my friend with the membership to let me in. While waiting, I asked the front desk if I could use the restroom, and they said yes.

When I came back, the same staff member who let me in suddenly started stressing out, searching for me in the gym, and then told me I had to leave until my friend arrived. Then, the manager got involved and started raising his voice at me, demanding to know why I was inside. I explained that I had permission, but instead of handling the situation professionally, he kept pushing the issue and making a scene.

There was no reason for this situation to escalate the way it did. If this is how they treat guests, I can only imagine how they treat members. Definitely would not recommend this place.

Just moved to Conroe area hoping for a nice gym community. This gym is clearly not the place.

I signed up for a 7 day guess pass online and I got two phone calls within minutes both about visiting the gym for a tour but not to give the pass. They said the manager has to review the request and authorize it. Next morning I got a call asking me to come in so they can activate the pass. I come in and they denied giving me a pass since my Driver’s license still had my old address. I explained my situation and talked to two different people and they still refused to give me the pass they promised on the website. There was a kind lady ahead of me who had guest privileges on her pass and she tagged me as a guest and I was able to work out that day. The facility seems clean and the weights seem descent. But in order to get weight clips, you have to trade in some personal item as collateral. Never heard of such trust issues in a gym before. Website also mentions a sauna but this gym location has shut down their sauna indefinitely for some reason.

Overall I wish I could’ve been part of this gym , but I can’t in good conscience join such a rudely run facility. I wish a Crunch gym would open in Conroe somewhere, that’s where I worked out before my move. They were stellar people compared to the ownership and management here

So far gym is nice but it does get packed after 5pm of course. They have (2) rooms that they use for group classes but when classes are not going on the room is empty and we are NOT allowed to use the rooms.. which is kind of silly to me since I’ve always been able to use those rooms at other gyms I have attended.. I usually use those rooms to do my own workouts away from the crowd with smaller dumbbells since I’m pretty new to the gym starting off again this year so that was very discouraging I would like for the gym to reconsider. They also have a sauna that is not working and I’ve heard it hasn’t been working in years. They have a room for massage therapy but you have to pay separately for that! Some machines are pretty old you can hear screeching when using. They change an initiation fee that is $36.92 and will be charged again in March $42.22 (apparently it’s an annual fee everyone pays) and I got the second membership that is $18.94 (bi weekly).

I checked out this location today. It is pretty big. They have a lot of cardio equipment, plenty of free weights and machine weights. They have what you need for most people and most workout programs. They do have a kids club as well which is great. I did not see a pool but they do have a suana. The staff members I encountered were all friendly and the facility was clean.

That isn't a deal breaker for me since I don't like saunas. The gym is also pretty crowded and they only have one of some of the more popular machines so there is often a wait. I am not a fan of some of the counter staff. Received a warning for using my phone number to check in even though I have been coming here for five years regularly and this is the second time I have checked in that way in that period. It has literally been years since I have needed to do so. I could see if I was a repeat offender or there was a line behind me but I am not and there was not. I had a different set of keys today and the app was not yet installed on a new phone. Wrangling a just turned two year old in the lobby with already full hands didn't seem ideal, I was unaware it was such a heavy offense and would prefer he flag my account next time. 🙂 Maybe signage to highlight the gravity of the offense at check-in would be a good thing to do as well.

Just trying to cancel the membership itself is a pain in the butt. The manager, Canyon, isn’t helpful at all. I’ve had to piece together that they charge a 19.50 late fee on top of whatever your membership fee is, you can’t cancel online because the website is not working, if ya don’t have a working vehicle, you’ll still pay the money because they won’t cancel it for you.
Instead of saying, I need you to sign this cancellation form, they only say “you need to come in or cancel online, I can’t do it for you.”
As being in previous management, I’m shocked by the lack of information they give you. Definitely expect the run around here.
Oh and if you want to cancel your membership, it’s gonna cost ya $100.

It’s ok. First, the staff is very nice, always friendly and attentive. The actual gym however isn’t the best. The pictures are pretty misleading and make it look like everything is brand new and it’s the complete opposite. Besides the cardio machines, everything else is ancient. All the weight equipment looks like it was from an old high school gym or ymca. It’s also super cramped. You can barely fit in between squat racks to load weights. There’s just way too much stuff in the whole space. Dumbbell area is super tight, floors are uneven. No room to do lunges or mat work. The area where they have a push/pull sled is tiny. They don’t have barbell clamps or pads, I had to buy my own. They also don’t have many cable attachments, no vbar or single handles (had to buy my own, I think they literally have just 1 handle). It also isn’t the cleanest. Bathrooms are up-kept well but the actual workout areas and equipment are dirty. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of options in the area but I would have rather spent the money for at home equipment over a membership here. My old gym was a VASA that was cheaper and waaaay nicer, bigger.

Great gym! I've been going here for about a year now and love it. The staff are very friendly, equipment is kept maintained and clean, and not too crowded( at least if you go 2 hours before closing like me 😅) if I have to critique it I would say there are 2 things to improve upon 1: Fixing the sauna. I love this gym, but the sauna has been out even before I joined the gym. From what I have heard over 2 years and it really should be fixed. And any possibility of a pool or other similar things would be greatly appreciated. 2: Maybe be open a little later on Fridays and Saturdays.

Can’t say enough good things about this gym, the machines and fitness classes are top tier. The staff here is amazing, very friendly and attentive. Micaela is the sweetest , seeing her friendly smile as I walk in is the best! Bathrooms and areas are always clean and stocked. My daughters love the kids area, they have a playground and daycare staff often have activities and crafts for them.
Fitness project definitely caters to everyone’s lifestyle and needs. Highly recommend!

If I could leave zero stars, I would.
What a damn joke of a company. We signed up for a 1 year contract. Upon signing up they promised “HUGE” improvements, one of them including a working sauna. We’re going on 2 years now of our contract being over and they are still charging us, sometimes even $40 randomly. We have been charged $18.39 every 2 weeks for almost 2 years because they didn’t tell us that after the 1 year contract was up, we had to cancel ourselves. I have called several times to cancel and have been told “you have to come in to cancel”. I’m not always able to just get up and go to a gym to cancel a membership that should have ceased after the 1 year contract. I called today (10/11/24) and was told I can cancel online, BUT what they don’t tell you is that you have to pay $40 for that as well. I’d love for management to get in contact with me to discuss this. But they won’t because they love their money and to scam people.

This place is the best and I’ve been to A LOT of gyms in the past. Dawson, Seth, and Preston have been extremely helpful and we love Katie, Harmony, and Stephanie in the kids club! I always feel confident my kid will be well looked after while I’m working out and I’m a hard one to please in that department. I’ve also never mentioned SIX people in one review in my life. The only reason I didn’t mention more is because I’m bad with names

The place is busy but you should take that as a good sign. I do fear for January, though, as we already have to wait for certain machines. Coming twice a day is helpful in that regard.

The only issue with coming twice a day is you can’t use cryotherapy or hydro massage tables twice a day if you add them on to your package. And who needs them more than those who come twice a day? Feels silly.

When signing up, I disclosed that I don’t sign up for gyms with contracts because I don’t trust them. I work with contracts on a daily basis. Dawson gave me the contract to read and gave me plenty of time to review and make sure I was comfortable with all of the terms and conditions. The amount of people who don’t do this is unsettling.

The app is also great. It’s a great reward system for staying disciplined.

There is no "free trial" I cancelled the membership because the gym wasn't all that of the price .
After I asked to cancel I was told that it takes a month for the cancellation to go through and yes I will be charged twice for it even though I've expressed I don't want it anymore.
If you want to try the gym out don't fall for their "week free" it's $15 to even get in but you do get a month of "no cancellation fee" but keep in mind you will still have to pay for the membership a month after cancellation.

Great gym! The spin classes are the best! Les Mills is good, but the Freestyle classes are great! The staff in Conroe are very helpful and friendly. Canyon and Linda do a fantastic job coordinating to make every member feel welcomed. Great place to workout.

Horrible management director. The reviews are in fact TRUE. They tried telling me when I signed up that people just didn’t like him for racist reasons but nope, that was a lie. He is rude and condescending. On another note, the daycare staff is a hit or miss. Some are great, some are super young girls that have no idea what’s going on. My son walked out with a deep cut on his face from another kid. No one knew what really happened. They don’t allow you to talk to the parent or even know who hurts your kid for confrontation reasons. They also won’t even suspend the child until they’ve done it 3 times. Therefore I had to cancel my membership on the spot.

By far my fav gym to be apart of. ReStarted my fitness journey in April after having kids and it has been a pleasure to be here. Not only are the staff up front and the kids care staff absolutely phenomenal, super sweet and caring. But so are mass majority of the patrons, if you need help almost anyone is willing to help or spot. The place is clean and if there is an issue with a machine they are quick to address and fix it. Personally I have really appreciated them and all they do. It’s not just physical and wellness but getting to know people too.

******UPDATE****** Since they took the time to respond to me, I told Jalen I have not lived in Conroe since this building was a Golds Gym. I never had a membership. Again not worth the price, and definitely not worth losing money. If you don’t believe me read the other low reviews and they will say the same.

Extremely disappointed in the sleezy gym tactics here. Just moved to the area and wanted to try out a few gyms before committing to any long term which is very normal, fitness project Conroe lured me in with a free 7 day pass, but when I got there I got the run around from Jalen at desk immediately tried to get me to sign up and I told him I was trying a few gyms this week and only wanted the trial pass. He took me to the desk and said I was already in the system so I couldn’t do the pass AFTER HE JUST PUT ME IN THE SYSTEM. Absolutely ridiculous I bought the day pass for $22 got my workout and will not go back. This is the type of gym that will keep charging you months after canceling your membership do not go, basically just a more expensive planet fitness with sleezier tactics. Maybe it was just Jalen at the desk, maybe it’s the chain in general either way there’s better gyms in Conroe.

Perfect balance of challenging Les Mills classes, great instructors & music to motivate all ages. I don’t use machines or free weights but know many members who do and they are very satisfied. Treadmills, ellipticals & recumbent bikes are well maintained. The club is always clean, a plus in these days with Covid still lurking around. I have been a member for over 10 yrs & I really appreciate the mgmt style of the director, Cannon, who has been here for 4-5 yrs. A great improvement over the past.

Rude employees. Absent manager. Completely wasted my time by coming here. I came in and spoke to Aiden about activating my 7 day pass. He was weird and dodgy on day 1. After basically having to pull teeth to workout for the day even through they are the one offering the pass, I come in the next day and I’m denied. Aiden gave all kinds of excuses but didn’t say even one thing that made sense. He asked if I wanted to talk to the manager but it wasn’t worth it at that point. Besides that, there is honestly nothing special about this gym.

I am currently in collections. Despite going into the gym in person and writing an email, the staff at this gym and ABC Financial fraudulently reported that I owe them money. My contract ended and I moved, so I made sure to do everything I was supposed to and still have to deal with this headache. This isn't even a good gym. Texas Iron Republic, Freedom Gym, and Legion are superior facilities and have zero issues with cancelling.

However if you're looking for a gym with childcare I'd say you're better off elsewhere.
We have gone to the YMCA & crunch fitness and the child care was hands down better.
The staff in the child care area at FP has absolutely no patience for children and most of them don't seem to even like kids. They will also decide if you are fit to be a parent and accuse you of bad parenting or in home abuse if your children, who are siblings, don't get along.

BETTER OFF LITERALLY ANYWHERE - I write this review with the full understanding that there is a universal and fundamental issue with ALL gym contracts. Here's my issue with Fitness Project: Conroe. I signed a 1 year contract for a membership for my kiddo. The sales person was super friendly and helpful. He sat us down and went over each section of the contract and gave us all the main points. He explained how we could cancel once the term was up: "No big deal, you come in and sign and the membership gets cancelled". I call recently and confirm, just pop in for a quick signature and it's all set. Boo on me for taking his word for it. In the meantime, I am charged an annual fee and then informed there's a 30 day waiting period to cancel, during which I'm expected to continue payments. I spoke with the "manager" today when I tried to cancel and the interaction was POLAR opposite to my initial encounter. He was defensive and short with me, offering me one word responses and walking away repeatedly to fill a cooler with energy drinks, however he was kind and engaging to everyone around me. Here's my advice, if you're considering a membership here: don't. There are a million other gyms in Conroe with owners that aren't out to scam clients and are willing to train their management to do more than fill coolers.

Wow, waste of time and the employees are liars. I was wanting to join the gym. Went in had the tour. They did the whole speech. I showed them an email I received offering 30 days free $0 enrollment. The blonde at the front desk with glasses says oh I don’t see that promo when did you receive it, I received it today 11:45am. Oh I don’t see it, we only offer 2 months free right now. I told her I just got this email today and was told this is active. She said oh I see it now but it’s not working, let me ask. Okay so I see that but it’s still going to be $75 to start up because you have to pay for the start up kit and donation. I asked what the start up kit included she said, we show you around the gym and how to use the machines and you get a week free of classes. I told her I wasn’t interested in the kit and she said it’s mandatory. I left and didn’t sign up. Turns out she lied to my face. I called the woodlands location project fitness and was advised the kit is INCLUDED in all memberships and it includes a body scan, also I was told the mandatory start up is $15 and in 2 months a $45 gym fee. So not only is this employee lady a liar, she wasted my time. Don’t waste your time here with people who are trying to rip you off and lie straight to your face.

I joined the Fitness project easily within the matter of minutes. They were quick to take my money. Now that I relocated out of state it’s like an act of Congress. They continue to take my money from my banking account and the service is pitiful. They won’t respond to emails, and very few people know what the others are doing. I highly recommend to stay away from fitness project.

The sauna has been broken for at least 5 years. The gyn took out the sensor to refill your water bottle. Lame. Staff give the same excuses they have been giving forever. Pathetic. Amount and selection of classes are slim. Much less options than the past. Staff also made extremely rude comment when I arrived. I just wanted to come in a do a class in peace. I didn't come in to hear rude comments. The gym needs to step up and at least do the bare minimum, like fixing the SAUNA and put water in to refill water bottles. Right now they can't even do that.

I'm just disappointed, I'm been a member of this gym since it was still a gold gym and I don't have any issue but lately every time I came late the people always want to close the gym early, just like last night Thursday night I came around 8:50 and the staff Said the gym will close at 9 and I have 10 min to use the gym, but in their website it say it close at 12 am during weekdays, and exactly 9 pm the staff turned off the lights while people still inside the gym, I hope management will fix this problem!

I love coming here. They have a daycare and give you 2 hours to work out. Most gyms don't have daycare at all. My kids look forward to coming. They have a variety of fun team classes, I do some team training classes. The price is very reasonable as well!

I love BodyStep and am extremely sad that in all likelihood this class will be going away. The one and only instructor that was doing the class, Jay, has stepped, pardon the pun, away from doing the class and ever since the attendance has went from, on average, 10+ attendees to maybe 5 on Tuesdays and 2 on Fridays. It has nothing to do with the program, it is the instructor. Jay is flamboyant, energetic and interacts with the attendees. Not to say that the new instructors do not, they do, it is that Jay was, is topnotch on a higher level and if he is not there, people will not come. Not me, I will be there until they take it away, which I'm sure will be soon. Again, this saddens me as I have been attending the gym since it's inception.

Canceled my membership when it was golds gym at the end of 2017 and get a call today that my Account was sent to collections due to unpaid membership fees. After calling them all they say is there is nothing I can do. You will have to take it up with the collections agency. Do not get a membership here. They will continue to take your money and screw your credit score for years to come.
They also claimed to have no record of me signing the cancellation form. Which I did. So they want me to pay for their mistakes.
