Awesome facility, 2 of 3 the Managers are extremely friendly, the cleaning staff is courteous as can be, the members are phenomenal (EVERYONE cleans equipment after using) but the majority of the staff/trainers are gym snobs.

I've been a Golds Gym member for almost 2 1/2 years now going to this location, Jackson, Mission, Dove, and even Harlingen... however this location on McColl is by the far worst and is embarrassing to the other locations.
The cleanliness of the woman's locker room/bathroom is horrible and I don't know why.
There is a constant putrid odor, the toilet seats are always dirty, there's always trash/toilet paper on the floor, one of the square seats on the bench in the corner has been broken for idk how long now. It has been this same way for almost 2 1/2 years now with no change. So past reviews and this one probably won't make a difference.
For a few months now it has been ridiculously hot. There is literally no AC and I know there isn't because when you step into the women's only area, you can feel the AC and the moment you walk out into the open gym it's just pure heat.

Been coming here for a while.

Cleanliness is a major issue. Cable machines are often a mess with weights and attachments left scattered. Trash cans overflow, paper towel dispensers are empty, and the restrooms—especially the sauna—can be filthy. The sauna regularly has footprints on the floor, broken wooden panels with exposed nails, and even gum stuck to the wood. One time, someone even left a used mop in there.

On that note, I once walked in on two people hooking up in the sauna. The guy ran off looking terrified. While that’s not the gym’s fault exactly, it says something about the overall vibe. And honestly, who knows what some of those sweat stains really are.

Customer service? Mediocre at best. Some staff don’t even look up from drawing on their iPads to greet you. Other times, they’re just chatting or scrolling on their phones. You can clearly tell the staff isn’t being held to any real standard.

Management is inconsistent. They’ve gone through two managers in the past year. One guy came in, seemed to really care, made some changes, and then left. Since then, it’s unclear who’s running the place, and nothing meaningful has improved in years—except for the occasional new equipment when someone new takes charge (briefly).

Amenities? Severely lacking.

No basketball court

Yoga studio is locked up and unused

Cardio cinema is basically abandoned and taking up space

Pool frequently turns green and stays that way for days

Boxing area is okay

Training turf is off-limits unless you pay for personal training

Racquetball court is good if you are into that (but just exacerbates the lack of space for the weights)

Studio and cycle classes look decent, but the yoga classes haven’t been updated in years

If you’re looking for a serious or upscale gym in the Valley, this might seem like your best bet—but only because the options are limited. And that’s honestly pretty sad.

Bottom line: Mediocre at best. Other Gold’s Gym locations are much better in terms of amenities and square footage.

Every time I come to this gym, everyone is so friendly and the gym is always so clean. It is definitely one of the cleanest gyms here in the valley. The upkeep of it is great, environment is welcoming and management and staff are extremely helpful and attentive. I love Golds Gym Edinburg!!!

I’ve been a loyal member of this gym for a while, but I’ve noticed a concerning decline in maintenance and overall quality.

The gym’s temperature has become unbearable—either the AC is off or it’s simply not working. This isn’t just a minor inconvenience; the stifling heat makes me feel nauseous and lightheaded during sessions.

The relocation of the cable machines has made them far less practical. They used to be positioned closer to the mirrors, which was ideal for checking form and maximizing space efficiency. Now, they feel awkwardly placed.

Floors are often dirty, mirrors are streaked, and worse—some benches now have a strong, unpleasant odor. Basic hygiene should be a priority, especially in a shared fitness space.

When I joined, this gym stood out for its high standards. Lately, it feels neglected, which is disappointing.

Whoever cleaned the girls area yesterday did a good job. I’ve been there a year now and was kind of considering canceling my membership because for the price, the girls area, girls locker room and just the gym in general was always pretty messy, never seems clean at all. Yesterday after a year being there was the only day I’ve seen it clean and can actually smell the cleaning products that they use so hopefully that continues. I have noticed there is only one girl that is always cleaning but To be realistic, it is a big gym so I feel like they need to be more hands-on with that. It can’t just be her. It is a gym so it does get gross in there and I wish I could use the sauna there and the pool, but I just always felt like within this year I haven’t been able to use those. Those things are the reason why I got a membership was for The sauna and the pool but since everything always seems dirty I never have used either. For the price I feel like they should really take more pride in keeping the place clean. Edinburg location.

I recently signed up for a membership at Gold’s Gym after seeing a promotion stating "No contract, month-to-month payments." The gym itself was nice, but it wasn’t quite what I was looking for, so I decided to sign up for another gym that better suited my needs.

When I went to cancel my membership, I was given an email address to request cancellation along with my membership number. I followed the process as instructed and was told I would receive confirmation within 5-7 days. However, the following month, I noticed I was charged again.

I called the corporate number listed on my bank statement, only to be told that I was actually on a one-year contract and that there was nothing I could do. This was completely unexpected, as the promotion specifically stated "No contract." I feel that Gold’s Gym is misleading customers with unclear membership terms and should be more upfront about their policies.

If you’re considering signing up, be sure to read all the fine print and ask specific questions about cancellations. I wouldn’t recommend this gym based on my experience, as I feel like they are not transparent with their services and expectations.

It is always so hot in this gym. When you ask to decrease the temperature, they just turn on the fan but sometimes that just pushes more hot air down. Also they put all the cardio equipment upstairs and hot air rises...I do like this gym because there's some good machines but I'm probably changing to planet mostly because the prices is better and it is 10 degrees cooler. I can have a better and longer workout when it is cooler. Multiple people have complained about this. I'm not sure why they can't decrease the AC :/

Awful. Had the same experience as others with the manager, Jesus. He has no customer service and tried to overcharge me for a personal training contract that I canceled. When I reached out to him he acknowledged he received my cancellation notice but since I “didn’t call him back” he didn’t cancel it. (This is not part of the required process to cancel!)

He and his staff also continued to “book” me sessions when I hadn’t stepped foot in that gym for 4 months! This meant the trainer and gym profited.

When I asked him for his manager or owner’s contact information to report his behavior and actions, he refused 3x to provide it.

The gym also retained my CHECKING account on file and charged it without my consent. I would remove it from my account and it would always be added back and charged wrongfully. I had to close the account.

Be very mindful of this location and what information you had over to them!!

Unclean hot jacuzzi. You can see the white and brown body fat stuck to the side walls of jacuzzi. They didn't bother cleaning that filth. The Pool guy said they change the water 25% every week or so, but what about the filthy walls? I stopped getting into that jacuzzi. I don't want to catch something.
Hot sauna in men's locker room gets cleaned like once a year I heard. With all that sweat and smell, you would think they'd do it weekly. It smells filthy. When they pressure wash the floors, you can just see the wood looking new.
For 2 years, I have been asking them to install a broken hook to hang clothes in the shower and a small shelve to place my soap dish on. Where am I supposed to put my soap while taking a shower? I also asked for extra hooks because you can only hang 1 or 2 things on that hook. Still not done.
Boxing bags fall off the worn-out chains and don't get put back up for 6 months. It happened a few times.

Horrible service. They kept making mistakes on the date I opened my account. I have been trying to speak to a manager for about a year to fix it and no one is ever available. Several members of the staff have admitted they had poorly trained personnel who made multiple mistakes similar to mine and yet they won’t fix the problem. Now, they are putting more road blocks to cancel not only my account but my minor child’s account. Horrible

Pool is horrifically green. Been like that almost 4 days.
Swimming in green water could cause bacterial infections on your skin, and you could get sick if you ingest algae-filled pool water.
They need to shock this pool and close it as members are being told that it is safe t swim. Not when you cannot see anything in there but a lot of bugs floating and green water.

A pretty good gym held back by the details and maintenance. The equipment is generally disorganized but solid and you rarely have to wait for anything. However you'll often find things like the paper towels, disinfectant, Or soap totally empty.

Perhaps the greatest sin is lack water availability. I know they want to sell water bottles but the water fountains are incredibly weak and there's not a bottle filling station in whole place. That, alone, is a pretty big ding.

I got second hand embarrassment when a female worker gave a tour of the women’s area and the trash can was over flowing onto the floor. I come here every day. The amenities are great but there's some stuff that's annoying. Machines are often broken or have small issues like buttons that won't work.

The reason why this is annoying is because they charge us a yearly fee for maintenance, on top of the already higher than average montly fee. -1 star

Other than that, this is a great gym it has anything you could ask for at a great location with decent hours.

Just spoke to an Alex at front desk...she basically took no ownership as an employee..told me to come back. I really liked this gym, but the way they handled the membership dues during COvID is just not professional at all. I was charged my monthly dues in April when gym was apparently closed' I was told I would not be refunded money, however was offered credit (credit for what and how can I possibly use the credit?) I froze my account and now November I still have not stepped foot in the gym and my bank gets hit again for a monthly fee. I've reached out to management via phone calls and email and have not received a response to either one. I will be requesting a full refund but seriously doubt they are going to approve.

I Seriously Love the Gym & it’s Atmosphere. My Only Complaint is That Large Fan in the Class Area (Body Pump with Daniel). In Reality, I’m There to Sweat, NOT Be Blown Off with This High Intensity of Wind Blowing in My Face. The ONLY Thing I Am Able to Get Out of My Workout is Watery Eyes & A Dry Face. That Fan Either Has to Go or Be Adjusted at A Minimal Because it is Seriously Cutting into My Gym Time. The Facility is Well Equipped with Air Conditioning, Which I Believe is Sufficient for A Great Workout.

I Prefer McAllen, Since They Are the Only One That Do Not Seems to Have That Issue and I Hope They Never Do.

In an age where people work remotely, groceries can be purchased online, and on-demand entertainment Gold's Gym needs to catch up!

Firstly, I loathe the plastic (put on your key ring) membership pass. I would much rather be able to pull up a barcode on my phone via an app then have to add another item to my key ring.

Thirdly, I despise having to do anything in person. Why can't I sign up/renew online? College degrees are available entirely online. Dominos Pizza has a fantastic app to curb your appetite. Please, get with the "e-commerce," it started years ago.

It is my deepest and most sincere desire to express the overwhelming gratitude that i have for management at this Golds gym. Milo and C.j. are absolutely down to earth and super helpful!
Everyone gets along so well...there is plenty of equipment and its brand new...There is a heated Jacuzzi,pool...outside shower plenty of exterior light in pool area outdoor clock. Upstairs and lower level exercise facilities,yoga and stretching room..There is a. Room for hitting a punching bag(there are 2 bags) spinning are treadmills systems and stairmaster like equipment (all this is conveniently located in the upper level .Downstairs are several pieces of equipment too many to mention. Plenty of shower stalls and heated sauna ,there are also digital scales in the locker areas and plenty of lockers both free and paid reserved lockers.They sell t-shrts with the Golds gym emblem...towels,bags,caps you name it..Isaiah with vital nutrition has you covered on the supplements side...everythimg you need for your health and fitness is here..Oh,there is even a kids daycare with a slide a t.v area for the kids and cushion on the floor with its own restrooms
For the kids...most of the equipment like the treadmills and stairmasters have cable...and at the membership price its a no brainer.The staff here is always helpful...Milo,c.j and Isaiah and everyone here at Golds have been instrumental in my life changing transformation...I couldnt have done it without them...

Outstanding gym. Would give it 5 stars if it were open 24 hours. I work the night shift and sometimes I can’t sleep on my nights off from work so I’ll usually work out to blow off that extra steam.

As soon as I entered the gym I felt as if I were in a big modern city, I loved the facilities and the lounge area in the women's bathroom is incredible! The pool is huge! You need to go see the gym, you will love it!!!

Amazing customer service kasandra it’s super nice and always have a smile on her face. The gym it’s super clean and nice at all times. the kidsclub the girls are amazing definitely I recommend this location. They have great classes and schedules.

With all due respect to those posting comments. ..however, I'm trying to figure out how these people say the hours aren't convenient? I'm a member here at the one in edinburg, tx and daily hours Monday -Friday I believe are 4:00 a.m-11:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m- 8:00 p.m . this is plenty of time for anyone to workout. I suggest in a respectful way if you can't make it within those hours get yourself some exercise equipment at home. In addition, someone commented on lack of equipment at this location. ...I will mention this. ..edinburg golds gym is full to the brim on equipment. .it is unbelievable. ..The management and staff are friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. .the trainers they have are absolutely top of the line ! This location also has a smoothie bar,area where they sell T-shirts,caps ...gym bags...towels....they have everything you need for your well being...Listen don't take my word for it....do yourselves a favor go visit this place and you will see that I have been truthful. ...May God bless each and everyone of you and don't forget to tell the front desk staff and management how much we appreciate them and let's not forget about the maintenance crew that works tirelessly throughout their shift to keep the equipment clean and sanitized so that we can enjoy our visit...let's let them know that we have taken note of their diligence and efforts. ..MAY GOD BLESS ALL WHO READ THIS REVIEW!

So today was my first day coming to this gym. Was super excited to workout and afterwards get a shake. When I asked the front desk a question about the shakes she was super rude, she rolled her eyes and gave me an attitude. This was at 5am. Kinda was disappointed I didn’t get to try out a shake. Really do recommend this gym but front desk does need to change her attitude. I myself have been a front desk and it takes a lot of patience with people and if you don’t have patience then this job is not for you.
