So apparently my gym can see into the future. They decided to close early today because of Thanksgiving… even though Thanksgiving is tomorrow. Make it make sense.

If you’re going to cut hours, at least line it up with the actual holiday — or maybe just post a notice so members don’t drive all the way there for nothing. Super inconvenient and honestly pretty unprofessional.

And once again proving the lack of professionalism from the manager commenting on my review. According to the state of Texas invading the privacy of an employee it's against the law and defamation. Disclosing why an employee was terminated is very unprofessional. And YES Jay the manager mistreats all his employees. They all talk behind his back of how awful of a manager he is. He act out of emotion due to obvious reasons and not as a professional. You will receive a letter from my lawyer for defamation and invasion of privacy. The gym is always dirty and staff are always falling asleep in the entrance at 5 am on their phones. Again a reflection of their manager.

Half of my workout was trying to find the right weights. This place is a mess. Not a single area had the weights remotely racked correctly. I know the members are partly to blame, but having to go to a different section just to find the other 10lb dumbbell is insane.

The gym itself is rundown, but despite that, I continued going and was a loyal member, always paying my membership on time. However, I ran into a situation with my contract, and the gym just gave me the runaround. They clearly don’t care about loyal customers and won’t help when issues arise. My situation was handled unfairly, entirely due to the staff’s misinformation—not from any negligence on my end and they still showed no concern. The management is poor, the staff is unhelpful and uninformed, and they completely lack professionalism. It was a very disappointing experience.

Review is solely based on my review of Swimming pool as thats what I go there for.

Swimming suit dryer doesn't work since I have started visiting. Showers are relatively dirty as well.

There are not many swimming pool options in the valley thats why I had to sign up for Gold's otherwise I wouldnt have.

Biggest complaint I have with the pool management is that there is no body to enforce pool rules, no body ! Most of the time there are old people who just go into the pool with their home clothes on (wearing shirts, pants on), there is no concept of taking a shower before swimming etc. Its more so a management + the type of people who visit pool issue as compared to just management issue.

Water also appears dirty most of the time.

I wish they can implement things better. I am trying to find a better pool and will move on as soon as I find one.

This place is an absolute mess. Random plates & weights all over the ground and throughout the gym. Weights never reracked & half of the equipment is broken & no space all the machines are so tight together. Management is terrible. I moved out of town and tried to cancel my membership. They refused to speak to me on the phone & required I sent an email. I sent 3 emails & got no response & they continued to charge me for 2 months now. Spoke to Ruben on the phone and still refused to cancel & sent me to a customer care email even though I’m on a month to month plan. If I could give this place 0 stars I would.

If I could leave zero stars I would. This gym is simply not worth your dollar. All the equipment is broken or in need of repair. On the main room there’s a cable rack that is missing a pin to almost all of the machines. There is no order to the dumbbell rack. Some dumbbells roll in your hand with no way of tightening the weight. The preacher curl bench needs repair. The leg room is a complete mess good luck finding two plates that match.

It’s a gym.
The pros: It’s got everything you need. Free weights and a variety of machines to suit anyone’s training needs. Additional perks are swimming pool, sauna (in women’s and men’s dressing room), lockers in dressing rooms, racquetball courts, and areas are separated by preference (legs, CrossFit, general lifting, a well equipped women’s area, and cardio in addition to the classrooms). The crowd is an even mix of ages, fitness journeys, not too many influencers recording, and even in the most crowded times you can get a good workout in. And, above all, if there’s ever a machine that breaks, it’s quickly fixed. Overall, it’s a fun gym to be a part of.
The cons: I will preface this by stating that I may be extra critical because I worked at a gym when I was younger and I am a grown-ass adult that can clean up after myself and have standards. That said, the gym is a mess! Many members don’t rack up their weights or clean after themselves. This results in you having to remove weights for others and/or clean someone’s greasy head spot from a bench before using it. Maintenance walks around vacuuming but the kids working the front desk don’t do walk throughs to re-rack weights and keep a nice and organized gym. They don’t enforce gym rules, so you’ll find yourself walking around fetching what you need because it’s likely misplaced. There hasn’t been any deep cleaning of the gym or the machines, probably ever. The vents and machines are full of dust, hair, skin cells, and the cardio machines have drip marks from everyone’s sweat. It’s like a pandemic never happened and we forgot that our body excretions are gross. The women’s area, although well equipped, is absolutely busted! The drywall needs replacing, roof leaks, and nothing is ever in its place.
It would be nice to workout in a clean and well organized environment for the price we pay. Hence the “it’s a gym” statement. I give it a 3/5 because I do enjoy coming here but wish they would step it up and get it together for sanitation and organization. I’m posting the bad pictures and you’ll just need to trust me that it’s a fun environment. Out of respect, I’m not posting pics of the gym with people working out - you’ll need to get a tour of the gym if you’re interested in seeing that.

I keep having high hopes for this location because I’ve been a member for years and it just keeps going downhill. Men’s sauna and steam room are always broken, the lockers rooms are a mess. There’s been a dead fly on one of the lockers for the past 2 weeks and no lne has bothered to clean it. How is it that there isn’t a spare key for the lockers in case a member gets locked out. What IF I were in my underwear or a towel and all my stuff is in the locker so I can’t get into it including my phone and car keys; and of course no one has a solution. The only reason I haven’t cancelled is the pool, but after so many years, I’ll probably going to.

First, the good - body pump! It is the only reason I keep my membership.

It is in disrepair. Buckets are all over collecting water when it rains. The old, recycled equipment is in the women’s section. Things are everywhere and unorganized.

Even the easy stuff doesn’t get done. For example - keep the online class schedule current. How hard is that!? It is frustrating to get there just to find out that there is no class. Many of the classes are now virtual - that may or may not be important to some.

I paid for a one year membership ahead of time under the pretense that this gym not only had a sauna and a steam room but also punching bags. One month into my membership all punching bags were removed without so much as a warning to "make more room for leg machines" which they already had countless of. To make matters worse, the sauna and steam room are ALWAYS broken, now I'm trapped in a membership at a gym that charges premium prices for amenities it does not even offer and is open less hours than a planet fitness or trufit. I have spoken to management several times asking about the punching bags and they never have an answer for me on the return of the punching bags, at this point return them or return my money. I saw another review on here about filing a class action lawsuit and they may be onto something, y'all are just squeezing your customer's wallets and God knows when that money is gonna be put to good use.

I like the variety of equipment at this Golds. However, good variety is overpowered by the constant disarray. This is the most disorganized Golds gym I’ve ever been to. The dumbbells are never in order. Dumbbells are often missing and found scattered throughout the gym. I’ve been going to this gym for over 4 years and as each year passes the maintenance gets worse. Every corner of the gym is beat up. The ceiling in the women’s bathroom is damaged, buckets scattered all over the gym because the ceiling is leaking, holes all over the walls, tape holding together the floor and some of the front desk associates don’t have good customer service. The guy charged me a late fee because my new credit cc hadn’t come in and the guy lied straight to my face saying to come in on Monday to get the late fee waived but instead charged me the additional fee that same day. Same guy (tall young guy with black hair) was preparing my smoothie and when i asked for almond milk he said they only give tap water because the almond milk doesn’t blend in the blender??? I don’t know who hired this guy but he is not competent for this job. Overall, for the monthly membership, maintenance fee and yearly fee their price does not match the luxurious service they claim to be.

The front desk employees are young, and some have the professionalism of teenagers. I have witnessed so many of their rude remarks & behaviors when members ask to lower the volume of the music or ask for some area to get cleaned up. They'll answer politely, and when the member walks away, make rude remarks & laugh. Some of their music choices is questionable. I'm not sure if there is a standard Playlist or if it's left to the employee at the desk to choose what they want to play.
Equipment is good, and machines are upgraded often enough. Cleaning is decent. I can still see the areas they don't bother to clean by the obvious accumulation of dust/debris. The sauna breaks down every so often due to ill mannered members who decide to throw water onto the heater. Restrooms can get dirty often. I've been a long-time member for over 10 years. I've seen this gym location change a good amount over the years.
My 2 star rating is due to how management runs the membership acct dealings.
If you ever decide to freeze or cancel your membership, make sure you have a paper trail/evidence. For example, If you ask to freeze, make sure you have the paperwork showing what months you chose to freeze. If you're required to email, then be specific in your email. If you do it in person, ask for a copy. Make notes on who you spoke to, called, emailed, etc, include time/date.
When I set up my freeze in person, I asked for 3 months, but apparently, the manager who assisted me only inputted 2 months. When I canceled my membership, I owed multiple fees. This is after emailing the manager, who stated I only had one fee to pay.

I called a couple of times and asked if the pool was cleaned (since it had rained so much) because I do not want to waste gas going for nothing for it to be dirty. They told me once no (which if you say the truth it's understandable because it does take some time to clean it) and two times yes, but when I went (the first time) it was GREEN! Literally you cannot see and it had so many dead bugs! Just be frank and say no! Second time I called the guy on the phone said "it'll be ready by tomorrow" and when I went the following day IT WAS DIRTY STILL! I left the one in Mission because of the same problem! Guess it's a problem everywhere.

Horrible gym. It is poorly ran, never clean, and smells so bad. People are allowed to do whatever they want there. This gym has no rules. People are allowed to walk around shirtless and bare foot in the gym. People are also allowed to bring camera crews to record their workouts. I used to love this gym but now it is a complete mess. Do not go to the gym on the weekend either. No one cleans the restrooms those days. 0 stars

also you have to share the gym with boys and girls club. the parents crowd the ab area and you are unable to use that equipment. you pay 60 a month to share the space. they also have vendor nights where they crowd the gym with people selling clothes (they do this at peak gym hour btw) and have a dj that plays music unnecessarily loud. I have no idea why they don’t use the parking lot or grass area or even the basketball area. dumb planning and an injury waiting to happen. poor management.

I Have been a dedicated member of GGM for over 15 years, including 4 years of consistent attendance in the Burn class, I have valued the sense of community and fitness journey that this gym has provided.

However, I have encountered some challenges that have impacted my experience with the Burn class, particularly related to the instructor, George. There have been recurrent issues with class cancellations, and unprofessional attitude.
I believe that addressing these issues promptly is crucial in maintaining a supportive and enjoyable environment for all members of GGM gym. Money guzzlers. Annual fee is high, as well as the monthly fee (I’m currently paying $60 a month). I used to attend trufit for years, and I wanted to try out a new gym. Biggest mistake. The people at trufit, despite being a less ‘elite’ gym, are so kind and will always greet you. Gold’s gym workers are lazy and unmotivated and don’t have a drive to enhance or make the experience of members pleasant. Did i mention they try to attract you with their many amenities, all of which are usually dirty and not well kept. I would recommend to NOT go here and NOT sign up for the membership which is a binding year contract. Once my year is up, Gold’s Gym will never hear from me again.

I want to talk about the hazards that can happen if this gets out control, there’s no lights in the dumbbell area somebody can fall, the cleaning needs to improve because there’s always water in the sauna, steam room, lockers, pretty much all the men’s restroom. Some of the machines don’t feel secure, I feel that at any time a screw will fall off. That’s some of the things I see daily and finally I got tired of it. Im just waiting on my annual membership gets done so I can look for a new gym. I really wish this gets fixed and the owner gets the right person in charge. All the best, peace and love.

Some staff members give horrible attitude, the jacuzzi and pool dirty as usual. Basketball court floor usually dirty and needs construction maintenance. Weights are all over the place. Honestly the worst experience I’ve had with a club. Trying to cancel has been hell. I also have to pay 30 days extra for the month after I cancel a claim to the 30 day notice. I also would say that pins were not in the machines often at this facility. The steam room has not been working for months.
And the late fees are huge. Overall I would say they make it very clear that you will be penalized but they won’t have any consequences to the service or lack of service you pay for. I honestly feel sorry for anyone who goes into a contract with this gym. It would be the equivalent to being married to your worst nightmare. I gave them two stars but honestly they don’t even deserve that.

would not recommend this place to any elderly people due to the fact that they simply do not know basic customer service or forget it. my grandmother was there about an hour ago and the front desk receptionist, sofia (or sophia), held up my grandmother who goes in for physical therapy on the treadmill for more than 30 minutes. keep in mind my grandmother is an elderly woman who had an accident (and is scared to drive alone in the dark at night) and my grandmother since then has been instructed to go to the gym. she refused to let my grandmother in and made her call her insurance to verify that they were covering her membership and it was active. wether it was a personal issue or a system issue my grandmother wasn’t able to get her therapy in due to how long she spent trying to sort that out. would not recommend.

Amazing that the GM of this facility is okay with taking advantage of an 18 year old kid and take their hard earned money.

On October 2 my son purchased a membership. On October 3 he had to cancel the membership. It was due to a policy of the gym, which we completely understand. My son was wanting to use the racquetball court to practice on his color guard. We had the general manager (Oscar) come tell us it wasn't allowed even though numerous people on his staff told us on 2OCT and even when we showed up that it was okay. Again, we understand the policy and why it wasn't allowed....no issues with that.

The issue is now that Oscar assured us that he'd put the refund request in. After a week we didn't receive the refund, I reached out to him, and he said he processed it and said he'd send me a copy of the processed refund. He never sent it. I've gone by and called, left messages....he has yet to respond. I feel that this is absolutely inexcusable, unacceptable, and unprofessional of him. Especially as a “General Manager”.

I am currently active-duty Army and was assigned here in the RGV area to teach at the university. When we arrived it was an important task for us to try and find a location that could facilitate his ability to practice and even workout. Again, understand the policy....but the lack of common courtesy of Oscar and him basically saying "screw you" to my 18-year-old son who spent his hard-earned money for the membership is ridiculous.

Gym looks okay. Staff was all very friendly. GM, needs a lot of work… unless this is how he is for non customers. I’d hope he doesn’t treat actual clients like this.

I thought this would be an improvement over Trufit. The men’s locker room is filthy and there’s no lockers available ever. The stalls are falling apart in the restroom. And everything is dirty. Both the Edinburg and the Dove locations are decrepit. Go to the newer Trufits. They’re way cleaner.

I'm giving this gym a 3 instead of 2 cause of the friendly staff in the front. This gym is one of the most expensive gyms by far in the valley. Yes you have a pool,basketball courts, racketball courts and woman only areas. The thing that hurts it for me is just the cleaning upkeep and when machines break its take a hot minute to fix again. The basketball court is always smelling really bad and the walls look horrible. Golds gym is suppose to be a higher standard and this location doesn't seem to follow it as should be. If you're going pay 50 bucks a month and a huge yearly fee it needs to meet certain standards

Been coming to this gym for two years and the only difference was that they rearranged the leg room nice… The equipment is outdated you can clearly tell compared to other Gold’s Gyms or gyms in general. Something is always broken when I get there. The other reviews about the stairs never getting fixed is true, it looks like they just put tape and hope it doesn’t come off. The men’s locker room is bad. Like bad bad. I have no clue where our money goes to be honest. There are other cheaper gyms out there that are better quality than this gym. The money for the membership is not the problem it’s the lack of quality they try to charge over the other gyms. Their quality is not even close to the other gyms nearby.

Why are mirrors broken, Womens bathroom ceiling falling apart, pool dirty, machines broken, rusting and overly crowded. The machines looked like they haven’t been updated in 20 years. Walls are scratched, stairs are falling apart. Not to mention the women’s section is a joke.

What’s going on with general management here, are you just pocketing the money and not putting it back into your business?

You get enough clients a month to cover the cost of repairs. This is one of the worst Golds Gyms I have ever been to.

There are gyms that charge $9 a month that are in better conditions than this.

It’s very concerning how unsanitary the men’s locker room is. I’ve made several complaints to the front desk staff about countless issues and seems to go nowhere. I can’t be the only member that is bothered by how the steam room smells like sewer, shower are always clogged up, shower heads barely work, and locker area never seems to be swept or mopped. It takes days for them to put soap in the dispensers to be able to wash your hands. And there seems to be mold growing on the walls in certain areas. What are we paying a yearly maintenance fee for? And the monthly memberships are not cheap either. Would be greatly appreciated if the staff and management team would take pride in the way their gym is run and presented.

I went to watch the racketball games. They were very good. I really like the competitive aspect of the players. Definitely a fun highlight to your club. I could feel the energy of the guys playing. Especially the older gentleman. He was awesome. Unbelievable how fit he was... Fun times!

Poorly maintained facility. Broken, outdated, unusable equipment everywhere. The gym also posts class times on the app and website and then I show up to class and told there is no class. So I asked why it was posted? Staff just responded with a shrug. Tonight I was almost locked inside the gym at closing. Why? Because the app says it closes at 10pm, not 8pm. Nobody even mentioned the gym closing just turned all the lights off. Lots of irritating things build up over time due to poor management. If you can avoid this gym, I recommend you do that. The monthly fee is too high for what you receive. Expect better from Gold’s brand.

I come to this gym just because it has a nice crossfit area in the back. However this gym needs maintenance attention AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Very old rusty equipment, restrooms are never cleaned. There is always #2 stains on the toilets and always smell like urine. Sauna and steam room hallway always smells disgusting. I also once saw a bloody bandaid just laying in the turf area for 2 weeks straight! No one ever pays attention to these things and someone needs to do something about this now!

2 months ago a person had a nose bleed on the basketball court . I told the front desk and they told me they couldn't leave the front since they were the only person there . They asked me if I wanted to clean it they could offer me something to clean it with . I thought that was rude and what is worse is the next week blood stains were still on the door handle and on the basketball court . Don't know if it ever got cleaned. I was a loyal member of GOLDS for eight years. When I tried to cancel the membership, in the middle of COVID, they would not let me cancel over the phone or by email. I had to leave quarantine in my ninth month of pregnancy and at the height of COVID in order to cancel my membership with Golds. When I finally cancelled, they charged me for that month and an additional month, even though my contract had expired years earlier. They never froze my membership and charged for the entire year. I understand that they make money on hidden fees but I found their business practice to be very insensitive and greedy. If you are going to sign up at GOLDs, beware of the exit clauses.

I go here unfortunately because there is really now other gym in the area that has a basketball gym.

The upstairs of this place (where most cardio is) is fairly hot and definitely humid (and I usually never one to complain about buildings being too warm). Luckily the humidity isn't as bad recently, since they closed the steam room. (I imagine it was shut down because of this issue.)

The final straw that prompted me to write a review was that I was overcharged on a bottle of water. (when you buy something, it doesn't ring up to where you can view it, you only see the charge later). I made multiple attempts to address this via email as well as in person and I never get an answer.

Anyways, the two Gold's in Laredo and the Gold's in Mission are so much better than this one. I am crossing my fingers that a new gym opens up with some hoops.
