I got a membership for one month while I was attending Texas State even have proof of their actual app stating my contract ended months ago, yet I’m still being charged by them and what was one a 16$ a month fee, I’m now being charged 60$, 40$ all within weeks not even months.

I have been going to this location for the last 15 years and I have to say it has never been better. The management, trainers, front desk staff and even the EVS team are all very friendly and extremely helpful. The patrons here are mostly teens to mid and upper twenties but they are also very kind and inviting. It creates a very fun and family like atmosphere. Give it a month or so and you will never go anywhere else..

Best Gym I came across I live in kyle so very convenient and proximate location not to mention 4 days of the week it’s 24 hours added plus for the hours, I used to be a golds gym member a longtime ago but I recently joined and I absolutely love this upgraded golds used to be a member for La fitness before and canceled as soon as I saw how close this gym was to my house, I guess I no longer have to drive 25 miles back and forth to the only closest la fitness , I really wish this place had a pool and hot tub like they used to but anyway best place to workout 100 percent recommend !

I’d give 5 stars but the hot water in the men’s showers hasn’t worked in 3 months. I’ve reported it twice, each time about a month apart, and I’m still getting cold showers. The gym is absolutely great but no hot showers is a real drawback.

This is complaint about the customer service my husband and I received from Zach Farmer at Gold's Gym in San Marcos, Texas.
On October 31, 2024, we arrived at the gym, and I requested a manual check-in. Mr. Farmer responded harshly, questioning, “You don’t know how to use an app?” Taken aback by his tone, I responded that we were educated in technology but I asked what the procedure would be if the system was down. After repeating the question multiple times, he finally mentioned that they would manually enter and cross-reference check-ins once the system was back up. However, I’ve witnessed on previous occasions that when their system is down, they simply allow members in without any check-in or accountability.
I then mentioned that I had forgotten my phone and membership card. He responded by stating there was a $10 fee for manual check-ins. When I attempted to clarify the policy, he rudely asked if I was “this cynical all the time” and told me I was “wasting his time” and that he was "busy"—although he was merely standing at the front desk just watching people check in. The front desk staff is frequently unengaged, often standing around talking to each other, rarely greeting customers, and seemingly inattentive to customer check-ins.
Mr. Farmer’s attitude was unprofessional and dismissive, showing no willingness to resolve the issue or offer an apology. Due to his behavior, I requested the cancellation of my membership and I mentioned to my husband that I would not return until I received an apology from the management via phone call or a letter of apology from Mr. Farmer via email.
Gold’s Gym should prioritize customer service by ensuring respect and professionalism, particularly from staff who interact directly with members. I would appreciate a response detailing how Gold's Gym intends to address this issue to provide a more positive experience for all members……………………………………………This is my reply to Zach’s answer………………………………………………My husband returned to the gym the same day to address the incident and have a conversation with Zach. However, instead of engaging in a constructive discussion, you provided him with a cancellation form. My husband came there to discuss the incident but you were rude and told him that you were not interested in having me return to your gym. My husband approached you calmly and respectfully, yet this was your response.
I would advise against fabricating statements to justify your actions. An owner should never treat clients in such a manner. We have already canceled our membership and have no desire to be associated with your establishment due to the poor customer service we experienced.
Additionally, despite your decision not to welcome us back, our account continued to be charged. We had to reach out to someone else to ensure our services were canceled again, as the charges persisted. How convenient for you.
At this point, it’s clear you got what you wanted. We are no longer clients, and you’ve managed to take extra money from us. There’s nothing more to discuss.

Machines are always busy. There never seems to be sanitizer or paper towels or an employee to help. I called to cancel my membership shift one month ago. I talked to a personal trainer who tried upselling me on training packages after I repeatedly asked to cancel my membership. He said the only way I could do so was in person. I live 45 minutes away. I finally decided to go and the obviously “enhanced” General Manager helped me. He was clearly un-empathetic. He tells me I could have emailed. I just don’t understand either option given to me, when there is an app that has all of my credit card information and membership status; why I can’t I cancel on the website? Just another way companies make it difficult to cancel subscriptions.

I am very thankful for the recent renovations. They brought new fitness opportunities, and the layout is exceptional. This rating should be a 5, but the manager has ignored several attempts to repair the Concept2 rowers in the Fit Class. Several have BROKEN written in chalk on them. Please remedy!

I would love to give this gym a 5, but I cannot. Their recent renovations are hugely welcomed and offer great cardio and weight lifting options. These amenities are all a 5. However, I pay extra for the Gold’s Fit Class, and for several years now I have asked the manager to repair or replace the Concept2 Rowers. This has fallen on deaf ears. Consequently, several have BROKEN written on them, and the class works with fewer rowers. I don’t understand why this continues to be ignored.

What in the world is going on with Golds gym lately. I was jump roping near a young man who was hitting the Punching Bag. When I over heard a conversation with a Golds team member telling the young man that he was hitting the gym bag to hard. It was the most awkward interaction I’ve heard and seen! He mentioned the bag was knocked down before and was almost offended that they have to fix their gym equipment. What happened to the gym being a good and fun place to work out. It’s getting ridiculous. Now wonder people are leaving to other Gyms near by.

With the new renovations I really would like to see a bottle filling fountain. Golds in New Braunfels has one and so doesn’t the Planet Fitness. With the high volume traffic that Golds has in San Marcos I don’t understand why this has not already happened.

I’ve been going to the San Marcos Gold’s Gym location since 2020. The staff has always been super friendly and the gym has always been clean and well maintained. Now, they are completing a renovation that has added brand new equipment and an entire new section with turf in the back. The renovation has brought a fresh new look to the gym and I am so excited for the back area to be opened up!

Me and my Fiancé checked in today for our workout like we have done SEVERAL MANY times before. However, today my fiancé was stopped and asked to scan his pass again. When he did my name and picture popped up. Mind you I scanned my card before his. However at the time we just assumed that our memebership numbers were mixed up at the time because I then went to scan mines and the trainer (don’t remember his name) said my fiancé name popped up. At this point he scrolls on the computer and states that his membership is registered to my name and two other people. I told him maybe the gym got his membership mixed because I registered through my job. First red flag the trainer said oh no you can’t share a membership he has to have his own. This is not what I said. So my fiancé then states no I have my own I have been coming here for weeks. After go back n forth with the trainer stating that my fiancé has three different barcodes. We then attempted to walk out to our workout and said that this seems to be an issue that the gym would need to fix, since our information DID SHOW UP when we scanned our codes. The trainer then goes on to state that and I quote “no you are using other people barcodes that is the problem”. At this point no he is accusing him of not having his own membership and using other people info. He also stated he “sees” my fiancé flipping through 3 different barcodes. I told him he is flipping through his Apple wallet and the app. Not at one point did he stop to look at the phone to verify the membership number. At this point we are frustrated and embarrassed of being accused of not owning a membership. My fiancé offers him to look at his phone to verify he refused. Could it have been racism or ignorance, unsure. Thank GOD Zachary stepped in and calm the situation down. He ACTUALLY asked for his info, confirmed that BOTH numbers are connected to him. Now this is the best part. He then went back to the check in screen to see if the membership that “supposedly” popped up number was similar to his own. It was not even close. Turns out the screen was just not pulled all the way up and it was showing members that checked in before us. Had the trainer just verified the info he would have caught that as well. Instead he was automatically accused of having other members information on phone. So all of this happened simply because the trainer did not “scroll up” on the computer. I have NEVER had any issues before today. However, I did not appreciate being called out in front of people and having a scene because someone did not do their job and made accusations instead. Gym and facilities are fine and standard, but when making my membership with the front desk I was explicitly told if I hoped to only make my membership last for one month, to simply come in before a week was left of my membership and cancel it and all would be well. I had actually tried to cancel it immediately as to make it only last a month, but the worker essentially said that would not be possible, but if I come in by a certain date he could make that happen. Come to find out that is not the case and after talking with the manager I was given no paths of resolution and was told that “my team members would never say such a thing”.

I hope not to pawn any blame onto the worker with who may have understandably miscommunicated the situation to me, but the fact that the manager essentially called me a liar and offered no other resolutions other than “stuff happens sucks for you”, is unacceptable.

Note: Used to be two stars but manager replied to first review and re-implies I must surely be lying, stating the policy “is well known by all of our team members”. Although this may be a case, there’s never a hint of an idea that he would ever believe any part of what I say. I understand not 100% believing a customer based off a story they say, and I understand not offering an altered policy simply due to my story, but to not even fathom that I may be telling the truth is an absurd perspective. Sucks too because all the workers are super nice, greeting, being friendly and helpful and whatnot.

Gym owners are taking out the pool and increasing footprint of workout area. Staff are super nice and patrons are friendly, polite and share equipment. The expansion should alleviate congestion. Plenty of parking before 6pm on Monday through Wednesday but later than 6pm early in the week you may be parking at the Spot.

I love the variety of classes. Especially the early morning options. I just moved to the area and so glad to be apart of this gym. I’ve tried the Golds Fit, Zumba and Bodypump classes. I will be canceling my membership immediately. I just started here and it is awful. Here are my issues...
Cleaning service is rude. Staring constantly, I mean every time I turn around she is right next to me practically. She sprays cleaning chemicals right next to people while working out, including me. She is doing deep cleaning, like lifting machines and sweeping right next to me. Shouldn't that deep cleaning stuff be done early before memebers arrive or after hours? 🤔

Don't get me wrong I appreciate someone cleaning and wiping down machines in between use, however deep cleaning needs to be done at a different time. I have asthma and my allergies are exacerbated by cleaning chems and dust. Which leads me to the next issue I have with this gym.

The vents are filthy.... if I am going to be deep and heavy breathing in a gym I would appreciate the vents being clean. There is thick, caked on crude on every vent. That alone makes me worry about the amount of dust I am breathing in and my health is at risk for certain, no doubt there.

My suggestion to this corporate entity is to hire less employees and get a vent cleaning service that will change the vents and keep the units clean. This would be a better place to put your capital, rather than hiring a bumch of employees who seem to be standing around socializing three all at one spot. Doesn't look very good seeing three people standing around doing a little bit of nothing.

My daughter and her boyfriend go here, as well as my son and husband, and I just signed up but look forward to ending my membership asap.

I hope at some point this entity that is supposed to be a beacon for health can get it together and understand how important it is to have personal space from cleaning staff, a clean air flow, and employees who aren't going around giving people dirty looks.

If another gym opens up, I'd say y'all are in trouble, especially if that new gym can do the minimum and be respectful. Then perhaps y'all will appreciate what you have a treat your members better.

My 5 star review is solely based on an employee there by the name of Anthony. It is so refreshing to be greeted at the front door with a genuine welcoming feeling. It’s not just that, he crossed over to a line that never seems to happen these days by accommodating our needs that would have been easily dismissed by others. Physical strength affects everything from the ability to walk up and down steps to fetching an object under a table to picking up milk in the grocery store. I had lost significant strength by not exercising in the harsh San Marcos weather. Then I joined GOLD’s GYM and began attending the Silver Sneaker Class 3-4 times a week. After 8 weeks, I regained my former strength and my blood pressure dropped to classic normal - what a glorious surprise ! The water fountains are garbage, the place is almost always packed no matter when you go, it is always unnaturally hot, barely anyone wipes down their equipment, people constantly re-rack 5 and 10 pound plates under multiple 45s and 25s, people will try and cut you in the line for a squat rack/deadlift platform, and people constantly slam the weight stack on the cable machines (without using the rubber protectors in the stack) which breaks them often.

Oh and if you want to calmly and politely cancel your membership with the lady in the curly black hair at the front desk she’s gonna be extremely rude, threaten you, and then try to reverse-Karen you by asking you if you want to see a manager.

If you like being dehydrated after sweating an unnatural amount in a crowded gym with little to no common gym etiquette, going on a wild goose chase for 5 or 10 pound plates and/or barbell clips, and a bad apple at the front desk — then this is the perfect place for you.

There’s not enough equipment and most of them are worn out past replacement there a lot of machine that need service or replacement. Sauna, squat racks, stair climber. The big three for me and they have them. Ideally there would be hot tubs and cold plunges too but that's rare to get those. The only thing I don't like so much is the lack of benches to sit on in the male locker room relative to the amount of lockers. If one dude is sitting on the bench squeezing another on them is a stretch if you want to keep your stuff off the floor or haven't opened the locker yet. Also gotta get more removable shower heads.

One of the most packed gyms i’d ever been too. Ages from college kids to elders. Pretty diverse. and lots of athletes. Has a basketball court inside. Awesome bathrooms with showers, lots of bathroom stalls, huge mirrors, sinks, lockers that lock, open spaces to get changed and seats. Lots of treadmills, places to do floor workouts like core and stretching, large pull up bar area, ropes, rowing machines, almost every type of the manual workout machines that you can change the seat on and adjust the weight, large range dumbbells, 4 squat racks, 4 bench press racks. With it being packed you might want to go earlier or at an awkward time because some days you can’t even get in the workout you wanted because every machine or weight is taken. Some days you walk in and immediately walk out and just have to go for a run in the park because it’s too much.

I'm a new member. This morning was the first 7:15am Zumba class & I was super excited. Class was fire, so much fun & the best vibes. But...as we were taking our group picture & to be out by 8am the next group of people started coming in for the Bodypump class, they were super rude with a whole lot of unnecessary attitude. I get that they didn't know their class time had changed to 8:15am but it was way too early for all that rudeness & even the talking back to our Zumba Instructor. (Not the first encounter with rude people.) Hopefully this can be addressed. It's hard enough for me to walk into a gym but even harder knowing there can be such rude people there. Please do better Gold's Gym. Thank You.

So far I joined Gold's Gym a few days ago. I went in and the employees don't notice at all because they talk amongst themselves because their college kids. There was a specific machine I wanted to use that's the chest press but it's out if order. I still haven't seem where the pool and hot tub is at that as I feel I would be asking these employees too many questions. And sadly no filtered water other than dirty water fountains. I'm surprised Gold's Gym cares less about this.

My daughter signed up when she moved to TX. She moved to NC in February 2021. After multiple calls asking them to cancel they refused and kept charging my card. This month also added and additional $54 fee. After talking to many people and trying to get this resolved with my credit card I am finding this is a regular practice of this Gold Gym. They even contested their erroneous charges with my credit card. I absolutely will continue to get my money back that they continue to steal from my account and only can help warn others NOT TO SIGN UP!!!!
They are crooked company!!

When I outgrew my apt gym this was my next destination and have been here now for almost 5 years. It’s the perfect gym to see other people’s transformations as well as your own. Has a friendly atmosphere. I’ve seen people motivate each other and staff befriend the clientele making it more comfortable. Great Gym, but the cleaning lady in the morning at 5 am is horrible. She is so rude and stares daggers at you if you walk on the floor to go in the locker room or go to take a shower because she is trying to mop.....why should the paying customer have to work around their cleaning lady. She should come in at 4am and be done cleaning before the customers come in. She rushed me out of the showers so fast I left my expensive gym clothes in there and when I went back the next morning to lost & found , nobody supposedly turned in my clothes in
:( guessing she threw them away. The place would be great if she wasn't there.

It has a great facility. But if you cancel your membership you have to make sure you get proof of you going to cancel it. If not they will still charge you. My bank account is almost $130 in the negative. And because I have "no prrof" that I attempted to cancel my membership, I can't get a refund. Do NOT get a membership here unless you want to go broke trying to correct THEIR mistake.

Management does not respond to emails. Most of the amenities that the gym opened with are no longer operational. There is no pool, no kids club, no cardio cinema, and mens room is out of order often. These areas are storage areas. Less amenities, but same price. The gym is crowded and these closed areas could be used to add more equipment. I understand there was covid (but restrictions have been lifted) and that there is a new company running Gold's, but this is embarassing. Running out of patience...

I like the location but this gym constantly has several pieces of equipment out. It’s already a crowded gym and it’s even worse when you have almost half the treadmills out at a time and several weight machines. Makes my workout take so much longer because I’m having to wait for people to finish.
