Overall, this is a great gym — I’ve been a loyal member for over six months, regularly purchasing apparel, supplements, drinks, and meals, and I’ve even referred friends to the gym.
However, I’m disappointed with how a recent billing issue was handled. I received an email stating that my card had been declined, even though it had sufficient funds. I went to the front desk to clarify and provided a different card, which successfully went through.
To my surprise, an additional $25 declined fee was charged. I don’t agree with this fee, as the decline was not due to a lack of funds on my part. When I asked to see where this charge is specified in the membership contract, the only response I received was, “It’s the system, not us.”
I would appreciate it if this matter could be reviewed and the fee reconsidered.

Update: still a great gym, sauna still full of dudes wearing their sweaty workout clothes/hoodies/dirty socks. Great gym! Just wonder why dudes have to be nasty and wear their workout clothes (including smelly socks) into the sauna

This is what you can expect bill wise. Called the front counter to ask about these bills was told its the monthly then "annual" then card decline fee, which makes no sense because clearly my card didnt decline if youre billing me successfully. Then I try to cancel membership and im givin this rigamarol about emailing and yatta yatta aint nobody got time for. Regardless this is pretty much theft and im only barely noticing.

I can’t believe that more reviews haven’t mentioned this: the music is constantly at an earsplitting level. It cuts through the noise cancelling in my AirPods Pro to the point where I can’t hear my own music. You’ll pay $60/mo to be at a garbage rock concert.

Weights cleaning has gotten worse, equipment is even more broken and ignored, grease and debris never cleaned so ruins your nice work out clothes. Weight benches have internal broken parts, not safe at all, and every weigh bench is thrown on a distant part of the gym so you have to carry them because the wheels are all broken. Be careful and this girls out of this sink hole of gym!

Expensive $50 plus tax more like $60 a month plus not 24/7 access, cool equipment but not enough to justify the price AND it is hard to cancel, be warned if you decide to join! You will pay alot to cancel if you ever move etc.

Bought an overpriced day pass so I could run late at night inside since it’s too hot outside. I used to go here when I lived in the area, and I remember it being so much better. I had to end my run early because it felt like the same temperature inside and I was overheating - they had the fans turned off for some reason. So disappointed, what a waste of time and money. The staff is nice though.

Unfortunately too expensive for a novice gym. Equipment looks nice, but plates, dumbbells, and various accessories are scattered all over the place. Dumbbell racks aren’t even numbered, and non-45lb plates aren’t easy to find and are inconsistent brands. I’d expect the same from a Planet Fitness or Crunch. Music is a tad too lout too.

For such a popular gym I envisioned they would clean their equipment/ facilities better. Sweat and dust caked on all machines/ cardio equipment. Black treadmills looked Grey from a distance. Restroom smell would pour out onto the floor. Disappointing that the members pay high price for that. The discoloration in the photo is layers of dried sweat.

Listen, you can go look at all my reviews and see I have been to gyms all over the world; and there are few that can compete with HoG! One of my favourite parts of traveling is getting to lift and train in new gyms - sometimes it is a miss but you still get that pump. HoG is one of those gyms I just have to visit when I am close by. My wife is from Bertram, TX and when we are in town visiting her family, I always make the 30-40min drive to HoG. I have been coming for week-two week visits since they opened and they just keep getting better (aware they changed owners a couple of years ago). So here is my assessment of what makes this place great:
Firstly, plethora of equipment and options. I want to break that down because I don’t think you fully grasp what is truly meant here. So, they have equipment for almost every mechanical tension you can apply to a muscle, all variations of movements. Some are old school and grungy and some are new and shiny. But what I like most is that they have variations within variations - so you will find a pulldown machine but you will find multiple brands that have this slight variation. Anyone who lifts knows that just a slight variation changes the entire game. And in this case, you get a chance to see what gets the best contraction and mind-muscle connection. Leg presses - they got a shit ton of variations, so for the individual with a longer femur - they might get a better RoM from this one whereas I get it from this one. You get to experiment.
Secondly, there is so much that you almost never wait for equipment. It can get busy but I have never had to wait for anything. And the people that come to this gym are typically regulars so they are super friendly.
Thirdly, products up front are top notch. Some of the best of the best.
Fourth, the staff is super chill and very knowledgeable. Most of the time, gyms got someone up there that doesn’t know anything - this gym, there is always someone up there with knowledge ready and eager to help.
Bottom line is this gym is amazing. I just recently visited and saw they purchased the business nextdoor, knocked the wall out and added space and a new locker room. To the owners and staff, keep it up, I love this gym and it is the best part of having to come to Texas and visit the in-laws.

While this gym offers a decent variety of machines and equipment, there’s a lot left to be desired. The facility is absolutely filthy — layers of sweat and dust are caked onto the machines, and it’s clear that cleanliness is not a priority.
The atmosphere can also be off-putting. Many of the regulars, particularly hardcore bodybuilders, act like the place is their personal gym. I get it — this isn’t Planet Fitness — but squeezing through the door with imaginary lat syndrome doesn’t give you license to be disrespectful.
The front desk staff is hit or miss. More often than not, they barely acknowledge your presence, which adds to the unwelcoming vibe. As for the music, it’s usually loud — which I don’t mind in principle — but it’s often excessively so. And the frequent choice of death metal is definitely an acquired taste that not everyone appreciates.
They recently increased membership prices after some renovations: upgraded bathrooms (which were previously in terrible condition), a few new machines, some wall changes, and what feels like 50 new TVs. Whether that justifies the price hike is debatable. If they’re charging more, they should seriously consider hiring a professional cleaning crew to maintain the space.
Overall, I think there are better gym options in the area.

I came here just to see it and get a tour on Friday evening and the lady in the front desk gave me an attitude and was very irritated and annoyed that I just wanted to take a look at the gym before buying an actual pass. Definitely not even going to try it out. Awful service. I hope other people are nicer. Very disappointed

Have loved coming to this gym for a few years now suddenly the majority of music they play is death metal Not to be confused with heavy metal. Have talked to the front desk, people multiple times they don’t seem to have a power to change the music saying that only the manager can do that also stated that there is a playlist that has six DEATHMETAL songs than six hip-hop songs and then it switches back to death metal that was what I was told today anyways your music sucks if I worked out by myself I’d wear my headphones however I work out with a partner every time I come in here obviously we don’t wear any headphones. If you can kindly mix it up maybe not play death metal as much play some music you can actually work out to and not feel like I’m working out in hell… That would be awesome. Whoever is in charge of the music. I would really like to have a conversation with them. Thank you.

Update: Finally was able to get them to cancel my membership on 3/3/25, or so I thought. Until I woke up this morning 3/13/25, to them trying to charge me yet again. I’m over it.
Loved the gym before I moved, had a lot going on forgot to let them know I moved to cancel my membership, have charged me for months. I called to cancel my membership only to be told to email them, sent them an email and they stopped charging me for like a month or so then all the sudden started charging me again. Called them again told me that I needed to email them to stop payments. Went to my bank was able to get them to reverse the payment and yet they are still trying to charge me even though my bank just keeps reversing it. This is ridiculous. 10/10 do not recommend.

My husband, kids and friends have all gone to this gym off and on for years and enjoyed it but then we found out, when we went to take people in to sign up, that they were more than doubling the rates and no one told anyone. There was a small flyer at the front desk and that was it. We were told that there was nothing that the person at the desk could do and that we would have to send an email, which we did. When we didn't get a response we sent another email to cancel our membership well before the 30 day requirement. Again, no response, so we sent another email exactly 31 days before our next due date making it very clear again that we were canceling our membership. Again, no response and, lo and behold, we get charged the next month and are now having to go through the dispute process with our bank, which is still ongoing because THEY WILL NOT EMAIL YOU BACK. After reading these reviews, it seems like a common thing now so take heed if you're looking to come here.

I loved this gym . That was until they raised their prices without notification. Then when I tried to cancel I was told it could be only through email. I was extremely disappointed with my experience at House of Gains. The facility was overcrowded, making it nearly impossible to complete a proper workout without waiting excessively for equipment. On top of that, the cleanliness left a lot to be desired—the gym smelled unpleasant, and many areas, including the equipment, seemed poorly maintained.
Hygiene standards are critical in any gym, and unfortunately, this location fell short. There were minimal cleaning supplies available for members, and it didn’t seem like staff prioritized keeping the space tidy or sanitized.
Overall, the environment made it hard to feel comfortable or motivated to work out. I would not recommend this gym unless serious improvements are made to cleanliness, space management, and overall upkeep.
NOT WORTH PAYING

It’s been a very unpleasant experience dealing with this gym. Back in January, I wanted to cancel my membership because my employer at the time started paying gym memberships for employees at a different gym. So I reached out to see if I can cancel my membership and was told that I can’t because I was locked into a one-year contract, which ultimately I wasn’t happy about but I guess I understand. The person that I spoke to through email told me the best that he could do was to take my membership off of auto renew that way once my year was up I will no longer be charged sounds fair, right? Fast-forward now my membership is up and I’ve been charged twice since then and was charged a renewal fee. So again I reached out to see why I was being charged and come to find out that my account was never taken off of auto renew. The worst part about my experience is that this all has to be through email because they cannot cancel any memberships in Person or over the phone from what I was told so after emailing back-and-forth About my issue and getting a refund they stopped communicating to me through email and when I checked in again to see what the status was I still haven’t been refunded money that was owed to me and still have not heard back. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to cancel a gym membership ,I provided proof of my contract and the email chain from January saying that they would take me off of auto renew and I still haven’t gotten any responses back!

I hate that I feel the need to write a review...Been to a number of gyms in my lifetime and never had a problem with any of them. HOG was the worst gym I've been to by far. The cleanliness standard was terrible, constantly smelled like feet due to the fact that they don't have a janitor. This was the case everywhere besides the free weight section, which connected straight to the bathrooms (smelled like literal poop).
The weights were never racked properly. Almost all sections of the rack would have a combination of a 10lb, 25lb, and a 45lb plate on them.
My biggest peeve was that the water filter maintenance light was on red for the last 5 months that I was there (and tasted like it). I would ask the front desk if they could change it once to twice a month and was always met with, "We just got the filter in, we just need to change it". Couldn't make it up.
Lastly, I had debated writing a review and honestly wasn't going to. But after it took 5 days and 6 different people telling me that their manager would call me back shortly to assist me in canceling my membership, I felt the urge.

this gym is FILTHY. chunks of thick brown dust(?) and spider webs dangling from every inch of the ceiling in this place. really keeps you distracted while you do your hip thrusts and you're staring up at lord knows what that's dangling from up there. bathrooms were super janky and gross for a while. the sinks barely worked for the longest time, and would only dispense a limp strain of ice cold water. although, they eventually took the time to fix that and replace the broken faucets which was a nice little upgrade! a few times there were some mysterious leaks and questionable substances on the ground in there that i tried to ignore.
equipment is all super old and outdated. they break and are out of commission extremely often. even the 'new' machines that they bring in appear to be well worn and second-hand. i think i only saw one or two newer machines added in the couple years i went here. that was fine though as the membership wasn't super unreasonably priced and the atmosphere was professional and motivating.
my biggest gripe i have is that you can't cancel your membership in person.. or over the phone. they force you to 'email' to cancel so the manager can handle the cancellation process. which would be fine if they had an actual email listed anywhere? i used their website portal which says they'll get back to you within 48 hours of sending a message, received nothing back 3 weeks later. trying one more time to reach out to them but this process is honestly such a headache to deal with. also, the rude girl who answered the phone with literally just an agitated "hello..?" told me that once i email to cancel, they wont be cancelling my membership until AFTER the next billing date? super scammy and weird. not a fan. and since it's coming directly out of my bank account and not on a credit card.. it's pretty much out of my hands.
usually the staff was always pretty pleasant there. but i haven't actually been there in several months. but i think a good rule of thumb is not to answer a business' phone with just "hello?" and a tone that sounds like you're being inconvenienced for doing your job. safe to say once i finally get this sorted out, i won't be returning.

The idiot who answered the phone at House of Gains needs an etiquette lesson on how to answer a phone. You’re representing the business. I was really considering on signing up; however, if you can’t even speak clearly into the phone without mumbling or talking way to fast to explain the membership, then I’ll pass.

This has been my gym for a few years now. The demographic has changed from serious bodybuilders to a more general population which can make workouts after 5pm quite difficult as the gym fills fast. Overall it's a solid gym, however I have two major gripes
1. Pathetic Kettlebell selection for a gym this size, they should have a full set. Limited to a single pair of yellows (35lbs), it then jumps to a (single) orange (62lbs), a pair of reds (70lbs), and a (single) black. There is nothing in-between. They need to add a full set of pairs. Talked to more than a few members who agree.
2. Music is loud, mostly degenerate rap with lots of profanity. Bring noise-canceling headphones. Not sure why they can't turn it down. It's nice to not have to yell when working out with a friend.
Pros:
Lots of good stuff. Recently added Olympic Lift Platforms. Crossfit area. Turf with Tank Sled. Peg Board. Lots of Dumbells, Bikes, Stairs, even a tire! Large number of machines. Don't think Manager Tyler still works there but he was a really nice guy!

Giving me a hard time to cancel my membership. Because all they care for is to collect $. Like any other gym.. signed up before they were officially opened. Was told i could cancel at any time. Well they put me under contract.. after asking to “freeze” my account, they didnt. So they charged my Bank. Will be making a Huge statement when back in town. Gym is so dirty, all they care for is their “influencers” yet no cleaning crew is ever on site.

I’ve been at this gym a few months now, and the closer you look the worse it gets. This gym is EXTREMELY dirty, I have never seen a single cleaner in here - the treadmills are disgusting and are littered with caked dust and sweat - the Crossfit section looks neglected with literal spider webs and spiders crawling all over the CrossFit rig (see photos for both) the plates are mismatched and scattered everywhere around the gym, can’t find 5’s or clips to save my life. 300 machines and 4 platforms that are always taken with rusty barbells and caked on chalk that again no one cleans. I’d rather go to a commercial gym than this because I feel genuinely dirty whenever I leave this place to the point where I don’t even want to sit in my car. To top it off, twice now I’ve seen members come in and take off all of the weight on one side of the barbell first resulting in the bar flying up and almost hitting someone ! So dirty and unsafe as well 🫶🏻

Been coming here for 3 years. Used to be great. I don’t know what happened in the past year but the staff is so rude and the music is so loud it’ll ruin your workout. I’ve asked them to turn it down a little just so it isn’t blaring through my nose canceling headphones and the staff rolled their eyes at me and then refused to do so. I’m not asking them to turn it off, just down enough that people can also enjoy their own music.
This place used to show a lot of promise but the staff is rude and the atmosphere isn’t great. Go elsewhere if you have options.

I was visiting Georgetown and needed a place to train, so I decided to check out the House of Gainz. I liked the old school bodybuilding vibe, the music selection, and the endless equipment options.
At one point, a patron came over to help me adjust a piece of equipment after seeing me struggle to figure it out. I thought that was cool and it speaks to the quality of their clientele. I also just think Texans are some of the nicest people.
Things that could be improved: A quick tour of the gym for first-timers. There's a lot going on in there, and it took quite a bit of time to figure out where everything was, including the bathrooms and the water dispenser. A simple tour would have helped save time and frustration.
Cleanliness needs work. The gym floor was filthy. I've worked out in gyms all over the world, and have never seen a commercial gym so dirty at 7am. I used to own my own warehouse gym, so I know how hard it is to keep the floors clean. A standard for cleanliness should be upheld. In some parts of the gym it felt straight up unsanitary.
Beyond that, the gym is huge, the patrons are friendly, and the equipment options are endless. There was some clutter and disorganization in the back near the sled push/pull, which made finding things quickly a challenge.
The culture here is cool and it seems like a great gym that people really love.

my only concern is the water quality at the fountain. like i said, people are paying 50+ to go here a month and the water filter is constantly on the red light and no one seems to care. i get it were all badasses and everyones pumped up chugging the fountain but i have to wonder at the cleanliness of the water. its gross. other than that, would recommend!

I joined immediately after the pandemic. Needing a gym that met my needs, after the rude behavior of Gold’s in Round Rock. I think I outgrew that establishment, anyway. But, the day I visited HoG, I was sold. And that’s before all the new changes and upgrades.
I guess what I’m saying here is, this gym will meet any need, if you come in with a humbled heart. If you look for the negative, you’ll find it. Nothing on this earth is perfect. And never will be. But, things can be fixed to suit the need, is what the owner has been trying to achieve since taking over. If you see something out of place/wrong, say something to the staff. As for people and their rudeness, no one wakes up “on the right side of the bed” every morning of their lives. Even those that serve the customer. They are people, too! Sometimes, we have to try and see further than their faces, in that moment. They hurt and have problems, just as you. Stop being a hypocrite, and embrace the person for who they truly are, which is definitely not the person before you.

Absolutely terrible experience with place, just stop in to use restroom and tour the gym before getting membership, gm/manager at front desk was extremely rude and unprofessional. Definitely wouldn’t recommend at all, only took a couple steps in that place and I will never be coming back again!

I've been training at this gym for half a year, but the circumstances were such that I had to move. And they refused to close my membership until the contract expires, I do not go to the gym for more than 2 months, but they charge me! No one solves the problem with the customer! I am outraged. Be careful with this gym, if you buy a membership you will not be able to cancel it and unlink the card pay, you will be charged for not going to the gym!

Honestly the best gym I've ever had a membership too. I have a habit of joining and cancelling memberships, because I lack motivation, the equipment sucks, the atmosphere is awful, etc. But this is the first time that I've found a place where I feel accepted no matter how athletically inclined I am. There's way more than enough equipment so I never have to worry about waiting or skipping something in my routine. Everyone is so polite and respectful. I hope to find another gym like this if I ever have to move.

Great place till you want to cancel your membership. I'm a member of several gyms and I think it's easier to get out of the mob than it is to get out of your membership here. If you do the only thing you can to end your membership (change your credit card number) they will sic the most disgusting debt collector on you that will call your phone every day for 6 months

I've been a member of this gym for several years now. I was here with the old owners and I was here for the transition into new ownership. Since Keith took over ownership he has made many improvements. Replaced/repaired old equipment, added new equipment, updated many areas of the gym overall. This gym caters to many types of fitness wants/needs. Whether you want to do boot camp classes, CrossFit, body building, powerlifting, or just an average gym rat, they've got just what you need. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But if that's what you're looking for maybe look elsewhere and good luck to you finding it. Improvements are steadily being made and don't happen over night, y'all. You are given the opportunity to test the gym out with day passes. If you like it you have the option to sign up with a membership that does include a contract. It is legally bounding for whatever time frame is in the writing. Read it, understand it, accept the consequences if you try to break this contract. You either read it or you didn't. But you did sign it.

Wow, if I could leave 0 stars I would. My husband signed up for a 2 year membership over a year ago, went 7 times that first week and never again, and now over a year later when I try to explain to them that we have financial hardships and want out of a contract for a gym we do not use, did not like, and have no intention of ever going to again, we were met with a sassy front desk girl (who made it a point to tell me that she did me the “favor” of listening to me talk about the issue when in fact she talked over me, was short and snippy, and overall unprofessional). I do feel bad as I ended up calling her a B and hung up on her (apologies), but I have never spoken with an employee of any company this rude. The gym does not even have this contract for their customers anymore, I suppose because they had changed owners as another review pointed out. The manager Tyler had called me back a few weeks ago but then never answers when we try calling back, he’s always busy doing something which honestly just comes off like he’s dodging us. We will just end up paying our remaining fee as it’s not worth it any longer to try and talk to these people who practically make it a point to show us they only care about the money and nothing of the customer.

Edit -So if you leave them an honest and truthful review about the gym, the quality of the equipment, the cleanliness (lack of), and the glorified scam called their membership they will offer you a month free. A month free at the gym that has tried to scam me out of $200?
House of Gainz Management - No I don't want a free membership to a gym that isn't a gym I would spend any time in. I just want to released from the membership I tried to get out of months ago that your employee Tyler said I was in a year-long contract since I didn't cancel early enough which was a lie.
If bodybuilding is your thing this might be your place. The gym equipment is broken and unusable even though they charge an equipment fee. No idea where that goes.
The membership situation is trash. Signing up for a membership is just a scam with icing. Staff is lacking in professionalism and knowledge.
You would be better off with Golds or even CrossFit -gasp-.

If I could give this gym 0 stars I would. New gym owner “Keith” is a roid raging sad little man. Staff is worse. Another gym member there brandished a weapon and threatened me in the gym. Instead of kicking the person out of the gym they told him “not to bring his gun in anymore.” the owner proceeded to “little man syndrome” me while standing on equipment to be taller and yell at me when I asked to cancel my contract if they will not remove the other member. After yelling at me he agreed to cancel my contract and signed the documents to do so. Since then they have been still charging my account, and I have been calling the front desk to remedy it with no help. Just got off the phone with the front desk person after asking to talk to the manager “Hannah” and heard her tell him to “tell him I’m not here I don’t want to talk to him” shady gym management, roid rage owner, no AC too small of a spot with packed areas, don’t waste your time or money coming here there are better gyms locally.

I've worked out at several gyms throughout Central TX and this is by far my favorite in Austin. Keep in mind when looking at some of the less than 5 star reviews, that these people seem to think a gym will have everything for every demographic which is a ridiculous assumption unless your membership is 150/month. For an extremely affordable price, this is a great gym for recreational/competitive lifters, period

Missing the mark to be a great gym. The no AC think would be fine if there was proper ventilation and circulation but there isn’t. Random dirty fans is all there is. The worst part is trying to workout before work. They put some lipstick on the pig with a minimal makeover. But despite the fact that there’s no hot water in the shower it was impossible to cool off enough to get dressed. Circulating air, Hot water and AC in the dressing rooms should be a minimal expectation.
