Man they charging 50 bucks a month but can’t get no exterminator. Roaches and bugs everywhere like they pay for a membership. The restroom doors don’t work, the saunas smell of sweat and bad body odor. The merch they sell is terrible like a 10 year old made it and the machines feel raggedy and old. The cable machine by the big mirror shakes around when using heavy weight making it look flimsy. I wouldn’t go back to this gym at all and wouldn’t recommend it to anybody.

We recently switched from a major chain gym to a local facility, and while we’re very happy with the variety of equipment and the smaller crowds, the excessively loud and often vulgar music has been disappointing. The volume is so high that it can even be heard outside the gym. After seeing that several other members have expressed similar concerns, we hope management will consider adjusting both the type of music played and the overall volume to create a more welcoming environment for everyone.

I’ve been to many gyms, but this was by far one of the worst. For starters, there’s no air conditioning during the summer, which creates an unbearable environment especially when paired with the strong odor of sweat and humidity due to poor cleanliness. The saunas were particularly concerning, reeking of sweat and clearly not being sanitized properly, which raises serious health concerns.

Even more alarming, I noticed hanging wires and what appears to be black mold on the ceiling, along with layers of dust and spiders throughout the facility. It’s clear that routine cleaning and maintenance are not a priority here.

To top it off, the gym charges $50/month, which is outrageous given the condition of the space. The owner often promises improvements, but nothing ever changes. I cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for a clean or safe workout environment.

Ok so I have been coming to this gym for about a year now and feel that it’s time for me to drop a review for my time here. I think that businesses need honest reviews so that they can see how their customers feel about their businesses and know how they can improve. I consider myself a professional lifter as I have been lifting since I was 13 years old. I have gone to about 5-6 other gyms so I am comparing my review to those.

I will start with the pros:
One huge pro that gives this gym 2 stars is, it’s a weight gym. I’m tired of 99% of gyms being more of a fitness center that’s halfway filled with treadmills and stupid bikes. It’s a waste of time. This is a weight gym to gain muscle and burn calories. This gym is full of equipment, and I never have to wait for a machine to open cause there’s 5 more that you can use or do a similar workout. It’s awesome.

1 star goes to the size of the gym, and the lack of people that go here. This gym is huge and full of equipment, and when I go in the morning, there’s never more than 10 people there so I am able to get my workout done without having to wait for anyone. Going to city gyms, this is a huge problem where half your workout you’re just standing around and waiting.

Ok now for the cons:
1 missed star, This gym has a very bad first impression. When we first moved to Sealy, there was only two gyms. This one, and another one in town that closed 1 week after we got here. We walked into HYFR to check it out and dang, my wife and I looked at each other and said no way are we going here. The speakers are so loud you can’t even listen to your own music with headphones utilizing noise cancelling.

The floors are poop brown and nasty looking, so I guess if you take a dump on the floor while you’re maxing your squat, it won’t be as noticeable. The place is not very clean, either, I don’t think the equipment ever gets cleaned. I bring my own towel unless you want to use one of theirs that others have already used, I think that’s gross. When I wipe down the equipment before I use it, it always turns brown and gross the first wipe. So this place could benefit from more cleanliness. Most gyms allow you to grab a fresh towel and then throw it in a hamper when you’re done. Even hotels do that. Also, most of the equipment looks like it was taken out of the garbage or bought from a yard sale. They have bought some new equipment, but it’s equipment that I’m sure no one will use. They don’t replace or fix up the equipment that people actually use. However, they finally got new free weights, gosh dang it was ridiculous.

1 missed star: The huge issue for me with this gym, and why this gym can never be more than 3 stars to me is the bathroom situation. This issue is so bad that I’ve considered going to other gyms several times. They only have 2 bathrooms for the whole gym, and no dressing rooms. Well most of the time people are using the bathrooms as dressing rooms so it’s a good 15-20 minute wait before you can use it. What they need to do is just add some dressing rooms. This is the only gym I’ve ever been to that doesn’t have dressing rooms for people, so I can’t blame them for using the bathrooms to change. But dang, when I’m in the middle of a workout and that preworkout hits, you gotta go. Try holding that in for 20 minutes. I’ve had to end my workouts early to go home to use the bathroom.

The other big issue is the price. The price to go here is insane. Theres no amenities, the gym is dirty, and the equipment is old. But the equipment is never broken so that’s good. The issue is there is no other gyms that are close so they jack up the price. The closest gym is the anytime fitness in brookshire.
So this is my review, it’s a good gym. However I think all the people giving this place 5 stars have not been working out for very long, or been to another gym before. But I will say, if you just want to lift weights, and not have to stand around, this gym is great.

Realistically, this gym has a TON of potential not being fulfilled. It's like a weird mix that specializes in nothing.
Theres no bike or row machines for cardio and the ellipticals are setup so you're staring at whoever is on the stair master which is awkward.
It almost feels like it wants to be a bodybuilder/powerlifter gym but it doesn't have plyo boxes or different styles of barbells and you have to constantly look for a collar due to the lack of them.
It has a ton of free weights which is really cool and a major plus. Except that they don't enforce a rerack policy and they don't keep it organized during the day so good luck with that.
It does have a nice selection of saunas and 2 bathrooms and 1 shower so another plus there. But also bring your own paper towels and toilet paper since it's usually out of atleast one of the 2.
The music can be... different..

Overall the gym has the bones to be really solid but you can just tell whoever manages/owns it are not passionate and really love it. Theres no "vibe" to the place.
It's the best gym in the area but also the only gym in the area.

I'd recommend it with caution. It's decent but if you have high expectations then you'll be let down.

The space is pretty nice but the music is always to loud. I worked with the only trainer there. They were friendly, seemed knowledgeable but flakey. Without warning or explanation I was dropped like a hot potato. Would not recommend this place.

Hyfr is the place to be if you wanna get shreddedddd this summer it kinda grew on me. The first time coming I was a little scared because everyone was big and buff but once you start to talk to everyone you get real comfortable and realize everyone is nice and the energy is amazing. The saunas are also amazingggg. Good weights everything just has a nice placement and no matter where you look you can always see your beautiful reflection everywhere telling yourself it’s an amazing day and if you don’t push yourself who will😎

Where do I even start. I was a member over at another local gym here in sealy and I just wasn’t feeling it anymore it was time for a change that was very much needed. I didn’t feel judged here, obviously I didn’t know what I was doing which you could tell by the way I swung those weights around. Yet no one bothered to criticize or make me feel not welcome. Have made a lot of new friends ever since I joined. The place is always clean, there’s A LOT more machines here than there is at any other gym here in Austin county, that I know of that is, and the atmosphere all around is just exactly what you need wether you’re trying to find yourself, trying to find peace, or trying to find yourself shredded for the upcoming summer. Grateful for the HYFR Team.

I love HYFR and the community there. I feel welcomed and I don’t feel judged at all. I love the water fountains they provide. The sauna is amazing. Everything is well kept and clean. Loving the new renovations as well. The treadmills face the windows so I can watch everyone and they’re tinted windows!! The shower is pretty and big

I was a member for a few months but just bailed for a few key reasons. First the gym has cold concrete floors, bare walls and extremely cranked up music playing as you will read in other reviews. What you don’t read is the echo chamber effect or vulgarity of random genres because they give out the Bluetooth code and anyone can play anything. Most likely because there is not an internal closed circuit standard auto playing (ambient atmospheric) club style playlists as most places have.
The free weights are as old yard sale stuff with skinny handles compared to modern equipment. Mixed matches weights and equipment throughout.
No area for stretching or any provided pads you can grab o protect your knees, or areas to do freestyle as most places do. Not a clean towel dispenser, sanitizing spray bottles, vending equipment, and only a office style water dispenser with no cups ever. It’s located in an outdoor mall that actually has no retail stores anymore just other random businesses. That’s the main reason for the restrooms to lack in comparison to most gyms and it’s expensive to remodel and set up stations with the appropriate water, power, walls, lighting etc so for the price high end gyms cost you will not be the same comforts. And there is no security from what I have ever seen and that’s uncomfortable when often see broken glass out in the parking lot. All reviews are five star yet is this really the case? They manage to pull anything less than a 5 star off google each time. I got the screenshots to show it. This just makes me want to inform the public even more valiantly. Hyfr is one of the very few gym facilities in the area. If you have a broad gym membership and facility history as I have you’ll see the stark difference in the 5 star insider reviews vs the actual feel and quality there. But it’s all just opinion I guess. So if you can get google to show only the positive opinions to the public really doesn’t help out consumer searching public opinion. I would say not worth what they charge for a membership.

I really wish there were more options in Sealy for gyms. Unfortunately, this is a major area that Sealy still lacks. This couldn’t be more true referring to with this specific establishment. As a woman & mom, I was compelled to write a true review because the only information available on regarding this company otherwise, seems to be all falsified &/or glowing advertisements & reviews about it’s a “wonderful” “family” appropriate gym, NOT THE CASE.
I’m not comfortable allowing my teen daughter workout here after experiencing what the actual atmosphere is and how unavoidable & inescapable it is.
The facility has a cold, run-down vibe, with old equipment. It’s uncomfortable & unwelcoming, especially for females who go workout alone or at night. In fact, I don’t recommend working out here after sundown because it has floor to ceiling / wall to wall glass windows that turn it into a fishbowl for anyone to watch you as you work out without you knowing.
It’s located in a set-back & secluded section of an outdoor outlet mall that has been empty & vacant for years; now there’s a couple of random stores that are open during the day, yet the gym or vacated mall offer NO security. Nothings that allows for or offers any sense of security. Just being honest.
There are no private areas inside the gym for women or girls. Doesn’t have its own restrooms, locker rooms, or showers. The only usable restroom for gym patrons is behind the gym in a dark hallway…a common area that was once part of the now closed down outlet mall.
There are no areas available for stretching, warm-up, core training, mats, workout balls/bands/straps, lacking mirrors throughout to watch your form…
My fiancé has tried to leave an HONEST review of this gym because he cancelled his membership politely but for the above reasons, however, the owner continued to
charge his credit card unauthorized.
So, after being lied to & charged multiple times without authorization, he decided to write an honest & real review. But, writing & posting multiple times, his review keeps mysteriously vanishing… weird… since all of the other 5-star reviews remain. He simply wanted a refund for the charges that the owner made to his card that were made unauthorized & after the gym was notified of the cancellation. Upon canceling the gym was no longer visited, yet, the owner continued to make charges while being fully aware of the cancellation since there had been multiple first hand conversations & communication. Customer retention & value of gym members don’t seem to be a concern for this business.
Insider tip: Bring your own earbuds unless jamming out to another patron’s heavy metal, as it’s blasted over the loudspeakers for your enjoyment, at ear rupturing decibels because the people on charge allow access open to the sound system for whomever connects 1st via Bluetooth.

HYFR is a gym rats paradise. There's plenty of squat racks, bench racks, free benches, machines, platforms, and overall equipment throughout the gym. They even have calibrated plates for powerlifters! From what I've heard, it's only a soft opening and there is more to come.

Great gym, has everything you’d need to powerlift or bodybuild, with plenty more equipment on its way. Good lighting, ceiling mounted speakers/subs, new gym bars, calibrated kilo plates and lb plates. Gym has a good vibe/music.
