What should have been a fun summer experience for my children turned out to be the opposite. Unfortunately, the instructors at this camp created an environment that left my children coming home in tears multiple times.

As a parent, it’s frustrating to watch your children dread going to a place that’s supposed to build confidence and joy. I expected trained, compassionate staff who understand how to work with kids, but that was not our experience. There seemed to be a serious lack of empathy and communication, and the atmosphere felt more rigid than nurturing.

I hope Kids Strong takes this as an opportunity to reevaluate their training and approach. Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and inspired at a camp, not broken down by it.

I have had the worst experience dealing with them. I did a trial class back in March and I paid that application fee that day because it was half the price but told them I can’t commit to the membership yet because I was waiting for summer time. Then I checked and saw they added me to a 6 month membership in March without my authorization. I have not gotten one call back and probably called 15 times at this point. They finally cancelled my membership yesterday but haven’t heard back about my refund which is now $260 that they owe me. They didn’t even tell me that they keep my credit card information on file to even start me up a membership. The fact that they won’t call me is what is the most frustrating.

Our child has attended 4 sessions of the 2 year old class that they recommended for him even though he is not even 2 years old yet. The classes consist of a very aggressive "coach" who starts the classes by immediately blasting very loud heavy metal music at volume levels well over the AAP recommended 60db. This is DAMAGING toddler's developing ear drums! After the intro, the rest of the class is continued blasting of heavy metal music while the "coach" yells for the toddlers to do different exercises. They do not actually TEACH anything. The parent is expected to lead and guide the child through the courses while the coaches very rarely help by holding a hand. Nothing taught or learned from the coaches or classes what so ever. My child has had anxiety and cried and every class he has attended. We hoped he would at least make friends at the class, but since the entire concept of Kidstrong is competition and "winning" the kids are all pitted against each other and are not friendly to each other. Even the parents seem to have the same unfriendly attitudes. There have been no smiling parents during the classes we have attended. Maybe they were all just as stressed out as I was as a parent trying to run my child through the 45 minutes of hell. While older children may enjoy the exercise and competitive nature of the program, Kidstrong seems completely inappropriate for very young children.

Now to the SCAM PRICING MODEL:
We signed up for the "month to month" plan over the phone and were never told of their ridiculous cancelation policy. I was told to come to the class about 5 minutes early to "sign paperwork". As instructed, I came 5 minutes early to the first class. The aggressive "coach" shoved a tablet in my face and said I need to sign many areas. Pressured by her aggression, I signed what I thought were just waivers, but apparently the cancel policy was within the electronic documents. At no time was the policy pointed out by anyone from Kidstrong or ever discussed verbally.

We let Kidstrong know we were considering canceling on April 1 after bad experiences at all 4 classes. They still failed to mention at that time that we had to give a 30 day notice. They later told us we had to email about wanting to cancel. After sending the email they told us that even though our child hates the classes we are being forced to attend until JUNE 5th. They want to charge us for 2 more months after the date that we asked to cancel. Based on their policy, we would have had to have canceled the day that we started the classes in order to be able to actually be able to quit after 1 month. Again, at no time during my discussions with the Kidstrong employee who signed us up was it said that we would be REQUIRED to attend 2-3 months of classes by signing up. This is completely predatory practice to slip ridiculous membership terms and cancelation policy past parents by having them sign documents in the RUSHED and CHAOTIC 5 minutes prior to class while they hold crying toddlers scared by the blasting heavy metal music in the background.

Yes there is some competition, for about the last 3 -5 minutes of the class, where encouraging your teammates is the focus, and winners are sometimes chosen arbitrarily (they are three, who really knows what they are doing) and Im glad they compete. It's important to learn that winning feels good and is the product of hard work.

Our 3 year old LOVES KidStrong! She's asks us every day, "Is today KidStrong day?" She loves the fun, energetic, loud, interactive coaches. She runs around the house, shouting, "BOOOST!" declares, "I can do this," when she's getting ready to do something that makes her nervous, and can now jump with 2 feet (a gross motor skill She was delayed in). I love being able to still be involved in the class with her. Once they start independent sports, I'll be in the sidelines forever. The coaches offer encouragement and a hand when needed but allow parents to be as involved as they want to be.
My daughter requires a slight accommodation, and the staff worked with us to make it happen and never made us feel bad about it. She is now introducing herself to people (she still hides behind me a little while doing it, but it's progress). Their program has been nothing but beneficial to her development emotionally and physically. Thank you so much, KidStrong!

Full time traveler here (@whatrvdoing). We were fortunate enough to be in town for the grand opening of this site and let me tell you the business model is AMAZING. Our son was instantly hooked.
