Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course in Fredericksburg, Texas, is a beautiful golf course with stunning scenery. However, my experience was tarnished by the aweful behavior of the golf director, Chris Meade. He is, without a doubt, the most unprofessional person I’ve ever had to deal with.

From the moment I walked into the golf shop, he was rude and condescending, making me feel small and belittled. When I returned to ask about the availability of more golf carts after noticing several just sitting there, he got irritated that I was back asking about any potential carts that might have come in.

It’s heartbreaking to encounter such disrespect when all I wanted was to enjoy a day at this gorgeous course watching my son in a tournament. Unfortunately, the staff's horrible and rude behavior overshadowed what could have been a fantastic experience. This kind of treatment is unacceptable, especially from someone in a leadership role. I left feeling disheartened and disrespected.

Remember the name, Chris Meade, because when you read his staff bio on the website, it is not the person you meet face-to-face. It’s easy to write something on a website, but that does not translate to who you are.

Beautiful!! Absolutely loved the course. The front 9 is way prettier than the back but still no complaints. Didn't try any food or drinks but the club house is really nice and they sell anything you need. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Beautiful course. Saw lots of deer, ducks, and an airplane take off from the airport. Greens in great shape and a good mix of wide open fairways, hills, water, and challenging holes. They also have an option for only 9 holes for the later tee times which is nice.

My wife and I are fairly new to golf and look to book a quick 9 anywhere we go. Saw this place called and booked a tee time. It was great! Fairways and greens were in great shape, the staff was nice, overall a great experience, and we look forward to going back!!

The Poa annua weeds on the greens are out of control. A 4 foot putt is a guessing game when the ball is bouncing on weeds.

Great course just outside Fredericksburg. Worth the 45min drive from SA medical center area. Came on a Thur 7AM. Flew along the front 9, then hit a mens group that started on 14the hole. A little waiting in beginning but then all moved along pretty good. Thanks to Yolanda in clubhouse and all the greens keepers and workers that do a great job out here.

The club house was nice. Merchandise was pretty expensive but that's pretty common for a golf pro shop. Range ball costs are RIDICULOUS. Course was in great shape but it has been raining constantly for a month and it's May (I can only see how this course is in September..). Greens were in good shape. Marshall was a bit cold. I think he thought we drove over some tee boxes (some others before us obviously had). I witnessed them letting sixsomes play, so if you are a single golfer or a group of two and behind a large party that they obviously let on the course, I feel sorry for you. Going on that bad, a little bit expensive for what it is, but my brother-in-law and I had a good time. If there were other options in the area, I would probably pursue those. Thing is...there isn't 🤣

Red Bird Lounge has a wonderful burger. John's sauce is to die for. Course is beautiful. Greens were half poana and half Bermuda. Ball wouldn't roll straight if it hit a stalk of poana.

I'd take the 1.5-hour drive to play again. I give four stars due to the greens being full of weeds, but the course isn't in horrible shape. It's better than the alamo trail courses through this time of the year in 2024. And the food, pretty dang good.

This was my first time playing here. The clubhouse and restaurant are well worth a look around and grabbing some food. The carts are GPS enabled and even come with a radio and Bluetooth speaker. The driving range is well marked, but it is not near the pros shop. The course was in pretty good shape with a few dry spots here and there. The greens were very good. But hard!! Many of the greens are elevated and if you miss ..get ready to pull out the lob wedge! The course can be tight in certain places and wide open in others.

This is a nice track. The staff was very friendly. The course was in OK condition. The holes are interesting, like the elevation changes. I played from the whites so a bit short. Front 9 a little narrow. The carry on the number 1 handicap hole on the front, a par 5 was intimidating, glad I barely made it over best drive of the day. Pace of play was fine, just under 1:45 on the front and the back so under 3:30 total, not bad. We only had to wait for the twosome ahead of us 3 or 4 times and finished right behind them on 18.

So the front 9 was great would have rated this course a 4 star if we had the same experience on the back, but that did not happen.

We took a quick 2 minute restroom break at the turn and when we went to the 10th tee a foursome had jumped in front of us and had teed off ahead of us. It looked like they had all hit their tee shots purposely down the 18th fairway (all four of them appeared to be playing down the 18th fairway backwards). So we were a little confused but went ahead anyway. They motioned us from the 18th fairway to go through so we did but then they were right behind us pressuring us to move ahead, so we picked up and went to the 11th tee. I parked the cart on the 11th tee we got out of the cart and just as we did one of the guys airmailed the 10th green and hit our cart on the fly. Really disconcerting. It rattled my wife so much, as she was a few feet away when it happened. The combination of being pressured and then experiencing in coming really blew the rest of the 9 for her, which in turn blew it for me. I can only guess, but perhaps the foursome was either staff getting in 9 holes or maybe friends of the starter and the starter tried to jam them on the course while we were in the restroom, who knows, could have been just bad judgement on someone's behalf, no way they should have been there at all, the whole thing was bizarre. Remember we got around in under 3 1/2 hours and finished right behind the twosome ahead of us so there was not any real "gap" to fill.

A couple of holes later I inadvertently drove my ball into a fairway bunker. Being in my 70s I'm not a big hitter, but I guess the bunker was closer than I thought. While looking for my ball the "Nanny" feature on the GPS locked the cart out of forward, just as I got even with the fairway bunker and I had to move in reverse all the way back to the cart path 75 yards back up the fairway to get it back in forward. I get it if you are too close to the green, but this was within a few feet of a fairway bunker. Perhaps the GPS "Nanny" feature needs to be recalibrated.

A few holes later I ran into the mowers. I get their job is tough trying to mow when people are playing. These guys acted like they were totally oblivious to our presence. They didn't slow us down much, probably around 5 or 6 minutes which we made up in the next few holes. Normally not worth mentioning but by then on top of everything it became a lot more annoying than it would normally have been.

All and all I think we probably just came to the course on a bad day. I think we will give these guys the benefit of the doubt and next time we are in the area we plan to give this place a "do over".

If I could do zero stars I would. The gentlemen to confirm tee time was extremely rude and undermining. We arrived and he then rushed us saying “go on get” and sliding the keys to the cart at us. We were so speechless we didn’t even look for extra balls or even getting beverages before we left to play. A beverage cart never came by the whole time we played which is so disappointing as you are not allowed to take any outside beverages in!!! If you want to enjoy a nice relaxing g game of golf DONT come here!!!

We had a big golf outing here this weekend and it was awesome. Chris help us put it together and everything ended up being top notch. Great course with beautiful, open views of the Texas Hill Country. The course is well-kept, and the staff is fantastic and helpful. When I was in town for a wedding, I accidentally left one of my clubs in a bag my buddy rented, and they very kindly shipped it to me. 3. Even at normal pace of play can still be told to “speed up” by Marshal
4. Poor planning on course makes for nearly getting hit and nearly hitting other golfers on different holes

If I am paying over $70 a round I would expect the course to be at least decent. This course is average at best…greens are extremely inconsistent, fairways are hit and miss, and some of the tee boxes are completely ripped up. Additionally, we were playing 15-20 mins a hole and got told multiple times to speed up our game play by the marshal. Seems pretty rude to continue to target us when we are playing at or faster than the rate of play throughout the course. If I am paying $70 per round I will find somewhere else to play or not play at all if my only choice is this course.

I’m from out of town and came here to play while I’m in Fredericksburg. Honestly, it’s a great course. The greens were well maintained, and the fairways were nice. The greens were playing a little soft so you could go after the pins. Very forgiving and open. It’s a fun course with beautiful views! Deer are all over the place. The club house was nice, and the staff was great. The course dog was solid, a little bready for my liking but the dog itself was cooked thru. If you have a chance book a tee time don’t hesitate. They took care of me.

this course has a very cordial staff and good facilities, well managed. Cart equipment is in great shape and consistent. Some greens are in need of reseeding probably from the unusual 2021 winter temperature variations. Some of the traps have way too much sand in them- to the point of loosing a ball if you are not careful. But overall a very nice playing experience.

Course has an interesting layout, but was in pretty bad shape. Lots of weeds and dead areas. Fairways weren’t great. I felt the red tees were too short, but disappointed that the green tees (which I played ) and the white tees (which my husband played ) were so close together on many holes. This is on behalf of two opinions combined. The layout looks great from above, and even pulling into the clubhouse, this place looks good. The trees are nice. But after paying 60 dollars to ride as out of towners, we were thoroughly disappointed.

The teeboxes and fairways were fine, but the greens and bunkers were a joke. Except it was one of those jokes that wasnt very funny. Every green complex is basically GUR bro. Thats not 60 type play. The greens were some of the slowest i have played in years, and although it was a bit wet from rain the nacht before, 60 dollars should pay for a fresh cut every morning. The bunkers were showing tarp bro. They basically shipped in playground sand and dumped it into the traps to about 30 percent full. There were no rakes. It is challenging playing shots from a greenside sand dune.

Everything else was lovely. The cart was amazing. Also, the practice areA was a blast.

Very nice and affordable course. Some buddies and I are visiting from out of town and we had a very enjoyable time. The course was lush and well maintained, the carts seemed new and included an interactive monitor, and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The bartender at the cafe/bar was also very friendly and recommended several places to visit for dinner. I would definitely go back the next time I’m in the area.

I played this course on Saturday the 11th of July. All I can say is WOW! Tee’d off at 7:20 and was done by 10:30 and I walked. Tee boxes, Fairways are in excellent condition and the greens are in absolutely FANTASTIC condition.

I rarely pay $62 to play golf but I was on vacation. I was nervous but I think the course was in amazing shape. The fairways were well maintained and plush, greens were looking and playing well.

During all this COVID stuff they have been one of the better courses I have played.

Also, Chris (the manager) was amazing. One of our players had to cancel last minute and he worked with us even in his time off. He was quick to respond to email and very courteous. First Class customer service.

I arrived an hour early for a tee time that showed five openings available on there website, On thy account three of my phone calls yesterday went to there voicemail. I arrived an hour early and was told everything is booked till 12:30... I was looking at this information during our road trip 12 hours ago... Long story short it's 2019 and they can't afford to update there website or run the club house.

Lovely atmosphere, great facilities.... But, while we were there, a park ranger drove up and said that to use the pavilion, we had to pay a fee. We asked how we were supposed to know that as there was no sign. He proceeded to unlock a sign next to the pavilion that had the information we were missing... Then he locked it again. So, how are people supposed to know??!? Anyway, we moved and had a lovely day.
