Large boulder only gym with a decent size weight area.
Pros: lots of boulders, decent setting variety, good size spray wall, moon board (soon a kilter board as well, supposedly), quick setting schedule
Cons: Gets very busy in the evenings, boulders get a lot of traffic so friction is often bad, grading feels very inconsistent
Overall a good gym, definitely the best in Houston proper.

Updated rating: since my review, new boulders have included many fun and “properly” rated beginner routes.
Well done!
We have been members since the opening in Katy. Unfortunately, the route setting for beginners/ V0-4 has been going downhill. There are fewer routes most of them uninteresting or way harder than what they should be. The grading is inconsistent making it demotivating. I can understand slight differences due to size but when you need down climb holds for a V0 something isn’t right.

Of the dozen climbing gyms I’ve been to this is in the top half. Other cities seem to grade climbs easier though. the only city that was harder at the same score level was Nashville. Auston and Omaha however rate there climbs 2-3 levers higher than Momentum rates there's. I currently climb V3 to V4 at momentum but in Omaha and Austin I climb V5-V6. in Nashville I climb a V1-2.

The only reason I didn't give Momentum a rating of 5 stars is because you guys do not offer a sauna room. A sauna room would raise your gym another level. It would be a great place to relax after a great workout. I believe a comprehensive fitness facility would appeal to a lot of people. My two cents...get ahead of the curve before another gym beats you to the punch.

Momentum Silver Street is a fantastic gym for bouldering as it offers a space for everybody at all levels. For first timers, they’ll have you fill out a waiver form, grab your rental climbing shoes (bring socks!), and watch an introduction safety video for the gym. They do a great job at switching out the routes every few weeks, so it doesn’t get boring.
There’s a small store at the front of the gym where you can buy climbing gear such as shoes, chalk, chalk bags, etc. Additionally, they sectioned off the back area for gym equipment such as weights, pull up bars, and a stretching area.
Momentum also offers yoga classes and workshops! Do not sleep on the yoga classes! They’ve introduced me to many different types of yoga and wonderful instructors. The classes are free for members, so I highly recommend taking advantage of the classes if you do have a membership. I’ve noticed they’re more beginner friendly compared to studios that specialize in yoga, but I actually prefer the level they do it here at Momentum. So don’t let the yoga classes intimidate you!
Overall, Momentum is a great gym for bouldering and building community. Additionally, it offers a plethora of activities and events, outside of climbing. And don’t worry about parking, there’s plenty!

Edit 2: on 5/16/25, the AC is broken again. Don’t worry though. They have techs coming to look at it.
Edit 1: membership now $107/mo. 27% price increase in just a few months.
This gym has been without functioning AC for the entire summer of 2024. I would wait until the weather cools down before visiting. An additional downside to the heat is that the gym smells like a sweaty locker room.
Management has not explained what the issue is, and it’s unclear why the issue has persisted for so long during the hottest part of the year. Management says that they have been in “constant communication” with their HVAC company, but this communication still hasn’t translated into a functional AC system and more reasonable temperatures.
Momentum has not maintained the Silver Street location and it is no longer on par with other modern gyms or the $84/mo price tag. A new bouldering gym is under construction about 10 minutes away, scheduled for completion in 2025.
On the plus side, bouldering is a good activity and gym also has cardio and weightlifting equipment.

I was a member here for about a year and a half. In that time frame, they had an AC out for literally 6 months (during the middle of summer), had a flood that literally closed down 65% of the gym for about 6 months, and multiple times water has been completely shut off to the building because water was RUSHING out from the bathroom (toilets). And for some reason they thought it would be a good idea to not only increase prices BUT INCREASE THEM BY 25%. I honestly hope this company goes out of business due to their greed and would wholly recommend you to find literally any other gym. Rock climbing is fun, but just like everything else, greed killed it. Hope you guys are happy!

I really like this climbing gym! There are many different types of routes with a wide range of difficulties. The routes are regularly updated, which is great!
Recently, however, the prices have increased significantly. I feel like the gym is taking advantage of the fact that it’s the only climbing gym in Houston.
I tried one of the Monday night mobility classes at 8:30 PM out of curiosity, and I absolutely loved it! It’s a mix of flexibility and strength training across the full range of motion. I’ve already recommended it to several of my friends. I’m quite stiff, and Max’s advice was really helpful—he’s a boss!
I’m giving it a 4/5 because of the recent price increase.

This review is for Max, one of the staffed instructors. I will leave a separate review about the overall gym/organization.
In short, Max is who persuaded my friends and I to become members of Momentum. It wasn't for the climbing culture or well-stocked free weight training area. However, he did not perform any type of persuasion other than being a professional expert of his practice.
Context: I have been teaching for nearly 10 years in colleges and public schools. I greatly admire his applied philosophy of leadership and education. Max's approach to instruction reflects his students' needs and developing a positive classroom culture. He takes the time to build rapport with each person, both old and new, and learn their fitness needs and functions.
Like many, I am an aging (prior) college-athlete with an assortment of old injuries and a strong desire for a sliding scale of challenges for my body. Max could teach a masterclass on bringing students up to their threshold of function and form without risking injury or harm (both physical and emotional). (Subtext: His classes are incredibly challenging, but will always encourage self-advocacy and learning one's own body).

I used to climb regularly for years and have been wanting to get back into it after recovering from some severe injuries but was nervous. One of the yoga instructors, Max, leads a functional movement class that is incredible. I actually decided to spring for the annual membership because of how beneficial his classes are. It feels like a step up from my physical therapy exercises in a way that challenges me and progresses my mobility. He's has given fantastic advice, and I go to his classes every week now. He does a phenomenal job of pushing everyone, while also maintaining a safety first mindset and encouraging rest whenever necessary.

We called this afternoon to ask about the price increase, as we noticed the charge was higher than before and no email was ever sent out to notify us.m, and nothing was posted on their instagram. The guy that answered, his name is “Jay”, was rude. He told us that hes noticed multiple people saying the same thing about the email, but that “thats not a valid excuse as we put up multiple signs about 15 days ago”. We expressed that we work and have been busy, and that we haven't been to the gym in the past 2 weeks and an email would have been helpful. His response was “well everybody here also has a job and they were aware of the charges and they havent complained”. Like yes, im sure the people who you have seen at the gym recently were aware, that was not the point at all.
Jay is rude, and that comment was uncalled for, and we have never seen someone be rude like that in the 2 years we have been going there.

I've been climbing at momentum for a few years now. Big fan of the people that work there, climb there, and the route setters are great. But this past year has been pretty wicked. Over 6 months of no AC during peak heat in the summer, and half the gym closed down due to a leak they had. So half the gym for half the year and they turn around and raise prices? I might've missed it but I never saw a notice that the prices were raising either. Overall a pretty disappointing year from Momentum management and I hope they listen to the feedback and get better. Maybe when their new location opens they'll reduce their rates again...

update 2/4/25: Bumped my review even lower - despite the gym constantly being filthy and members never receiving any compensation for the several months in 2024 when half of the gym was unusable, Momentum is now raising their membership prices. Seems like they want to fund their new gyms without doing any work to improve existing gyms.
update 8/1/24: I’ve got to lower my rating because of the gym’s recent state. They had a big leak which caused half of the gym to be unusable. Which is understandable, but it has been months with only half the gym accessible. What is most frustrating is the gyms response… they won’t offer a discount to members, even though members are getting half of what they paid for. I bought a year long membership and there’s no way for me to freeze my membership, so I’m stuck. Plus, the A/C seems to be broken about half the time. I’m seriously considering not renewing my membership after it expires because going to the gym is not a pleasant experience anymore.
—-
I’ve been a member here for a little less than two months and I love it! It’s a massive climbing gym with lots of different types of climbing routes. Plus they change sections every week which keeps things fresh. They have a good deal for new members where if you buy a pair of shoes and a chalk bag you get your first month free. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Plus they offer classes for beginners. In addition to all the climbing offerings, they also have a weight room and a cardio room!! And they offer workout classes and yoga classes. Truly they have everything. The parking lot can get a little crazy. Just because they’re a popular place :)

Unfortunately Momentum has priced out its some of its long term members with not one but two price hikes within the last year in addition to removing any discounts whatsoever (student and partner organizations). The most recent price hike had virtually no notice and goes into effect this month.
I have been a member since 2020 and the last year the quality of the gym has gone down. For a gym that promotes creating community, actively making climbing inaccessible financially completely negates that. If you try to bring this up to the gym for feedback they will retaliate and in some cases even block you on social media accusing you of harassment and hurting their brand. This brand also included employees telling people they cannot complain about the air conditioning being broken (check reviews during summer 2024), you won't be able to find these on the gym instagram because all evidence has been removed.
The gym does a poor job of cleaning its facilities, promoting safe climbing environments by allowing its climbing team to constantly overtake climbing areas regardless of other paying members wanting to climb, and removed any and all evidence of the AC not working during the entire summer of 2024.
New members deserve to know what they may be signing up for, but if you can afford it I guess it doesn't really matter. Sad that this company promotes so much of what makes climbing great but actively negates that with the way they treat their members.

Momentum Climbing Gyms in Houston have been a decent option for indoor climbing, but the recent price hike to $100 a month is both disappointing and difficult to justify. Having recently moved from DFW, where student memberships are $65 with access to six exceptional facilities, the comparison is staggering. Houston only has two locations, and while they are nice, they lack updates and are subpar for what you’d expect at this price point.
Charging significantly more for less is exploitative, pricing out students and young adults and undermining the sense of community that Momentum prides itself on. The promise of opening another bouldering gym in the future does not justify this increase—it is nothing less than corporate greed.
Momentum needs to rethink this decision and focus on improving its facilities by addressing much-needed renovations, resolving setting inconsistencies, maintaining basic hygiene, and investing in a dependable AC unit. Until then, I’m canceling my membership. I refuse to support a business that exploits its community simply because it’s the only option.

UPDATE: gym is back to normal now. Going to leave this review here and only bump it up to 3 stars because nothing was done about the gym being out of order for months (they charged full price still).
I've been going here for years. Normally its a great gym but there are MAJOR issues right now:
- Its way too hot in the gym (broken AC)
- Most of the gym has been closed for months (mat repairs)
- They are charging full price even though issues have been going on for months
If there was another good gym option I would have canceled already, and Crux is opening a new climbing gym in Houston soon.
I understand these things are out of their control but you really should either discount members during this time, or at least give them free punch/guest passes that don't expire.
Its a pretty terrible experience right now and almost everyone I know has already cancelled their memberships because of it.

NOTE: I am spoiled by an extremely developed climbing scene in Britain with 15+ gyms to choose from in my city alone.
The gym is spacious, with dedicated warm up and training areas, plus some cardio upstairs.
Staff is incredibly nice and helpful, give the receptionists a hug, they are amazing!
There are plenty of areas to climb, including those with topouts. Holds selection isn't amazing, a lot of holds are old, greasy, and polished to death.
Route setting is great in terms of consistency, there are no one move wonders, pretty much every problem is workable, it is great for making progress and improving as a climber. Route setting styles are somehow limited.
The gym is really beginners friendly, there is a good variety of problems to get into climbing and it's not just jugs ladders, with interesting moves even at v1-2 levels.
There is a spray wall, a moonboard, and a woodie for those dedicated to train. No kilterboard (only because I couldn't find if this gym has it online).
I saw a bunch of comments about the AC not working. They must have fixed it, it is working now.
A single entry costs $25, which is quite pricy. Is it a perfect gym? Not really, but it's decent, especially since there is not much to compare it with in Houston.

If you get noise induced migraines this is not the place for you. The music volume is almost as loud as at a club. Even with headphones you can feel the music throbbing into your skull. I don’t know why a rock climbing gym is going for a club vibe. NEW UPDATE - AC working again and more of the gym is opening up. Cant go back to 5 stars tho due to all these issues.
UPDATE - Been climbing here for 4+ years. Half the gym isn't available but that's not their fault so can't complain. However, the AC has been pretty terrible since April or earlier. It seems to always have issues during the summer. I can think of at least 2 summers where it was barely working. I pre-paid for the whole year so I still go but will definitely be looking at Crux when they open.
OLD Review:
Haven't been to other bouldering gyms but this one is great. Started climbing here and I go pretty often. The staff are friendly and helpful. The problems get reset at a good pace. They offer yoga and have a regular gym too. It does tend to get kinda dirty but there's just so many people that come that it's unavoidable.

Writing this review in response to all the recent complaints. The gym had a leak that caused the need for parts of the gym to close to replace the mats. I'm not sure why the AC is out but it is... this isn't ideal! It sucks but this isn't the gyms fault and I wouldn't leave a bad review as it is.
Replacing all the mats and fixing the AC I'm sure have come at a great cost. The employees are awesome, the gym is huge with fun and challenging routes. I wouldn't blame the gym for experiencing some bad luck

AC issues for 3 months, poor communication and no reduction of price for half the gym closed. I barely go anymore and will likely cancel. They normally have three to five employees at the front desk area with no work to do and they’re just playing around with each other and you have to stand around for them to notice you or call at them to get their attention so you can get shoes. It’s unprofessional.

Finally threw in the towel and paused my membership (paid for a year back in November, so I can't cancel). I really tried to be patient with the AC being broken, half the gym being closed, and the crowds. It just got to the point that it wasn't worth the drive for me. Props to the local management for letting me pause my membership for free, but it feels like Momentum corporate is not willing to spend the money to fix the problem, since they know there's no competition in the area. In fact, the monthly membership rate has gone UP $5, from 85 to 90. Really sad, because I've climbed at Momentum for 5 years now and have lots of great friends from climbing there.

After going to several climbing gyms throughout the US and Europe this summer, it's safe to say this gym is poverty compared to any other gym. When you are essentially the only climbing gym in a major city, I expect to have a great experience. This summer has been an entire disappointment. Having half the gym shut down for 3 months, along with AC issues is insane to me. Given that this is the only gym people go to for climbing in Houston, they can get away with their lackadaisical practices because they know their members don't have another gym to go to. I personally work at a regular gym and our gym figured out their AC issues in five days. There is no excuse not to fix your air conditioning issues at the worst time of the year when your business lacks competitor climbing gyms.

really bad conditions recently due to closed off walls and broken AC, warm drinking water etc. Of course there are reasons for these issue and difficulties with rectifying them, but for one of the biggest gyms in the world, I have trouble understanding why Momentum corporate cannot do any better. There has been some transparency into the issues, but nothing that allows me to step back and say “ah I see, they really are doing the best they can”. I still enjoy the people and the climbs themselves, but the whole experience of climbing here is diminished by the conditions of the gym.

A/c has not been working properly for about 2 months and management has not communicated when it will be fixed. You cannot have a gym without a/c in Texas. I've been a member for years now, and I write this review as someone who loves this gym. The slow pace of HVAC repairs in a place like Houston is unacceptable. The lack of communication has been unprofessional.
Treating your customers like this when a competing bouldering gym is opening in the inner loop next year is certainly a bold move.
Edited to add: Momentum as a company also either needs to create a social media policy for employees to follow, or needs to train their employees on their social media policy. There are a few employees responding to various social media posts without being transparent that they are employed by Momentum and whether they are or are not authorized to be speaking on behalf of the company. Some of what has been said has been rather dismissive of the issues paying customers are facing. I was honestly rather neutral about the air conditioning issue at first, but some of the dismissive responses given by employees have been very off-putting when coupled with the lack of official communication.

Houston doesn’t have a lot of climbing gym competition and Momentum knows it.
Why else would a gym allow their AC system to remain broken for the entire summer? I understand the gym has faced some unique challenges over the last year with flooding and what not, but communication is always lacking and information withheld.
There was about a month after the flooding event where there were no updates on what the path forward would be (are you just gonna let the old pads dry out? will you have to get new ones? Is this a 3 week issue or a 3+ month issue?)
I don’t care if you tell me that you think it may take 2 months to sort out insurance issues for getting new padding. I can’t really take my business anywhere else. But it really builds bad blood with your members if you don’t provide updates on the progress you’re making and what the next steps are.
As for the AC issues : It’s great that you are “in constant communication” with your HVAC service providers, but when the AC has been broken for the past 3 months, “constant communication” doesn’t really inspire any confidence that the issue will be solved any time soon. Houston is one of the air conditioning capitals of the world, I would think a competent business would have found a way to solve the problem by now. An easy band-aid could be to lease some temporary mobile AC units and place them near each of the glass garage doors around the gym, but I’m not sure upper management is interested in spending any money at all to improve things.
While Momentum spends a lot of capital on their new 3rd location in the SLC area, they neglect their customers in Texas. I can only hope that other climbing gym operators read reviews like this and realize there is a large market of climbers at Momentum that can be very easily swayed to switch to the first new gym to establish itself in the downtown Houston area.
Also, your drink fridges are like 55-60 degrees. Could you crank those babies down while the AC is out?

Had I not received an email asking for a review I wouldn’t do this, but here we are.
Unfortunately I’m not very happy with what overall seems to be a corporate issue. I do believe the local staff is doing their best and likely working often to their maximum capacity.
Though communication has significantly improved as time has passed with the issues we’re currently experiencing, I was generally unhappy as the problems first unfolded as I felt the response in communication was subpar.
Currently, things I can point out other than the obvious is the need for general upkeep in the weight room and at minimum address that we do have an issue with cool water coming out of the water fountains.
The gym is expensive and is a top performer in momentum’s organization and it has been continuously obvious that corporate prioritizes dollars over the users time and time again.
I wrote this in the most objective way possible and hope for better times ahead. I do think the gym was good and look forward to things changing.

When I first joined Momentum, it was everything a climber could ask for—a clean, spacious environment with challenging and well-thought-out routes. It was a haven for those looking to push their limits and enjoy the sport.
However, the last three months have painted a different picture. The air conditioning has been consistently out of order, leaving members to climb in oppressive 90°F heat. What was once an enjoyable workout has turned into a grueling, sweaty ordeal.
The lack of competition seems to have bred complacency. Why fix what’s broken when there’s no one else to turn to?
The result? Overcrowded, stifling conditions that have turned the gym from a climber’s paradise into an uncomfortable sauna. My disappointment has grown with each visit, and I’m now seriously considering canceling my membership.

Updated August 2024: had to come back to edit the rating due to the condition of SST, which has always been quite crowded, dirty, and equipment not really kept UTD/in good working condition but the past few months has been horrendous. Listen, I LOVE silver st. The setters are fantastic, the members are lovely, the staff is kind, and the location is stellar. However, there has always been very poor management. This is not a new issue. There is just a lot of backlash right now because the issues have gotten to a point that they can't be ignored by the diehard fans of momentum anymore (no AC when it's 100° out in a metal warehouse-ish building, half the gym closed for 2+ mo). Both of these problems should've been handled better; management should've been more transparent with timeline AND gotten with a different HVAC company. This summer is not the first summer that the HVAC has had problems. The AC problem has been off and on for years. Clearly there is a bigger problem with it and the current HVAC company is not cutting it.
The gym being half closed was unavoidable, BUT management has done absolutely nothing for members. At the VERY LEAST they should be limiting evening hours (3pm-close) to members only. I'd even go a step further and say that they should also be discounting memberships and/or crediting back some money to the prepaid members. Under no circumstances should a gym be allowed to get to a point where there is a LINE to do a climb.
On top of all of this, the gym is dirtier than it's ever been. Don't get me wrong, it's always been dirty (pretty nasty walls, stained and stinky bench mats, clumps of hair and dustbunnies especially in the weight room, 1-2 musty wet rags to wipe equipment, cardio machines always on the fritz, unusable shreds of barbell pads, etc.) but with the increased foot traffic in such a TINY space for hundreds of people every single day it's gotten really gross. I have to sweep/blow out my own little square of floor if I do any floor exercises and bring my own barbell pad. The same clump of hair sat by one of the lifting benches for at least 5 days. All of this could be SOOO easily remedied by replacing some of the ancient pads/equipment, keeping the single use disinfecting wipes stocked, and just sweeping/vacuuming *thoroughly* once a day. For the premium price of $84/mo per member, this is a teeny tiny ask that shouldn't even have to be asked for. Nothing about SST feels worth $84, and I would not have a membership without the prepaid discount.
I still go to Momentum quite often despite these issues because I don't have a regular gym membership, and right now climbing is the majority chunk of my life, but it has gotten to a point where I feel like management is purposely overlooking all the issues with SST because they know members have no other choice. SST has the market cornered (for now) and management has fully taken advantage of it's members because they know that they can.
Updated July 2023: Looove the routesetting here compared to the other gyms we've tried while traveling. Super unique and well thought out usually!! The only downfall of this location is the walls/holds are pretty dirty due to the amount of traffic they get. Wish momentum would open another innerloop TR/lead/boulder gym combo like Katy to help with how many members there are. The other qualm is they took down the paper towel dispenser in the cardio room and just want you to wipe down the machines with drenched dirty cloths that are reused by everyone.

Impolite staff members, inadequate cooling and ventilation, a struggling management, and a lack of amenities makes Momentum SST the perfect place for new visitors to stop by a few times... but not to sign up for a membership.
I've been climbing at Momentum Silver Street for over three years now. When I started climbing, the facility was maintained well and kept up with. As of now, there are a lot of issues that seem to be taking awhile to get resolved.
At the moment, about half of the gym is closed due to a pipeline leak that happened at the start of summertime. While this issue take a lot of resources to properly address and fix - management's responses have been lacking transparency and proper communication. Lately its been improving but regardless the issue comes down to a lack of initiative by management.
The HVAC systems are unreliable during the summertime. And, to add to that, they have been this way for at least the past two summers as well. If you were to measure the indoor ambient temperature, at its highest, you'll likely measure in the mid 80s. This is unacceptable for a gym and for a city like Houston, TX where the summer temperatures can reach close to 100F.
Right now Momentum is in the process of installing new padding due to the flooding event that was caused by the pipeline. There is a very unpleasant smell in the gym because of it. And, while I do not mind, and I will continue to climb through this installation process, it makes me wonder if the gym is considering the proper PPE, ventilation, and other engineering controls that are needed when glues and adhesives are being used in a gym especially when the HVAC systems are not working properly. I
Lastly, and this is an issue that has been happening for some time now, some of the staff members including some of the route setters, are very unprofessional when addressing and responding to the concerns of customers. Instead of acknowledging and respecting criticism, Momentum staff responds with snarky comments and gets very defensive. This is unacceptable for a business that charges nearly $90.00 a month for a membership.
This is the only gym that is convenient enough for me and a lot of others to go to consistently. I already drive 30-45 minutes three times a week to get to this gym. If I could go to another gym that is just as close, I would. But, for now, I can't.
So why then do I still climb at Momentum SST? If I have these concerns shouldn't I cancel my membership and seek business elsewhere? It's because Momentum SST is conveniently placed, the gym, when it's managed properly and when the facility is running well, offers a a lot of vertical space, and the community is wonderful. A majority of the staff also makes climbing at Momentum great. These employees deserve to be recognized for their hard work, their friendliness, and their willingness to get along with the community. They are incredibly patient, friendly, and funny. And a lot of them I consider to be my friends.

This is a nice gym, but it’s been disappointing due to the state of the location this summer. Over half of the gym has been closed for months now( due to infrastructure damage?), and it appears no action was taken until enough customers starting raising a stink about it. On top of that, the A/C has been out for a while now too.
All of this could be rectified with more frequent communications to let customers know of real time plans and taking action on those plans instead of saying “we are in communication with our contractors”. I was given a timeline of renovations being complete of anywhere from 2 weeks to hopefully by the end of the year…
Again, the infrastructure is there to be a very nice gym and the staff is friendly; it is just very disappointing to be paying a premium price on a membership where you aren’t receiving what should be available.
A new climbing gym will be coming to Houston at the start of next calendar year, and I am very curious to see how significant the migration of customers will be due to this disappointing summer.

Oh boy. I used to love climbing here. There were always issues - dirty showers and locker rooms, perpetually greasy holds, constantly broken cardio equipment, etc etc. For a while I was able to overlook these things because the energy and vibe were so fun. Also it is the only centrally located climbing gym in Houston so we are somewhat captive to it.
The last few months though have just been terrible. Obviously the water main break that flooded part of the gym is not the fault of Momentum. There are some things you just can’t control. However, as a paying member, my experience coming here and trying to climb in a half open gym has been awful. It is so so so crowded now no matter what time you go. And even worse, it is summer, so the crowds are typically people using day passes. Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with this, as everyone should have the option to try climbing. BUT. It is quite frustrating to try and seriously work on problems when there is a group of 17 year old boys hopping on routes that intersect yours or a 5 year old running around in your fall zone. The staff here does absolutely NOTHING to enforce the standard rules and etiquette of a climbing gym. And I’m tired of it.
The most frustrating part is probably the lack of compensation for members. Yes, it costs the same to operate the gym, but this stance of the gym shows a complete lack of value and care for the people who keep them running. If YOUR MOST LOYAL CUSTOMERS ARE MISERABLE the least you could do is cut us a break. Because I am definitely not getting my money’s worth right now. Give members a discount for a couple months and bump up the cost for guest passes. And no, the extra two hours on Sunday aren’t enough.
The last thing I will say is that if I lived farther out I would probably switch to Inspire by now. But I might freeze or cancel because at this point I don’t know if it’s really worth it.

I've been a member of Momentum Silver Street for 4 years now, paying around $100 per month. Unfortunately, the quality of my gym has severely deteriorated to the point I can no longer stay silent.
For the past two months, the gym has had no air conditioning, making it extremely uncomfortable to climb. With no sign of it being fixed, it's clear that courtesy and comfort is not a priority for members. Additionally, 2/3 of the gym has been closed due to flooding for several months, significantly reducing the available climbing space and overcrowding the usable space.
Despite these major issues, there has been no communication from management about any timeline for repairs or compensation for the inconvenience. It’s frustrating to pay a premium price for such a subpar experience.
The icing on the cupcake for me is the decision to bring back the 2016 moonboard above the brand-new 2024 setup. To my knowledge there was no request for feedback on what the members thought/wanted. Candidly, this felt like a decision made by someone who doesn’t use the moonboard, and a middle finger to the climbers who consistently train on it.
I had high hopes for this gym, but the lack of basic facilities and poor management response have left me deeply disappointed. I cannot recommend this gym to anyone until these issues are addressed. Save your money and wait for Crux’s grand opening in 2025.

I unfortunately have to edit my review to more accurately reflect the current conditions of the gym; I wouldn't want anyone seeing my original review and expecting anything over a 2-star experience.
The current conditions of the gym are honestly unbearable. The AC functionality inside has made it so that you are able to experience the humidity and heat of outdoor climbing, while having access to less than half of your regular indoor climbing experience, as you pay for a premium gym experience.
I do not expect the Momentum staff to be able to stop hurricanes or other natural disasters; however, I do not think it is far-fetched to expect communication through means other than Instagram posts and stories. If, for some reason, the staff is being forced to update their members through Instagram, I would've expected them to not turn comments off when their members express any amount of dissatisfaction.
Something tells me they would be a bit more hesitant to continue to raise their fees if they had any amount of competition other than The Rock Gym. However, since that is not the case, I am inclined to believe from their recent actions that Momentum is in no real hurry to make these improvements.
I have loved coming to this facility for the past 3 years. Once the indoor temperatures reach anything under 80 degrees, I will not hesitate to update my review accordingly.

It's unfortunate that after 5 years of climbing at Momentum I feel the need to post this. But the gym has been basically destroyed this spring/summer. I know they can't control things like flooding and hurricanes, etc. What they can control is their response, communication, transparency, and care for their members.
After the flooding that happened we've been stuck with half a gym for months. Aside from whatever delayed the actual physical fixing of this problem, the communication over it has been really lacking and basically all done on instagram stories that disappear. The remaining half of the gym has been severely overcrowded as a result. They should have done something like more members-only hours at PEAK times to help this, but no such thing. This is made worse by the AC being in a failing state for months as well, with no way to tell if you're heading to climb in a sticky room or total sauna day by day. There are thousands of HVAC companies in the houston area, if yours can't get it fixed for months during summer, find someone else and pay to get it done!
It's gone on long enough I feel like there just needs to be a banner on the gym's website saying what the current state of the gym is that day, so we can make an informed decision on what environment we're driving across town to get to. What temp is it inside, humidity, map of open areas, is water on, what classes are cancelled, is there going to be construction dust/noise, etc. This would at least give us some transparency.
Instead we've seen our gym area get reduced, classes being constantly canceled, no AC, the water is now unreliable(?), even the system boards have been in flux, and there have been no rate compensations to members or offers to cancel long term memberships. Rates seem to have gone up instead, while momentum uses our money to build a new mega gym in SLC.
Feels like a slow death spiral has lead us here... I love the community of this gym and the staff, and it's been a welcome reprieve from the other realities of Houston life for me. But this is just beyond the pale now and I haven't enjoyed coming here in several months. But here I am, stuck with the year long membership I bought because never did I imagine it could fall this far. I hope things can improve and I can change this rating back to what I want it to be.

I’ve been climbing at this gym for the past 5 years. For the first time, I am considering leaving Momentum for another gym due to changes in the way the gym treats their members. I’m not talking about the general staff, as I’ve always had great experiences with them. I don’t know at what level management it stems from, but communication to members is awful. Here are some examples.
The Silver Street location has been through a lot in the past several months, including flooding, power issues and nonfunctional AC, poor ventilation, and water issues to name a few. More than half of the commercial sets have been closed for over 2 months now, due to flood damage. The management waited several weeks to even make a decision on replacing damaged pads (to wait on insurance to fully cover it). Throughout that time there was no communication on a plan or timeline to get the gym back to full capacity. After nearly three months of extreme crowding in 1/3 of a gym, they have never offered members any kind of pro-rate or benefit in the absence of the facilities. In fact, my monthly charge just went up by $5.
In an unrelated incident this spring, a hold was broken on the gym’s only system board (2019 moonboard) earlier this year. They put up a temporary hold, and after some complaints, taped a sign up that said, “the hold has been ordered” to placate the members. After 3 months with no hold replacement, the gym announced via instagram that they were bringing the old 2016 moonboard back. The gym had clearly lied about having ordered the hold, and reverted to the old setup. I assume this is because they didn’t want to fork over $500 to replace the entire holdset. Over that same time, we saw multiple sets of shiny new commercial holds go up in the gym. Single routes that likely cost several hundred or thousands each. Clearly the priority is not taking care of loyal members that use training boards, but bringing in new folks with the those flashy V2s.
I would understand taking forever to replace pads or refusing to pay to replace a system board if this were a small, independent gym. This is a national chain. Part of the trade of selling your soul to a massive corporate gym is the expectation of a level of quality and consistency, and that setbacks should be short since giant companies can eat more temporary financial costs to keep things running smoothly. I guess Momentum is the worst of both worlds.
The only way the gym seems to communicate en masse is via Instagram nowadays. I don’t blame them for the things that have befallen the gym, but I am sick of how those situations are communicated and handled. This week, the gym had a water outage, and full breakdown of the AC (which has not been working well for weeks). No instagram story, no post, no email, no website update. I left work early to get to yoga and did my hour commute to find it was over 90 degrees inside. I went to blistering hot yoga and decided not to climb. There has still been no information on instagram, let alone any other communication streams. The only reliable way I know what is going on is when my friends are there to send firsthand updates, or if I call the front desk. If I go in today, is it going to be 100 degrees? Are the bathrooms working? Who knows?? This might be the last straw for me.
Hopefully Momentum can get back on the right track soon. If not, a whole lot of their loyal base, myself included, will be signing up at Crux next year. If there were ANY other gym downtown I would have already left.

A lot of the reviews here seem to be from day pass visitors or new climbers, so I thought I would give my review as a regular climber who has been a member of 3 other gyms and climbing regularly for 5 years.
-Setting is infrequent and of middling quality, especially at lower grades (V0-3). Lack of hold diversity and few volumes.
-Setting occurs 1x weekly, which leaves large sections of the gym unchanged for long periods of time. Other gyms of comparable size I've been a member set at least 2x weekly. A large gym still feels crowded when everyone is climbing the same 10 problems. The large top out boulder in the front is set even less frequently, every 3+ months, to have easy boulders for kids (I have no problem at all with kids climbing, but why have a separate kids section then?). Also if there is ever a comp at the Katy location, apparently they skip the set for Silver St that week.
-Holds here are much, much dirtier than any other gym I've climbed at. Because problems stay up longer, they accumulate more chalk and shoe rubber. This completely ruins all slab and sloper problems. The grime is not just a byproduct of it being a busy gym, b/c ABP in Austin has just as many visitors (if not more) and does not have this issue. It is only b/c of the infrequent setting.
-2/3 of the gym has been closed for flooding with no prorated monthly dues. AC has been spotty for months with little communication on a timeline for a fix.
TL;DR: this gym does not offer anywhere near the level of quality of other gyms at a similar price. Crux is opening a Houston location in 2025 and I will be joining them and canceling Momentum the day they open.
Edit: a day after posting this, I drive all the way there and am told the gym is closing in 30 min b/c the city turned off their water. No notice of this on Instagram, the lack of communication is shockingly bad.

One of the largest gyms I've been to so far! Lots of variety and the grading felt reasonable. The gym area (weights, machines, hangboards etc) was roomy and had plenty of equipment despite there being many people. Only took off a star because many parts of the gym were closed but that's alright
