I have had nothing but absolutely positive experiences since starting to climb here a little over a month ago! The staff is incredible, so friendly, and knowledgeable. I’ve taken 2 different intro classes (one for top roping and one for bouldering) and a yoga class and I’ve never finished a class not feeling supported and invested in. There’s such a great variety of climbing for very beginners all the way through advanced climbers. Even my experience buying shoes from the shop was amazing (thanks to the so kind and patient Meg), who spent about 45 minutes with me because I was really struggling to find a shoe size and shoe that worked for me. The community of people is fantastic as well! Overall, I’m thoroughly enjoying my new hobby and loving climbing thanks to the staff at Movement Plano!

More lead than bouldering, but a great gym overall. I enjoyed the extra tall auto belay wall. 5.9 is the lowest grade and it compares to the 5.9 at my local gym in Hawaii🤙🏽

this actually happened a while ago but i went when it was my first time climbing pretty much and they made me buy new climbing shoes. I told the worker I had no idea what I would buy just hopefully some shoes that have a wider toe box then she asked what I meant by wider to box. what do you expect that to mean bro. I literally had to explain what wider toes meant. Then I told her if I could try some shoes in a size 8.5. She brought out shoes in womens 8.5 and I kindly told her Oh i meant mens. I could tell by the face he she realized how dumb her mistake is yet turns to me and blames me sayin Oh well I wasnt the one that picked the shoe. Like bro yall didnt even have anything that said if it was a womens or mens shoe on display. The whole interraction was so passive agressive I was about to switch gyms as a first timer. The other workers nice tho the redhead curly hair guy lowkey the goat. I dont remember the girls name but you workers can probably tell who i'm talking about because her whole human interraction mindset is so immature

Way too crowded most days. Route-setting is very disappointing for boulder.
Been coming to this location since it opened when it was Summit. Imo that is when this gym was the best in the state. Since Movement took over, there’s been a prolonged decline in quality of bouldering in terms of setting. In the last few months that decline has been much more sharp.
This is now the least enjoyable Movement location in the DFW area. The problem is the lack of fun variety for different climbing styles. Also, I usually warm up on v4/v5 and then project v6/v7 and everything is either so easy that I easily flash or so difficult that I likely can’t ever finish it (despite the grades which tend to be all over the place).
They need to improve the quality of route setting at least to the level where the other movement locations are at. Also, they really need to expand into a new location to absorb some of the climbers at Plano. During the week, especially when team kids are practicing, it gets so crowded you have to wait like 5 mins just to get in one attempt.

I started climbing 2 months ago, and I’m so happy I did. Not only do I love the sport, I love the Movement community. The atmosphere is inviting and friendly. If you’re looking for a fun hobby and for friendships with likeminded individuals, then this is the place for you. I even met people who invited me to go outdoor climbing this past weekend.
I also want to say I find the price totally worth it. Access to all the locations, yoga, fitness classes, gyms, etc. Yes, more expensive than a gym membership but you get so much more here. It’s a fun activity and well worth the price. And way more affordable than other unique activities like Pilates, kickboxing, barre, activities like that. At least this is the perspective I approach it with.
I also want to shout out the workers who contribute tremendously to the warm environment, especially Terry. He’s great at cultivating relationships with all kinds of people and has gone out of his way to make me feel comfortable asking any sort of question (gear, technique, things of that nature). He even calmed me down when I experienced my first “pump” and didn’t know what that was—he turned it into a good experience letting me know it was actually a milestone! His personality and energy make a good visit great.

Had an awesome time at Movement with Terry teaching the basics class. Terry was super patient and made climbing feel way less intimidating—plus, no one had to call for a rescue team, so I’d say it was a success! Great gym, clear instruction, and a ton of fun. Can’t wait to go back!

This gym was way better when it was Summit, and I’m sad to write this review at all because Plano is where I learned to climb and have some of my favorite memories.
Routes aren’t fun anymore. Seems the route setters only want to set things that look fun on Instagram or comp-style routes. Inconsistency across grading doesn’t help.
Forget the fact the routes aren’t fun anymore, but the staff is insanely rude. We get it; you want to go home at closing time, but you don’t need to practically shove us out the door or make incredibly obnoxious closing announcements every ten seconds once it’s a half hour from closing time (okay guys it’s 9:30, okay it’s 9:31, it’s 9:35, it’s 9:36:30… WE GET IT).
What’s worse, they don’t seem committed to teaching or enforcing safe climbing practices. Kids run around under people and do gymnastics on the mats, belay classes are half-done with people still unsure how to properly belay. No one at the desk seems concerned with anything except leaving on time.
Sad that this has happened to what was once a fun gym with a thriving community and fun staff that were personable and invested in making climbing safe and fun.
P.S. please stop the jazz music. I feel like I walked into a UNT freshman jazz and improv class.

Update(2/28/25): bumping up from 3 to 4 stars. There's been improvement with route setting

My wife and I had a free bouldering class we signed up for. There was a bit of a wait but once we got started the coach was friendly and helpful. The facility is nice and the bouldering was really fun and challenging. However this is not a place I will be returning or referring anyone to. They had divisive flags in the front right when you walk in. While trying to attempt to be “inclusive” they are doing the exact opposite. The pride flags are against my religion, against the law of nature, and against God. Unfortunately they are limiting themselves to half their potential client base when you do something like that. For this reason alone we will not be returning. 0 stars.

I been climbing here for a while. But lately the setting frequency has been abysmal to say the least. Multiple sections of the walls have been up for 2+ months. In the last 2 weeks, there have been 5-6 new problems put onto the walls in the whole bouldering section.

I stopped climbing once this place got bought out. Can't afford to climb anymore. It really sucks how expensive they made rock climbing. I use to pay $55 a month and they raised the price to like 90 something a month. Kind of disgusting but what can you do I guess. All they did was change the name and raise the price literally nothing new that makes the price increase justified.

This place is awesome if you have always wanted to rock climb. The staff are nice and helpful. But, the cost coming here has significantly increased since it went from Summit to Movement.I know several people that cancelled their membership due to the price increase when it changed. I have a membership for my son and I. I spend over $300 a month for us to come here. Buying your own climbing gear is expensive. A pair of shoes can cost easy $170-$200, harness is another $125ish. Even if you have a membership, if you want to rent a harness for an hour, you have to pay $5 EACH time. That doesn’t include cost of shoes and chalk to rent that’s even more PER VISIT. I get it that gear is expensive, and they are trying to make you buy your own. But that is a huge commitment if you’re not sure if you want to stick with climbing. It is absolutely absurd that if you have a membership, you should have to pay extra to rent gear to maybe use for an hour or so. That is why I’m giving only 1 star. If I could review staff and the gym separately, staff would be 5 stars, but the company 1 star.

I've been a member at Movement Plano for 8 months, and now that I want to cancel, I'm being told I have to submit a 'cancel request'—why can't I just cancel when I want to? It's beyond frustrating that I'm expected to keep paying $180 a month while jumping through hoops just to stop my membership. On top of that, if I ever want to rejoin, I'd be hit with a $49 penalty. The whole system feels like a rip-off, and I'm really fed up with the lack of flexibility and transparency. You guys are so disgusting :D

I had a blast here when I was in town for the summer! The staff were always friendly and my belay instructor was great at explaining and patient. They’ve got everything from bouldering, lead, top rope, and a few autobelay routes (I do wish they were changed more frequently). The space was always clean and well maintained. I will say that I wish the instructor showed us how to do the figure 8 knot and insertion of rope into the belay device, even though it’s not needed here, so that if we ever climb somewhere else, we could get more easily certified there.

As my first time here, there is a great selection of rock climbing walls and difficulty levels. After being here,
there are two major issues at Movement Plano. First the chalk they offer for $2 is a joke, it barely stays on your hands and is quite inconvenient. Second, the padding they use is not soft at all. When getting down from a wall, I would typically jump off and let the padding protect me. In this case no, Movement Plano needs to invest in this much more. Overall it’s a decent place to go to, just make sure to bring your own equipment

I’ve been going to Movement/Summit Plano for years, and have loved it dearly. Some of my closest friends have been made there. However, in the last 6-8 months, the organization and the cleanliness of the weight area has been abysmal. I’ve complained numerous times, even had a couple polite conversations with one of the managers, David. Benches are constantly covered in chalk, weights are rarely organized/put away, and equipment can conveniently disappear down into the second fitness room!

This review is strictly for bouldering. We did a variety of routes V0-V5 during our visit. Pros: The gym was clean, staff was friendly, $22 for a day pass was reasonable compared to other gyms we visited around the country. Cons: Routesetting lacked variety. Many of the routes are set to move in the left direction. If you're shorter than 5'-8" add at least 1-2 grades to the route tags. The routesetting has some fairly risky dynos even at beginner levels (V2 and lower). During our 2 hour visit we saw two different people have nasty falls. The gym is also set with very few down climbs, meaning you have to jump off from the top of wall. Lastly, for the entire bouldering area there was only 1 long brush.

If you climb, and live in the metroplex, movement is likely your only option. The exception is if you live near Frisco or Arlington, in which case you should go to Canyons or Dyno Rock respectively. This facility has a good sized lead area with both vert and overhung routes. There are three cracks, one thin hands, and two wide fingers. The setting is mediocre, and VERY soft at most grades. It's clearly set for team kids though. The membership as of late has gotten absurdly expensive. Overall, 3 stars because it's still a somewhat decent place to keep in climbing shape.

I want everyone to be aware of a staff member named Ariel.
We came with my family and two kids and she was horrible to us. Made my son cry so hard and then laughed and asked if I needed a tissue for him because “his snot” after she was the reason he was crying so hard.
Honestly I have never seen anyone with such a heartless attitude towards a whole group of people. Not sure if it’s because we are Latin but we all felt so horrible after leaving the facility. We thought this was going to be a great idea for the family. Thanks Ariel for ruining a family day for your terribleness. Do better for the next family that comes in trying to enjoy their day.
By the way the new system is just dumb and makes everything 10x harder. For staff and guest.

My oldest son had been wanting to go rock climbing. I found this place and found the prices to be a little outrageous. On top of that, dealing with the vibe of the place is enough to never go back. They proudly wave their alphabet people rainbow flags front and center. If I had noticed the flags when I first walked in, I would have walked right out. I don't care what your beliefs are, but when you're loud about it, you're in the business of brainwashing and pushing an agenda.

A must visit for Climbing Enthusiast
I recently had the pleasure of visiting a rock climbing facility that truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew I was in for an unforgettable experience.
Facilities: This place boasts an impressive array of amenities, including auto belay systems, more than 80 feet of climbing verticals, and a variety of difficulty levels to cater to climbers of all skill levels. The presence of skilled and friendly coaches (shout out to Brian) ensured that safety was always a top priority, while also providing valuable guidance on proper technique.
Cleanliness and Atmosphere: One thing that immediately stood out to me was the cleanliness and organization of the gym. The facility was impeccably maintained, with clear bathrooms and a neat layout that made navigating the space a breeze. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere created by the staff and fellow climbers only added to the overall appeal of the place.
Bouldering Experience: In addition to the impressive climbing walls, the facility also offered an excellent bouldering experience. With something for everyone, including kids, there was never a dull moment as I explored the various routes and challenges available.
Value for Money: Despite offering top-notch facilities and coaching, the cost for a day pass and rentals was reasonable, making it more approachable for everyone.
Final Thoughts: Overall, my experience at this rock climbing facility was nothing short of amazing. Whether you're a seasoned climber or a novice looking to try something new, I would highly recommend paying a visit. With its excellent facilities, knowledgeable staff, and welcoming atmosphere, it's truly a hidden gem worth discovering. I, for one, can't wait to return for another exhilarating climb.

I love this gym and have been coming for 3 years but, like many other reviews mention, membership pricing has become outrageous this year. Expecting people to pay 92/month, AND rental fees, is actually insane. They also replaced the mats with rock hard mats that are not pleasant to fall on. Much preferred when it was Summit and I’m going to have to cancel my membership because the price is now way too high to justify working into it my budget.

I was excited for the merge, but the changes have put a sour taste in my mouth. Its too expensive now, even with a membership. I was splurging by having the $75/month subscription so now that its $92/month with tax +$6 every visit for shoes until I can buy my own for $100+. Its too much, especially for 2 people.
The Dallas location is nicer, but it’s also further from me now. I don’t really care for this Plano location. Maybe Ill be back in the future if the pricing goes back down.
I also submitted to cancel my membership on 1/13 and haven’t heard back yet.

EDIT: I really fell out of love with this place since the movement buyout. It was already crowded but before I cancelled my membership I found it difficult to get on the wall when I was able to go. Really saddened by the change in management, I wasn’t told about the change in price for equipment rentals until I’d already rented equipment a couple times. Raising the price on all memberships including the teacher membership which allowed me to have access to climbing to decompress from work is making it hard to justify continuing to give money, even though climbing is one of my favorite things. It gave me a push to buy my own gear, and now I feel even more stuck to continue paying to use my equipment. Auto belay routes aren’t changed frequently and are all on the same part of the wall, I miss when there were a variety of height and difficulty options. It feels like I’m going to have to say no to one of my favorite activities for financial reasons and I’m trying my best to not let my membership go, but it feels like a slap in the face.

I've just recently got into climbing at the beginning of this year. It's been so fun to do with my partner and friends and so gratifying to see how much we've all grown physically and mentally. We go AT LEAST 3 times a week, and with the new "movement" rental charges, that's almost $40 dollars a week ON TOP OF the $88.77 monthly membership. And no there's no member price, its a flat rate. AND they're getting rid of all their discount days. Why?? The membership is already a HUGE splurge for all for us but we all found so much joy in climbing we made room for it in our budgets. But now?? I almost literally can't afford to go more than once a week. I don't wanna sound like a hippie or whatever, but climbing was already fairly hard to join in on due to price, but now it's straight up inaccessible. And I think that just goes against the spirit of climbing. The staff is so nice and they're so helpful, I wish I could give them 5 stars separately. But just a big fat middle finger to whoever is in charge of Movement and its policies/acquisitions. Greedy and grubby

2 stars for new policies and management. 5 stars for former vibes and management. Why on earth are 88 a month paying members being charged for gear? Also, why would you get rid of special deal nights like two for one Tuesday, or ladies night Friday? As a member, that’s when I’d bring in my non regular friends who now no longer want to come and pay the full price. I think too many things today get lost in the corporate capitalist landscape and not to sound so woo woo but value your guests more. Shoutout to the front staff though

Ever since they got bought out by movement, it's not about the new climber anymore. Rentals aren't apart of your membership, and now they're $11 instead of $5.
Staff are useless when trying to make a purchase, since now they have all these extra classes throughout the day, and you only have 2 maybe 3 people at the front desk to "help" you. You're going to wait an hour and have to keep pestering the staff.
Loved going here before movement, but this management makes the experience for a new climber atrocious.

This place was great when it was Summit and we went all the time as a family; it was our favorite thing to do together. Unfortunately the Movement Corp has ruined an awesome thing through greed. It’s way too expensive now and as a family of 5 we can’t justify it anymore. They got rid of all special rates so now it is more than double.

SO dissapointed. The second Movement Plano was purchased by Mr Gates was the day I lost interest... The shoes are no longer free with membership,,, the bottoms of my black feet have been raw ALL week... a real shame... Next time I go rock climbing it's going to be at Movement Dallas...

This was our first time here and we had a great experience. They recently changed companies from being Summit to Movement and all their special pricing (college, ladies night, two for 25, etc) will be gone come October 2023. Expect to spend at least a couple hours here on your first trip. You'll need to sign a waiver and go through a couple orientations before you can climb/boulder. They offer rock climbing (including auto-belay), bouldering, a small gym area upstairs, yoga, a ping pong table, and even a chess set. They provide all the gear you need for climbing in their climb pass price ($25 for adults, $17 for kids under 13) and also have gear there you can purchase, as well as healthy snacks and drinks. Admission is a few dollars cheaper if you bring your own gear. They have a small rock climbing and bouldering area upstairs for beginners/younger kids, but you're welcome to climb or boulder downstairs regardless of age. It's a chill environment, and everyone, staff and fellow customers, were all nice and helpful. Overall a great value for your money. We'll be back soon!

At Movement Plano, I was introduced to the vibrant world of indoor climbing. The walls, decked with colorful holds, offered both challenge and excitement. Joining a Meetup group made the experience even more memorable, with supportive climbers and staff guiding us every step of the way. The thrill of navigating the routes and the camaraderie shared has me considering indoor climbing as my next hobby. Kudos to Movement Plano for such an outstanding introduction!

Why is it always so hot at the gym? A/C thermostat is always set high. Fan speed is minimal. Before the acquisition, at least Summit would blow the A/C on the highest setting. Don't get me started on the urinal that was out of operation for a year or two.

Editing my original review to take away 3 stars. While this used to be the best gym in the metroplex, it has been surpassed by Movement in the design district. The largest draw back of this gym is Team Texas. When Team Texas practices Monday - Friday EVERY WEEK, good luck finding any peace or joy in your climbing session. All routes will be frequently hogged by these kids and they will give you no quarter. They effectively kill any climbing session that you plan on doing for the day. Its a figurative punch in the gut when you pay $130 dollar member ship for your family only to show up and have nothing to climb because of these kids. This doesn't even count the closures they do for tournaments. When that happens Team Texas goes to Grapevine and hogs all the routes there. If you live closer to Movement in the Design district, your membership has more value there.

My husband has been a member for a while and we have brought 5 of our friends. The gym is great with lots of spaces and open and varied routes, this spring the routes didn't change for like 3 months but now things seem to have gotten back on track. I don't love some of the changes that took place when they went from Summit to Movement like the guest passes are not as prevalent and now they only do orientations for folks 3 times a day and you have to sign up in advance where before we could bring someone and they would wait less than 30 minutes for an orientation.

The staff is rude and they are completely lost & confused. It took them about 30 minutes to give me harness AND I AM A MEMBER. They are working off paper instead of the computer. 5 people were scrambling all around the counter to help me and just one other person who was also waiting for a harness. The other locations operate very smoothly- even with a long lines they are fast, friendly, and efficient- meanwhile this location was struggling to help 2 people with 5 employees behind the counter!! The woman “helping me” was extremely rude. This was my 1st and last time at this location.

I’ve always liked this gym. I’ve had a summit (now movement) membership for at least 8 years, probably more. But my biggest gripe with the movement takeover is that they’re getting rid of all the autos. I’m personally not into bouldering, I used to come to summit to climb autos on my days off. Unfortunately this isn’t an option anymore.
I will change my review to 4 stars, according to the reply from movement they will not be removing the auto belays. When I originally spoke with front desk staff I was told they were removing all of them permanently so it’s reassuring to hear that isn’t actually the plan.

Unfortunately I can no longer recommend this place since it’s been bought out by Movement. We had family in town & wanted to take cousins to our kids favorite place. We came in to pay for 8 kids and planned to buy more punch passes for future visits as usual. Had all new waivers filled out in 5 minutes-not a big deal, but the staff at the front were unable to get even 1 kid checked in after being at the desk for 25 minutes… nobody was apologetic. One guy attempted to help our guy, but still was unable to get us checked. In a woman came up to the desk, appeared to be a manager, but was not concerned nor helpful with the many people struggling with a check in process. Very disappointing.

Me, my girlfriend and my twelve year old brother went to summit today and the cashier was so rude to us. Her name was Alex. She told us to wait on the side to tell us what to do and didn't come for at least thirty minutes and when she did finally come, she had an attitude. She was very unwelcoming from the beginning and as she taught us, talked down on us, calling me and my little brother stupid and dumb on multiple occasions and eventually cussed at us for no reason. We didn't provoke her in any way but were just trying to listen. I enjoyed climbing but don't want to go to this location ever again especially not with a child.

This gym is so awesome. The walls are tall and the routes are set well. The big draw though is their community. Summit has really done a lot to build a community of climbers and it really shows. Everyone is friendly from employees to regulars. I always feel at home.
Update: Still my home gym. You can see how welcoming they are here by how many climbers pack into the building. Even when things are busy, the community rallies. Sharing the wall, looking out for one another. Great Place!!!
Update (7/6/23): The gym feels less and less welcoming. I spend most of my time climbing alone. The auto belays appear to be disappearing, and the routes they support are stale and all at our near the same difficulty. I used to know employees, but these days they never come out to the floor to interact with the climbers... When they do, they typically only walk around and call out the people who need corrections, which admittedly are quite a few...
Feels a little like I'm the last of the old crew who climbs there anymore.

I was a member at Summit for years. It was a wonderful gym. The sellout to Movement has already ruined it. Prices are higher, staff were laid off, and the Dallas gym was closed to make space for the old Movement location nearby. It is clear that the new management doesn't care at all about climbers or climbing. I can only hope that other local gyms see what happened here and choose differently (I'm looking at you, ABP).

Summit typically has exceptional route setting for bouldering. However, try to come before 4 pm because it gets extremely crowded in the evening. There are groups of guys who hog sections of the wall without being conscious of anyone else trying to climb, and I've been in situations with unsupervised kids trying to climb below or very close to me.
Also, the last time I went, 25% of their bouldering wall was closed because the mats were messed up.

I visited the gym for the Thanksgiving potluck they hosted for the first time.
1. The ad flyer said free for members, which I assumed visiting the gym was included but came to find out that yoga classes and climbing required a day pass. Ok..just the potluck was included then...
2. The potluck - gym is providing a main dish and everyone brings a side. They can't control what others bring but they could enforce it. I arrived at 7pm only to find a skeleton of what looks like a 5lb turkey for the 50 people that attended, and empty tables of food except for what we just dropped off. Wow.
3. The staff - I wasn't really impressed with the staff at the front desk. They were not very friendly. One of them - Josh even handed me off to is counterpart and asked if they could "handle this".
4. The gym - tall walls..lots of options. Yoga class was great.
