This gym has truly been a blessing, always clean and never packed to the point where you’re waiting on machines or weights. The key fob mechanism is awesome, One can work out any time you feel up to it….

Awesome gym. Great staff. Even when I had an issue, it was very easily resolved with a quick phone call, by very friendly staff. They got everything you need for anyone serious in the bodybuilding or powerlifting scene and its dirt cheap for good the facility is.

When I started going here I always appreciated the family owned vibe and small crowds but talk about an absolute nosedive in professionalism in recent months. Their treadmills have been broken for almost a year and they absolutely refuse to do anything about it. Their only response is “well we called the guy.” Either they need new treadmills or they need a new guy. One of the workers got a new dog recently and lets it run all over the gym and I nearly dropped a heavy dumbbell on myself when it blew past me. Whoever works at the daycare is also a disgrace because kids freely run around the gym and that’s a serious danger for them and people working out. It’s a shame because they started out so great then they collectively threw in the towel as an organization and it’s so transparent it’s clear they don’t care anymore. I’ve already cancelled my membership and will be taking business elsewhere.

i liked how it wasn’t super packed, had a great selection of equipment & the staff was super sweet. the only thing i would say would be better is if they had a fan or some type of cool air in restroom because it was a little hot due to sauna but it wasn’t unbearable or anything. Also it is very clean, observed staff cleaning the entire time i was there. Def recommend 👍

I have been going to this gym for about a year now I Originally started going with body by Brody and enjoyed it every experience that I had… I had quit training with Brody to do it myself the past three months or so and the new manager Kenzie Welsh is the one that Re-sign me up if it wasn’t for Brody still being at this gym I would not have signed up she is very unprofessional she was very rude acts like she Doesn’t care if I join the gym or not I am strongly considering leaving this gym the only reason I haven’t is because I come early in the morning when she is not there… I am starting to come during the day again when she is there and I will not put up with her treating Me like this and everyone else she is so rude to everyone she walks around like she’s better than everyone

My experience at Payne’s Gym has been a mixture of things.

On one hand the gym is nice, great trainers, good equipment, clean, organized. Plenty of space and good music. Overall solid vibes.

On the other hand the gym has become infested with powerlifters & bodybuilders alike that have sort of taken over sections of the gym. They’ll be shirtless, moaning, grunting, yelling, playing their own loud terrible music, just overall super disrespectful. Not to mention the manager they have now doesn’t help, she’s rude and seems to not care about gym etiquette with their members. I’ve complained before and nothing has changed.

Another thing, I’ve tried inviting so many of my female friends to come join me and the ones that do try it out decide not to come back because they get so intimated by the big guys acting immature in there and the other friends that don’t want to come is because they’ve heard that nothing but steroided out guys workout there.

This is the only gym in the Permian Basin that I will frequent on a regular basis. I've driven two hours just to go to this exemplary establishment where like minded individual go to grow and change a certain aspect of their life. Great and knowledgeable staff, extremely clean, and most of the other patreons are kind as well.
Definitely in need of some knowledgeable/goal oriented trainers.

All-in-all it is the best place to workout in west Texas.

I love this gym moved here from Oklahoma about 2 months ago and started training at Paynes. Can’t say enough great things about the staff and environment at the gym. Everyone is so nice and welcoming and it’s hands down the best gym I’ve been to. I would highly recommend this gym to any wanting to get a real workout and not free pizza at planet fitness!!

Recently moved into the area and looking for a new gym. Stood there for a good 10 mins until staff decided to show up and right off the gate, was given attitude and showing no professionalism.
Gym is mediocre, nothing stands out, staff unprofessional, don’t get me started on the prices.

DO NOT SIGN UP HERE! There is zero professionalism in the staff at this gym. Not welcoming and definitely not pleasant to deal with at all. Not to mention how overpriced they are. After “canceling”my membership I was told I would never get billed again from them. A month later I was notified that I had a balance due of $70.
Because of their lack of training I am responsible. Any other gym would’ve been willing to understand the situation and be willing to compromise. No compromise and no understanding at all at this gym.

As far as the gym itself… it’s below par at best. After going to this gym for a month I went to another gym. I wouldn’t waist your money or time going to this gym.

Love this locally owned gym ! It’s a great place to work out for serious people that want o get on shape and keep in shape . Staff is wonderful. The members are so encouraging. People always motivate you to be the most in shape you that you can be. I’m happy to keep my investment in Texas and not in New York or California where those other gyms corporations are located. Decent gym. I’d have kept my membership but the bathrooms are never cleaned. Saw the same plastic bottle cap in the shower for over 3 weeks That’s if you can shower because the sewage is regularly backed up and the entire bathroom stinks like sewage.

Again I’d stay if I could shower after my workouts. Told the staff about my concern they seemed to just shrug it off. Front desk laughed at my comment about the dirty bathrooms upon cancelation.

We choose this gym because it was a quick drive from our house. It has been all thumbs up so far. Equipment is always clean. Employees are very friendly and helpful. We will be moving soon and the drive will be longer but we are sticking with this gym. My kids enjoy the daycare as well.

I really love the diversity of free weights this place has. Atmosphere is definitely suited for an intense workout! Only reason for 4 stars is the available space...can get really crowded sometimes, but I don't think I've been to a gym that hasn't gotten crowded at some time or another. Definitely recommend

It’s been over a year since my Husband canceled his membership. A few months ago we got a negative report saying he didn’t pay his last $70 payment.

So as a good person he went in to resolve this PAID IT AGAIN! And after Ryan telling him he would report it’s been paid.
We got a letter from Experian saying Paynes is still saying we haven’t paid.

We would happily pay $700 to get this off his report it just looks terrible only $70?????

If theirs someone in charge please call me this is ridiculous and y’all seem not to care at all.

I have spent many years in and out of gyms and I think, by far, Payne’s Gym is the best I have ever been in. Everything from the dumbbells going from 1lb to 150 lbs, to the up to date Equipment, is what you need to train. Payne’s has up to date cardio equipment including: stair steppers, elliptical machines, treadmills, bikes and etc. in the months that I have been there I have noticed that the owners are making updates monthly and they are truly striving to be the best. Additionally, the staff is helpful on everything from supplementation to tricks of the trade to improve your workout. The best part truly is though, when you look up and see both of the owners in there working out as well. They not only sale the gym as a place they actually sale the healthy lifestyle choices too. All in all, great gym, great staff and wonderful owners. Truly the best gym in Odessa.

I guess let’s start with the fact that I never do a review but there is a major lack of equipment, which is why I got a membership with another gym but kept both. Now the real issue is that I got NO NOTIFICATION THAT they did not receive my payments so I could not correct the issue, today I went in to cancel my membership and had to pay $149 for a membership I haven’t used in two months and I got no call or notice that my account was not payed. MY BEST ADVICE IS DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE! Also the first day I came here there was a member that could not get in due to poor maintenance of their key phob reader....so pay at your own risk I guess.

Been a great gym during my temp assignment in Odessa. Gym is geared towards the more serious crowd and you will pay a premium as a result. In exchange, you get access to every piece of equiment under the sun and weights high enough to allow for many many years of progress. Never any issue with overcrowding as is seen in bigger city gyms. No BS salesman paid off commision to sell you the workout package 9000. Straightfoward & easy

Ok, I like Payne’s, it’s an older gym and does need some update but has all your essential needs, even a hack squat. My only complaint is the price all gyms in Odessa are ridiculous expensive. I moved and now at a GOLD’s for $24/month, no yearly enhancement, no registration fees. We’ve lived pretty much all over the US due to military, and usually pay about $30/month.

I’ve been hitting the gym for about 35 years, started at Neal’s Health and Fitness, then to World Gym. Jason and Laura Payne then bought Worlds Gym and made the change to “Payne’s Gym”. This is by far the top gym in Odessa Tx. You need to come in and experience the NEW equipment and friendly staff.
