I would never recommend this gym to anyone. The club manager Michael Bell is unprofessional in handling complaints, going as far as accidentally sending me an email that I was obviously not meant to see where he made baseless lies.

His employees are no better, they are lazy and never want to restock up paper towels, clean the bathroom, or even do something simple as gather tokens so you can use the massage chairs. You'd be lucky to use them anyways as there is at least one that is usually broken.

They allow gym bags on the floor. They allow 3 or 4 people at a time on the same machine, which means you would have to wait 30+ minutes for that machine to become open. The hours have never returned to pre-covid levels, which is a shame seeing that other gyms in the area can go 24 hours a day but this one refuses to.

Machines are always breaking down, or just not working properly. They never enforce wiping down machines.

This gym overall is just a bad experience. Overcrowded. Broken down. Terrible customer service by club manager and employees. There are too many better options in town to subject yourself to the horrors of this place, especially at the price charged.

I just joined this gym and I find it amazing! I just moved to Texas and my last gym was nothing compared to what they offer. They have a personal trainer available to book and create a unique plan for you. I love that they keep everything clean. They have encouraging phrases and such around the gym, and it actually helped me get through my first day. Definitely recommend!

So, I have four kids. I got a gym membership a year ago so twice a week I can come and hop on a machine and watch my “Dawson’s Creek” and “Roswell” and other early aughts teen drama nonsense uninterrupted for forty minutes. It is an arrangement that works quite well.

All the staff has been fantastic. Allyson lights up a morning like it’s not 6 am, Hope has the best taste in music, and the big guy whose name I haven’t caught (Michael, maybe?) is the height of professionalism and welcome. The team somehow makes coming to a cold building first thing in the morning, surrounded by a bunch of sweaty strangers an appealing prospect. That’s talent.

For the important stuff: they keep a clean establishment, it’s never too busy, staff is friendly and helpful. Price is totally decent, machines stay in safe and working order, they resolve issues quickly and efficiently, and you never have to wait long for anything because there are enough for sharing. Good gym.

Very old gym, just a few machines broken, not busy at 2:00 p.m. on a Wednesday. Men's bathroom smells horrible, definitely needs a deep cleaning and trash is overflowing. Women's needs cleaning also.
Parking is RV and 18-wheeler friendly, no shade, plenty of parking. Might be a little busy in the late afternoon when people get off work.
All of the mirrors In the workout area look like they have never been cleaned, they all have a film of dirt on them, you could wipe it off with your fingers. If they are cleaning it, They're not using any quality glass cleaner and paper towels.
One member is walking around now Cleaning which is a good sign. This appears to be one of the gym's that has not gotten the remodel. There is one one big fan on the ceiling to cool the place off but they definitely need to turn the AC on as this place is very humid inside And there's only about 20 people in here, I can only imagine what it's like when it's busy, probably very miserable with the humidity. The water fountain does not put out cold water although it has power to it. Puts out lukewarm water which is horrible.
For the price you can't beat it.

Overall, I’m satisfied with the gym and the equipment provided. However, one concern I have is the number of individuals who spend extended periods sitting on machines while using their phones. This tends to disrupt the workout flow for others who are waiting to use the equipment. Was advised because I was a guest for a black card member, I could not use the black card message chairs, tanning, etc. I could only use the work out equipment and don't get black card benefits only the primary person, even though the primary person is my son who is a minor, that I had to sign a consent form to even be there. Update... the remodel brought in some new equipment and most of it I like. They did change the treadmills, and that's one change that is good and bad. They now have more space for ur phone such but controlling the speed is not so good. It used to be near instant speed change. Now, it takes forever to slow down and speed up. Even when u hold the button
only goes up in short increments before u have to let off and push it again to go up to the next spee# increment. When slowing down, u really want it to go quickly sometimes, and it does not.
That's one of 2 complaints. The other complaint is the open hours of the club. It closes at 8 on Saturday and Sunday and Saturday is a main day when I have time at night and I would like to work out until early morning. I hope they one day become 24 hours. Beside that, I love this club.

Most of the staff is friendly, but some not so much. I had an issue with the my membership that they didn’t catch when I came in. She came up to me mid workout and let me know, which is no big deal, and instead of letting me finish up real quick and come back the next day with my membership fixed, she asked me to leave. I just found that really weird, especially since I’ve been coming here for a bit with no issues, so I clearly wasn’t scamming anyone?? Anyways, they don’t have free weights and their sign up fees are astronomical. I had worked out, taned, knew my car would be hot. So I showered. As I'm getting in the shower, I hear "I hate cleaning these damn showers." I felt horrible as I was showering, doing a rinse out basically. Then I heard her speaking to someone else from another nationality. She was rude and hateful.

I walked out of my shower and she was still throwing stuff and being loud. I asked her her name. "Candy" she said.

She tried to apologize but when I heard that while entering the shower, and all the loudness, I thought to myself "should I just clean the shower"?

No reason for her to be that way. We all have jobs and some of the tasks we don't like. I work in customer service, I know.

The gym at Abilene has acquired new treadmills and bikes that can display important data such as cadence for the bike,watts and speed on both this data can be used for customing your own workout such as fartleks for running and intervals for the bike. The bikes have SPD clips so you can use your bike shoes or reverse them and use the clips on non bike shoes The bikes are really state of the art with actual worlds that you can ride were you can do an easy ride and enjoy the scenery. The power display recorded in watts for the bike will allow you to customize the resistance. A lot has changed from those old stationary bikes were you change resistance by turning the knob.

Really disappointed with the billing and customer service. Every time l come here, which is almost daily, l see the staff cleaning equipment, floors and the bathrooms are spotless. The staff is super friendly and always helpful. When signing up for the first time, for all military they don’t waive the annual fee that will be charged after the sign up if you select the regular package.

The girl up front gave me incorrect information and said I would have the fee waived if I provided my military ID.
I brought my ID the following week, spoke to a manager and he said she didn’t provide accurate information and wouldn’t do anything for me, despite being given bad information during sign up.

If you select the basic package, they will NOT waive the annual fee, even if they “claim” they do.

This is a great place if you enjoy machines and do a lot of cardio, in fact, it's the best place in Abilene for this. There is plenty of space and with the plentiful options you rarely have to wait for machines. If cardio is your game, you'll never have to wait, it's literally a sea of various cardio devices. However, if you enjoy free weights, or enjoy a Gold's Gym type of facility, this is NOT for you. Dumbbell selection is limited, there wasn't any flat benches for bench press, you have to use a squat rack (yes, I know). If I remember correctly, there is 3 different racks for bench, squats, deadlifts, etc. The worst part is the free weight location, it is nestled in a small 25x20ft space. It feels crowded with only 4-5 people. There are also two cable-style machines, with the standard 4-work stations per unit. While I was there people were using this space to stretch and do calisthenic-type workouts. This space is way too small for this. The facility is big enough to have a dedicated stretch area but I was unable to locate one. Overall, the staff were very helpful, friendly, and I'd rate the cleanliness of the facility a 9/10. My 3 star rating is strictly related to the lack of free weights, and the tiny space allotted for such. Planet Fitness Abilene is a good selection, but I would consider other more balanced gyms in the area if you enjoy free-weight workouts.

I fell in love with Planet Fitness when I lived in another state. So I was excited to see Abilene had one. However it is disappointing that the 30 minute express workout area is not being used as it’s intended for. I specifically came back to this gym because of the express workout and the large variety of cardio equipment. I am not able to get through my circuit because of the people that are using the weight equipment for reps. Even more frustrating is that most of them are sitting on their phones not even using the weights. I’ve spoken to the staff and nothing seems to be done about it. Each piece of equipment in the express area is on the floor so it makes no sense why people hog this area. It’s been very disappointing especially since my previous Planet Fitness gym didn’t have this problem. It’s to the point that I’ve considered canceling my membership. Please do better.

When I signed up I was told I had 48 hrs to cancel my account. After trying by phone several times due to a unexpected medical problem I finally gave up and went in. They refused to be understanding about the situation and even though my payment hadn't hit yet I was still going to be charged for the month knowing I couldn't even use my membership. Said that I should have come in before the 10th and that was the end of it. Like I knew I was going to have to have emergency surgery. So I definitely won't return and don't recommend anyone else using them. Because staff tells one thing and their policies say another. This is a good sized gym with lots of equipment choices. All of the people I have met that work here have been nice and helpful. The locker rooms are nice and well kept. They have some additional services available for "free" for their Black Card members such as tanning, massages, and some other things. Over this is a nice gym with helpful people and plenty of equipment to meet most people's workout needs.

I had a simple question on billing, for some reason I was charged a late fee even though there was plenty of money in my account. I called corporate to request refund and they said I would have to speak to my local club. Not a bad planet fitness. But definitely on the smaller scale and the biggest downside is paying full price for a non 24/7 gym. I think the price and the hours were and are the biggest selling points for everyone. But all in all not a bad place to go. Friendly staff very clean the men's showers have practically no pressure.

NEED 24/7 AGAIN! Very clean and safe space for everyone! Staff is helpful and courteous. Bathrooms and locker rooms are clean at all times. Would recommend this place if u dont like a crowd all the time! Unfortunately this is not open 24/7 so its very inconvenient. If im paying a membership fee i expect what im paying for which is 24hrs. I dont care about ur revenue. Have u ever though maybe more people would sign up if it was 24 hrs again. Hmmmm!

Its getting too packed, probably because its not 24hrs anymore. The "crowd meter" on the app really doesn't work too well. It somehow always looks LOW, it has a bias to it. The free weight area is, in my opinion is crowded all the time at least when I go, early mornings and early afternoons. Its like "do people have jobs anymore? Their always at the gym." That little room in the back right corner that has the machine weights, 2 is company three's a crowd in there. Cleanliness, 5 star...friendliness also 5 star, hell make that a 10 star.

It the only planet fitness that’s not 24 hours I’ve been to. Now I know why people are starting to join the other gym. They told me it was because of the pandemic. That was 6 months ago!! Everyone is back to regular schedule but these guys!

Really disappointed in this one. It's hard to find a 24hr gym in Abilene that isn't crunch. Would definitely change my mind if they were open all the time. Would also bring in more Airmen from dyess (hint hint)
