I recently visited this gym and was genuinely impressed by the facility itself. The equipment is top notch, the space is always clean, and it offers a great atmosphere for a workout. However, my experience was a bit tarnished by an issue with the staff that left me feeling like I was more at a correctional facility than a welcoming gym environment.

I prefer to take my shoes off while doing exercises like lunges and squats for better balance …a practice I've comfortably engaged in at various Planet Fitness locations across the U.S. Unfortunately, during my session here, a staff member approached me to insist I put my shoes back on. He was polite and seemed genuinely uncomfortable having to relay the message, indicating that he was likely just following orders from management.

When I questioned him, he explained it was a safety concern. However, I'm of the view that the risk is mine to take. Injuries can happen no matter what, and wearing shoes doesn’t magically eliminate those risks, especially if a heavy weight were to fall, I’ve witnessed it .Unless I'm required to wear steel-toed boots, I don't see how this particular rule justifies the disruption of a workout.

What really threw me off was how this encounter affected my entire session. It seems like this location enforces its rules a bit too rigorously—possibly why it’s quieter compared to other gyms I’ve visited. I later read similar complaints from other users, reaffirming my impression.

While I appreciate the need for safety, the balance between creating a secure environment and maintaining a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere feels off here. It's a shame because the gym has so much potential otherwise. A bit of flexibility could enhance the experience for many users, making it a truly fantastic place to work out.

Sometimes you have great customer service and then there's times you don't and your front desk people walk out before their shift. I love Bethany and all she does and all the hard work she does for the overnight shifts. But others who work overnight, who WALK OUT before 6am and your membership allows you to use the black card spa and you can't even use it because nobody is at the front desk. What's the point of paying for this membership if we aren't going to get the customer service that we should and if nobody is going to be at the front desk?

I was a member here for several years. I have never had a problem wearing crocs at any of their locations. Now I’m being told by an employee that they aren’t allowed bc it’s open toe. It’s a shoe not a sandal. You can’t see my toes. And I was wearing socks.
It was clear the employee was having a bad day and just wanted problems. I asked to see it in their terms that crocs aren’t allowed and instead the employee called the manager, who was asleep…. Rudely I was told to leave and I wouldn’t be shown proof of what they were saying. I told them to have a nice day and I would have to cancel my membership. I gave planet fitness one more chance and went to another location here in Katy and I was told my account had been flagged for wearing crocs. I asked him why aren’t crocs allowed, this employee said it’s not a proper athletic footwear, while watching someone run on their treadmill in flats… Clearly it’s a place they judged now. Sadly I cancelled when I had just paid my monthly subscription 2-3days prior. The least they could do is refund me for this month now that I’m not allowed back.

The lasy in the front that was wearing a grey hoodie is so rude and weird . We left the other planet fitness because they don’t even have the most basic of machines, come here and Ms. Senaya decides that my black membership only allows me to bring in my once to the spa place, the only reason why I signed up for this, and yet my guest has been to with me to multiple other locations but according to Ms. Make Your Like Hard “Not at this location”. Planet Fitness (Fry Rd):
Solid gym—clean, not too crowded, and gets the job done. It’s on the smaller side but well-equipped with plenty of treadmills and 3 Smith machines. I came on a Saturday—no issues with parking, and it’s conveniently within walking distance of Starbucks (great spot to grab a coffee pre-workout). Clean restrooms, working scale, and a calm atmosphere. Would definitely come again.

Tips:
• Grab your coffee before hitting the gym—Starbucks is just steps away.
• Mornings and weekends seem to be less busy.
• Bring your own lock if you plan to use the lockers.
• The scale is in the restroom area if you’re tracking progress.

Update:

As of March 2025, it seems that this gym has lost many customers to the new EOS that opened on 529. This actually makes it more enjoyable and efficient to work out here at this location. It’s no longer as super crowded at 5am and 5pm peak times.

There are still homeless people hanging out around the entrance, and I learned a valuable lesson here: I had my locker broken into and stolen out of during a morning workout in November 2023. Multiple other people were targeted as well and we all waited for the police. Since November 2023 I’ve seen sheriffs here on multiple occasions because several people have had their lockers broken into by now. This location quickly turned ghetto but I still like the equipment and that it isn’t full of teenagers. I now only use the lockers that are out in the open rather than the ones that are hidden in the locker rooms.

This gym it’s perfect is witness to my change, I have no complaints, but I would like to make a complaint, 2/4/25, time 11:40 pm. I am being harassed by the people who work at this place, the cleaning person. and this is not the first time, to have more context, the manager of this place can send me an email, and I will contact you back, 2 or 3 months ago the same thing happened, and allow me to call corporate because the manager of this place did not do anything, because the person who works at this time is the daughter of the cleaning people. They made false accusations in my name, you can look at the cameras and see that I am not bothering them. if this continues happening they will leave me no choice but to call the police, and I do not want to ruin anyone's life, the person who cleans is not legal and seeing how the current situation is with the president I do not want something to happen and have to do with that. The staff is always friendly. They acknowledge you directly when you arrive and leave. That is not important to me personally, but shows good training and compliance by staff which I do appreciate. This gym is spotless. I exercise at different times each day as I have no set time to work out. Every single time I come in it is the same "Have a good workout" and everything is in its place (rare in gyms as dumbbells end up all over the place) and everything is completely clean. The staff and management of this location makes a great team! I enjoy MY Planet Fitness!!!

Not too bad of a location. Not to crowded and plenty of newer machines and they have the best machine for Abs at this location too. A big grey ab machine that goes up to 160lbs for bigger guys like me. Update as of 1/2/25....They got new equipment!! They got a new Hack Squat , Bench Press Hammer Strength, and calve raises. Just drove 12hrs. Showed up at 3am. Wanted a massage, but there was nobody at the front desk. Realized all the employees were sitting around talking or using the massage chairs themselves. Extremely unprofessional. Still waiting at the front desk. It's been 15 minutes. Still nobody running this place.

In response to Planet Fitness, it does not. It just further proves my original statement. If a person can join ONLINE, sign an agreement/contract to join ONLINE, they should be able to cancel ONLINE.

I did not join via in-person or by mail, so it’s ridiculous that those are the only two options for canceling a membership because of a ‘signature’. Why isn’t this ‘signature’ needed when you sign up for the membership? Why was I not required to join in-person or by mail because of a signature? I’m just trying to understand how the electronic signature suffices for joining online but it does not suffice for canceling. If someone can make that make sense to me, that would be great.

This review isn’t for this location in particular but for Planet Fitness in general. Making someone come in to cancel a membership is idiotic as hell and inconvenient.
