Fantastically managed business. You can tell that Rick, the manager, really cares about this gym. The staff are super friendly, the equipment is in great shape and always clean, and it's typically the right amount of crowded. Just enough people there where you don't feel like you're working out by yourself, but your equipment is always open. Also, one of the best values in town

What I've noticed is that if you appreciate good customer service and having the simplest things (paper towels and things) available you have to go in the middle of the night.. Love this location and employees. The only drawback like the other location on 5th street is the 30 minute workout room. Hard to get it done, because people come in and use machines at random. Try to work around them but never get a chance to finish workout. Frustrating

The staff is very great here. This planet fitness is always clean compared to the other one in Tyler. That is why I like going to this location. There are so many young kids in working out there, So sometimes it is hard to find a machine to use. But that is only if you go during the busy hours, other than that, I have no complaints! The younger manager is really nice! The older one not so much…

As someone who already has gym anxiety, walking in and trying to get my app to load so I can scan in only to be yelled at, huffed at, and have the front desk woman roll her eyes at me, I was ready to leave before I even checked in. The gym is supposed to be a safe space for people I thought? Please don’t snap at your customers I’m afraid that’s just common sense.

I usually love this place! For the most part great equipment, friendly staff, and great black card service area. But recently several problems have come up that are very disappointing. The only lay-down tanning bed is out of service currently (May) , covers and parts to other out of service tanning beds laying around, hydro beds have been out of order off and on for months, AC in back area has not been working for months, floor in stand up tan bed in very dirty, and they are either understaffed / not available at front desk or talking to co-workers and not paying attention to customers’ requests. Please encourage staff and facilities managers to return to previous good customer service standards.

This place has the potential to be so amazing. However; the corporate office seems to not prioritize maintenance. The AC in the black card spa has been broke for going on two months. I signed up about 3-4 months ago and when trying to decide between Crunch and Planet Fitness, I ultimately chose planet fitness because of the hydro beds for after my workouts. I only got to use them for about 3 weeks to a month before they stopped working due to overheating because of the AC being out in that area of the building. They sent someone to “fix it” after a month of it being broken. That “fix” only lasted a few days and now it has been broken again for weeks. Some days it is nearly unbearable to try to use anything in the black card spa. This is absolutely unacceptable at this point. Also, your workers don’t need to be working in that environment. It is already 90+ degrees with 50% humidity in East Texas. Very disappointed in how this has not been handled.

This facility is clean, so far. The three stars is bc you need to be extremely mindful of who you choose to be behind the counter/computers that interact with the members. I should not have to educate them on PF rules. I should not have to repeat myself three times nor go up to the counter four times from a domino effect of their mistake from the beginning. Pay the good ones more so that they want to work more to keep the chosen ignorance away from membership interactions. ‘A leopard doesn’t change its spots’

Your manager in charge of hiring/directing must have great discretion on who interacts with the members.

Also, the ones who do interact should always look at/ face their attention to the members or guests when they speak. (Since your music is so loud) 101 stuff here yall.

Gym was okay, regular equipment. Cancelled membership on the 1st of the month and then on the 3rd they take my annual payment out. I tried to get a refund, but they said it had to be cancelled by the 25th of previous month. Anyway they can get your money I guess. It’s the annual fee, I didn’t use any of it! SMH

My wife and had a Day Pass to try out this facility, which was very nice. Although, the manager on duty on Saturday evening, Jan 11th around 6:30 to 7:00 PM (did not catch his name) was rather rude and seemed too busy to help us, and also stated that the Red Light, Hydro Therapy Chairs, Tanning, etc., was not included in the Day Pass, only the exercise equipment.... I later went through the documentation that was emailed to me and it states differently:

It reads: "In consideration of my participation in the activities and use of the facilities and premises, including, without limitation, the exercise equipment, classes, programs, instruction, locker room, tanning, red light therapy, massage beds/chairs, parking lot, and sidewalks at a Planet Fitness location,....

The "management" at the Cumberland location needs to read up on their own rules for the day passes, for potential customers. I could probably understand that treatment if they were busy, with a line of actual paying customers, waiting on these extras (like the Hydro Massage Chairs), but the place was dead the whole time we were there.

Impressed with the facility, just not the treatment by the "Mr Bigshot Manager"! We will look elsewhere.

If I could rate this less than 1 star I would. This business has repeatedly made it impossible for me to cancel my membership. Not once, but twice have I traveled to this location to cancel and been advised it different this by employees to “help me avoid the buyout fee”. This have pushed this 4 months after claiming two different dates that I could cancel. When I brought this up both times to the employees at the front desk the manager just sat in the back refusing to help the situation. DO NOT ever get a membership here if you ever plan to go to a different gym. Customer service is garbage and they will not let you cancel unless you are in person or send mail through USPS. Worst experience I have ever had with a planet fitness and I will never return to one.

This gym is awesome! It is a beautiful facility! It is pristine and the Staff is very friendly! The GM Connor, was very awesome and very professional! He makes a good role model for others to follow. All great till you try to cancel... I'm relocating and have tried four times to get in touch with someone to cancel. Their automated system is garbage and takes you in circles. You can not cancel over the phone or on the app. You have to write a letter to REQUEST to cancel... and MAIL it! I'll just call my bank to block these charges. That's ridiculous!

I called because someone told me something and I wanted to check it out for myself. It was THE WEIRDEST THING!! I asked them if it was true that they let MEN in the WOMENS dressing/bathroom area. She absolutely would not answer that and referred me to corporate. Well, forget getting them to answer. I called the local place back and spoke to the same lady. She read from their POLICY BOOK, again she would not say YES or NO. My interpretation of that POLICY was; however you IDENTIFY yourself is the bathroom you use. I WAS AND STILL AM IN TOTAL SHOCK! Call and find out for yourself. The policy will be read to you and YOU interpret it!!!

Joining PF was easily one of the best investments I’ve ever made. I’ve worked out at Crunch and AnyTime in the past and PF is able to offer a much better experience. Extremely clean! The staff is always pulling trash from the trash cans, wiping down bathrooms, countertops, making sure equipment is clean, everything. I get a very good vibe at this gym and I truly believe in the “judgement free zone” (which is rare at most gyms). I feel right at home and welcomed by the staff, especially MJ (I think that’s her name. Adorable African American girl with glasses and curly hair) she made me feel right at home and had a great attitude. All the staff does! I LOVE the amenities. Everything has been great for my physical and mental health. Do yourself a favor and join this gym. You won’t be disappointed.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this gym at all cost. I signed up last year when they had a dollar sign up special. I never used the membership and then moved to another city. I finally found myself back in Tyler today so I tried to cancel. First off the girl at the front counter was extremely rude. Secondly she told me there was a 58 dollar cancelation fee for canceling before the end of the first year. No one ever explained that to me at sign up. She just said "I can only tell you what the screen says." This is the most horrific customer service I have ever seen. I now have to get my bank to force a stop payment so that I can finally break ties with this gym. So please if you are thinking about going here just go somewhere else.

Update: Support was not helpful. They make canceling extremely difficult. This is a scam as they try to lock you in and make it difficult to cancel. There are plenty of other options to chose from and would recommend any gym other than this one.

Updated review: Gym's busyness has gotten somewhat better since summer. It's still very busy on Mondays and Tuesdays around 5-8 p.m.

Another adjustable barbell bench appeared and they're now up to 4, which has helped. This location could still use an additional row of benches overall (5th St. location has a good amount) and more smith machines.

Staff remains extremely friendly and manager has selected well with their employees. Gym remains very clean and well maintained.
