I love this gym! The equipment is wonderful! Lots of space. All the staff is amazing... especially Izzamar (sp?)! She is so sweet and helpful! Massage chairs and tanning/red light booths are great. The ONLY problem I have with this gym is that the A/C either doesn't work or is not turned down enough. It is miserably hot in there. While I love everything else about it, the heat is bad enough that I am considering switching gyms. Being that hot while working out makes me feel sick and also makes it a LOT harder to overlook other people's poor gym etiquette. 😬 If they get the A/C fixed, this will be my favorite gym in Garland!

Update: Thank you so much for your response. I look forward to your remedy. I will update my review accordingly. When I went back today, the temperature at the back of the gym was 84.6 degrees and 76.6 at the front of the gym. I know that IFA guidelines, which are based on recommendations from OSHA and the American College of Sports Medicine, state that a gym should be no warmer than 68 degrees in aerobics, cardio, weight training, and Pilates areas to avoid "overtaxing the cardiovascular system, which can lead to dangerous physiological conditions." I feel confident the good people at Retro Fitness did not intend for things to get this out of hand. I hope it's cooler when I return on Monday!

Update 2: It's been a couple of weeks now, and it is every bit as hot as it was when I made this post, if not worse. Everyone is complaining about it. Girls are sick in the locker room because of the heat. My friend was going to get a membership here, but it's so hot, she has decided to go to Planet Fitness.

Update 3: Unfortunately, Retro's idea of addressing the problem seems to be waiting until the temperatures outside go down. This has continued to be a miserably hot workout making me dread the gym and how sick I feel when I am in there. I guess I will have to go elsewhere to get safe, healthy workouts. I'm so disappointed.

UPDATE 4: I wrote this review last year and have continued using this gym. At the beginning of this summer, someone from Retro Fit contacted me to talk about what I thought of the gym. I shared the same thoughts from this review. Within a couple of weeks, changes were being made. The temperature in the gym this summer has been drastically different than it was before. It is SO much better! I am thrilled to return this rating to 5 stars for the gym as a whole and the willingness of management to listen to it's patrons.

If you are a member and sign up for a class on the website, you would assume there is a class - not at this gym.
Showed up for a class that I signed up for online only to be told the class was cancelled. Since I had arrived early, checked the class on the app when I got out to my car, it was still showing as available...
Wasted trip. Since it was a yoga class, didn't have proper footwear to be able to workout in the main gym space.

Just moved to the area and was looking for a new gym to try. I saw how close this location was to my house and to my job. I showed up at 5:10 AM because I saw their hours. They stated they open at 5AM. I was happy to see that there were other members there hoping to get in which was great, I love seeing a good crowd in the morning. As I was waiting I was starting to look at the time… 10 more minutes went by… no one opened yet. 30 minutes went by, people started to either leave or walk to the door and still no one was there to open. It finally hit 6AM and I decided to leave. I was truly disappointed on this location’s reliability for keeping the gym open during posted hours. It’s not just my time that is now wasted but I also feel now the other members who I’m sure rely on the gym to be open when they say the will be, and there day is thrown off.

Called on behalf of my wife who is too shy for confrontation about the doors being locked at 5:30 when they supposer to be open at 5. I spoke with a young female who took my name and phone number saying she would have the manager call back as she did not know what the problem was. 5 minutes later, Adrian calls back with an attitude questioning my story and telling me he will pass the message along. I asked if I would stop receive a call from management and he told me no because he will tell them. I asked who I spoke with previously and he told me "she's new, she doesn't know anything."

1-4-25, I arrived at 8:15 in the morning and no one was here.The doors were locked.I waited here until eight forty five no one showed up. There was no note on the door so wondering why no one was here to unlock the gym. Last night when I went in, there was no one behind the counter. I noticed a young girl sitting in one of the chairs to my left. As I scanned my card she said something, but I couldn't understand what she said. I went into the gym area and later took a shower. At 11:47, the lights went off in the shower area and I had to finish dressing IN THE DARK. When I exited the gym shortly before Midnight, this same girl was behind the counter. Don't know WHO decided to cut the lights off early.

The next time I went to Retro, I left at 11:56, and ALL the lights were still ON.

I came to retro fitness cause it was closer than my home gym Fitness connection in mesquite. So glad I made the change. Title: Disappointing Experience at Retro Fitness Branch - Not Recommended

I recently visited this Retro Fitness branch with high hopes, but unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst experience I've had so far. As a wrestling coach, I've tried a couple of other Retro Fitness locations, but this one left much to be desired. Let me explain why.

Firstly, the staff here were far from friendly. When I asked for a pre-free pass, as per Retro Fitness policy for new members, they were unhelpful and unwilling to provide one. They insisted that I needed to purchase a membership first. The manager was equally unwelcoming and unaccommodating.

Secondly, the cleaning materials used at this branch were overwhelming. They employed strong cleaning agents that emitted severe odors, making it difficult to focus on cardio and exercise. At times, the smell was so bothersome that it hindered my training altogether.

Moreover, the equipment here was in poor condition. Some machines were old and malfunctioning. For instance, one of the rowing machines had a non-functional monitor, and another made a loud, alarming noise that gave the impression it was about to break apart.

Furthermore, the available space was limited. If you wanted to use equipment that others were already using, you had to wait in line. This added unnecessary delays and frustration to my workout routine.

Considering these factors, I strongly advise against choosing this Retro Fitness branch. There are certainly better fitness facilities available where you can enjoy a more pleasant and hassle-free experience.

Horrible customer service, not professional at all, they take the business like a joke, like kids playing in the back yard .. when I signed up, they advised me to get the highest plan, in case I decide dropped it to the regular one, I could just do it.. after 3 months I decide to drop my membership, I called the gym, and some one said that i had to pay 70 dollars, I went to the gym and the manager, who I don’t know the name, and she actually do not know what she’s doing , asked me to pay 49 dollars, they don’t even have a real fee, they just charge whatever they want .. really disappointed.. just make sure before you sign up to have everything clear on paper .. or you will end up, spending more than you suppose to.. Love it!! I used to workout at Anytime Fitness, but due to moving I had to cancel my membership. I tried out Fitness Connection and it was awful. Planet Fitness is fine and cheap but there are no squat racks. Retro is great! I love the smoothie bar and the red light therapy. I also like that they have 5 or so squat racks. The only issue is that there are not more treadmills or more bench racks. Men in the afternoon tend to hog machines and a lot of people do not have gym etiquette aka get off your phone and dont sit at the same machine for 10 minutes.

Just wanted to add more positive things to this review since the rebrand is fully completed. The customer service is elite, whether it’s Nadia, Delilah, Dedric, even any of the new faces. I have continued my membership since they bought out YouFit (same agreement and dues 😏) and I love the gym even more. The new amenities, like the turf equipment, redesign, smoothie machine and massage chairs are excellent. I always thought I would struggle at a gym without a pool, sauna or basketball court but I was wrong 😂

I will also add that the trainers are really great here and specialize in meeting you where you are at if you choose to purchase sessions.

I miss the old YouFit gym. Was a member for 6 years. I've decided I'm going to cancel Retro Fitness. There are just not enough gym machines especially in the leg area. They only have one leg press machine which seems to be hard on the joints, and just one of every machine in general. This is unacceptable because it makes wait time to long. The old gym use to have 2 or 3 different machines of every kind. So now that they've reduced the number of machines I found my workout time being cut down to 30 minutes for lack of machines and lack of variety of machines to use since they got rid of most of the good ones. I understand they probably had to reduce the number of machines due to cancellations of membership because of increased prices, construction, and the pandemic. But even Planet Fitness has two different leg presses. One good thing I can say is I actually like their arm machine but you also have to wait a while to use due to reduced number of machines available. I pay $40 a month for machines I don't have access to so might as well cancel. I really do miss the old YouFit. I would stay if they could put a few of the old machines back.

Been to many, many gyms

As far as commercial gyms at a good price, this gym is very hard to beat. Plenty of equipment, rarely so crowded I can not do what I want. Has a platform where you can do Olympic weightlifting and deadlifts, as well as 2 squat racks, with a good amount of dumbbells. I could even do bench press on Monday evenings.

I am highly disappointed with this location. Highly disappointed! For starters I have been a member here for over 2 years (most of the time not going but still paying $27 bucks a month) i know silly me. They make it hard to cancel being that you have to go in to the location and fill out some silly form. I travel a lot so that's a hassle.

Long story short.. I had someone steal my CC info and had to cancel the card and get a new one. Well youfit was one of the bills I had on Autopay.. when my card canceled so did the payments to youfit. And of course I forgot because I was not going. And no I'm not blaming them, just silly of me for not canceling a long time ago.

Well I get a call in February of this year, letting me know my account was in jeopardy to go to collections for $127.. im like immediately freaked cause I work too hard to maintain excellent credit. The girl Natia states the reason I'm calling is because we can stop that for a 0.01 if you just give us a valid card and restart your membership. That sounds good right!? No, wrong. She took the penny promised me no collection and that my membership was in good standing. (Mind you I told her on the phone several times I can pay the $127 cause I don't need anything jeopardizing my credit.) well here we are in July and what do I get a notice from Experian my Credit score went down 60 points because of there F'n BS!! And I'll be damned if I let them win! It's gone be a long ride!

I really love this gym. Dedric, the evening associate, is personable and helpful. I always look forward to chatting with him a bit.

The number one downfall of this location is the hours, particularly on the weekends. Gyms closing at 6 on the days most people are available is really frustrating. Should be open until 8, at least. I’d also like to see yours extend to 12am during the week as well. Some people really can’t get in until a little later on.

Prefer this location every time out of the other Youfits. Very spacious gym and always clean! Even at peak times you can still get in a decent workout from all the various machines and free weights they offer.

Such a frustrating experience when you drive up and see the lights off. This is the second time within a month of going to workout and no one is there to open the gym. A waste of time and pre workout products. Hopefully the management can figure this problem out……..I’m changing it to one star. It happened again. That’s three times over two months.

I joined YouFit a 4-5 years ago. I also purchased multiple years gift for a friend. They made her sign the contract that I put on my debit card. When I tried to cancel hers they are threatening her for collection. Furthermore, none of us could go there when they were closed yet they still collected the money and won’t return it. Also, I was diagnosed with a terminal illness and will only live from 4 -12 months. I can no longer drive. I tried canceling by phone 3 times and they insisted I drive there. My location was closed and the one they wanted me to go to was further away. I ended up canceling my debit card so now the called me asking me to rejoin and pay them for the months I didn’t pay. (They won’t pay me for the months they were closed). Now a law firm for collection sent a threatening letter. I called them and told them I had a terminal illness and they asked me for $135. When I asked them to subtract the multiple months from both accounts they hung up on me. When I called back and told them I wouldn’t have someone take my dying body to Garland to cancel the law firm Aldois and Associates told me I signed a contract and needed to pay $135. I told them it can’t be collected from a corpse. I am turning in a small claim against YouFit. They charged me the $50+ building use fee twice, for me and extra gift membership. And monthly fees for both while they weren’t open to the public and after I canceled verbally. They are dishonest. In their mind if you call them and say you want to cancel and say you can’t drive there it’s okay to continue billing you and threaten you. YouFit when someone tells you they want to cancel, they want to cancel. Why rip them off? I gave you more than 3 years of money for 2 people and one of them never went in. You should thank me for my business, instead of saying you don’t care that I’m dying and threaten me. Hate the membership

Still charging people during shut down. You pay to cancel and can only cancel by going in. Kinda hard to do when you've got the virus.

Spoke to rep on two different occasions to cancel memberships due to pandemic but neither stated to come into club. Received text for past due balance called number and was told memberships were never cancelled and must come in to sign. Went in to cancel and was told I needed to pay fee then we will receive the refund of fees that were changed when they were closed in 30-45 days.
