The real classical Pilates experience!
I aslo participated in RPTT, Real Pilates Teacher Training Program from NY with Somaspace as host studio, let me tell you, Amanda Vernor is phenomenal, she supports her Apprentices in a unique way, we were a group of teachers in training and the experience was unique. If you are considering becoming a Pilates teacher please consider Somaspace, you will be wrapped with kindness, a wonderful group of teachers, Amelia, Alex, Lauren and many more, with the lead of Amanda, the owner and the support of Allie the studio manager, you are in really good hands. If you are considering Pilates, or recovering from injuries, this place is what you need. I love Somaspace and all the wonderful people there.

Edit: I posted my last review a few years ago and just wanted to come back to re-affirm that it is still 5 stars for me! Not only have I remained a client, I started adding Gyrotonic classes and have truly loved the combination of Gyro and Pilates. I even convinced my spouse to start Gyro and it has helped with his upper back/shoulder pain. Thank you Somaspace team for all you do!

Original post: Highly recommend! I began attending sessions in 2019 after recovering from a challenging 2nd pregnancy and some severe hip and lower back pain. I haven't had any issues with pain in the last 2 years, feel stronger than ever, and the studio team is incredibly knowledgeable and supportive. Their willingness to accommodate my changing schedule, and balance things with my kids is a huge help.

I’ve been coming to Somaspace for nearly 2 years and have loved it! I’ve primarily worked with Lauren H. but all of the instructors I’ve partnered with are amazing. The studio is inviting, and clean and the employees are the friendliest. I always look forward to my sessions!

Somaspace is a beautiful Classical Pilates Studio with top of the line, well maintained equipment. Amanda Verner is an amazing Pilates teacher and studio owner. She has a deep knowledge and respect for The Classical Pilates System and both her private sessions and group classes are inspired, challenging and fun. I began taking classes at Somaspace for 6 years and this fall started the Real Pilates Teacher Training Program hosted at Somaspace which I also highly recommend.

I began my Gyrotonics journey with the primary goal of improving my spine health and addressing other health concerns. Under the guidance of Christy, my Gyrotonic instructor, my fitness journey has been nothing short of transformational. Her exceptional expertise in teaching me how to decompress my spine has not only significantly enhanced my range of motion but, in my belief, also played a pivotal role in preventing additional injuries.
What sets Christy apart as an instructor are the essential qualities she embodies. Her compassion shines through in every session, making me feel supported and motivated to push my boundaries. Her intuition allows her to tailor each session to my specific needs and goals, ensuring a personalized and effective experience. Moreover, her ability to build trust creates a safe and nurturing environment where I can confidently explore and expand my physical capabilities.
Christy's teaching style is a true revelation. It not only delivers impressive physical results but also serves as a wellspring of inspiration. Every session is an opportunity for me to challenge myself, explore new horizons, and develop a deeper connection with my body. It's an experience that extends far beyond the studio, positively impacting my overall wellness journey.
I am genuinely grateful for Amanda, Christy, and Amelia's guidance on this path to better health and well-being. Their dedication to helping me achieve my goals, their unwavering support, and their unwavering belief in my potential have been instrumental in my progress. My Gyrotonics journey, under their expert tutelage, has been a life-changing experience, and I look forward to continuing to grow and thrive with her guidance.

LOVE the people, LOVE the space, truly a LOVELY experience. I joined soma in the fall of 2021 with chronic back pain that did not respond to PT or massage therapy and almost 2 years later I am still a regular. I feel stronger, more flexible, and have little to no back pain!!

I attend both gyro and pilates (private and class) sessions and have never had a bad experience. Amelia and Siri are my go-to instructors but everyone I have worked with has been knowledgable, professional, and encouraging. Most importantly the instructors cater the session to what your body is capable of/needs for that day. They push you to increase your strength and flexibility but are always mindful of any injuries strains.

The studio is intimate, clean, and peaceful. The atmosphere is extremely body positive and honestly is the first gym/studio experience where I look forward to attending sessions. This is rare praise coming from someone that has never committed to a regular exercise routine for more than about 6 months. Highly recommend for anyone looking to recover from injury or mindfully build up their flexibility and core strength.

I have been attending classes at Somaspace since Aug 2021. I sought out a Pilates studio with small classes and focus on form to recover from multiple surgeries for breast cancer treatment. I found what I was looking for and more in this beautiful studio with highly qualified instructors with intentional focus that have challenged me to become stronger and flexible and patient with my body during recovery. I have worked with every instructor at the studio (in group classes and private instruction) and they all are knowledgeable, compassionate, genuine and fun. This is the type of studio that becomes a place you want to continue to attend. My body feels challenged & strong yet stretched & relaxed afterwards and the instructors are there to help you with your needs and goals.

I started going to Somaspace about a month ago after experiencing some back pain and general tightness. The space is great and has all original Pilates and Gyro equipment. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to try it out - Siri in particular is the best instructor/coach I’ve ever had - my body feels so much better in a few sessions and she is so knowledgeable, kind and encouraging. I only wish I could do more often!!

I’ve been going to Somaspace for almost a year now and this review is long over due. I originally looked into Pilates to help cross train for dance and within a month or two could notice improvements while dancing. I started privates at Somaspace with 3 injuries including an old hamstring injury that never quite healed right. All three injuries feel much better now and I’ve gained a new appreciation and respect for my body during my training here. Pilates and Gyrotonic are both unlike other types of movement I have done.. I drip sweat without ever jumping around and have formed a stronger mind-body connection. I have worked closely with Alayna and Leah and and they are both very knowledgeable and friendly. I can’t say enough good things about either of them.

The space itself is lovely. There is plenty of natural, diffused light throughout the studio and it is always impeccably clean. Even before Covid-19! The protocol they have in place is thorough and I have been able to safely continue my weekly privates. I’m so thankful to have a beautiful, safe space to escape to while staying home.

I’ve been a Somaspace client for five years, and in all honesty, I wouldn’t be where I am today without this studio. Multiple surgeries mean that I have to find different ways to work with my body, and Amanda and Shelby make this possible. All of the instructors here are highly trained, but Somaspace goes beyond expectations. Here, they really care about the long term, and helping me to ensure that I have the spine strength and mobility to get there. I can not recommend this studio more highly, but I wish that I could.

My husband and I have been taking classes and private sessions at Somaspace for the past 6 months. Amanda and all of the trainers / instructors are fantastic -- very experienced, thoughtful, present, and observant. We do the small group (up to 3 student) classes on a regular basis. Because the classes are so small, you receive a lot of individualized attention with the benefit of stretching yourself in a group dynamic. When we need more specialized attention, we love all the trainers for private sessions. We could not be happier with our experience.

Small personal attentive classes or one on one, they even have Gyrotonics. New trainers you have to book with Adrianna and Leigh.

I had such an incredible experience for my first Pilates class with Jenny Neie! She was so attentive and thoroughly explained every exercise! I exercise weekly in group classes and after ONE session with Jenny I realized one side of my body is WAY weaker than the other. Cannot wait to book more with Jenny! PS- this space is gorgeous and so relaxing!

Being a long-time practitioner of Pilates and Gyrotonic, I know what I like, and Somaspace has consistently exceeded my expectations. When I moved to Austin two years ago, I needed a new studio and was invested in finding a place that could be more than just a space to move my body. I wanted instructors that could deliver a strong and authentic representation of these systems, as well as the intangibles that only truly exceptional studios know how to give to their clients. For me, this means a genuine appreciation for all clients and space for growth and healing. Somaspace ticked all my boxes, and then some. I have a complex set of health issues that can be easily exacerbated by instruction that is not adaptive to my needs, but I have never worried about this issue with the instructors at Somaspace. Everyone is extremely talented, adept at homing in on details, and have always helped me to find the best version of myself without sacrificing health or safety. They will push you, but never beyond what you can handle, and you always leave feeling better than when you walked in. The space is open and inviting, and the vast array of equipment keeps things interesting and challenging. This includes having apparatus and smaller equipment not offered elsewhere. So, you receive the full Pilates and Gyrotonic experience. Just as important, everyone there is genuinely nice and cares about connecting with each person who walks through the door - a quality lacking in many studios across the board.

I have been doing Gyrokenesis and Gyrotonics with Amanda and Somaspace for almost five years. I love the bright new studio on S Lamar and the new small group classes. Based on rotational movements, the stretching, strengthening, and lengthening movements of Gyrotonics and Gyrokenesis are immediately beneficial and get better with practice. I've worked with Amanda, Shelby, and Alayna; they are professional, wonderful, and fun!

The blend of Pilates and GYROTONIC classes I've taken Somaspace have added strength, flexibility, and calm to my not only my body, but also my mind. Somaspace has helped me prepare for and recover from long runs and half marathons. The classes have also made me more aware of how I can better care for my body in my daily life. This beautiful space and its community of teachers and students are a gift to South Congress.

I found Somaspace while looking for a Pink Ribbon Pilates class. Pink Ribbon classes are specifically for women who have challenges working out due to Breast Cancer. Before Breast Cancer I was very active and enjoyed all kinds of exercise. Now I have Lymphedema in my arm and am unable to do the exercise programs I did before. It is very frustrating. Amanda has been wonderful. She works with me individually and pays special attention to how I am doing each week. I am starting to gain some strength back and I owe it all to the special care I've received at Somaspace. I highly recommend Somaspace to anyone, especially Breast Cancer Survivors.

Somaspace Pilates and the Pre-Natal class with Amanda has been an essential ingredient in maintaining strength and tone during my pregnancy. She is a fun, warm and knowledgable instructor, and provides great guidance to help prepare you for labor through pilates. The studio space is beautiful and calm -- the class is always a weekend highlight.

Amanda has a deep knowledge of classical Pilates and makes it a point to really get to know her clients and their bodies' strengths and limitations. I started working with Amanda last summer to maintain core strength and flexibility during my pregnancy. I have felt very comfortable in her care throughout my pregnancy and look forward to working with her post-delivery.
